Dedicated video editing keyboard for FCS 3?

I have been searching for a current recommendation for a dedicated editing keyboard for FInal Cut Studio 3. I'm well aware of Bella, Keylogic, KB covers. I've searched this forum without finding an answer for the last 2 hours. Frankly, I thought this question had probably been asked so many times that I'd get a hit in much less time.
I've read a few reviews on Bella Pro kybdthat were not that favorable, most citing poor quality build. I do intend to utilize a Shuttle Pro V2 also, so paying for the cheap feeling scroll wheel on the Bella pro seems a waste ot money.
I have just sent an email to "Editors Keys" a UK company that offers their own brand board without a scroll wheel, but with the color keys with both an icon & brief function label. They claim Studios all over the world (BBC, Sony, Fox, Warner Bros, etc)  bought 30,000 units and provide a liftime warranty. Any one ever hear anything about them?
Any advice & guidance would be eagerly awaited & appreciated.
Ken

Studio X,
Thanks for the reply!
I do use  a thin Apple Kybd and am not in love with it, but I use it. I feel it is a "poor tool" as explained below.
Why I'm not interested in the covers? I don't wear condoms either. It's just not the same tactile input.
Actually, It's not unlike what craftsmen  call "hand feel" when it comes to hand tools. The good ones feel like they were made for YOUR hand, the poor ones feel uncomfortable  in the hand of most people. Can I hammer a nail with a poor hammer? Yes, but sometimes I'll miss the nail and I'll be worn out earlier. With a hammer that feels right not only can you work all day with it, you miss far fewer nails too.

I have Final Cut Studio V1 - the PPC/Intel V5/5.1 cross-grade version, which would suit your requirements perfectly. (I have it for sale at present down here).
If you keep looking, you're sure to find a similar second hand copy in your area, without the need to upgrade your graphics card.
I'd go for Final Cut Pro as above over any version of Express. FCP has the full version of LiveType - not the truncated version that was released later on.

  • Any futures plans to include a real video editing software for hp sprout, like Adobe premiere pro?

    Very simple question.
Is there any plans to include a real video editing software for HP Sprout?
Video editing software like Adobe premire Pro?
It will be amazing if you (HP people) can develop and integrate a video editing software like Adobe premiere Pro into the HP Sprout.
    Thank you in advance!

HP is pretty reticent to revealing "Future Plans".  It would be a real shot in the arm though if this happens!
How about it @Ty1 ?  Can you shed any light on the subject?

  • What is best basic video editing app for Mac

I'm looking for a video editing application for the mac. I only require something basic, as in being able to crop out unwanted footage and join multiple movie files then export to MP4 format.
I don't need to add audio, titiles or make colour adjustments etc.
Tried iMovie but not a fan.

It sounds like the real need here is for an online collaboration solution, not necessarily building a website from scratch. It would be best to find a service that already does what you want, have a multi-user discussion board that supports multiple groups. Blackboard Learn looks like it integrates grading, evaluations, tests, multimedia, etc., so if the actual scope of your project is like that, maybe Blackboard Learn is the way to go. But is it too much?
If you are merely looking for a space where groups of students can merely discuss privately and not much else, you could conceivably go with something like Facebook Groups, Google+ Communities, etc. These are already coded and tested across multiple platforms and reinforced for security.
You could simply "get a website program" like iWeb or RapidWeaver, but the serious disadvantage of these programs is that you have to build it from nothing. You code the logins, you code the discussion group architecture, you make it work with laptops, tablets, and phones, you code it against hackers and mischievous students. Unless you can handle that (and maybe you did back with iWeb), it might be better to go with a ready-made "groupware" solution that is already tested and robust.

  • Video Editing Software for Power PC G5 OSX 10.5.8

    Hello,
I hope I am in the correct computer category. I have a PowerPC G5 OSX 10.5.8. I have a lot of video editing that I would like to do, but don't have a program. I can't afford to buy a new computer, but would like to know if anyone has suggestions on what versions of Final Cut, or any other editing program would work on my computer.
    Thanks.

Budgetary restraints would push me to suggesting looking on eBay etc for Final Cut Express 3.5. It's the previous version of this software, and some say better than the current version.
If you do need more than FCE, you could also look for Final Cut Pro 5.0/5.1, which would likely do anything you'd need, for much less than the shelf price of the latest Final Cut Studio at an Apple dealer.

  • Want to build a video editing machine for Premiere Pro CC

I will only be using this machine for Premiere pro CC.I would like you guys to have a look at the specs I have chosen, give your suggestions:
i5 4th gen 4670K 3.4 Ghz LGA 1150 (Keeping in mind the benchmark tests found on this site for CC)
    Ram Corsair 16 GB Corsair DDR3 @ 1333Mhz. Either 4GB  x 4 or 4GB x 2 + 8GB X 1.I already have 8 GB of ram so I am stuck with 1333Mhz.Will this really matter? is 1600mhz better for video editing ?
Motherboard has to be in MSI as I had bad experiences with Asus and Intel original.I am confused about the chipset though..Has to be Z series right??
    HDD - 2TB x 1 @ 7200rpm Seagate
1TB x 1 @ 7200rpm Seagate     I already have the HDDs from the last machine.
Graphics Card - Within 12k INR.No choice in particular though I had good experience with Sapphire AMD  6670 AND R7 250. I hear AMD is no good for video editing?is it true?
    Prefrences- Saphire for AMD
                        Zotac for Nvidia
Please recomend me a PSU.What shoud be the wattage? Also, need some guidance for buying a UPS.Have this one as of now:

psst- Do I need a cooling option if I am not running this machine in an air conditioned room?
As for the OS is Microsoft Windows 8 / 8.1 SL OEM 64 bit ok ?
I am also looking to buy a Full HD monitor under 12K INR.
Thanks a lot in advance !!

The new Haswell E CPU is out now. THAT is what you want for a new editing machine. ESPECIALLY for heading into the future, which will involve 4K and other, maybe more DEMANDING codecs. SEE Eric Bowen's posting here on this forum regarding the test results for video editing using the Haswell E...vs. the older CPUs.
The Haswell E now has a new chipset,( X99), that brings MANY new features, AND, the Haswell E NOW features "quad  channel" memory...to handle large amounts of data FASTER. The new motherboards have TEN SATA III ports, for a variety of HIGH SPEED storage options !! The OLDER motherboards are LIMITED to TWO SATA III ports.....PREVENTING creating FAST onboard RAID setups. The Haswell E is available with EIGHT,or, SIX cores...you choose !! Use at least 32 GB of system memory. Soon, Eric will post the results of the new Nvidia 970 and 980 video cards. in his video editing test. The 980 is ALREADY the top card in GAMING...BEATING the 780ti, DESPITE having LESS data throughput. The 980 MAY be the card you want....it is MUCH cheaper than the 780ti......down in the $500 plus range.
Use the new Samsung 850 Pro SSDs in your  new system...or, the cheaper Crucial M550 series SSDs. The SSDs are now WAY more reliable than HDDs and are WAY FASTER, in many ways.

  • Any suggestions on a good video editing software for MacBook Pro

I have just joined the MacBook Pro community would like an idea for good video software options

Also, compare the hardware specification (not just minimums) needed to actually
use the video editing software; plus consider external storage options of huge
capacity since most portable computers don't really have all that much storage.
A few years ago some suggested Avid Media Composer as professional software
but then in the same discussion, said the MacBook Pro may not be able to handle
the demands of the application; and went on to suggest an Apple Mac Pro tower.
Some software needs require further study prior to committing resources & funds
to discover perhaps the product may/may not be adequate. Avid likely is still costly.
Hopefully you can get a great editor with a few creative options, for a decent price.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Best Video Editing Tool For MBP

Hey Fellas recently i switched from a windows pc to MBP. I have a small business of making motion movies for various clients of mine. • Windows Video Editing Software for Vado HD

I just got the Vado HD and I am having trouble getting it to work in any video editing programs I try.

  • IPad video editing app for HD video and Flip HD video

    Hello,
Has anyone found an editing app for HD video and Flip video? I've downloaded ReelDirector only to find out they don't recognize Flip Video format and they don't really do HD, only output to HD...which is silly.
I want to be able to edit my little Flip videos and post to FaceBook and my blogs....
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Sara

The iMovie app is for the iPod touch and iPhone. As for editing flip videos on the iPad. Now that i can use the CCK to import flip videos into the ipad. Would be nice if there was an app for editing these videos on the iPad.
Fair warning about the free Flip app in the app store. If you use it to upload videos to YouTube, it only uploads a low quality video, SD. Best bet is to use the photo app which uploads a higher quality video, night and day comparison in quality between the two apps.

  • Dedicated video card important for photo editing?

I am in the market for a new mbp, for photo editting (Lightroom, and photoshop occationally), debating between the 13" with an external monitor or 15".  I am sure the cpu power of the 13" should be enough.  What about the video card.  Is the integrated video card on the 13"s good enough?  I don;t play video games.
    Thanks!

I would actually be more concerned with the CPU power on the 13''. Though it will run CS6, the dual core processor will limit performance more than the integrated graphics. The integrated Iris on the 13'' is good enough, but processing speed may be an issue if you are doing heavy editing/ running concurrent processes. You may want to go with the baseline 15'' without the discrete GPU, with even better integrated graphics (Crystalwell), and, most importantly, with the quad core i7 configuration.
Comparison of the multicore 64bit benchmark test scores from Geeksquad show that CPU performance between the mid 2013 Air and Late 2013 13'' MB Pro are almost identical:
    Macbook Pro Retina (13'' Late 2013): 6206
    Macbook Air (13'' Mid 2013): 6140
    Compare with....
    Macbook Pro Retina (15'' Late 2013): 13429

  • New video editing system for AE, GPU questions

    Hi all,
I am about to configure a new system to use mainly for After Effects CS6, and Premiere CS6. I'm experiencing some difficulties choosing the right GPU.. If any of you could take the time to answer these question for me..it would be greatly appreciated!
    - I read the GTX 7xx with Kepler structure aren't supported/CUDA cores aren't used, is this true of do they work fine?
    - Does a good video card (with 1000+ CUDA cores) only help for speeding Ray-traced 3D, or will the overall editing experience be faster as well? ('live preview' while editing 'normal video', as well as the final render?)
    - What are the critical factors to look for in a video card for editing? (GDDR RAM, Base Clock, Memory Speed, Memory Interface Width, Memory Bandwith CUDA cores) I mainly work with 1080P digital SLR video and video effects, not a huge amount of 3d texts etc.
    - If i would choose the GPU as render engine, will the work be done purely by the GPU, of will it just 'assist' the CPU?
    - So far, i think the GTX 760 would be a good option, what is your opinion about this card for AE editing? Would this be a good choice or will a GTX 6xx or GTX 580 be a much better option? My budget for the whole system (without monitor etc.) is max. 1000 euro.
    - Would buying an SSD for storing the program files and the project files, be helpful? Or won't this increase the speed in editing by too much?
The system I have on my mind so far, recommendations and changes are very welcome..

The GPU acceleration for Premiere is completely different than the Ray tracer acceleration in AE. The GPU specifications along with the system ram and CPU cores/clock absolutely effect the performance of the playback in Premiere. Which means selecting the correct GPU is based on Premiere's MPE acceleration and the workflow/media used. The concept that comes into play here is processing latency. A older card with 1GB of vram and a single or dual core CPU may be able to playback a single 1080 stream by itself without any scaling. However as soon as any effects or frame alterations are added then the time it takes for the data to process at the cpu, buffer into ram, and then process through the GPU is to long to maintain the playback. The clock speed of CPU, Ram, and GPU/Vram all come into play as to how long it takes for this entire pipeline to process. The amount of threads and cores decide how much data can process at any point in time. The more layers and effects to process along with frame changes, the more data that has to be processed in any time segment required for playback. This is similar to how much water needs to go through a pipe. This can be increased by either increasing the size of the pipe or the Water pressure in the pipe by how fast the water is fed into the pipe. Both aspects have their limitations based on where the water is coming from and going to and what the conditions required are. A balance is normally required between both the size of the pipe and the amount of water/pressure sent into the pipe. However the greater the volume of water required at any time segment the greater both aspects must be increased. IE this translates over into clock speed equals water pressure and threads equal size. SSD's also have a significant aspect on processing latency. The latency of SSD drives is a fraction of mechanical drives. This means the amount of time it takes for SSD drives to handle all of the read or write requests made by the application is significantly lower. This translates into lowering the amount of time drive requests effect the overall performance of the realtime playback along with how fast files are written. Since codecs have different data rate requirements often times SSD drives are cheaper options to handle data rates that normally require significant raid setups that are expensive. SSD drives also handle far more requests simultaneously which translates to putting more operations on a single disc. This often translates into better performance with more complex timelines or compositions.
The comments regarding GPU specifications not really having any impact are relating to AE only. This is absolutely not the case for Premiere, AME, and Speedgrade or almost any other GPU acceleration application.

  • What is the best video editing software for Mac?

I am trying to edit videos, specifically .wmv and .mpg files to put in PowerPoint presentations. What is the best software for cropping movies as well as cutting different scenes out of video (i.e. making a 2 minute video into a 30 second video). Thanks so much for the help.

iMovie will not edit WVM nor MPEG-1. You would need to convert the movies to one of the formats iMovie can accept before you could edit them. If you will need the movies to remain or end up in WMV or MPEG-1, I'd suggest looking to a different editor. StreamClip might work for just doing basic editing:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
To edit WMV you'll need the paid Flip4Mac plugin from Telestream:

  • What is some good video editing software for the Imac?

We just got a Imac for my church but Imovie is not cutting it, I need software that can capture video through a firewire. Can then edit it with adding effects such as fading in and out. Then it needs to be able to/have included software that I can use to put the video onto a dvd. I want to know of the best stuff out there. Thanks!

I need software that can capture video through a firewire.
Here is how I do it (I have tried almost everything).
For maximum quality here is my procedure:  ADVC300 > iMovie 06 > iDVD 11
    http://www.videoguys.com/Item/Grass+Valley+ADVC300/035303230363.aspx
I would use iMovie 06 with iDVD 09/11, why?
iMovie 09/11 uses 'single field processing' meaning every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses ALL of the image to form the video.

    Hi there,
Have been doing a ton of reading on different forums and everyone has come to similar conclusions that this is about as hard as it gets, but seeing as I will be moving around a lot in the next year and my organization has agreed to pay $2500ish for one here we are...
I was hoping to get your thoughts on the configuartion below. I am not a fan of Lenovo but this what a shop I was working with reccomended. You'll notice they make a couple of modifacation from what Lenovo gives them. My other big question is about these quattro video cards. I heard they work with the mecury playback engine for amazing results, but that other graphic cards can be unlocked and work just as well. I feel that if I opened it up to other graphics cards I would have more chocies from other companies.

In reply to the question about the Quadro GPU in comparrison to other nVidia cards. A useful table available on the nVidia website shows the specs of Quadro Mobile cards. If you compare the K2000M specs with the specs of the GTX660M, which is a mid to high end Kepler GTX card you will notice they are very similar except the 660M uses faster DDR5 memory and has a considerably better memory transer rate (28.8GB/s as compared to 64GB/s) perhaps only thanks to the faster memory since the momory interface is 128-bit in both cases. Oh also the Quadro cards will give 10-bit output compared to the GTX's 8-bit, which is only useful if you were going to plug a 10-bit external display into the machine.
Personally, if Lenovo had a higher end Kepler Quadro or a Kepler GTX card available I would have been more inclined towards them as a candidate for my own imminent purchase.
Inspite of saying that, you will find the two top laptops on the PPBM5 table are infact Quadro cards (not even Keplar) and they are in a Lenovo laptop. I suspect that the 'hobbling' or de-tuning that nVidia does to the mobile cards (compare the GTX660M to the GTX660) so they will run more comfortably in a laptop is much less for Quadro compared to the GTX cards.
I am not an expert and only reply in a sincere attempt to guide you to information available from nVidia and add my perspective. Others may like to comment...
    Goodluck
    Peter.
