"Decompression Bug" in Early 4.0 Versions

Just wanted to through something out there that we ran across.
In AsyncOS versions earlier then 4.0.6-12 there is an issue with inbound ZIP files containing many little files.
We noticed that if a ZIP file containing thousands of small files entered the Ironport it would "hang" the system for between 1 and 3 minutes. There would be NO response at all... command line would hang, web services would hang and most importantly not further SMTP traffic would be processed.
We did have the content filters processing within ZIP files for attachment extensions.
With 4.0.6-12 this problem was resolved. And the filter threads properly.
One way we noticed this problem is because we would get "anti-virus timeout" alerts. What would happen is a message would enter AV to be scanned, and then the system would hang on one of these zip files. By the time the system started again, it was past the max timelimit for the AV and it would kick the message out as unscannable.
I have to give Ironport credit. Once they agreed this was a serious issue, it was resoved within weeks.

Could someone clarify what Adobe's policy is regarding fixing bugs in earlier versions than the current, in particular
Adobe have agreed there is a problem importing footage from Atomos Ninja regarding the audio channels, but they say it is fixed in CS5.5,
no mention of CS5
I have CS5, and wondered if Adobe stop fixing bugs in earlier versions once a new version is announced.
Yes i know I can upgrade, but at this stage I dont want to do that, i just want a bug fixed in software I have purchased

I understand the problem you have, but please try to understand Adobe's position as well. They have limited resources and they have to fix bugs in the current version, test extensively whether they did not break anything in the process of fixing the bug, while at the same time they are busy developing a next version with new features, that users have requested, testing that extensively. At the same time there is a further complication in that all the programs in say the Master Collection must be ready at the same time for market introduction.
With all these complications and the limited resources, priorities have to be set. How critical is a bug, is there a workaround, how many are affected? Of course the currently sold version has a higher priority than a version no longer sold. It might even be an enticement for many to upgrade to the current version.

I chroot into workdir. uncommented en_US.UTF-8 in /etc/locale.gen, run locale-gen and now get this inside the chroot.

It's the first time I use a custom-repo and I set it up only for this purpose. So yes, it's up to date and can be used outside the chroot. Also a different package I put from AUR into my custom-repo installs fine and doesn't give this error.
How else could I test the custom-repo?

Hi,
Every single time I try and browse data in one of my tables, I get the annoying "Connection is currently busy. Try Again?" pop-up alert message with "Try Again" and "Abort" options.
This is very annoying and I dont know how to stop it happening.
Is this a bug or can someone suggest a setting I can try to get around it?

I don't know if it's worthwhile raising issues with v3 as the developers are now working on v4. You can download an Early Adopter version available on OTN I think.
If you're new to SQL Developer, it's worth knowing that a single click on an item in the navigator tends to do what you would expect a double-click to do. I think a double click can cause the same action to be started twice.

I have Garageband version 4.1.2 (248.7) installed on my early 2008 IMAC Version 10.5.8. I have never upgraded but have a LOT of projects. If I upgrade my operating system to the next level (10.6?), will my GB version still work? Do I need to upgrade GB?

AUR has a bug in the way it versions packages. [WORKED AROUND]

If you check out my PKGBUILD in the AUR (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29410), you'll notice its version on the page is "smooth-tasks-pkgver.txt", while the ${pkgver} variable in its PKGBUILD is "wip_2009_09_13". `smooth-tasks-pkgver.txt' is a file the PKGBUILD uses to temporarily store the correct ${pkgver} of the package (not its mercurial revision), which is then used to update the arch package and PKGBUILD.
It was an experiment to see how I could manipulate makepkg's standard versioning scheme to reflect the actual author's package version rather than the mercurial revision, and it works! AUR just seems to have an issue with the way it parses the PKGBUILD.
I figured it would be best to discuss this on the forums before filing an actual bug report.
EDIT: changed the title from "... names packages" to "... versions packages", and edited the post body to correct my original misconception the bug lies in how the AUR names packages, and not versions them.

I don't understand your logic, what is `[ 1 ]' for? It reminds me of the pieces of code I occasionally come across that look something like:

I reckon it makes since to someone, I've just never understood the logic behind such blocks.
The above snippet of code is one way of creating a block comment within Bash scripts, since whatever is located between the `EOF' tags is piped to nowhere (and thus isn't displayed); by placing a block comment at the end of the PKGBUILD containing an explicit ${pkgver} declaration, I am able to dictate to the AUR what the package version should be, and still have the segment of code ignored by `makepkg' when the script is executed.
EDIT: Unless, you mean to use something like `(( 0 ))', which Bash will evaluate to false and thus ignore the proposition. That would indeed make since, but, in my opinion, isn't really any clearer than my implementation.

Opening projects in earlier or newer versions of FCP

I am working on a profect that I originally saved on FCP 5.0.2. I have version 5.1.1. When I tried to open it on my computer, that message comes up that says the project you are trying to open was created on an earlier version. Then it says, once you save it you will not be able to open it on earlier versions. my problem is that I really need to work on this project on both computers. Is there any way around this?

Yeah, I definitely dont want to go backwards on my computer. The version I need to update is 5.0.2. How would I update it to 5.1.1? I looked under the downloads on apple.com and the only one I found was for 5.0.4. also the computer that has 5.0.2 on it does not have the internet. Could I download the updates on my computer and put them on a disk then put it on that computer?
If you could help me out anymore I would really appreciate it.

Aperture 3.3 Bug: Syncing Stacks Syncs All Versions, Not Just Pick

Aperture 3.3 has a pretty significant bug. Syncing to iOS devices results in all versions in a Stack to be synced to the device, not just the Picks. This is a HUGE problem as two things happen:
1) The amount of space consumed by the versions can be increased several fold.
2) There can be incredible redundancy when viewing photos on iOS devices because of all the extra versions, in many cases the versions may be indistinguishable.
Does anybody have a work around for this, or know if Apple has acknowledged this bug?

I've run into the same problem, and it also affects the Apple TV -- my screensaver slideshow started to look pretty strange when all of the extra versions in my various stacks began appearing
Anyway, I have found what may be an acceptable workaround. Since iTunes is only using the previews in Aperture, it will exclude any images for which previews do not exist. So, if you choose the non-pick images in each of your stacks and delete their previews (right-click and choose "Delete Previews") they will be removed from any albums that are syncing to your iOS devices or Apple TV.

Can I update iPhoto8 on early 2008 macbook version 10.7.5

Need to update iphoto to use icloud storage and to sinc with photos on iphone4s running on ios7. Have tried to update to the latest but no joy. Get a message informing that iphoto 7.1.5 is already installed and was not purchased from the mac app store - do I want to but iphoto 9.5.1? when I click to buy get message informing that iphoto can't be installed on macintosh HD as mac os x version 10.9 or later irs required. Tried to install an earlier version iphoto 9.3 but same happened. Is there anyway to update iphoto as is? Have tried to install Mavericks but system too old aparently. iPhoto 7 is from the iLife '08 suite which came out in 2007. iLife '11 has version 9 of iPhoto.
The App Store version of iLife ‘11 programs (iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, Garage Band & iWeb) will only work with 10.7 or 10.8 with the latest update requiring 10.9. You can get the iLife ’11 DVD which will run on 10.6 on eBay or Amazon.com fairly cheap.

Early and Late Versions of hardware

For various reasons Apple will refer to our mac products as 'early 200x', 'late 200x' etc. I don't find anything in the hardware/software profiles that would tip me off to early/late/whatever. Assuming I found a date of mfr somewhere on the device (hopefully without removing the battery or something like that) does 'early=before July 1 and late=after June 30??

Apple may release a Mac model version more than once a year.
In such instances, the serial number or the model number is usually a good means of determining when it was released.
The serial number though may be removed if the logicboard is replaced on the model. Then it becomes somewhat more difficult to determine what the age of the machine is.
Do not disclose your serial number on Apple Discussions. There is a small chance it might be used to pilfer information about your computer's warranty and other personal information gathered about you that you wouldn't want to have gathered that you have supplied to Apple.
That said, you can use the serial number to determine the age of the computer.
It consists of three elements in its first five characters.
The first two are an alphanumeric code for the manufacturing site.
The 3rd is the last digit of the year of manufacture.
The 4th and 5th are the week of manufacture.
Use a spreadsheet, putting the 1/1/year at the beginning of the first cell,
while each row adding to the previous will have that first cell+7.
The row number will give you the week number in that year.

It is obsolete, since coding practices and web standards have progressed quite a bit since that time.
Any suggestions? What's involved in upgrading to 10.4 so I could run something a little newer?
I strongly suggest you invest in upgrading your Mac to 10.4 while you still can; and max out your RAM while you're at it, since you'll need all you can get. You can still buy a retail version of 10.4 from several sources: Mac OS X. Or, if you're really cheap (or frugal) you can also download the Camino 1.6.5 browser, which works on 10.3.9.

Other than moving to Version 4 or 5, neither of which support Java which I need, is there a way to fix the "Exc in ev handl: TypeError: this.oRoot.enable is not a function" bug I am getting in version 3.6.23?

I have used Version 4 and 5 and unfortunately neither supports Java functions that I require. I like the look and feel of 3.6.23 but there seems to be a script error on startup of Mozilla. When I double click the Icon to open the program I get "'''Exc in ev handl: TypeError: this.oRoot.enable is not a function'''" and so far haven't been able to locate the code line to fix it. I would rather not reverse Engineer the program.
