Decoupling itunes tv shows from music

I've seen this question asked a few times in archived e-mails, but never answered, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I've got plenty of room on my powerbook for my iTunes music library, and I like keeping it there. However, my recent work schedule has required that I be away from home for long stretches of time. Thus, the new beauty of TV Shows from the iTunes store. However, I am quickly running out of space on my hardrive to hold all of these (rather large) files. I would prefer not to have to delete shows after I've watched them (hey, I paid for these!) and would like to move JUST the tv shows to my extra external hard drive. I want to keep my music on my computer for ease of syncing my non video iPod (in my travels, I only packed limited cords - both the iPod and my external drive use the single firewire port on the powerbook). I know that (if I can somehow find and communicate what I need in a language I don't speak) I can get other cords or whatnot in a pinch, but I'd really prefer to keep the music on the computer for convenience/access as well.
So, is there any way to change the target destination for JUST the tv shows/movies in the iTunes folder to a separate drive?

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but there's no way to make iTunes automatically maintain the TV Show folder on a separate drive. Sure, you can back up the files, but new downloads will still go into the main iTunes Music folder.
I'd like to keep the Podcasts in a separate folder, because when I back up my music library (in the Finder or in Toast... I don't like the iTunes way), I don't want daily or weekly podcasts included.
I think there should be separate "iTunes Music", "iTunes Podcasts", iTunes Movies", "iTunes TV Shows" and "iTunes Music Videos" folders in the main iTunes folder, and that we should be able to select a different destination for each... something like this:

The massage means what it says. iTunes can't find the actual music files. All iTunes has is a database of where the files should be and they are not there.
    Try:
    - iTunes: Finding lost media and downloads
    - Redownloading iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

TV Shows from Music Store have no audio for me...any fixes? I can't figure it out at all. And now that I check, things I encoded that used to work are also muted out. Hmmm...
EDIT: Ok, it has to be iTunes. They play on my iPod just fine...

  • When i plug my ipod into itunes it shows the music i put on there, but when i disconnect it says i have no music.

I have a 6th generation ipod nano, When i plug it into the itunes it shows the music i have on there, but when i disconnect it says i have no music. What do i do?

You may want to do a Restore on the iPod in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings.  If the problem is caused by data corruption in the iPod's storage, a Restore should fix it.

  • Using iTunes Match, Show All Music not working for one playlist

I am using an iPhone 6 Plus with iOS 8.2. I just recently subscribed to iTunes Match and all of my music has been matched/uploaded.
When I turn on iTunes Match and Show All Music on my iPhone, all of my playlists show up but one of them is incomplete, and doesn't have an option to download the missing songs from the cloud.
So, for example, I have a playlist that on my Mac has 696 songs and they are all matched by iTunes Match, and they all appear as either already on my phone or downloadable. Most of the other playlists are the same: working as expected. But I also have a playlist that on my Mac has 58 songs and they are all matched by iTunes Match, but only nine of them appear on my phone (they were already there), and none of the remaining 49 are showing as available to download from the cloud.
Is it possible to fix this? I've had bad luck in the past deleting playlists on the phone with the goal of having them refresh during the next sync. (The bad luck involved my playlists being deleted in iTunes on my Mac after the sync.)

    Hi Michael,
thanks for this, this helped me out as I just had the same issue but on my iPad lol.
Forgot about that setting even though I knew about it, just goes to show, out of sight, out of mind.

Then should I Consolidate files or Reorganize under Organize library?
    Should I use export library?
Can you please give a clue what steps should I take?
These are questions you should ask before you do anything.

  • In I Movie I can't get ITunes to show the music to select from

I am currently editing a movie and want to put some background music into it, which I have been able to do up till now! For some reason I cannot get the ITunes to open in the I movie  when I go to the left side of the list of things you can use i.e. titles transitions, i tunes etc... I click on ITunes and nothing appears!? Please help

You can either use mirrored display - same picture on both screens (shortcut is Command + F1)
    Or
Extended display - which it is in now. Go to System Preferences > Display > You will see 2 screens there. Move them where you want them, but if the TV in that menu is on the right, then you will have to drag the movie window right past the edge of the screen for it to show up on the TV. Or you can move the screens around in the menu if you'd rather drag off to the left.
So basically, if you move your mouse past the edge of your screen, have a look at your TV because that's where your mouse will now be.
    Make sense?

  • New iTunes only shows Purchased Music. Help!

Wow, I cannot believe how inconvenient the new iTunes has been. Hoping someone can help.
This is what I was used to and loved on my iMac:
    1. List view: All Playlists on left column, with "Library" on top, then "Purchased", Genius, TV, and so on; and ALL my music (songs) in the right side of main window.
    2. I just click or choose "New Playlist" and a new one would show up in the left column with the rest of my playlists so I could see them all at the same time.
    3. I just click and drag any song I want from the right side to whatever playlist (old or new) and the song would be added.
    Simple, easy and quick.
NOW with the new, "improved" version:
    1. List view is fine (playlists on left, songs on right) but it takes a couple clicks to get to it--not my default view (default is annoying and illogical album cover view).
    2. On the list on the left side (under "Playlists"), "Purchased" is at top--NO choice for my entire music library! So if I click on "Purchased", it only shows me purchased music, which is only a third of my library.
    3. In order to add a playlist, there is no choice on the pulldown menu from the top. I have  to click the icon at the bottom left of the window for a pull down and select "New Playlist"--HOWEVER, the entire window suddenly shifts!! The new Playlist is now for some reason on the RIGHT side, and only *then* is my music library listed in the main window, which has shifted to the left. But in this view I can no longer see all my other playlists! Extremely confusing, illogical, unintuitive and completely unnecessary.
    4. Strangely, when in "regular" Playlist mode (where all my Playlists are listed in the narrow left window and my Purchased music is on the right main one), I can still click and drag songs, but only to add to my OLD playlists.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get back to the easy way? Where my "Library" is listed in the left "Playlists" window and ALL my songs are listed on the right?
And is there ANY way to to add a new playlist to the main Playlist list on the left column without having to switch to the next window?
Any help is most appreciated.  Thanks much!

I think I just solved this! I, too, was having the same issue.
    Try this:
In itunes V11.1.5, there is a small line of choices across the top of the interface window that begins with, "Radio • Songs • Albums, etc.
    Click on "songs."
Now, go to the iTunes menu > View, and select "Show sidebar."
Bingo! There is your Library; the list we've all grown so accustomed to, including ALL of our songs (not just purchased) and playlists.
I hope this is what you were asking, and that I have explained it well, becasue I'm very excited to have just found this solution. Best of luck.

  • ITunes not showing my music!!!!!

So I have an iPhone 4 and I used my ringtone designer app and then synced the ringtones so they would show up in my settings, but once I synced them, all my music, movies, etc. were removed from my phone!! Then, I synced my music from my iTunes library to my iPhone music library, but when I did that, all those songs I just synced to my phone did NOT show up in my iPhone music library on my computer. The songs all show up on my phone, but not the library when it is hooked up to my macbook. So I can't manage my songs or delete any off my phone since absolutely none of them show up on my computer. I have ejected my iPhone off the computer and then rehooked it up, but it still didn't show up. This is really frustrating. HELP!!

It sounds like you are trying to manually manage the media on your iPod while you have it set to Auto Sync. This document explains the difference in the two methods. You can switch between the two, but you can use both at the same time.

  • ITunes Content missing from Music Player on iPhone

Certain iTunes content that I sync to my iPhone 4 is present on the device, but missing from certain categories in the Music Player. For example, I have an many albums from the The Rolling Stones, when I search by artist, pull up The Rolling Sones, certain albums are missing, even if I select ALL SONGS they aren't even listed there. I know they are on the device because I can find them by searching by album, or by just doing a general search on the iPhone. This is not just an issue with one artist, it's many. I have done a full restore with no luck. What's the deal, and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

  • Move/play/auth iTunes TV shows from eMac to PC running windows ME?

How can I play the tv shows I've downloaded, on to my emac, on the PC. Itunes doesnt support ME. Do I need to be connected to itunes store to authorize PC?
Do I need a certain version of QT (like the mac) to play tv shows on PC?
    Thank you in advance

    Windows ME QT 6x

Yes, you have to connected to the "net" long enough to authorize the system. There's no way around that. You should be able to play videos as long as you're using at least iTunes 6 & the QT you have. Since iTunes doesn't support ME, you will probably not be able to do this, if you need to download to a PC with ME.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

  • Transferring iTunes TV shows from old PC to new MAC

I recently purchased the a brand new MacBook Pro in mid-July. I would like to know how to get the TV shows I bought through iTunes on my old windows laptop to my new macbook pro. I have the same account pulled up that I purchased them with, but it says only one machine is authorized to play purchases. How do I authorize my new machine, and is there a way to recover my old TV shows purchased and add them to my new iTunes library?

To authorize your new computer, open iTunes and under the menu for Store (not actually in the iTunes Store) select Authorize Computer.
Do you still have the old windows laptop with your files on it? If so, you need to move them to a thumb drive or burn to a disc and transfer them to your Mac. If you no longer have the laptop, hopefully you have the files synced to an iPod. If so, you should be able to transfer your purchases.
