Decrease battery life since Maxx software upgrade

My Droid Maxx HD had excellent battery life prior to my recent software upgrade that occurred earlier this week. Now come 5pm my battery that use to last till 9pm is dead! What can I do to extend the life of the battery so it does what I bought it for?

Sorry for the battery issues, but let's narrow down what could be doing it.  I'm gonna provide some information that will help you this.  Some of the information will have a question before it, and the information will clarify why the question is important.
How are your charging your device on a normal basis?  If you are charging it in the car more often than the wall, that will not give you a quality charge and you will see the charge drain faster than charging it from an outlet.
How do you close your apps?  Most game apps are intensive on your battery if they remain open, even if you are not actively using the app.  Simply pressing the home button doesn't allow your device to "sleep" so you're going to have a degredation in battery life.
Have you updated the apps since your device software updated?  If the app version you currently have isn't what is most current, it would cause issues  with overall performance.
What charger are you using?  If it's not the charger that came with the device, or an approved charger you would have issues getting a quality charge.
Do you recall any app you downloaded right before you began having issues?  Some apps are "high risk" and interfere with your device and it's functioning.  If you have installed an app right before this started you can try uninstalling them in reverse order from their installation.
Well, I'm done taking up your time and I hope this information helps.  If you find out it is an app you recently downloaded, but you want the app I would suggest either posting some feedback to the app developers.  An alternative solution would be to purchase a charging case/portable charger.  Good luck with your battery issues.

Why is my battery life drain quickly

Mine is better. You will find thousands of discussions about battery life with every version and every upgrade and between upgrades over the past 7 years. Nothing is different with iOS 7. Rather than me repeating what must have been said tens of thousands of times for this and every other version try searching the forum for answers. Start with "More Like This" to the right.

  • Since the software upgrade connecting to hotspot from my iphone with my ipad is not working.

Since the software upgrade , I cannot connect my ipad2 to my iphone 4s via the phones hotspot.  Regular wifi is ok.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I tried resetting the network settings on the ipad, but it didn't help.  The ipad sees the hotspot, but doesn't connect.  My phone service is with Verizon.

I think I solved the problem.  I did a network reset on both the ipad and iphone.  So far so good.

Why is my battery life worse following software update?

    Dont Bother Audre
If you have updated to 6.1.1 and your phone is outside the warrenty perios, then you WILL have issues, so you take your phone to Apple and they will give you a replacement for £139 and they will also say its much cheaper what you paid for your handset!!!!
Just wait for the next update - If they have a heart and care for the 4s users, they will fix the battery issue too

  • Poor battery life since Yosemite upgrade

    Hi all,
Since upgrading to Yosemite I have noticed that I only get about 5 hours of battery life, even when just running Safari and Mail. I have checked the battery life and it is reporting as good. I have also reset PRAM and SMC but that didn't seem to change anything. Here is a dump from EtreCheck but I couldn't find anything obvious there either. Does anyone have any ideas or is this battery life as good as to be expected?

  • BB TOUR SEVERELY DECREASED BATTERY LIFE AFTER 5.0 OS UPGRADE

I have read several other posts on this subject, but want fresh input here. Since upgrading to the 5.0 OS a couple of months ago I have noticed a big decrease in battery life. It used to last 2 days off a full charge and I do a lot of data, calling, etc. This was not a problem with the 4.7 OS. I got a replacement battery, then bought a spare battery, then got a replacement Tour last week as it is under warranty and Verizon convinced me it was the device itself.
The new Tour came with 5.0 loaded and the battery life is the same. I now am convinced it has to be the 5.0 OS, because we shouldn't have to go through all these power saving strategies that we didn't have to before the upgrade. I like some of the things that you get with the 5.0, but if a battery that doesn't last a full day is the trade off, no thanks.
Anyone know of any other fix, or is it best to downgrade back to 4.7?

I have the same problem.  I have the 8900 and just upgraded to v5.0.0.822 this week.  My battery only last a 1/2 day (from 7 am to 3 pm) when it use to last 2 days before the upgrade.
I have my screen lighting set to 10%.  This helped in the past with battery life.  The only processes running in the background are:
    Call Log
    BlackBerry Messenger
    Home Screen
    Browser

Any solutions?  Is there any type of help desk I can call?

  • 2.1 Decreased Battery Life and Increased Charging Time

Ever since I upgraded to 2.1, my battery life has been decreased significantly. My usage has actually went down since them, but the battery isn't lasting nearly as long. I have to charge it at least once or twice a day, sometimes more during heavy use. On top of that, charging it is taking much longer than it used to. I'm plugging it into my computer and it says it's charging but I've had it in for hours and the battery charge meter has barely moved.

I've experienced the exact opposite. I can fully charge in about an hour and by the end of a work day under normal usage, I still have more than 50% battery. Normal usage to me is reading about 15 emails, reading news for about 20 mins on the web, a few phone calls, searching for new software in the App store, reading reviews of said software, a quick game or two of Enigmo or Cro-mag Rally and listening to tunes in Ipod mode.
Sounds like you have a defective charging cable. As for your battery draining, check to see if WiFi is on, if so, turn it off when you don't need it. Also turn off Blue tooth if you don't need it. I've also read that if you have the Equalizer enabled in Ipod mode that this will add to the drain. Check your brighness settings also, I find that if the brightness slider is set to about 1/3 and autobrightness set, this works well for most situtations. I may need to increase brightness in bright sun light, but thats about it. Do you have the AC adapter for charging? If so, see if this increases your charging times. Computer charging does take longer than the AC adapter but not as long as you described.
    Good luck

  • Problems with ipod battery life AND new software

First of all, I'm not 100% sure if my ipod is fifth generation... it's a 30 GB and I've had it since December 2006. This just seemed to be the only category it fit into.
But here we go: I have two major problems with my ipod that have arisen in only a period of a couple days.
First of all, my battery life suddenly got REALLY REALLY bad. I know there are already a bunch of threads with people complaining about their battery life, but mine is much worse. The battery life did progressively get a little worse over the past few weeks, but it was nothing major. But I turned my ipod on the other day, RIGHT after fully charging it, mind you, and within 2-3 minutes the battery was halfway discharged and in about 5 minutes it was almost dead.
And a couple of times, I had my ipod plugged into my iBook to charge, and the iBook went into sleep mode because I left it alone for a while. But after a couple hours I came back and the battery level was LOWER than when I plugged it in!!!! What's going on with this thing?
And then to make matters worse, I finally broke down and downloaded the new ipod software the other day (sorry I can't remember the version, but it's the most recent). Everything seemed OK until I turned on my ipod the next day. With the old software, when I would select "Music>" and then "Artists>" it would go to the list of artists like it's SUPPOSED to.
But now, when I select "Artists>" it then goes to a list entitled "Artists" and my ONLY option is "All>". If I click "All>" then it takes me to a second list called "All Albums" and my only option again is "All>". When I click it again, it takes me to a list called "All Songs" with NOTHING in it. At first, I was afraid the update had deleted all the music off my ipod, but I plugged it back into my computer and according to iTunes, everything was still there as if nothing had happened.
Is there anything I can do to remedy either of these problems? I am so frustrated with this thing, considering both of these things happened rather suddenly and the fact that my ipod is not even a year old and it's not like I've been abusing it or anything.

I've had both exact problems (listed below) within days of each other just like you. This is extremely effing frustrating and it appears Apple isn't doing sh|t about it.
Problem 1: Battery constantly discharges even when ipod is turned off.
Problem 2: After upgrading firmware to 1.2.2, all my content (songs, podcasts, everything) was gone.
I'm glad to say I was able to fix problem 2 after reading about reverting back to version 1.2.1. There are instructions in this forum on how to do it. If you are like me, you'll have to download the 1.2.1 files from Apple's website because they were no longer on my computer.
This dieing/dead battery problem is a major effing pain in the a$$. Like you say, the effing thing is dead after minutes. The only way it can be used for any length of time is to leave it plugged in to a charger.
No one seems to have a solution which is even more upsetting than the problem. Hey Apple, I want my money back!

  • Diminished battery life since 10.6.5 update

I updated my computer with the OS X 10.6.5 update when it came out a week or two ago and since the update, my battery life has gotten incredibly short compared to what it used to be. Normally, without having Airport on, just using Microsoft word, I would easily get 7 hours of battery life. Since the update, with 100% battery I'm getting 3.5 hours at the most and it's down to 75% within 20 to 30 minutes. Oh and I've had the computer for about 3 months. Battery health is already down to 92%
I'm beginning to think I just got a buggy computer because I've been having trackpad issues, and my USB ports don't recognize printers, no matter what I do.
Any idea's on my battery problem? I have searched and searched the internet and have found nothing so it may be an isolated issue.

This sounds exactly like what My 13 inch (mid-2010) MBP is doing.
From day one (about 4 months ago), the battery showed that it was down to 92% with coconut battery? I've never gotten over about 6 hours of battery life; after this latest update to .5, I'm lucky if I get 3.5 hours of battery life.
I've checked the activity monitor and nothing is running the CPU excessively, except when I'm watching something in flash, but even if I block all flash, I still get the same battery life. Also, it's always warm on the bottom (even with flash blocked) and the fan runs all the time, too.
I'm not doing anything differently than I did before the update - just have chrome open all the time.
I swear apple is getting lazy with everything software related lately.

  • T500 Battery Life post Windows 7 Upgrade

Have a 6 month old T500 which I love.  Always had good battery life (can't remember the duration, but never had an issue with battery life).
Earlier this week, I did the Windows 7 Upgrade (machine originally came with Windows Vista OS).  After doing the upgrade, I've noticed a substantial decrease in battery life (now lasts for about 2 hours max).
Have reinstalled ThinkVantage Power Manager and Toolbox applications, but that hasn't helped.  Also did power meter reset, but that doesn't seemed to have helped.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions out there?

  • 10.4.4 and/or Battery Updater decreases battery life???

This is a cry to the community.
I just returned from the Apple Store where the Genius was unable to provide me with any assistance. The best advice he had was to engender community support for Apple to issue a software fix for my problem. This is my problem:
    I have a 15" aluminum Powerbook, non-high resolution, purchased May, 2005.
A few days ago I installed the 10.4.4 and the Battery Updater software updates, from the Software Updater. I immediately noticed that the hard disk stopped spinning down during periods of inactivity.
Later that night, when I unplugged the power adapter, I was surprised to see that the battery life was now only about 1:20, down from about 3:00 before installing the updates.
Turns out that the Battery Update was only intended for the new battery design shipping with the 15" HR model. There appears to be no way to revert to the previous firmware.
Is anyone else having a similar problem?
    Thanks, Mark

    Hi, Carla--
Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear about your battery. I try to explain what the numbers mean, but I also think that with a brand-new PowerBook, you have a pretty good case to make to Apple that they owe you better battery run-time. The 3-month rule might be an issue if you didn't purchase AppleCare.
The first number that's relevent is "Capacidad de plena carga (mAh)". Hope English is okay with you. This is a technical measure of how much charge your battery can hold, like the number of gallons of gas that a car's fuel tank can hold. This capacity will decline over time because batteries wear out and hold less total charge as they wear out. "mAh" means milliAmp Hours--milli just means 1/1000. Amp is a measure of current, like a 12 Amp vacuum cleaner. If you run a vacuum for an hour, it uses 12 Amp-Hours of electricity. Your battery hold 4249 milli-Amp-Hours--or 4.249 Amp-Hours--of charge when it's fully charged.
The second number, "Capacidad restante", is the remaining charge that is left. Like when a car's gas tank is 3/4 full. Your's shows 3437 mAh, which is about 3/4 of the full charge. Remember, the full charge is the Capacidad de plena carga.
The third number, "Amperaje", is the amount of electricity that is going in or out of the battery. A negative number means electricity is flowing out--i.e., the laptop is running off of the battery. If it keeps using up the charge at the same rate for an hour, it will have used up that many milliAmp-Hours.
So, your laptop is running off of the battery and using 2898 mAh per hour. About 3000. Now look at the Capacidad de plena carga, again. The maximum charge is about 4200 mAh. Just divide the usage into the capacity, and you'll see that your battery will last about 4200/3000=1.4 hours. And, that's exactly what you said.
Sorry for such a detailed (and boring) post.
But, now the problem is obvious. The software update that we downloaded and installed didn't change the battery capacity. It made the computer use a lot more electricity. For instance, my Powerbook went from using about 1200 mA to about 3500 mA every hour. In other words, since my battery only holds 3800mAh, I go through the full charge in about 3800/3500=1.1 hours.
And, yes, that's exactly what happens.
Thanks, everyone. I'm going to call AppleCare back tomorrow and be a bit more insistent that they address this issue.

  • What is REALLY causing the decreased battery life on my 4S?

Suffice it to say that I've seen all of the related posts.  While I'm glad to see that I'm not alone, none of those posts really seem to help me, so I'm putting my own post out here.
I can't say exactly when the problems began, but they definitely started getting noticed by me AFTER the iOS6 upgrade.  First, my phone just died at 16%, and came back on at 16%.  Even though I calibrate monthly, I figured that it was time for another calibration, which I did after talking to an Apple rep and filing an actual case.  She gave me the obvious party line - nothing wrong, calibrate once a month, close all background apps as much as possible, charge it to 100% then take it off of the charger, try to minimize email push/pull, location services, bluetooth, brightness, etc., etc.  So the problems seemed to go away.
Today I leave the house with the phone at around 98%.  Minimal activity while I am driving but it is trying to pull email occasionally on a rainy day where service is probably spotty.  In any case, 20 minutes into the drive, I'm down to 75%, and by the time I reach my meeting location an hour later, I am under 50%.  Any time that I'm not looking at the phone, it stays put, but even the slightest inquiry into email or using an app, I can literally see the battery level going down.
I decide to hit the Genius Bar at my local Apple store on the way home.  He runs diagnostics on the battery, everything is fine (of course).  He says AT&T, if coverage is spotty or inconsistent, and it keeps trying to pull email and the like on a rainy day, could definitely drain battery down. Makes sense, sort of, but a lot of times I'm on a WiFi connection and it's still draining battery.  Yeah, I know, WiFi uses battery too.  Just getting more and more confused.  And this Genius tells me to keep the phone ON the charger, it's Lithium, it's forgiving, just leave it plugged in.  Now my head hurts.  By the time that I leave said Genius, I am plugged in my car and charging somewhere below 10%.  Home 1 hour and I'm already back up to 76% but that last 10% or so is going to take forever.  Normal, I know.
So as all of this is going on and my battery issues continue, or not, maybe I have no issues here, I can't help but wondering if some or all of this has something to do with the iOS6 upgrade?  I didn't ask the question of the Apple tech on the phone, or the Genius at the bar, not that I probably would have gotten a straight answer like "oh yes, there is a known issue between battery life and the iOS6, just don't talk too loud about it " but I find it more than a coincidence that this just started happening around the same time.  And by the number of posts, I'm not alone.
My question is, is it possible that the iOS6 upgrade is causing this newfound battery drain on my iPhone 4S, and shy of telling me to "reboot", "reset", "close all apps" or "watch my power consumption", what is Apple doing to address this/these issue(s)?

You are def not the only person with this issue.  However, it is NOT because of the update.  It is cause by your usage and how your phone is set up.  I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but they gave us new features that do require more attention.  All power saving setting should be applied as they directed you.  But you can also start by reducing your phones usage, when it "stays put".  Start by closing apps you don't need running in the back ground.  Turn off location services for apps you dont need...  As an example, FB allows you to post a status and include your location...  But how does it know your location...?  cause its ALWAYS checking through out the day as you travel around so that it finds your location quicker by looking at your last known location.  Then you can also start by setting your screen brighness to auto.  Even though its on "auto" you determine the brightness that it should use on auto.  So dim your screen some.  Even a 25% reduction will add an hour or more to your phone.  Turn off notifications you don't need....  Even if you dont look at them, they still light up your screen and suck battery life... You can also set your notifications to alert you once and not twice as its set as a default.  If your using "find my friends" and you have a buddy who is a little too hyped about the app and stalking someones movements, then that location tracking is sucking the life out of your phone...  Just as an example...  Lets say your using it, and your buddy added you.  If you buddy thinks his wife is up to something and hes stalking her movements, every time he goes looking to see what she's doing, he's also checking on you....  Make sense??
