Default action in DVD menu

I'm choogling along with iDVD and various software programs, generating disks and I found another beginner thing I can't figure out. How do I select which item on the main screen is the default? It seems to be (as near as I can tell) the first button I placed there - is this right? So, for example, I have a disk with three movies on it, each with a menu button. The first movie I added to the iDVD project is still the one that the user sees highlighted after inserting the disk in the player, but it's not the one I would like.
I know I can delete everything and start over and recreate the project but is that the only way to do this or is there some little toggle I haven't found?

Hi Rick:
No matter where you position them on the menu, buttons are still highlighted in the order in which they were created.
I don't think you can change that in iDVD. (But if I am wrong-someone will correct me!)

I used the CS2 quick DVD for review projects. But it is easy to accomplish this in CS3 and even easier in CS4 and CS5 (where you have dynamic link to Encore).
From Premiere CS4 with your desired sequence active, pick Fiile -> Adobe Dynamic Link -> Send to Encore.
This will open that sequence as a timeline in Encore and will make it first play. The simplest version is to set the end action of the timeline to "stop," set the transcode (probably the default) to automatic, and it will create a DVD with no menu that plays your movie.
If you want to add a simple menu, take a main (not a submenu) from the library and double click it. Remove all but one of the buttons. Link the button to your timeline, right click on the menu and make it "first play," and make the end action of your timeline "return to last menu."
Yes, it can become complicated very quickly, but simple menus should not be too difficult.

Extaracting a DVD menu

Is there a way to extract a DVD menu with or without workable buttons from a TS folder. also is there a software to open BUP's and IFO's from a video TS folder?

There are tons of extractors out there to do this kind of work. MPEG Stream Clip is a good one. Look in your TS folder under the VOB labeled "VOB010". This is where DVDSP puts the its menus by default.
"VOB020", "VOB030", ect if you happen to move your menu around in the VTS Viewer. Basically when you see "_0" - thats where the menus are.

DVD Menu Issue

Ok excellent, and just as a further point, if you have the time;
I am a little confused as to which dimensions I should use when creating a DVD menu in photoshop to use in Encore, to begin with I made one in 1920x1080 as I didn't realise DVDs could not be made in full HD.

It depends. You might want to post a screenshot. If the font is part of highlights, it is only 2 bit color. Also, if there is a motion background, Encore will render to the default transcode settings (part of the project settings).
Encore limits the viewing size for preview, as it should, so you don't make the window so large it is blowing it up. You are looking at the preview and not the menu monitor window?

DVD Menu/motion background issue

Every time I try to add a motion background to my DVD menu, the photoshop menu gets stretched horizontally. It looks fine when you add the video but when you preview and render it or burn it to DVD it stretches the menu. see screen shot.

Your menu shows as 1080x720; you say this is for DVD, but size would be wrong for DVD or Bluray.
Yes, you can get away with a variety of sizes; Encore will eventually transcode the menu to the project defaults. But using odd menu sizes makes problems more likely.
Make the menu itself the correct size. (Start with a library template for the project type - HD vs SD, standard vs wide.) Bring in a motion menu asset that is also the correct size. Don't let Encore do any resizing of those assets.

Default Action in JSF

Hi all,
I have a problem in submitting form by pressing enter key.
I am using <h:commandButton> in my form,its not getting clicked
whenever i use enter key to submit the form,but it works fine if i use mouse to click the button.
This problem occurs only in FireFox mozilla browser not in IE.
I tried to catch the key code for Enter key like

Cant select button in dvd menu

I have made a dvd menu in dvd studio pro 2, i can select the buttons with the control in the simulator, but then when i have burnt the dvd and try to do the same on my tv with the real remote control, I cant select the buttons.
Is there something under "remote control" I should choose specifically, "menu" perheps?

Is just one of your buttons selected when the menu starts up (it should be... the default button usually is selected)?
If so then I'll suggest looking at your button navigation - click on a button and check in the propertry inspector to see if the navigation has been set up - if not you can do it manually and specify which button you go to when any directional arrow on your handset is pressed, or you can let DVDSP assign the navigation automatically.
The latter is done from the 'settings' drop down box in the menu editor. I usually leave it until I have got the buttons into position before I add the navigation, because keeping them 'auto assigned' really slows down building the menu or moving buttons around.

Can you create a custom dvd menu with Premiere Elements 12?

I am giving this software a trial before deciding whether to buy. Is it possible to create your own custom DVD menu? I understand that you can "download" a template and customize it to some extent. But the customizing does not seem to allow you to delete or add elements, like graphics or menu buttons. I want to be able to delete graphics/menu buttons I don't want, as well as add or subtract buttons as I need for each project. Or, I would like to create a menu from scratch.
Is either method possible in Premiere Elements? Thank you for any assistance.

You can go with a one main menu set up and use main menu buttons. But, note that there are typically far less buttons on the main menu than on the scene menu. One maneuver is to switch the main menu with the scene menu to gain a buttons per page advantage. That is done by reversing the file names of the main menu .psd and scene menu .psd.
At the editing of the .psd level, there is also the choice to add more buttons per page to a scene menu and create text or thumbnail scene buttons.
One of the principles to keep in mind...no one movie in a multi movie Timeline can have its own Scene Menu page.

In any case, I have discovered that I can edit the templates and then bring them into my project. So long as I save them as the same name, Adobe Premiere Elements doesn't realize that anything has changed.
Are you following any one of my blog posts. If so, please let me know which one so I can focus in where you may be overlooking some detail. It is best to work with copies of the original and place them in appropriate folders in the directory structure. In doing that I give the user created menu a new name to distinguish it from the original.

If your customization does not require the opening of Layer Sets in the Layers Palette of the .psd file (happens under certain plans), Photoshop Elements can do the .psd edit job for you, and you do not have to go to Photoshop CS or higher. There are Photoshop actions that might be used in Photoshop Elements to open Photoshop Layer Sets (as found in the disc menu .psd files), but I will not get into that right now.
Please review and consider. And, then we can go into more details.

Subtitles suddenly displaying by default on burned DVD but not in simulator

Hello, subtitles which normally did not display until they were selected 'on' from a menu choice in the DVD are suddenly automatically being displayed by default when played on a stand alone DVD player for a television.
The subtitles however do not show up by default in the DVD Studio Pro simulator nor when I play from a 'build' folder using the Mac DVD player. Also, burned DVD's do not display the subtitles by default on two of my Macintosh systems when played with DVD Player (Macbook Pro and Powerbook G4 both running Leopard) yet the subtitles do display by default on a stand alone DVD player.
I have 'force display' off on the subtitle track (applied to whole subtitle stream).
I created brand new builds and can't figure out why this is suddenly occurring. I opened up very old projects and rebuilt them and they exhibit the same problems.
Anyone with any ideas? I recently upgraded from 10.4.11 to Leopard - is it possible that that would have caused the problem. Thank you.

I have not changed any settings on my set top Panasonic DVD player. The set top box can display subtitles but typically only does so when I choose it from a menu. This just started happening 2 days ago.
The same is occurring on another person's stand alone DVD player so I am fairly certain something is going on with the DVD build. The only major change I did recently was upgrade to Leopard and install the Apple software updates. There doesn't seem to be a preference or setting to display all subtitles in DVD Studio Pro - I am at a loss why this is doing this even with older projects that have worked perfectly and not been modified (just rebuilt and burned).

Make "Paste and Match Style" the default action?

Is there anyway to make "Paste and Match Style" the default action when typing command-v?

Not unless you reassign CMD-V to the menu command for past and match style. Done in the control panels for keyboard and mouse I think. I am not sure if your allowed to overwrite original keyboard shortcuts, but I think so.
But Paste and match style already has a keyboard shortcut. I take it you feel like an octopus trying to push all the keys together? I know I do for some of them.

Blank Blu-Ray (BD) insert default action

How can I change the default action when I insert a blank Blu-Ray? I have been authoring with Adobe Encore CS5 but every time I try to burn multiple copies of the same image, I get an error because the OS wants to take over when I close the drive. At first I said "Ignore" and make default action but the dialog continued to appear each time. Then I told it to launch Encore but I still see the dialog appear momentarily and then the process of burning multiple disks is interrupted. I don't see the options for BD default actions as I see for CD/DVD in System Preferences. Any Ideas?

I'd like to try changing this to launch Toast - how can it be done now that it has decided to launch Encore by default?

Delete picture default action

Hello,
is there any way to put Remove from disk as default action when hitting del and deleting a picture ("remove" from LR catalog is normally set as default). Lightroom 4 on Windows 7 OS.

You must be doing this from a collection.
Delete works differently when you are in a collection or when you are viewing photos in a folder.
From the Help Menu:
Remove photos from catalogs
Select one or more photos in the Grid view, or select a single photo in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view in the Library module.
Do one of the following:
Press the Backspace key (Windows) or Delete key (Mac OS).
Choose Photo > Delete Photo(s).
Note: When viewing a collection, pressing the Backspace key (Windows) or Delete key (Mac OS) removes the selected photo(s) from the collection, not from the catalog, and no Confirm dialog box appears. To remove a photo from a collection as well as from the catalog, select the photo and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift+Delete (Mac OS). See Remove photos from a collection.
In the Confirm dialog box, click one of the following:
Remove
Removes photos from the catalog but doesn’t send them to the Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (Mac OS).
Delete From Disk
Removes photos from the catalog and sends them to the Recycle Bin (Windows) or Trash (Mac OS).
If more than one photo is selected in the Filmstrip in Loupe, Compare, or Survey view, only the active photo is deleted.

Problem with invoking an Action in a Menu...

I wanted to make a program that would create a box of rectangles and have each rectangle change color when clicked.
I want the user to be able to decide which color you want the rectangle to be. I put choices in a menu.
However whenever an option is selected from the menu, I get exceptions:

How to change default action "alarm" for all signatures ?

My question belongs to a Cisco 1712 (128 MB, IOS 12.3T, SDM 2.5 installed):
I'm trying to change the default action "alarm" to "alarm,reset,drop" for all signatures of my custom set.
However doing so via SDM fails. First, it appears as being done correctly, but after compiling the signatures again, the default values are back there (in the same sense, I was unable to delete signatures, works just using the CLI).
I followed the instructions at cisco.com:

You can use IOS command-line interface (CLI) to change signature actions for one signature or a group of signatures based on signature categories. The following example shows how to change signature action to alert, drop and reset for signature 6130 with subsig ID of 10.
