Deep scratches

I got my black iPod 3 days ago. On the first day I noticed a deep scratch on the screen area, this is pretty much right after leaving the box, I definately hadn't touched the screen area yet. I ignored it because I was too lazy to replace it and the whole scratch is only visible from an angle. But the top part still defracts about 2-3 pixels. Since then I've gotten 3 small scratches which defract about 1 pixel each. I have the iPod in my jacket, and instead of turning it off I just unplug the heaphones. I'm guessing the headphone jack rubs against iPod causing these other small scratches. Would it be possible to replace this? 5-6 defracted pixels can hinder your viewing experince and 2-3 of them were not my fault. Do you think the Apple store would take it back for me. I'm pretty distraught over it.

Yeah I'm definately doing that after this. Also I've noticed that there's some hard drive noise leaking into the headphones so this definately has a problem. I hear little clicking noises when playing a song or video, but only for about half the port. So if I just turn the headphone jack around it goes away. Still I could use that as an excuse to get this replaced.

You can't without replacing the screen, which is expensive. How did it get the deep scratch? You probably should have put a screen protector on it.

  • Deep Scratches in iPad screen

I have had my iPad since December and have always been careful with it, cleaned it regularly etc.
But just recently 3 deep scratches have appeared on my screen and they distort the image below them. I have been looking for a protector screen for it but apple doesn't sell them and no computer type stores near me do either.
Has anyone had the same problem and if so, did you go to the genius bar? And what did they make of it?

The Genius Bar will do nothing, scratches are user damage and are not covered by warranty.
If they were not there when you got the device then you are responsible for the damage.
Amazon sell iPad screen protectors, just use Google.

  • Deep scratches make me want to cry

I dropped my iPod shuffle on asphalt yesterday. The scratches are not just superficial. It got severely scratched, it looks like somebody would make strikes with a key. Though it got scratched only on the clip part and the clip got also slightly moved. I really dislike the idea that I would have to just live with a scratched shuffle So what are my options before I do that?
Could I get just the clip part replaced if I send the iPod in for repair? And if that's not an option: I don't think I could remove the scratches with a scratch removal polish because they're too deep but still, I could try. What kind of heavy-duty product do you suggest?
    Thank you for your answer.

Getting the clip "repaired" would probably cost more than the $49 price of a refurbished shuffle from the online Apple Store (assuming you can buy online from Slovenia...).

  • IMac 24" Replacement screen has deep scratches

i recently had a problem with my 24" iMac 8,1 that the screen had major burn-in and blotches and horizontal lines everywhere. i took it to the apple store and they replaced that along with my hard drive. i received my iMac back and everything was great "so i thought" today the sun was shining on the iMac and the screen was turned off and i could see a whole bunch of marks and scratches in the replacement lcd itself and very deep ones to the right of the screen. this is not right it seems like they dont take any effort or care in replacing the screens of computers.

its probably just a factory mistsake. not to get off topic but Nintendo has things like that too and sometimes worse. just tell them that when u had it replaced last time, u got it back with scrathes and nick theyll probably replace it. then inspect it again. if the same thing happens or they decline demand a new unit

  • I found what looks like a small but deep scratch in my ipad mini.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it

There's no good way to fix a scratch. If it's in the body of the iPad and it really bothers you, I'd suggest a skin or a case so you just don't see it. If it's in the screen, then short of paying Apple for a replacement there's nothing effective you can do.
    Regards.

  • Is there a repair for deep back scratches ipod touch 5th gen?

I was so irresponsible. I got out of the car without knowing that my iPod touch was on my lap, and my iPod fell on the ground. The disappointing part was it has a deep scratches on the side because it slid and the volume buttons were scratched to. I'm looking on the internet if there's a repair for deep back scratches, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything that would help my case.  Hoping someone could help me!

You can try fingernail  polish or acrylic paint of the right color. However, I would just get a case that covers the scratches then best you can.

  • Scratched on the back of my MacBook Pro, can I get this fixed with Apple Care?

    Hello community,
today I found out there are some scatches in the back my aluminum MacBook Pro. There is one fairly deep scratch. This has probably happened in my backpack since I use it for school.
My question is: is this something Apple Care will help me fix? If not, how much will it cost to get a completely new back.
    Regards,
    Alwin.

That damage is not covered by AppleCare.

  • Scratch on screen - anybody know how to get rid of it?

    Hi,
I have a deep, but superficial scratch on my Macbook air glossy screen. The scratch is only in the film on top of the LCD display and the hardware underneath is not affected. Does any one know of a polish I could use to get rid of the scratch? I worry about applying abrasive to the film as I fear it may make the problem worse. Anybody know what to do?
    Thanks!

If the scratch is deep, I would leave it be, as most cleaners/polishes won't remove deep scratches. Doing anything could make it worse, leaving it be is the _best option_. If it bugs you too much, you can spring the $200 to replace the screen yourself.

  • How much to repair a scratched screen?

I have apple care, but I heard it is not covered.  It is a small deep scratch on my screen about 1.5 cm long.

    Hi Evan,
Correct, the AppleCare Protection Plan doesn't cover any sort of "wear and tear" or accidental damage. Apple won't attempt to fix the screen, they'll just replace the entire panel and it won't be cheap ($700+). There are 3rd parties that can do it for you, usually considerably cheaper, but you'll want to ensure they're an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Lastly, you could also perform the replacement yourself and that would be the cheapest option.
The thing you want to be mindful of is preserving your APP on the machine. If Apple does it, there's no problem. If an Apple Authorized Service Provider does it, same. But if some "computer shop" does it or you try to do it and problems arise you're not only financially invested but you run the risk of voiding the APP on the machine.

  • Scratches on iphone 5c back, can apple store replace it?

My new 5c has deep scratch on back of it, can this be replaced at all? thanks in advance

    How did scratches happen ?
In the box ? Apple will replace it. Call Apple Care or go to an Apple Store.
You did it ? It is not a good reason to change it if you don't have an Apple Care+ account.

  • Scratches on iPod

Any face the problem with scratches on their iPod?
I had purchased my 60GB iPod Video in Jan this year. As expected, after several months of usage, the screen was scratched. This being a portable device and the fact that the screen is made of plastic is why scratches are expected.
Thinking that the casing would be easily replaced, I called Apple to find out how and where to get the casing replaced. I was bounced all over the place and finally only after 4 calls was I able to get a case number on Thursday 19 Oct. I had to call them again on Monday 23 Oct, only to find out that Apple does not replace casings and if I wanted to get rid of the scratches, there are only 4 options for me:
    1. Purchase a "Scratch Kit" from Apple at $38.
    2. Void my warranty and get a 3rd party replacement.
    3. Purchase a New iPod.
    4. Live with it
I had already purchased the "Scratch Kit" and it does not work. Getting a 3rd party replacement does not make sense as it would void my warranty. Purchasing a new iPod at $600 does not make financial sense. And, imagine watching a video on a scratched screen!
As I explained to the customer service person,
    1. Apple did not give ample notice that the casing cannot be replaced.
    2. The material that is used for the casing is PLASTIC, which is easily scratched.
    3. If the casing is cannot be replaced, then, Apple should have provided a screen protector.
    4. IF the material used was more scratch resistant, I could understand if the casing was not replaceable, but the material used is PLASTIC!
I believe that I am not the only person with this problem. Either Apple provide a casing replacement option, or, improve on the material used.
Does anyone have any similar experience and what can we do?
    HP   Windows XP   compaq

I use my Ipod video in and nano alot in my work, I have a speaker system (sonic infusion) that does not allow me to use the case. I live in Mexico in a dusty and very dirty enviroment. I get fine to some fairly deep scratches at times to the case on my Ipod. I have the screen protected with a pda protector, which works great. I have for the past year been removing scratches from my Nano and for the past month or so have removed from my 60 gig black video several scratches. I have found three products that take a little work, but work great. The first is PlastX by Meguiar's, it is an auto polish and can be found at most auto stores (not sure about Singapore) The next is displex I ordered off the web. It works great as well, the third is Brasso. Brasso really does work well, but after repeated uses it does seem to lighten up the click wheel a very little bit. All three products work but you do need patience and a soft non marring lint free cloth. Try the disposable cloths made for eyeglasses. Also these products work great on the screens, was not always bright enough to use a pda protector.....

  • How can I get rid of ALL the scratches on my iPod without ruining it?

My sister totally scrached up my iPod by dragging it around wood floors. It still works perfectly normal but I dont want scratches on it. Is there anything I can buy to fix the scratches?
      Windows XP

I've used Brasso to remove minor scratches/scuffs from my Nano and 5th Gen iPod. It works pretty well, and it's available at any hardware store. Your local supermarket might even carry it in the isle with cleaning products.
I don't know how well it would work for you. Having the iPod dragged around the floor sounds pretty rough. If it has deep scratches, there might not be anything you can do for it.

  • Is the rMBP extra sensitive to scratches?

    Hello everybody,
When I bought my rMBP all was fine and dandy. Within a week I bought the Crumpler 15" Slip, hoping it would protect my screen from any scratches and stuff. After I bought and started using the slip I suddenly found some scratches on my screen. At first I thought it was a dead pixel but the guys from the Premium Reseller said it was a scratch. They wouldn't replace my screen, because scratches on the screen weren't part of the garantee.
Frustrated I went home, I payed 2500 euro's for my rMBP (incl. AppleCare). That said, a week later (still using the Slip) a big *** black beam running from the top to the bottom of the screen:
So now they would replace the screen at my Reseller. I was happy, the scratched "pixel" was replaced too.
A month later the same thing happened, a scratch in my screen. I didn't use my kitchen knife and started scratching the surface of my screen... This all started to raise some questions in my head. I found this article from Apple for example:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4384
Prior to this rMBP I had a MBP 13" and it survived a nuclear disaster without leaving a scratch (a "little" bit exaggerated). For real: I had it for 3 years, no scratch on my screen.
Now I'm a graphic designer and I need my screen to be spot on clean. The scratch is located in the middle of my canvas in i.e. Adobe Illustrator. To check if my colors are right, I always have to move the canvas around. Very frustrating!!
    My question(s) to you all:
Are the rMBP screen more sensitive to scratches. Is a breadcrumb enough to create such a deep scratch that shows that well (like I said, looking like dead pixel)?
Is a scratch, that withholds me from doing my job efficiently, part of the AppleCare garantee?
    Thanks everyone,
    Merijn

I also have a dead pixel sized scratch on my rMBP. Just found it today. Middle of my screen and anyoning. I'm sure I will get used to it but after paying $3000USD for it just 3.5 months ago has got me fustrated. I got this screen because I am photographer and wanted that extra resolution. This screen does seem more sensitive than others I have had. My previous laptops seem like they went at least a year without a nick in the screen.
As for the AppleCare portion of the question, I am not sure. Would love to know.
    Best,
    P
