Decreasing sensitivity of trackpad

I have just purchased a mac os x leopard and have not been able to decrease the sensitivity of the trackpad. When I place the cursor over something, simply removing my finger actually moves the cursor off of the chosen spot that I want to click on! I went to systems preference and then to trackpad and there is no option to change the sensitivity!( I also went to keyboard/mousepad.) I also would like to increase the speed of deleting when using the delete button to move the cursor. Where is this option?

1. You are posting in the Tiger 10.4 forum area. You are running Leopard 10.5.
2, I assume your Mac purchase was a new MacBook. Perhaps better to post in that forum area where the MacBook experts hang out since this appears to be more of a hardware issue than software.

  • Can i reduce sensitivity of trackpad to avoid inadvertent activation?

I enjoy use of the activated "Tap Track Pad" option in System Preferences/Trackpad for secondary clicking, however, I experience many annoying inadvertent click activations in that mode. Is there any way to reduce the trackpad sensitivity to avoid those inadvertent clicks?

Whatever control you have is what is provided in the Keyboard & Mouse preferences. There are a couple of third-party utilities you could try to see if they provide additional control features:
    MultiClutch
    SideTrack
You will find them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Decreasing sensitivity of SunONE Portal search engine

When calculating a relevancy score, the SunOne Portal Search Engine (formerly Compass server) calculates relevancy out to 6 significant digits. Apparently due to the floating-point rounding routines, 2 documents with identical data will have slightly different relevancy scores, given the same search parameters. This ordinarily wouldn't be a problem, but for our application of Search, the documents need to show up with an identical score. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there any way to force the search engine to ignore the last few digits of score, or round up to the nearest integer?

the search config files are stored in /var/opt/SUNWps/https-hostname/portal/config
can you clarify more about the type of search ur doing ..
I did a search and listed and the values only in integer format

  • 10.5.4 update and decreased wireless sensitivity??

Ever since updating to 10.5.4. I have noticed that the macbook seems less sensitive to picking up nearby access points. A lot of AP's that I used to see show up in my neighborhood on 10.5.3 no longer appear in the wireless scans... although some do sometimes. Overall though I see decreased sensitivity... is anyone else seeing this?

I too have a MacBook (purchased 12/07) showing the same symptoms, but it didn't start with 10.5.4. The decreased sensitivity started a couple of weeks ago. Wireless connections used to be rock solid and stable. Now, not only can I not see other networks in the neighborhood like I used to, the networks in my own home come and go and sometimes there are connection errors.
I have an Airport Express module in the same room as the MacBook... sometimes the MacBook sees it, sometimes not. Same with my primary wireless router... sometimes the Macbook doesn't see it, and, when waking from sleep, it takes longer to connect. Used to be pretty much instantaneous. Now I have to wait.
I just updated to 10.5.4 today hoping that might make things better, but there has been no change, better or worse. I am thinking that it's a hardware issue, like something wrong with the Macbook's airport circuits. I hope not. I don't have faith that Apple will fix it properly.

  • XPS 13 9343 touchpad firmware

I have one of the new XPS 13 laptops that's plagued with poor touchpad performance.  It looks like a new firmware was released to address this problem but it's only supported for installation on Windows 8.1.  I have already removed 8.1 and clean-installed Windows 7 and when I attempt flashing it crashes.  What are my options for installing this update?  Only thing I can think of is temporarily installing 8.1 just to install the update then switching back to Win7 as the firmware should be independent of the OS, but that would be a huge pain.
Here's a thread (one of many) that outlines the poor performance and provides a link to the update: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19616659
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Todd

Hi I'm the original poster.  I originally used an old work login of "RustonPaving" for ease but as this is turning into a bigger situation than I anticipated I'd like to transition this conversation over to this personal login I've just created.  I'll send you the friend request from this profile in a moment.
Thanks for the help so far on this, although I've got to disagree with you on the firmware issue.  Firmware is generally installed onto an EEPROM on the hardware device and has nothing to do with the hard drive and would therefore persist through OS changes, hard drive replacements, formatting, etc.  Anyway, don't want to belabor the point.  Let me know what you're able to make happen on your end.
To clarify the problems I'm having as there seem to be several different symptoms floating around, here's a list of the issues I'm having:
    - 2 finger scrolling is difficult, it generally doesn't register and instead just moves the cursor up and down.
    - Finger tapping can be overly sensitive and cause unwanted clicks.  The only sensitivity setting in the Dell touchpad utility effects overall sensitivity, not just tapping.  So if I decrease sensitivity it makes it almost impossible to even move the cursor around.
    Thanks,
    Todd

  • New User to the IPhone Family got some questions

    Hey guys,
Well the IPhone4 is my first smart phone and I will have to say I love the thing. Except I'm experiencing some weird issues. First is the proximity sensor now I have done a lot of research and people are saying that there could be a fix for that when a update comes out. Is that correct to assume that?
Also, im having a weird reception issue. I heard about the death grip problems so I got a case to solve the issues. But with the case off sitting on a desk I get 5 bars when I pick it up in my hand to make a call I now will have 3 bars. When I put the case on and leave it on the desk I get 4 bars and when I pick it up in my hand to make a call now i get 2 bars. I have yet to drop a call and hold it like i normally would im not doing the death grip and trying to make it drop as much signal as possible. Should there be this much of a difference with and without a case? I also want to keep the case on since im always afraid of dropping the thing.
Also, as a side note on the reception issue is there a way to make it show the dBm instead of the bars so i can actually see how much signal im loosing?
    Thanks guys,
    Marc

Its not unusable i only hit speaker phone or mute occasionally. It almost seems to be an intermittent problem with the sensor.
I've had the sensor problem one time.
In looking back I realized three things, first the sensor is above the ear 'speaker'; two the sensor is slightly less sensitive than the one on my iPhone 3GS; and three I sometimes have a tendency to move the voice mic closer to my mouth--this rotates the sensor away from my head. With it's decreased sensitivity and its location being farther up the phone this action will cause the sensor to 'trip' and the phone to 'think' I've moved it away from my head and turn the display back on. As long as I keep the earpiece next to my ear I never have a problem.
I have two iPhone 4 units and they both behave this way and I can see where people who tend to move the phone around a lot while speaking could have real difficulties. The sensor 'sensitivity' really needs to be increased. Lets hope a software change can modify the sensitivity.

  • My iphon 4S and iPad 2 screen have become less responsive since I've updated to IOS8

    Hi,
Since updating my os to IOS8 I have found that the touch screen on both my iPhone 4S and my iPad2 have become less responsive to gestures. They have also become laggy when performing commands.
They are two distinct issues though. I have noticed the decreased sensitivity most when logging in with my pin code. I hardly ever had to enter my pincode more than once because i missed a digit but now im doing it all the time. Also when using the YouTube app the time slider is so unresponsive... and the slider when watching a fullscreen vid within safari is the same.
I expected the laggyness after upgrading as they are older models but I don't understand why the sensitivity would reduce.
    Anyone else?

    Try resetting the wireless router.

  • Magic Trackpad Sensitivity

Is there a way (3rd party software perhaps) to adjust the sensitivity of the Magic Trackpad?
I use the one-touch option in preferences (Tap to click - one touch finger) because this works best for me, however I find it too sensitive - I'm accidentally tapping things I don't want which is really frustrating.

    Hmm,
I have been using Mac's since they had the cute little handles in the top. I have no idea how many mice, track balls, pads..... I have used but it would be a large number.
If this is "simply an adjustment to the device issue", IMHO the thing is tooooo... sensitive. I have worked with mine for months and still have the same problems no matter what I do. There are times when no matter how much you call something a feature it fails to benefit the vast majority.
The other possibility is some sort of hardware/software malfunction in some of the track pads, hardware/software combinations...
There it went, for some reason, I could not type in all of pads ^ above, then it was like it was selecting some of the letters and not letting me type anything else. Tapping the track pad seemed to clear the problem. I don't think I even touched the pad before I saw the problem, I was just typing, until I saw the missing letters... It's kind of like the pad selects things for reasons only it understands...Or maybe it is a software bug, of some random nature, that got introduced with the track pad...Sometimes I just seem to be stuck, until I tap the track pad.
The fact that I am having exactly the same "other" issues the poster above mentions which I did not: added to the fact that person has apparently used multiple different Apple track pads without this problem, leads me to believe that "where there is smoke there is fire".
Maybe I will take it to the Apple Store and have it checked out.

  • Trackpad sensitivity since upgrade

Ever since up upgraded to lion, my trackpad is ultra sensitive. I'll have my thumb hovering over the pad while scrolling around or circling on a page, and it will think i've tapped it. I've checked all my settings and can't find anywhere that changes this. Anyone else have these issues? It's a bit irritating to be reading something and all of a sudden have another window open, or a link activated.

Power down the computer and clean the trackpad with a damp not wet microfiber cloth.
    Trackpad is very sensitive often.

  • Use Trackpad to zoom in and out - Too sensitive in Safari 4

Hi, I just installed Safari 4 three days ago. Without changing any settings, now I found out that when I use trackpad to zoom in/out the font, it responses too sensitive than it did in previous Safari. It jumps up/down at least two levels every time I try to adjust the font size. It is not that controllable anymore.
Has anyone else noticed this? How do I fix this? Thanks!

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro. The zoom feature is way too sensitive for my liking, however, there is no way at the moment to control it. As this is a Beta version, these oddities will occur. Hopefully, when Safari 4 is released in final version (no date yet announced) this problem will be fixed.
As I previously did, let Apple know what you are experiencing with the trackpad via the Safari Menu>Report Bugs to Apple. If you want to go back to Safari 3, use the Uninstaller that's included in the Safari 4 Downloads package. This is the only safe way to go back to Safari 3.

    Hello alicelan,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with device errors. You may want to consider restoring your device to factory settings to resolve the issues you've described:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
Restoring iOS software deletes all your data and content from your device, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar info.
    Before you restore your device
Make sure you’re using the latest version of iTunes.
Use iTunes to back up your device. Transfer and sync any additional content to your computer.
Turn off Find My iPhone in Settings > iCloud on your device to disable Activation Lock.
    Restore your iOS device
Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary panel, click Restore.
Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart. Once it does, you’ll see the "Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new or using a previous backup. If your iOS device has cellular service, it will activate after you restore.

  • Is there a way to reduce the sensitivity of the one finger click on the trackpad?

Is there a way ro reduce the sensitivity of the one-finger click on the tackpad?

    nope.
it *****. i had to turn off "tap to click" if that ishat you are referring to. i couldn't write an email or any other document without the cursor inserting to wherever it felt like.
another solution for me would have been to place my trackpad above my keyboard, as it was the slightest of brushes against the trackpad that was causing this annoyance.

  • Trackpad click not as sensitive after service

Hi there, just had the logic board replaced in my mid-2010 MBP, and I find now that the trackpad click is not as sensitive, it works about 90% of the time, but the 10% is quite frustrating. Even with the audible click, sometimes it doesn't register, and I need to hold it with more pressure. Is this something that they could have modified accidentally during re-construction of the mac body after logic board replacement?

There are times when I can play with my 3gs for long periods of time without a problem.  Other times, it only takes a few seconds for the screen to stop responding.  Pressing the sleep (?) button on the top right a couple of times (on, off) brings it back on...  but only for a few seconds.  I'm wondering if iCloud has anything to do with this....  and/or the network connection.  I was thinking perhaps it fails when I'm no edge and not WiFi.
