Dedup performance getting worse and worse

Hi Everyone
I am running Windows 2012 Server and using it for storing VEEAM backups of our VMware environment, and well as a lot of SQL database backups
Deduplication has been running well for the past couple of months (about 35Tb saved), but the performance seems to be getting worse and worse and it is now struggling to keep up with the rate at which new data is added
Checking task and resource manager it doesn't appear that the fdsmhost.exe is really doing much work at all. I see long periods of complete inactivity with no disk access which is not really what I would expect. The files deduped and dedup savings are not
changing either
Does anyone have any good information about factors affecting dedup performance. I've tried manually starting the dedup job with the priority and memory usage parameters to force it to high priority and give it a decent amount of memory but still no joy
We have recently added some more VMs to our setup so some of the backup files are very large (around 1.6Tb). is it likely to just be struggling with these large files?
Any clues or best practices?
Thanks
Harley

2) There is no integration between VEEAM and MS as such. VEEAM just writes the backup files to a share and then Windows goes and deduplicates these at a later date. This was working fine for a couple of months but now seems to basically be doing nothing.
This is causing me to run out of space fast as a weekly full backup is around 1.6Tb and the nightly incrementals are about 200Gb each. When this was working they would all get deduplicated back close to nothing freeing up nearly all of the space. Obviously
this makes a massive difference. VEEAM itself is still working, but no deduplication seems to be happening
3) I probably wasn't very clear, but it is only SQL backups being stored on here and not any actual live databases. As the nightly backups don't change very much and are never accessed except in a restore they should be perfect candidates for deduplication
and do actually give very good deduplication rates.
I do notice that one of the items on your list is files approaching or greater than 1Tb
so maybe that is the problem as the weekly backup is one 1.6Tb file
Maybe i'll try to split the backups up slightly and see if that makes any difference. Thinking about it  ..... before we adding the recent batch of servers to VMware the backup was around the 1Tb mark and it seems to have died around the jump to 1.6Tb

  • Performance gets worse with more adjustments

LR 3.5, Win7, 64-bit (both OS & LR - and yes, I made sure it is the 64-bit LR running), 8GB ram
When I start doing adjustments to a photo it's really fast, no problems. But the more adjustments I add (mainly adjustment brush), the slower LR gets, the worse performance gets.  It gets so bad that making a change to a slider can take 6+ seconds to see the change!
I'm making slider adjustments, using the adjustment brush a lot, and graduated filter adjustments.  I have auto mask turned off, my raw cache is 10GB, the raw file is 16.7MB.
If I switch to a different photo everything is speedy again.  Switching back and everything is slow.  Closing & reopening LR has no affect, neither does rebooting.  I haven't tried creating a new catalog and putting that one photo there but I doubt that would help.  I do not have Photoshop or any other memory/cpu intensive programs running.  I actually did try to quit everything and that didn't help.
I asked this on the NAPP forums and someone suggested:
    - Is it a Raw file or Tiff or Jpeg?
    Raw.
    - Cache may be corrupt, try to purge the cache.
That did make a difference, but it's still quite slow.
    - Delete your history?
I haven't tried this yet mainly because the I'm still making adjustments to the photo in question and I love being able to go back a bunch rather than having to start over again.  I plan on doing a bunch of similar adjustments to another photo then deleting the history and seeing if that helps.  Still, that's not something I want to be doing WHILE I'm still editing the photo.
    - Open the task manager and watch the cpu/memory.
Did this and noticed when I made ANY change on a photo with lots of adjustments, both cpu and memory went up - cpu hit 85-95% doing anything and memory climbed from the 1.8GB it had when it started to 2.8GB.  If I go to a new photo cpu stays around 40-50% and memory stays lower, around 2.2-2.4GB.  And again, the more adjustments I added, the highter the cpu and memory went.
And it isn't just this photo.  I've worked with many photos - both mine and from others - and as I add more and more adjustments (brush, sliders, etc), LR starts slowing down more and more.  I also have LR installed on my work computer and my personal computer, both share the same performance issues.  It's just when I get a LOT of adjustments made that this happens - mostly adjustment brushes.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks very much!!

    Pic4,
I would think that it's the same problem on Mac. As Lee Jay has explained "Simplistically, it has to redraw all the local adjustments every time you update a slider" these adjustments create o lot of traffic between your hard drive(s) and the memory. So - simplistic - if all the traffic has to go back and forth to the same hard drive, there's congestion. So better, divide the various LR "elements" between different physical hard drives.
Put your catalog on the external eSata - assuming that LR resides on your internal drive - and make your cache very large.
I'd like to put in a word about hard drives: Instead of choosing one (1) huge internal drive it would be better to have at least two, or better three internal drives that can be much smaller. I'd say three drives @ 250 GB give you much better performance than one drive with 1 TB.
With three drives, you'd put LR on drive 1 (C-drive), the LR catalog on drive 2, and the LR cache on drive 3. That way the system does not have to wait for one drive to finish writing before it can be read again (in simplistic terms) but the writing and reading happens simultaneously on three drives. That's the performance gain when you put the catalog, the cache and LR on different drives. It has to be different physical drives, partitions of one drive won't do it.
I would think that it's the same on a PC or on a Mac.

  • ORACLE performance get worse after 24 hours of inactivity

Yesterday I imported a ORACLE DB, and I executed a query which uses some indexes. The query had only a LEFT JOIN between two tables. 24 hours later I executed the same query and then ORACLE decided not using the indexes and now uses full table access. That is the reason because the performance is worse. Does anybody know what is happening?

Did you note when you posted this that the forum name is "Adevanced Queueing?"
Please repost your question in the appropriate forum and include full version information, DML, and an explain plan when it is working properly and another from when it is slow using DBMS_XPLAN to generate the output.
You can find demos of how to do this in Morgan's Library at www.psoug.org under EXPLAIN PLAN.
Without this information no one will be able to help you.
Again ... do not post it here ... post it in the correct forum.

  • Mighty Mouse tracking performance getting worse

Has anyone noticed that the tracking performance of the MM deteriorates over time ? I have tried to investigated what could be the cause and I am not sure if it's connected to other bluetooth devices in the vacinity or if it's connected in some way to what apps are loaded on the MAC, or is it both ? there seems to be considerable communication in this forum that suggests that the hardware is suspect ..... is this another problem...
    John

Have you tried putting in new batteries?
I wrote up a few things to try and then I came across some steps from apple:
    7) Check for a Bluetooth Update
To check for new software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu (make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet). If newer Apple Bluetooth software exists, Software Update will find it. To install an update, select the checkbox next to the software name and then click Install.
    8) Check for Signal Spoilers
Because Bluetooth works by transmitting signals through the air, some things can interfere with connections. Avoid situations in which metal objects come between your device and computer. Don't put your computer under a metal desk or locked away behind a metal cabinet. Keep cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other electrical devices that operate on a 2.4 GHz bandwidth away. And make sure that your device and computer aren't more than 30 feet apart from each other.
    9) Restart Your Computer
Sometimes a simple restart—or two—is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. Try restarting your computer to see if that clears up the issue. If not, try shutting down your computer, waiting a minute, and then starting it back up again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.
    10) Reset Your Bluetooth Device
First try turning your device off and then on again. If that doesn't work, see if you can reset your device—please refer to the documentation that came with your device for instructions.

  • Apple getting worse and worse?

I am a huge fan and occasional user of Apple since the 80s and buy exclusively Macs since 2006 and have become a power user.
I buy the newest machine every 1-2 years.
    I currently own an MBA 11, 2011, i5, 4GB, 256GB SSD. ( also Ipad, iphone)
Since Lion and now Mountain Lion- both of which I love from the User Interface standpoint my experience is getting worse and worse over the years, though:
    - I see the spinning beach-ball often
    - yesterday mail was so unresponsive I couldnt type an email
    - it seems that iCloud doesnt care what I am doing it claims the full internet bandwidth (I have 8Mbps) for itself whenever it feels like it
    - now iphoto (which gives me lots of beachballs) just crashed while I was editing a picture
    - lots and lots of times, the mac does not wake from sleep and instead I have to hold the on-button for 8s to restart the hard way
    - sometimes something is clogging up the CPU and then the fans kick in and they never come down although no processes are running that require lots of resourses, then I have to restart to get the fans to behave like normal again
-sometimes I cant quit iTunes, whenever I quit it restarts all by itself- again rebooting is the only solution
All in all my experience is slowly moving from: "it just works!" to "it is becoming a nuisance!"
I am working with my computer almost all day every day, so I really need it to work smooth in order not to waste my time.
But I am mostly using mail, Office 2011 and iphoto, skype and a few other things - nothing that resource intensive and of course all my system is running the most recent versions of everything and I verified and repaired disk permissions recently.
I am starting to look at Windows machines again if it goes on like this.
Anyone else like this? Any suggestions for help?

Please read this whole message carefully, especially the warnings, before doing anything.
    1. The changes to your configuration suggested here should be considered provisional; they may not solve your problem, or they may remove functionality that you find useful. If a third-party system modification that you want to keep is causing the problem, seek help from its developer.
    2. WARNING: Back up all data now if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state, even if it becomes unbootable. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP — DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of the procedure suggested below, restore from your backup. I will not be responsible for the consequences, and I will not be able to help, if you ignore this warning.
    3. You should either remove or update the following system modification(s), if an update is available from the developer:
    N/A
and definitely remove at least the following:
    † CleanMyMac
    † DivX
    † MacKeeper
    † SIMBL
    4. Whatever you remove must be removed completely, and (unless otherwise specified in this message) the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. In some cases it may be necessary to re-download or even reinstall the software in order to get rid of it. I can't be more specific, because I don't install such things myself. Please do your own research.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Again, please don't ask me to do this research for you. You can do it better than I can, because I haven't installed the product and I may not even know what it is.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.
    5. I recommend that you never reinstall the modifications marked with a dagger (†) above, if any. If your problem is resolved after uninstalling all the above modifications and rebooting, but you still want to use some of those not marked with a dagger, you can experiment with putting them back, one at a time, testing carefully after each step. Keep in mind that system modifications may be incompatible with each other or with future OS X updates, so it may not be clear which one is at fault.
    6. If you still have problems after making the suggested changes and rebooting, post again. Remember: if you don’t like the results of this procedure, you can undo it by restoring from the last backup you made before you started.
Remove the "MacKeeper" crapware as follows.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions, nor do I intend to repeat the test.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Applications from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. A dialog will pop up asking why you want to uninstall it. You don't have to provide that information. Enter anything you like in the text box, then click the Uninstall button. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. That's the only useful feature of "MacKeeper:" it deletes itself. Reboot.
Do not try to uninstall by dragging the MacKeeper icon in the Dock or the LaunchPad to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of material is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.
Uninstall SIMBL as follows. Back up all data before making any changes.
Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar, then enter the following text in the box that opens:
    /Library
A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL.bundle
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

  • Logic Pro 9 is unstable on my system and just keeps getting worse.  Any ideas?

Hello all, so, I've had a Mac Pro, Quad-Core 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon, 16 GB RAM, Mac Pro running Snow Leopard for about 3 years now. I use Logic Pro 9 (Academic Version) and it is really, really unstable. It seems to go through periods of getting worse, but lately it's been unbearable. I am a professional and I find it hard to believe that this software is allowed to have the word "Pro" in the name if it's this unstable for everyone. But, it seems that only some people have the issues I have. Off the top of my head, a few of the main issues are: CPU spiking like crazy (when the Activity Monitor says very little usage by Logic), I know some of the workarounds like making more auxes and splitting up the load, but this is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to work around a professional piece of software just to use it. Sometimes the CPU spikes with one instrument or one audio channel and nothing going on. It's really messed up.Then there's the memory errors when Logic is only using 1GB or RAM, IF THAT. I don't understand this at all, it also can happen in a fully loaded session or with barely anything going on. Then there are the random crashes that make no sense. There's also the part where it does not agree with many LEGIT-OWNED plugins, like Refx Nexus, XFER Nerve, most of the UAD plugins and many more. There's literally a TON more bugs, but these are the big and obvious ones that ruin my workflow. I have not been able to find a real fix for this, from deleting the preferences to reinstalling. I really don't understand it and Logic seems to work much better for other people I know. It also runs much smoother on my really crappy, old laptop. There's nothing wrong with the Mac Pro (other than it's probably self destructing like we all know Apple products do, but this has been a problem since the day I purchased it), it passes all tests and runs perfectly with any other software - from audio/video editing (Cubase, Ableton, Pro Tools, Final Cut, etc. all run like a dream) to video games. So, I really am fed up with this because I've been using Logic for so long that I really don't want to switch to a new DAW. That would slow down my workflow even more than Logic's crashes already do. Someone please help me, if you can.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:

That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!

  • Print head alignment keeps on getting worse and worse the more I try to "fix" it

First off, I know that this question doesn't really belong in the mbp section, but since I am printing from one, I thought this would be the closest match.
I have an Epson NX420 printer which came with my 2011 mbp 13in for free (err... $100 off the original $95ish to be exact). It will turn 3 years old in less than a month.
This past week, I have had troubles printing "good" images, so I did the print head alignment on Epson Printer Utility 4, following the written directions. I printed something out, and it was still disgustingly off, so I repeated the process two more times, each time printing something different. The vertical alignment is fine, but the horizontal alignment seems to get worse and worse. One thin line will be split into two in some places, and one will be dotted while the other solid, and in the case of color, the two bands are different colors. Solids come out grainy.
I don't want to waste any more paper and expensive ink for something that is not fixing itself. Since my mbp is still under Applecare warrenty, will Apple fix or trade my current printer for another one for free, or does Apple have nothing to do with printers other than its sale? If not, are there alternative ways to fix this problem? I am sure I am choosing the box without any bands at all and if there is I choose the lightest band-in-a-box and click realignment.
Here is the recent printout of random lines and text, after three unsuccesful trials of print head alignment.

This is a printer issue and it's only covered under the Epson Warranty Program, which is 1 year.  AppleCare has nothing to do with that.
You'll probably have to replace the printer if the print heads cannot be replaced.  That's the issue when you buy an inkjet that has print heads that aren't part of the ink cartriges... when they go bad, they go bad and you're hosed.  If the issue persists after a print cartridge change, then it's definitely the heads.

iPad 1 Safari Crashes Constantly and getting worse day by day.  Has Apple come up with a solution?  Now I am hearing its also happening on the newer models.  My company is about to buy a lot of tablets and I will not recommend Apple anything until they fix the problem.  Granted 30 or 40 iPads is not a huge impact but i promise once the outside world hears about this BS things will change.  There are plenty of other tablets out there that do not have this problem.  At the very least we should have the option of rolling back to a stable IOS...

I have already tried all the things mentioned above as well as other things such as other browsers etc.  Its is obviously a problem with the hardware.  I also borrowed a brand new 4th gen iPad and it does the same thing.  Even after upgrading it to 6.01.  An occasional crash is one thing and can easily be waved off but this is clearly systemic and the problem appears to be related to graphical images and videos.  Both iPads are the 64gb versions, the only difference other than model is the iPad 1 has ATT cellular.  The new version is clean i.e no other APPs loaded other than what came with it.  I have 7 more coming but im seriously considering sending them back in favor of an Android tablet or the MS Surface.

  • Help getting worse and worse

When CS5 went out, i spend a lot of time here trying to undertand what happened to the online help.
I even stopped adding comment and being part of the community help because metric driven design is,
as far as the help layout is concerned, a very very bad idea.
My hopes were limited for CS5.5 and I really wanted Adobe to correct this in CS6...
I wonder what happened with the online help part of Adobe apps in general, and AE specifically.
I wanted to check some stuff on it, and it’s a complete disaster (at least in french).
All the links in the "what’s new in cs6" are pointing to Todd’s blog home page, not even to the related post, and it even links to it when the topic is not disscussed at all on the blog. Hopefully, they all comes with another link to the home page of video brain, not even to the correct course or anything.
I’ll be more specific; For a tutorial I’m recording, I wanted to check some info on the new material properties, because I’m not a 3D guy and wanted to use the correct french words and be sure not to mess-up.
So I went to the online help home page, got in the what’s new in cs6 page, then scrolled down to new material option where it linked me to Todd’s blog and video brain. Both on the home page. Because I didn’t care about watching a video, and needed to read some stuff in french to get the correct words, I went to the Layer & properties part of the help.
What a joy, 6 of the 7 topics wheren’t updated since january 1st (meaning no info about new stuff in CS6) and the only part updated is about 3D layers, yay ! So let’s open that page.
I got 8 topics, none with info about the materials, old or new, only basics info about rotating, moving, 2d/3d layers, intersecting... and, on this "Product affected: Adobe After Effects CS6" page, info about Photoshop 3D layers, a feature removed from the product.
That’s when I used that handy "search box", because that’s what I was told when I complained about how lame was the CS5 docs navigation compared to the CS4 one: the paradigm shifted from topic related discovery to keyword search related discovery.
Let’s try to find out some info for the "Options Surface" category.
it takes me to the community help results: http://community.adobe.com/help/search.html?searchterm=optionsurface&q=optionsurface&lbl=aftereffects_product_adobelr&x=0&y=0&area=0&lr=en_US&hl=en_US
The first AE related link is 7th on the list despite a search in AE related docs... And on the 4 AE related links, nothing to do with what I need. Yes, I know, I searched the french name, but shouldn’t I get community results in french , or at least, official documention results in french ?
If I select the "only adobe content" radio button, it’s worse. Less AE links, less relevant.
If I click "support" instead of Community help, it’s not better, still more links pointing to Illustrator or Photoshop than After Effects. At least, 1 link is related to 3D layers in raytraced environment, but not what I’m looking for.
Oh yes, now there's a topic browsing page. Let's have a try with that. Guess what ? Couldn’t find the info I was looking for.
Removing the breadcrumb navigation in CS5 help was an ugly move, but this new help system is just... I don’t know how to say it politely. I haven’t been satisfied with the help system since CS5, when you removed the very usefull, always on context and organised bredcrumb navigation on the left hand side of the screen. I wished you stoped the "search" paradigm and went back to the "organised" one. I know your metrics shows people love searching. But how many search does they have to go through before getting the correct result ? How many unsuccessfull search before they don't bother anymore ? Honestly I’ve never seen such a messy help, and it really is confusing. It even feels like Adobe doesn’t bother about it anymore, and that it’s now relying only on external content, giving the feeling that the only thing up-to-date are the links to videobrain/creativecow/whatever rather than the official content itself. Hopefully, the curators for these links only points to very good tutorials.
The other thing that is bothering me, is that we get more and more video content instead of text content. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching videos. But I also love to read the docs. It’s much more effective that trying to seek in the video for that special piece of info you are looking for (and there no way to know if the info you’re looking for is indeed in the video or not, or to "search" it's content).
And don't get me started on the Help App, I never understood why you did it in the first place. Not as inconvenient as the website, but nearly.
Not having an efficiant documentation is bad. I’ve been asking for an help redesign since CS5, complained in a blog post and on the community help forums. With this new non-sensical online help, where nothing is to be found easily, this will soon become mendatory. If Adobe doesn’t care for help anymore, they should remove it completly instead of making it less and less relevant, and more and more messy. If you have an email address where I can send this rant I’d be glad to let the right people know.

    Thx for the reply Terri,
i'll probably send you a mail with more thoughts, but what I feel from your answer is that you didn't get the major issue I have with the online doc since CS5.
Sure it's nice to know that you'll fix your broken search engine and that you'll add some filters back (reference only). But the major issue here is your paradigm shift from indexed content to searched only content. Nothing can be found easily. Absolutely nothing. Either in localised versions or in the english version. The layout is nerve breaking, and the search results are really bad (but this is what you are going to fix someday soon).
For an online help to be efficient we need properly organised and Indexed content first, and then a powerfull search engine to find it if we don't know where to look. Right now, you've wipped out the index & organisation and just piled stuff here and there leaving us the only way you think we want to browse the help: search. And that's the problem. We are not able to browse the help anymore; We can only search it, and we even cannot rely on that.
Sincerly, go browse the CS4 online help. it was clear, and working like a breath with the always handy, and always displayed breadcrumb navigation. It also featured search. Now, go back to CS6, and tell me where is the improvment. No way to properly separate official docs, from adobe official blog posts, from 3rd party sites/blogs. Everything is mixed-up and unbrowsable. Even some of the "topic pages" makes no sens, as I demoed in my previous post. No way to keep on context. No way to explore more without returning back to the search results. Having more great content from 3rd party is really interesting, but it's poor integration with the official docs makes it an experience breaker.
When I'm in my app and need help, I need to first and foremost go to the official help, I need it clearly organised and with an understandable and clean layout. And when I'm on my topic and feel I need more info/ in depth knowledge, a link to 3rd party tutorials, free or paying. And it's not the experience I'm getting. And it's the experience I need. I don't understand how it became so messy, but honestly, I've never seen something like that.
Also, you've increased focus on video content. Yeah watching tutorial is cool. But video is not searchable. Video is not immediate. When I need help, I need to read the answer first to fix my issue, and then, if I feel I need to learn more, go to AdobeTV, Videocopilot, Videobrain & such to learn more stuff. Your enphasis on 3rd party and video content have shrank the volume of quickly available info. We need more text content, and more text content from within the official documentation, not from partners. Because once again, each time i'm redirected to a partner site, I loose context...
So please, stop focusing on search only, and bring back the much stronger breadcrumb navigation, bring back in front the official documentation, so the info precise, findable, and not dilluted.

  • Extremely slow in every way. Typing, loading, moving and even just scrolling from the top of the page to the bottom. Keeps getting worse. Maddingly frustrating!!! Help!!

Firefox has gotten extremely slow. Typing, loading, searching, even just scrolling from the top of a page to the bottom. My daughter had the same thing happen to her and had to get her computer stripped down and completely reloaded. I don't have that option. It has no viruses and has been completely freed of all things that could slow it down.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== About a month ago. It is getting worse.

Hmm... try downloading the [http://www.firefox.com latest] version... but if that doesn't work then try [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Not sure what could be causing it...

  • Yellow tint! the 3rd Screen of my iMac 27, it's getting worse and worse...

Hi everyone not sure if there is anything more i could do with this, I have a 2010-13 week iMac, it came with a 'bearable' yellow tint problem from the beginning, after a hard drive failure i had to send my iMac back to Apple care, i was hoping the screen problem had been solved so I asked them to replace my screen as well, it came back with a worse panel showed much larger area of yellow tint...
Then I decided to wait for a few months until a week ago before my holiday i called for another exchange, was hoping for a perfect screen after my holiday, now holiday is over and iMac is back, just right after I pressed the power button, the start up screen with apple logo clearly tells me that i have got a even more disgusting panel - the worst of all i have to say, a new uneven shadow line on the bottom plus the usual yellower tint spreads over the middle of the screen, oh yes, they decided to make it even worse, a big dead spot as well in the corner ....
after a few hours, when i was editing a photo in Aperture, I have discovered something even more disturbing, from right edge of the screen inwards there is around 8cm wide vertical band shows obvious brighter tone than the rest of screen...
I do a lot of black & white photography plus a lot 3D graphic work, for a while I had tried to live with the yellow issue until it got really frustrating - now i have to once again arrange an exchange as this one is just unbearable!
Is this really Apple? Hard drive failed after a year and this is the 3rd screen of the iMac, and it just gets worse...
I wonder if there's anyone who had the luck to get the yellow screen replaced by a decent one?

Are you talking about a mid-2011 iMac or a 2010 iMac?
As it seems, the issue of color inconsistency of the iMac display is far from solved. Yellow tint, uneven brightness, light-leaks are very easily found even of newer models. I have a two-week-old mid-2011 27-inch iMac that I tried to replace for a new one because of yellow tint issue. It turned out that the replacement iMac had a worse screen... So I kept the first one. Not sure if the right thing to do is just get the screen replaced. It seems users have done it with no success...
So, I guess these problems are structural on the iMac line. They seem very much to be omnipresent. And I don't see Apple offering a genuine/trustworthy solution through its in-warranty support.

  • My screen has a gouge in it and it starting to spiderweb. Is there anyway to prevent it from getting worse?

I went to use my iPad mini and the screen has a gouge on the side of it. It is starting to spiderweb. It is only a small spot currently. Is there any way to keep it from getting worse?

No, and it would be a REALLY good idea to make a backup of your content as soon as possible, then take the iPad to an Apple store genius bar for an out-of-warranty replacement.  If you backup to iCloud the techs can restore your content while you wait.

I got a mac a few months ago and a few weeks ago I began to get mackeeper ads popping up in a different screen. Now it s getting worse and happening almost every time I click on something, and there s even more variety of what websites pop up. Now I have pop ups on the actual website I m on and they pop up every time I click something. It s really obnoxious and I hate it. How can I get rid of this....? It s really distracting

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.
