Decreasing size of pdf file?
I have several hand-written letters that were sent to me in pdf files that I need to decrease in size in order to put in a photo book, 2-3 to a page.
Can anyone help me??? Thanks!
Kim in Durango
Ok.
This is actually the Acrobat forum.
That being said, you may be able to get what you want by playing with settings in the print dialog.
Go to File>Print>Page handling>Page scaling and choose "Multiple pages per sheet" or something to that effect in the dropdown (sorry, I'm using a newer version than 8 so it may be slightly different in your version) and choose how many you want to print on your page. It will scale them up/down for you.

How can i change the size of PDF files ?
how can i change the size of PDF files? when i convert documents in the acrobat browser it seems the files become larger then normal pdf files, this is, i compare with other files that people send to me and i realise that they are smaller than my converted files, even if they have more pages.
A lot depends on the form of the PDF. Is it graphics, a scan of a text file, pure text, or other? What version of Acrobat are you working with.
You can do a save as to get a WORD file, but do not expect great results. The ability to get a decent WORD file depends on what the form of PDF you are working from. If it was created from WORD with tags and all, you might get good results. If not, you might get a lot of messed up results.
Explain what you are starting with and your ultimate goal. Also check the audit of the file (should be under PDF Optimize) to see where the file information is concentrated (text, fonts, graphics, other). -
Is there a way to re-size a PDF file so we can e-mail it?
I need to e-mail a PDF file, but it is too large, is there a way to re-size it??
E-mail is not ideal to transfer large data files; oftentimes attachments get damaged, and post e-mail providers have size limits.
If you upload the document to a 3rd-party site like Dropbox (or https://sendnow.acrobat.com/), you can send the document link via e-mail, for the recipient to download. -
Maximum size of PDF file?
I'm assembling a book comprised mostly of photos - it will contain approximately one hundred 10MB photos (1 GB). I want to then convert the (Open Office / .odt) document to PDF. Is there any problem with generating a file this large?
If curious about the project, see http://iceagetrail.posterous.comYou should try to keep file sizes under 2GB for backwards compatibility.

How do I size a .pdf file
How do I resize a .pdf file
You cannot resize a file using Adobe Reader. You may be able to do it with Adobe Acrobat but that really depends on exactly what you mean by "resize".

PDF file size in relation to number of pages of the exact same document
PDF file size of a document for one page is 28kb. PDF file size of a the same document for two pages (1st page and 2nd page are exact same document), also 28kb. Shouldn't it be 56kb??
First of all, you can't use Adobe Reader to add, delete or duplicate pages in a PDF file (unless you use a template object), so you're either using Adobe Acrobat, or some other application entirely.
The size of PDF files is not linear, ie if you have 1-page file and it's 1 MB, then duplicating it will results in a 2-page file of 2 MB, or a 10-page file of 10 MB. Many items in a PDF document only need to be saved once (such as font information, image information in some cases, etc.), so the change in size when adding additional pages is sometimes very small. At other times it can be very big, though. You can have a 100-page file that is 1 MB and then add a single page to it, with a new font perhaps, and the size will jump to 5 MB, just because that font is very large... -
Large PDF file sizes when exporting from InDesign
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew why some PDF file sizes are so large when exporting from ID.
I create black and white user manuals with ID CS3. We post these online, so I try to get the file size down as much as possible.
There is only one .psd image in each manual. The content does not have any photographs, just Illustrator .eps diagrams and line drawings. I am trying to figure out why some PDF file sizes are so large.
Also, why the file sizes are so different.
For example, I have one ID document that is 3MB.
Exporting it at the smallest file size, the PDF file comes out at 2MB.
Then I have another ID document that is 10MB.
Exporting to PDF is 2MB (the same size as the smaller ID document)... this one has many more .eps's in it and a lot more pages.
Then I have another one that the ID size is 8MB and the PDF is 6MBwhy is this one so much larger than the 10MB ID document?
Any ideas on why this is happening and/or how I can reduce the file size.
I've tried adjusting the export compression and other settings but that didn't work.
I also tried to reduce them after the fact in Acrobat to see what would happen, but it doesn't reduce it all that much.
Thanks for any help,
Cathy> Though, the sizes of the .eps's are only about 100K to 200K in size and they are linked, not embedded.
But they're embedded in the PDF.
> It's just strange though because our marketing department as an 80 page full color catalog that, when exported it is only 5MB. Their ID document uses many very large .tif files. So, I am leaning toward it being an .eps/.ai issue??
Issue implies there's something wrong, but I think this is just the way
it's supposed to work.
Line drawings, while usually fairly compact, cannot be lossy compressed.
The marketing department, though, may compress their very large TIFF
files as much as they like (with a corresponding loss of quality). It's
entirely possible to compress bitmaps to a smaller size than the
drawings those bitmaps were made from. You could test this yourself.
Just open a few of your EPS drawings in Photoshop, save as TIFF, place
in ID, and try various downsampling schemes. If you downsample enough,
you'll get the size of the PDF below a PDF that uses the same graphics
as line drawing EPS files. But you may have to downsample them beyond
recognition...

Is there a way to make the size of pdf files to be a smaller file size. The file sizes that you get from the print menu are too big. I know about altering the image size with the Automator script in PDF services, but this doesn't get them small enough. Is there another way without having to get a third party app like Acrobat, PDF Compress, or PDF Shrink? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
BarryIt does work, but not all that well.
Sample file size (photo, lo rez) in Photoshop Elements 3: 124K
OSX created pdf: 484 K
OSX with "reduce file size": 156K
OS9 file from Acrobat: 40K
Anybody know how to cut more fat out of these files, or am I going to have to go back to OS9 every time I want a reasonable file size? -
How to reduce file size of pdf documents from 12 mb to 4 mb
i am trying to reduce file size at adobe reader original document size is 12 mb i need to get it down to 4 mb , please help how
You might be asking for the impossible or the easy. Acrobat Pro can reduce the size of PDF files, but nobody can promise any particular PDF can shrink.

Opening a PDF file from a share that contains a reparse point in protected mode fails
With adobe reader 10 or above and with protected mode turned on, we are unable to read a PDF file from a shared location if it contains a reparse point. I understand that turning off protected mode will resolve the issue, but that does not help us.
Using filemon, we can see that adobe is opening the file and ignoring the reparse point, so we know that's why it's failing. Is there any way (aside from turning off protected mode) to get this to work?Hi,

Please can someone help? I have a new Macbook Pro, I used to be able to reduce size of pdfs on my last Mac, but how do I do it on my new one?
ThanksAFAIK, you have to use a third-party application, such as Adobe Acrobat, to reduce the sizes of PDF files.
I don't know that Preview can save a reduced file size - Acrobat can. If you want to give it a try, you can download one of the Adobe CS6 packages that include AcroPro.

Uploading PDF-file from unix to SAP internal table
Hi,
i have to write an abap that sends a pdf-file from a unix (SAP server) by mail to some people.
The mailing part is done, but for creating the attachment. I'm reading the pdf-file into an internal table (in a binary way). Then i'm using this int.table to send the mail.
The email is sent with an attachment, but i cannot open the pdf-file because of an error ( file damaged ). So before sending it by mail, i'm downloading the pdf file to my pc by using WS_DOWNLOAD with the same internal table. The download file gives the same error.
If i look at the size :
- originally pdf file 71743 bytes
- resulting pdf file 71665 bytes (281 lines x 255)
The creation of the internal table is as follows :
open dataset g_file for input in binary mode.
check sy-subrc eq 0.
do.
* read dataset g_file MAXIMUM LENGTH 255 into wa_pdf.
read dataset g_file into wa_pdf.
if sy-subrc ne 0. exit. endif.
append wa_pdf_hex to i_pdf.
enddo.
close dataset g_file.
where:
types: tt_pdf type table of soli, "raw 255 long
data: i_pdf type tt_pdf,
wa_pdf like line of i_pdf
Is there a better way to read in the pdf-file ? Any suggestions ?

Hans

How do I decrease .PDF file size?
I'm creating .pdf files from work I'm doing in Indesign CS5 and the file size is HUGE. I need to send the client (email) the pdf files in a smaller file size for approvals.
Any suggestions? When exporting use the smallest size settings or reduce file size in Acrobat using optimizer.
