Decoding AVI files using Encore CS3 On Macintosh

I have some AVI files that I want to import as Assets into Encore CS3.
I AM USING A MAC!!!
Information about my files (Retrieved from the advanced information tab of the information window in VLC for Mac) in shown below.
Stream 0
Codec: XVID
Language:
Type: Video
Resolution: 640 X 480
Frame Rate: 25.000000
Stream 1
Codec: a52
Language:
Type: Audio
Channels: 2
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 256 kb/s
General
Duration: 0:24:15 (Obviously this varies from one file to the next)
Meta-Information
Setting: HAS_INDEX IS_INTERLEAVED
I should think the information provided above is all that is necessary to solve my problem. However, if you need statistical information (provided in the statistics tab of the information window) please tell me.
When I import the AVI files (AS Assets) I receive an error message saying;
'The Software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem.'
I am pretty sure (Thanks to Bill Hunt) that what I need is a codec for decoding XVID video files.
Am I right?
Is there such a thing for Mac?
Where Can I get it?
P.S: I don't want to convert my AVI files to .mov files or other compatible formats because I have allot of files and not allot of time.
Thanks

In the day that's passed since you've posted, you probably could have converted all your media, but anyway...
If you're for some reason you are still averse to doing that, I would reluctantly suggest installing the Xvid codec on you Mac. Reluctantly, because Xvid can cause havoc on some Windows systems, and I don't know how well it plays on the Mac.
It may work fine, or not - try it at your own risk.

  • Read an avi file using "Read from binary file" vi

My question is how to read an avi file using "Read from binary file" vi .
My objective is to create a series of small avi files by using IMAQ AVI write frame with mpeg-4 codec of 2 second long (so 40 frames in each file with 20 fps ) and then send them one by one so as to create a stream of video. The image are grabbed from USB camera. If I read those frames using IMAQ AVI read frame then compression advantage would be lost so I want to read the whole file itself.
I read the avi file using "Read from binary file" with unsigned 8 bit data format and then sent to remote end and save it and then display it, however it didnt work. I later found that if I read an image file using "Read from binary file" with unsigned 8 bit data format and save it in local computer itself , the format would be changed and it would be unrecognizable. Am I doing wrong by reading the file in unsined 8 bit integer format or should I have used any other data types.
I am using Labview 8.5 and Labview vision development module and vision acquisition module 8.5
Your help would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Check out the (full) help message for "write to binary file"
The "prepend array or string size" input defaults to true, so in your example the data written to the file will have array size information added at the beginning and your output file will be (four bytes) longer than your input file. Wire a False constant to "prepend array or string size" to prevent this happening.

  • How to export/watch .avi files using Quicktime Pro

    Hi there.
I've got Quicktime Pro and I'm trying to convert .avi files so I can play them on my iPhone. I open up the .avi file in Quicktime and then slect the Movie to iPhone option.
It will take about 20 mins or so, but when I open the file all I get is a white screen even though the timer is showing that the movie is playing.
I can't even watch .avi files using Quicktime as all I get is a black screen.
    Could someone please help?
    Thanks

Thanks, but unfortuntately that didnt work. MPEG Streamclip couldn't play any of the .avi files, it still came up with a white screen while playing.
I tried this with a number of .avi files but I had the same problem.

  • How to play Windows AVI file using Teststand

    Hi,
I'm trying to play a Windows AVI (*.avi) file using the Windows Media Player, launched by
    a Teststand CallExecutable type step.
When the step executes, the Windows Media Player app. starts o.k., but the file to be played
causes an error which states the file type is not recognised.
Yet if the AVI file is selected in Windows Explorer, it runs fine, i.e. the file type is associated with
    Windows Media Player.
If the 1st error is ignored, a 2nd is displayed. This states the file cannot be played, and suggests that
the path may be incorrect or the server is unavailable.
When configuring the Teststand CallExecutable step, the Argument Expression field contains the full
absolute address of the AVI (*.avi) file to load and play.
I have also tried using an expression and also placing the AVI file in the same directory as the
Windows Media Player .exe, but the file will still not play.
If I use the Run utility from the Windows Start menu, I can enter the same details on a single command
line, and the AVI (*.avi) loads and plays just fine.
What should I do to get Windows Media Player to run the AVI (*.avi) file using the Teststand CallExecutable step ?
    thanks,
    Gary.

FYI, with TS 3.5, the MessagePopup step can also display html files. The html file can reference the player control and tell it to run immediately. The html code looks like this:

  • Avi files & Premiere Pro CS3

I just picked up one of those little Flip Ultras. They produce avi files and the documentation and support from Flip says that dvds can be created in third party software by importing the avi files.
So I did that with my CS3 version ... nada. I see little black boxes with a yellow line running through them.
Do I need to do something special to work with these avi files in Premiere Pro and then export to DVD?

    Kristin,
You might get some info on using a Flip, if you stop by the Premiere Elements forum. There are a couple of entries in their FAQ's (read the FAQ's for all versions, as they have never been combined). The steps for dealing with those files will carry over pretty much to PrP, as well. Link: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bb574e6/
Also, there are many discussions on Flip cameras in the main forum articles (search for "Flip"), and also on www.muvipix.com, in their "Community" forums. You will need to register (free), and not need to "subscribe," unless you want to download some of their Assets.
Flip cameras present some challenges. I stongly suggest doing some reading, before you attempt a Project from one.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • No sound recording avi files using Camileo S20

    Hi all
I got the s20 on thursday and it has been a nightmare. Before the sound went i couldn't get the video files to work in Movie Edit Pro or sony vegas.
It didn't even work in the Arcsoft software that came with it.
I have tried it on three differant computers and it keeps showing up with no audio.
I have tried all the codecs you can think of and none of them worked. Now i cant hear any sound even when i play it back on the S20.
I dont really now what to do. I have two other hd camcorders and they work fine on my computer.
I have had to re-format my computer as the codecs had messed it up. If i had my way i would send it back and be done with it but i have to wait until tomorrow before i can contact this number which i have been given.
What i want to know is:
Is there any way i can get the avi files to work in sony vegas and movie edit pro 15 plus?
Any help or advise would be welcome.
    thanks
    regards
    Chrisc74

    >Is there any way i can get the avi files to work in sony vegas and movie edit pro 15
As far as I know the S20 creates the h264 encoded videos.
This means that you need the H264 codex in order to get video and sound on your notebook.
I cannot say anything about the sony vegas or movie edit pro software because I dont use it.
But I edited my videos using the common widows movie maker and everything was ok.

  • Premiere 6.5 MPEG 2 file to Encore CS3

Will I encounter any problems using a Premiere 6.5 MPEG 2 file in Encore?

Not unless the MPEG-2 file does not comform strictly to the DVD specification.
If it doesn't then Encore will need to transcode it.
    Cheers

  • Transferring Betacam SP tapes to AVI files using Final Cut Pro?

What would be the most cost effective way to transfer Betacam SP tapes to AVI files?
I have a Betacam SP deck, Final Cut, and a Mac Pro.
I just need to connect the Betacam SP deck to the Mac Pro.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

    Pretty much, yes.
As I noted above it will capture via FireWire to the DV codec as well as the other usual outputs.
If DV is good enough, go for it.

Use Windows media player via ActiveX. Find attached example (it plays an AVI on top of graph area and hides at the end).I attached a screen capture in case you have problems with the converted version of my 6.0 VI. Let me know if it's working.

  • Is anyone ACTUALLY using/running CS3 on Macintosh Tiger OS & creating cont?

Huge dilemma on my current work flow . . .
Is anyone actually running CS# on the tiger OS?
Is it stable, working ok - or several problems?
    Deeply appreciate actual user replies.
Thank you for any insight you may offer.
    Luke

    Yes, No, Yes... depends...
My QS/2001 running Tiger 10.4.11 still can use Classic, or even boot into OS9 if need be, runs CS3 Pro too, though I prefer 10.3.9, which doesn't do CS3.
My MDD/FW800 doesn't boot OS9, but uses Classic, and or CS3.
I think any G4 can do both Tiger/CS3 and/or Classic at the same time!
What exact G4 do you have?
But also JUST as important - can you successfully run CS3 on it.
That is, has or is anyone actually creating content with it - on Tiger OS.
Iv'e done some piddly stuff, not with Flash... which I don't get at all, but all the other ones.
If you tell how to create content in Flash I'll reinstall it and give it a whirl!
PS. Leopard is a joke we'll all get one day and we'll fall over laughing!:-(
