Deep sleep (hibernate) never comes back

Hi,
Since Installing Lion (10.7.1) and upgrading VMware fusion to version 4 deep sleep never comes back. My computer stalls at the "white-grey" screen.
When I had Snow Leopard + Fusion 3.x everything worked fine.
This happens when the VM is running. If the VM is suspended everything works fine.
Obviously I already started a support request with wmware, but they gave only general suggestions and this didnt really solve the problem.
I have tried pmset -g hibernatemode 1, 5, 25.
The last value works a little bit better.
I'd like to know if somebody stumbled across this same problem.

I hate when nobody pings... well, I was passing by and found this today.. I have a kind of a similar problem.. but check if it helps you, if you still needed of course...

C.

There is nothing wrong with the OS update.
    Delete ALL your email accounts.
    Restart Playbook
Put the accounts back and ensure they are all set with PUSH ON.  Manual (push off) will burn battery.
Similarly delete your wifi connections and add back when required.
Turn off wifi is not connected to wifi.
Any "hunting for connection" in email or wifi will burn up battery.

  • Skype shows "Connecting" and never comes back

Upgraded to v7 recently.  Running a Win 8 desktop.  Had no issues w/Skype for years.
Now, after finally getting what I thought was a successful Installation, Skype just sits their in the desktop tray (pale icon) and says "connecting" and never comes back.  Disabled my firewall (which was never a problem before) and it didn't matter.
Frustrated, I clicked the desktop icon and then got another error indicating I am "logged onto this PC with another Skype account", where upon I then try to login to Skype with a different account, and it then infinitely just says "logging in".
I've uninstalled and re-installed countless times (and yes, countless reboots and shut-down / power back on) and I've finally given up using Skype for awhile, since nothing I can do makes a difference.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Try first to reset all Skype settings.
Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old.
Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder.
    Restart Skype.
N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.

  • Interactive report over db_link never comes back

    Hi,
I have an interactive report (over db_links) which takes 20 sec. to run in sql workshop, but it never comes back when I run it as an interactive report! I always get an error page due to timeout.
    Any idea why?
    Thanks.

    Hi
The interactive report will change the actual SQL executed even if you have no filters, aggregations etc on. If you look at a trace file you will see COUNT OVER() and the apex max row count stuff.
As the SQL text is different, the optimizer may choose a different execution plan which affects where the different parts of the work is performed (on the local site or the external site). This can change execution times vastly.
So run a 10046 trace without the interactive report and run one with the interactive report. Once you've done this you can determine the more desirable one and think about putting a
/*+ DRIVING_SITE(table_name) */hint in the interactive report query.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

I have apple TV  this is second time   My money goes down to drain  first time not even load a movie   To night   I was watching  movie but  stop never come back .what  could be the reason?

I had the exact same thing happen ... for the second time.  I'm done renting movies on Apple TV that I cannot watch, and don't get my money back.  I have a strong Internet connection, and about 10 minutes into a movie and it stops and says that the movie will be ready to view in 55 hours.  Rediculous ... and frustrating.  I don't know how to fix this, and I disagee with the other person responding to you who said it was your network.  I have a strong network, running through an Airport Extreme -- and this problem persists.  I'm done.

  • My early 2011 Macbook Pro on start up has wifi, but drops it soon after and never comes back, AHT shows nothing wrong. Multiple wifi's tried and same on all.

My early 2011 Macbook Pro on start up has wifi, but drops it soon after and never comes back, AHT shows nothing wrong. Multiple wifi's tried and same on all.  I have also re-installed OSX from scratch and still happens.

I have the same problem. I have a white macbook 2010, with mavericks os. I just found my mac not powering on and then I tried to run it on safe mode by holding the shift button but it will turn off seconds after I let go of the shift button. I am able to access the desktop and use it while holding the shift button the whole time. It's a bit slower than before but I figured maybe it's because of holding down shift button.
I went to the Apple Store to have them look at my mac and I was told it's a failed hard disk. I wasn't told why he was able to conclude that a failed hard disk is causing the problem, I was just told to get a replacement. But the thing is when I ran Disk Utility it says, "disk appears to be okay." So I also feel like it's possible it's not a hard disk issue because it's also the first time it happened. My mac was working perfectly fine before all this.
Do you know anything else that could cause this problem? Were you able to find out what's wrong?
    Thanks.

  • Deep sleep (hibernate mode) instead sleep

    Hello everyone,
I have a little problem with my macbook. When the battery reach 5% left, I get the usual warning. But if I continue to use my macbook, it doesn't go in sleep mode but in deep sleep mode when the battery reach 0%. And I'm pretty sure that's not the good behaviour because in the calibration guide from apple, it says
"At this point, save your work.  Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low, the computer will automatically go to sleep."
I've already checked the hibernation mode. The value is 3. Wich is safe sleep.
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, this problem seems to have begun shortly after I installed 10.6.1
but only seems to affect a Canon LiDE 200 scanner (other USB devices are fine).
And as others have reported, it doesn't happen every time - I can scan for 3 or
4 days in a row, and then not be able to scan. For example, I scanned 2
documents today before dinner, put my iMac to sleep for a few hours, and woke it
after dinner - and couldn't scan.
The only reliable solution is a restart, which I really don't want to do, since
I have many other apps running. I tried unplugging the scanner, put the system
to sleep, then wake it, and plugging the scanner back in, but no difference.
I used to have this scanner on a powered USB hub, but recently began to plug it
into a port on the back of the iMac - but again, same results (no scanning).
Any idea if this is the beginning of a failure in the USB part of the system
board? Or a failure of the scanner? Or bad Canon driver software? It's really
    frustrating . . .
Thanks for any suggestions you-all may have . . .

  • WiFi disappears, never comes back

I was wondering if anyone had a problem with WiFi disappearing completely on iPod Touch 2nd Gen. Mine happens regularly at work -- it'd work fine, but then after some time WiFi icon disappears, and after that going into WiFi settings shows spinning wheel and no access points at all (even though people with iPhone have no problem).
At this point it will never show anything unless I completely shut it down (holding power button and then shut down) or reset WiFi settings. I brought it to Apple Store and had the same thing -- spinning wheel and no networks. Yes, I can power-cycle it (which takes a while) but it's very annoying. Turning WiFi off via settings slider doesn't do anything (I tried it several times, flipping it immediately, turning off for a few seconds, for a few minutes, no change -- comes back with spinning wheel and doesn't show any wifi APs).
I guess I should try to exchange it for another one Help!

Thanks Matt. I've just recalled something that may have contributed to my G4s demise. About a year ago, an idiot work colleague tripped over the power cable and pulled thing onto the floor! It groaned and squeaked for five minutes and then carried on working and has done since. Until now that is........the FATAL report could have been there for all this time, not sure, but it's a sad day when ones beloved computer gets sick and dies a horrible death.
One thing though this does say about MAcs. If it does fall on the floor, it;ll keep going for at least a year after that! Robust or what?

  • My iMac won't deep sleep/hibernate after last update

I use my iMac almost everyday (sometimes except of weekends) and one of first things I did when I bought it I somehow turned on hibernation function which I use on my MacBook (RAM->HDD and power off). It's very useful for me since the next day I get everything where I left it and it uses no energy during the night.
Yesterday I finally had to reboot my iMac for some reason and decided it would be a good time to make updates which needed the OS restart anyway - it was one Safari update and I think one OS update. After my iMac rebooted and I pressed power button - instead of showing the screen in gray and progress bar of saving RAM to HDD my screen turned off and I could turn on my Mac by just pressing any key on the keyboard - which means it just went to sleep mode - not "deep sleep" or "hibernate".
I don't remember how I made hibernation work on my iMac. I tried the "pmset -a hibernatemode 1" trick, few apps like InsomiaX, SmartSleep (showing "hibernate only"), Deep Sleep widgets but none of them works. Do you know any other way to turn on deep sleep/hibernation mode on my desktop mac?
    PS. "pmset -g" returns:
    Active Profiles:
    AC Power -1*
    Currently in use:

My connection works OK but I have the same problem you describe occasionally. Seems to be an intermittent problem with the HDMI socket in my PB.

  • Time machine for iPhoto restore keeps searching - never comes back

I need to restore to a previous time machine backup but when I go into iPhoto to try to look at the backups, it keeps saying searching for photos (I can use the date bar on the right but it never loads - waited 10 hours and still no load). I do have a lot of photos 38 thousand of them.
What can I do to fix this?
    Much thanks!
    -Sig

If you want to restore the entire library enter Time Machine while viewing the contents of your Pictures folder in the Finder. Then select the library you want to restore and bring it back. If you have room on your boot drive select the option to keep both just in case the restored version isn't what you expected.

  • PSCS2 lockup with 50% CPU usage - never comes back

Hi, I've been trying to solve this very frustrating problem with no luck so far.
When I'm using custom brushes, often Photoshop CS2 will lock up and just churn using about 50% CPU and never unlock.  I have to kill the photoshop process in task manager.
The source images for the custom brushes are usually no larger than 150 to 200 pixels in diameter.  Is this too large?
My computer is Intel Pentium IV with 1 Gig RAM running XP.
I really hope someone can help me with this.  I haven't had any luck looking around the forums so far.
I've tried playing around with the preferences file doing things like reducing the number of history states, changing the memory allocation number, deleting the preferences file, etc.  Nothing of that sort seems to work.
    Thanks in advance,
    --James

Well, on your computer it is very likely too large. Sorry to say so, but the machine seems seriously inadequate for any kind of PS work and I definitely think that using excessively large brushes would kill it because the engine cannot accumulate and blend the individual "daubs" in memory before propagating them to the canvas as a stroke. In clearer words: You need much more RAM.

  • Why does update plugin page never come back from checking my status? It just spins.

Using Firefox 22 on Acer Aspire on a dial-up internet connection. Computer alerted me that it could not view e-card and needed to update a plug-in/add-on and went to the Mozilla plugin check and updates page. It just spins, forever, without reporting back the status of my plugins. Tried clearing cache but made no difference.

What usually happens is that the page loads with the plugin list(s) blank, and as information is retrieved it slots them under up-to-date, out-of-date, and don't-know.
I don't know whether you ran into a temporary glitch, or whether the specific missing or outdated plugin was an issue.
Does it work any better to just load the page directly from a link?<br>https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/
If it's still not working for you, could you try the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by ''extensions'' (and some custom settings). Your plugins will still be active and available for research. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

  • After udev message (boot) screen gone dark and never comes back

    Hi,
I don't know if this a specific Laptop issue, but it occurs on my Aer Aspire Laptop. Archlinux is booting fine but most! the display gone black after loading the udevd during the startup and bnever returns! The boot process is still ongoing and after a short time the system is ready but there is no more output on the display. I guess the switch from the textmode interface (e.g. grub menu) to the graphics mode isn't working properly. If there is a way to stay on textmode during boot it will solve my problem. There is a standrd intel915 graphik chip working in this Laptop.

no, I don't tried this before but you've got it! appending
