Decoding Dolby Digital not available in Platinum

It's as simple as it gets, clean windows SP2 instalation with security updates.
There's no Decoder Tab in audio console and i don't get any sound in spdif on powerDVD when there's the dolby digital bitstream out logo. Anything that isn't dolby digital does play sound.
This is PLATINUM FCS (as in EXPENSIVE CARD THAT SHOULD HAVE BUILTIN DECODER like the original platinum), i got the FCS version after my original regular platinum broke down after 3 months.. and it had built-in decoding.. you're not going to tell me that this MORE expensi've (not much tho) card doesn't have. :|
Anyway, sorry about the ca
ps.
.. just that x-fi cards for the last months has giving me headaches despite the great features and sound quality.Message Edited by darthdan on 08-6-200703:3 PM

Well, checked the features in the product page... it seems it doesn't.. So i'll give this post an oportunity to let it all out.
How the heck does my bulk audigy 4 that costs about 7 to 8 times less has that feature and also how the previous platinum had the feature and this one doesn't?
Ok, so creative added the x-ram, like many games take advantage of that and like everyone has speakers to take advantage of that. I guess it's resources and marketing all the way.
Bottom line, considering the sound quality of the cards and features i wouldn't call them a rip off but some stuff really messes with regular clients.
I guess creative not having a serious competitor in the regular consumer market make's they more relaxed a bit. (But i may be wrong since im not workin for creative or inside of it to see how they work. I admit that possibility.)
Anyway, hope im not a bother and have a nice day.

  • Decoding Dolby Digital via Optical

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to decode the digital signal from my satellite receiver via the optical in port on my Audigy Platinum? I hooked it up and all I got was basic surround, and yes, I was watching a movie on the receiver that was being broadcast in dolby digital.
    Thanks for the info...

What do you mean "Basic Surround"?
As far as I know, it is possible with the Platinium dri'ves. Provided your receiver is sending RAW Un-decoded Dolby Digital signal to the dri've.
If it is already decoded, the signal being sent through the optical cable will only be received as Stereo..if I'm not mistaken.
Someone else with hands-on experience will have to give you a better confirmation, as I dont have a Platinium dri've before. But I know its possible.

  • Decode Dolby Digital from optical inpu

    Hi,
I bought SB X-Fi Extreme Audio PCIE. I know it'sdoesn't have?any hardware supported features, but maybe there is some?software way to decode Dolby Digital send throught optical cable to SB input ?
Second question - which SB model should I buy to get this working ?

I don't think the Audigy 2 NX has decoding hardware onboard, it uses a driver based decoder therfore all decoding is done by the computer. The Extigy is different, it has and actual onboard decoder so it can be used as a stand-alone Dolby Digital decoder, not requiring a computer to operate. I'm not sure whether the NX can decode AC3 from an external source or if it is limited to decoding signals originating from the computer (i.e DVD or AC3 file).

  • Searching for sound card, which decodes Dolby Digital from S/PDIF-IN

As I wrote in the topic headline, I'm currently searching for a sound card, which decodes Dolby Digital from the S/PDIF input.
I.e. a DolbyDigital signal comes from an external device (here Set-Top-Box/Media-Recei'ver) and the sound card should send the signal to my analogue speakers.
Currently I have a Creative X-Fi ExtremeMusic, this card does not support this.
And yes, I read the thread "Digital Connection...".
    Thanks for any replies!

HRe: Searching for sound card, which decodes Dolby Digital from S/PDIF-INE I'm still doing some research on this topic, although I'm already searching for 2 years now with no real solution. Several people say, that I can do that, what I described in the first posting, by using an I/O console from Creative. But Creative (support) says, it is impossible at all, they don't have any products, which can do this.
Can anyone tell me, whether it's possible or not? Important fact: I use Windows XP, not Vista. And I don't want to use modded drivers. I want to use the latest official ones.
The new soundcard "Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Champion Series" has an I/O dri've. If I have this, can I decode DolbyDigital from S/PDIF-IN, if I plug the optical cable into the soundcard? Because this console seems to have no optical input.

  • ¿Does Audigy 2 NX decode Dolby Digital 5.

    Hi,
I've purchased an Audigy 2 NX to connect my xbox 360 via optical sound wire and get Dolby Digital 5..
The problem starts here, i've connected the console to optical In (in the sound card) and i've connected the 5. via standart jacks (the 3 typical jacks), if i set Dolby Digital 5. mode on the xbox 360 i don't get any sound, but if i set it to Stereo Digital it sounds but only in 2. mode (front speakers).
The dolby digital led in the sound card never works, it's always off, it suposes to be on when it detects a Dolby Digital Input (like the 360 one's) but it always remains off.
How can i decode Dolby Digital 5. via optical in? In the sound card spec's says that this card is able to Decode DD 5. and 7., but it seems to be a lie!.

this soundcard does not decode from external source...so it won't work this way.

  • Live! 5.1 SB0100. Can decode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) from S/PDIF-

Hi,?i have a Sound Blaster Li've! 5. model: SB000. This can decode AC3 from S/PDIF IN and out to analog outputs?. My idea is connect Xbox 360 to S/PDIF IN and decode Dolby Digital to analog outs. Thanks.

Nope. The original EMU0K chip always had resampling enabled on S/PDIF input so that if there was any clock drift at all bits could change and damage the AC3 encoding. The EMU0K2 (Audigy) chip was changed to somehow allow bypassing the core clock so the S/PDIF sample values could get into memory without alteration.

  • Dolby Digital Not Decoding Properly

I have an Apple TV with the latest software. I am running the output via HDMI to a Denon 1909 AVR.
The Denon does not automatically recognize when dolby digital 5.1 is coming in like it does with other sources, however, I can see that the input is 5.1 and can change the receiver so it is in DD or DD EX modes. When not in DD or DD EX modes, everything is fine. However in DD or DD EX modes, the sound is good except for one very important piece - no dialogue is coming through - like it is missing a channel or something.
I have tried switching HDMI cables with no change.
DD 5.1 works perfectly from Dish TV, Blu-Ray and DVD sources, just not from Apple TV.
I am using itunes downloaded HD TV and SD movies that specify DD 5.1.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I also have just recently purchased Apple TV and am running it into the VCR port on a Bose V30 system, I have decided to use the component and optical ports on the Apple TV running into the back of the Bose surround system. I get Dolby 5.1 through Bose off my SKY HD and also PS3 using optical but not through the Apple TV. I only get PCM, sometimes even no sound at all, although once a movie or music running if I flick between audio sources I do eventually get sound. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem with this setup. I'm unsure at the moment how many movies rent or buy in i-Tunes are actual Dolby presentations? Does anyone know how this is illustrated in the store?
    Thanks in advance

There's a digital output on the card itself. 'tis the farthest one from the motherboard I beli've.
What you erally need is a cable like t his one:
    http://www.needledoctor.com/Sony-RK-...=2&category=92
Plug the mini-plug end into the soundcard and one of the outputs ( the left channel I believe ) will have the digital output.
You will only get surround sound via the decoder if when playing back pre-encoded DD/DTS content like DVDs. Games and stuff will playback in stereo when connected digitally as SPDIF only supports compressed multi-channel bitstreams or uncompressed 2 channel audio. No Creative card at present offers real time DD/DTS encoding ( there're other cards which do which support Dolby Digital Li've! or DTS Connect. ) Creative have a DTS encoder called the DTS-60 which can take analogue signals from the soundcard ( stereo mini-plug x 3 ) and encode it to DTS for output via a coaxial or optical SPDIF in real time. I've never used the DTS-60 and can't comment on how good it is. Also note that the Audigy 2 ZS has weak bass redirection if using the DTS-60 and the 60 lacks bass redirection of its own so you could very well end up with a 'bass-less' signal if you're connecting to small speakers, unless your decoder has volume controls for the subwoofer.Message Edited by nvidiot on 09-27-2006 0:32 PM

  • Software used to decode the media not available on this system

"The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system…"  I get this error message when I try to import an H.264 video file (about 3.7 GB in size) into Encore CS6 to make a Blu-Ray.  I've read the message threads about this problem but they don't seem to apply to my case.  I'm using a recent Mac Pro Tower running OS 10.8.5.  I made the H.264 file using Compressor 4 and a Matrox MX02 box using the Matrox encode setting for high-quality Blu-Ray.  I've used this workflow a number of times before and never had any trouble importing the resulting files into Encore.  I've tried starting a new Encore project and also re-doing the encoding of the H.264 file, without success.  I've also experimented with importing other, recently made H.264 files into a new Encore project and these, as before, present no problems.  I'm baffled!

I solved the problem and thought it might be helpful if I described the solution.  The error message gave no indication of the nature of the problem, which was caused by a single clip in the Avid Media Composer timeline.  This clip was an import from Photoshop, resized in Avid Media Composer.  In height, the pixel dimensions of the Photoshop file were a bit more than 1080.  I have no idea how this dimension survived rendering in Media Composer or H.264 encoding in Compressor using the Matrox MX02 box.  But it evidently did.  When I resized the image in Photoshop before importing it into Media Composer, then re-encoded the video as H.264, it imported normally as an asset into Encore.

  • ATV 2G, iOS 4.2 Update and Dolby Digital not playing

I'm hoping a few folks here have experienced the same issue and can point me in the right direction. I realize that there have been a few threads about this, perhaps with a slightly more pointed question I can at least get something going. To wit:
I recently upgraded to iOS4.2. Everything runs fine, except the Dolby Digial output. If I have this enabled/auto, and I select a video to play, it will hang indefinitely while it attempts to load. These movies all worked under the previous firmware version, and selecting Dolby Digital output "off" allows the movie to play as it normally had (albeit without 5.1). What changed between versions that now causes this error to occur? What do I need to do on my end to get 5.1 audio working like it was prior to upgrading to 5.1?
    This is very frustrating!

It's a bug, it effects ALL ATV 2 units running iOS 4.2 and 4.2.1. The bug was introduced at iOS 4.2. There are various workarounds to get your DD to play. Easiest is to start the video, press down arrow, skip to end, let ATV go to menu, select video again (it will play now with DD, if it doesn't just do steps over again).
If you are not effected then you are just not doing it right, but you DO have the bug.
The bug has been logged with Apple, feel free to log it again or call and complain. There is not an issue with your ATV physical hardware. Its a software bug. It is repeatable with ANY ATV 2 unit.

  • CS6 H264 Blu Ray Export Dolby Digital not bitrate selection Issues

    Hello,
if we try to export in H264 for Blu Ray Format and switch to Dolby Digital the bitrate selection vanishes from the setting:
But if we deselect the audio export and select it again the bitrate can be set correctly.
Seems to be a small error in the media encoder CS6

I'm seeing the same thing here.

  • I would like to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable and pass thru dolby digital. I do not have optical inputs on my receiver.

I want to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable. This should allow me to pass thru high definition video and simultaneously decode Dolby Digital material with an HDMI connection from my receiver to my TV without the use of an optical cable (my receiver does not have an optical input). I am unable to decode 5.1 material and don't understand why this is not working. In the audio setting I have Dolby Digital output turned on.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the content you are playing has Dolby Digital.

  • March XFI drivers SPDIF not working for Dolby digital playback

    >? Tried to dolby digital movies using powerdvd 8.
No sound. Drivers work fine with games/desktop. So I think they installed ok.
Dolby digital out worked fine on the previous drivers. Am I forgetting to set something?
The build in dolby digital tester works. I'll hear sound on the receiver thru dolby digital only. But movies are silent.
This is xfi fatality pro. ? vista 64 SP
Also the spdif out properties only has 2 channel format showing. Shouldn't there be 5 channel as well?

So no one has any idea how to fix this? past drivers I had spdif pass through automatic. Is it disabled somehow in the march drivers?
Using power DVD 8 not 9. So that probably has newer options that don't exist. I installed the march drivers just the drivers. All the drivers have is the audio control panel and driver. There is no other software. So maybe there is a registry hack I can do to enable the pass through to work?
I think I may have found the problem but don't know how to fix it. In the audio control panel there is no decoder tab. And that tab gives options for setting
your receiver to decode dolby digital. So I think thats why movies are silent.
Just bought powerdvd 9. Maybe 8 is no longer compatable with the latest drivers. I'll see if this fixes it or not.
Same problem in powerdvd 9. When a movie is playing it does say this "S/PDIF output device:? Speakers (2- Creative SB X-Fi) (in use)" so the spdif is in use but the signal isn't getting to the receiever. Going to try and reinstall the drivers again.

  • Will Xbox, Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers and Audigy 2 NX combo decode dolby digit

    Hi there
I have a Xbox, Logitech X-530 5. speaker system and Audigy 2 NX sound card. I want Audigy 2 NX sound card to decode dolby digital from its optical-in? (optical in is from the XBOX) .. Is it possible? If yes, how? If not, what is the solution? Can Extigy external sound card do it's
Also, can be Audigy 2 NX external sound card be stand alone instead of always being connected to the PC? I just want it to be connected to XBOX to decode dolby digital 5...
    Thanks!

it is relevant for me to post in here as someone was asking if the aud 2 zs plat dri'ves optical in or coaxial in could be used for connecting up to an external source sch as dvd player, xbox.
And i am in technical supports hand about my prouducts, so if yo u ban me i will be insisting they take action against you , as i have a valid reason for posting into these forums.
I have spent over ?3,000 on creative proucts, and the last 2 things i purchased from, creative cost ?450 the gigaworks s 750 speakers, and the audigy 2 zs platinum.
And therefore i am entitled to speak the truth.
Some one asked if the connection is possible, i am not the only person using the hardware that is having decoding lag whilst using optical in on li've dri've, it's just that not many people that have this hardware are using it like this, so they don't realise that they will have problems if they ever decide to use external dvd players, instead of the software ones like powerdvd windvd etc.
I am forwarding this entire thread to creative technical support guy that i am dealing with so he can see i am not doing anything wrong, you need to look at my other post with regards to the audigy 2 li've dri've having the exact pcb model number revisions etc, as the audigy2 zs platinum li've dri've, and that the combination of the audigy 2 li've dri've not being a connection that creative will offer support for, which is another thing i will be asking creative when i phone tech support up tomorrow, as i want to speak to someone higher up about this.
And you say you are testing this at home and cannot replicate this issue.
Can i ask what speakers you are using.
What soundcard are you using, are you using the aud 2zs plat version not the plat pro version.
Also what make of dvd player are you using to play dvds on, what spdif option your using in external dvd player ?
And what are the model numbers on your audigy 2 zs platinum li've dri've motherboard ?
Also what driver version are you using for the zs plat card ?
As i have used the supplied disc version, and updated to latest versions makes no difference.

  • Does MSI 990FXA-GD80 support Dolby Digital Live?

I need to output DD5.1 to a Turtle Beach Earforce DSS decoder. It know that some realtek-equipped motherboards can encode to DD Live do this but I don't have the option for DD Live in the Realtek Sound Manager under Supported Formats, nor in Windows sound properties under Advanced, although under Supported Formats it does show Dolby Digital (not Live) ticked.
So is it possible to do this or will I need to buy another soundcard?

    Hello,
I purchased a mini to TOSLINK optical cable to connect my GT70 0NC to my Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speaker system and I was wondering if the ALC892 supports Dolby Digital Live. I'm able to get DTS and Dolby Digital to work just fine, but I don't see an option to change the default format of the digital output in the Realtek HD Audio Manager to Dolby Digital Live. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with the latest audio drivers available.
    Thanks
    I hate saying this.
Do yourself a favor, go buy an Asus Xonar U3, plug it in, and you will be much happier.
I have a Z680 (precursor to the Z5500, pretty much the same thing though), and I couldn't stand how bad the Realtek HD performed. The Asus Xonar does a much better job. You hook it up, set it to output to the 'speakers', but have your TOSLINK cable connected, and you get upconverted dolby digital live sound output. Couldn't ask for anything better. The U3 only runs about $40, so it's not a huge investment.
