Default Administrator password in BI Administration Tool - Security Manager

Hello all,
I'm new to OBIEE and have recently been playing around in the BI Administration Tool to create my own repository (.rpd) metadata files from demo DBs. I selected "Manage" -> "Security" to open Security Manager and then set a logging level of 2 on the Administrator user.
UNFORTUNATELY, there is a default password that apparently gets specified that I didn't notice, so when I closed my repository file and tried to re-open it, it is now challenging me for a password that I didn't set, don't know, and have not been able to find in documentation or posted threads anywhere.
Has anyone else ever come across this problem before or know the default password? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Guys,
First, let me thank you all for you quick responses and willingness to give me a hand. It's greatly appreciated. And thanks Ally for noticing the name! Glad you liked it. :)
Unfortunately, my problem still exists. None of the following passwords worked for me: <blank>, "Administrator", "administrator", or "ADMINISTRATOR".
Also, I should clarify for the thread that I'm not using Paint.rpd or SH.rpd; I'm creating my own repository from scratch. For those who read this post and have literally 90 seconds to spare, I would ask you to try and recreate this same thing with me and see if it's just me (and if I'm crazy):
1) Open OBI Administration Tool
2) DO NOT open an existing repository, create a new one. Name it whatever; mine is the default "Metadata1.rpd"
3) Don't bother adding any metadata to it, go immediately to "Manage" --> "Security" --> "Users" and open up the Administrator user by double-clicking it.
4) Notice there is a "Password" and "Confirm Password" value already defined by default! DON'T change it (this is the password in question that I accidentally accepted). Just click the "OK" button without making any changes to that form.
5) Save, close, and then try to re-open this repository you just created. It should be challenging you for a password now, right? And I bet it will not accept <blank> or any variation of "Administrator".
Believe me, I know better now in the future to not let this happen. But I can't for the life of me figure out this password that was automatically populated and WHY there would be one there in the first place! I was walking through a lab that told me to open this security setting for Administrator to set a logging level, but it did not mention anything about a setting a password. So, I created a repository that I have now magically locked myself out of. :)
Can anyone else please try to recreate this and let me know if it's just me or not? I am using BI Administration Tool version: 10.1.3.3.2.071217.1900.
Thanks again guys.

    Hi @Aqeel_Rafique ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your Elitebook and issues with HP ProtectTools Security Manager password. The password could be the one that you use to log onto your Notebook or entered at the BIOS.
You could follow these steps, even though, I don't recommend this as it is Security Tools.
Step 1:Click Start, then "All Programs." Select "HP Protect Tools Security Manager" from the list of programs.
Step 2:Click "Settings." Click the box to the left of the menu. The green check in the box should disappear, which means that the application is disabled.
Step 3:Close the window and restart the computer. Then try to uninstall the software

  • WIN10 issues with HP Protect Tools Security Manager

WIN10 won`t install on PC´s with  HP Protect Tools Security Manager (WIN7), as it is incompatible with WIN10 install. program reuires that HP Protect Tools will be uninstalled before proceeding with installation of WIN10. However, this seems to be quite impossible. Just disabling the program with the stemps described earlier does not work. Has anyone info how to UNINSTALL completely the HP Protect Tools Security Manager? I guess HP will notice this issue soon because there are many HP PC owners with WIN7 (probably even WIN8) that are unable to install WIN10,  and  make steps to create a new with WIN10  compatible version  of the Tools Sec. manager, but it will probably take some time.

Try update your system with HP SoftPaq Download Manager and reinstall Win10.The problem was my old version of HPPTSM. With 8.3.3.... works. My HP 6470b, Win7 64.

  • Disable or uninstal HP ProtectTools security manager

My fingerprint scanner has gone down.
I assume it is a hardware issue as have gone through all HP recomendations to get it working at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c02519007&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
    but nothing has worked.
Anyway the notebook never leaves my house so it's not an issue. However, everytime I turn the notebook on and log in with my password, HP security manager butts in and spends a minute looking for the reader before telling me the biometric authentication service is not working and asks if I would like to continue without it.
Can I disable this program to speed boot up time as it is not needed in my instance?

  • HP Security Manager 7 not installing in Win 7 (64 bit)

Hello Tech Gurus, This is very surprising.  I was using HP Protect Tool Security Manager 7 for last 3 years. But there were some problems due to which I uninstall all the HP security softwares and tried to install Validy Finger Print Driver, Security Manager, HP Face Recognition software. So I downloaded the latest driver from the below HP site. https://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=5229456&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4059 sp57486 - Security Manager (7.0.1.1199)sp58940 - Face Recognition for HP ProtectTools (7.2.1.4548)sp64338 - Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver  (4.4.228.0) Fingerprint Driver got installed but Security Manager and Face Recognition software is not installing. When trying to install Security Manager its saying "This Software is not supported on this system". Its not possible because I have used the same software earlier. Even I tried to install previous version of Security Manager which I downloaded 2 years back and woked fine also. But getting the same error. I am not able to understand how to resolve the issue? Can anyone please help me? System - Probook 4540sOS - Win Prof 7 ( 64 bit) Thanks,Suvendu

USB-Parallel converters can be problematic.  The models listed in posts flagged here have been verified by users to work with 64 bit Windows 7.

  • HP ProtectTools Security Manager and Windows 10

I am going to be updating to Windows 10, howevver it is saying that the HP ProtectTools Security Manager is not compatible with Windows 10. 2 questions I have. The first is: Is there going to be a replacement for these tools for Windows 10?Second is: How do I uninstall the tools so that I can proceed, properly?

Indeed! These instructions are useful but there is a newer version of Client Security Manager http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_141863_1 Just to inform others users, HP protect tools security Manager has been rebranded to Client Security Manager. So it's the same software, they just change the name and the logo

  • Is there such a thing as a default administrator password?

I've searched these forums & elsewhere but haven't seen anything quite like this. My parents' new iMac was set up by someone else several months ago & I am visiting them for the first time since.
Things generally work OK but they find that occasionally they are prompted for a password to update the keyboard's firmware, for example, but then their administrator's password (which works otherwise for software updates) won't work for these prompts. In poking around their iMac I also discovered that some portions of System Preferences also seem to have a mystery password (unknown to any of us). For example, the security settings & the password settings can't be changed without this mystery password. I'm pretty sure that they didn't do anything or set a firmware password; I'm also pretty sure that the guy who set up their iMac wouldn't have done anything like this. He was pretty careful to leave printed out password & hint instructions for them. This is why I am wondering if there is some "factory default" administrator password or something that we've overlooked.
Does fixing this require using the installation disk to reset the administrator password, or is there something else that I should be doing or looking for?
Thanks so much for any advice you may have!

First Enable the root user account:
To enable the root user account:
Open System Preferences and click Accounts.
If the lock icon is locked, unlock it by clicking it and entering the name and password of an administrator.
Click Login Options, then click Join or Edit.
If you see an Edit button, your computer has at least one connection to a directory server.
    Click Open Directory Utility.
Choose Edit > Enable Root User.
    Next:
change the root user account password:
Choose Edit > Change Root Password.
When prompted, enter the new root password in the Password and Verify fields.
    Click OK.
    Next:
Choose Edit > Disable Root User.
    Close directory Utility.
If it won't allow you to execute the above instructions, then your account may not have
    any administrator privileges.

  • Security / reset integrated website administrator password

    Hi,
    I'm using a HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One - C311a (PMN: CQ877A, Firmware: VEP1CN1137CR).
While trying to setup the integrated website security administrator password, I used a generated 20 characters password.
After that, I was unable to login to the printer administrator settings with the same password. I also tried with the same password removing some characters at the end, one by one, just in case the printer password internal storage field got truncated to less than 20 characters.
I tried a Partial Reset, Semi-Full Reset, OOBE Reset, Full Reset (through what seems to be a blue boot menu) and Clear derivatives. None of these methods cleared the administrator password.
Is there any particular command or method that would allow me to gain back administrative access ?
    Thank you,
    This question was solved.

    Hi Jay4096,
The Semi-full is the reset that would reset the password in your screenshot you provided. You will need to contact support, and let them know that the printer fails to clear the password using the Semi-full reset. You can contact our technical support at 800-474-6836. My PXIE controller was installed and setup with LabView (I assume) at NI. The OS is Windows XP,  what is the Administrator password that was set during this process? ie how can I log in to the controller for the first time.

    Go to Solution.

    Try this:
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/11/25/easily-login-to-windows-xp-with-no-password-administrator-a...
Basically you press ctrl-alt-del twice when you get the login screen. Hopefully the administrator password hasn't actually been set, so you can just press ok or enter.
This is what I found on two used PXI systems that I bought at auction.
Because this is so simple I would strongly recommend setting an admin password as soon as you can.

  • Ibook G4 Administrator Password

I just recieved an ibook G4 from an online auction I bought, and a copy of OS X Tiger. I am new to Mac's ( this is my first one ) and when I insert the disk into the DVD drive, it loads up correctly, and then says it needs to restart to install the OS. When I click on restart, it says it needs an Administrator Password to continue. The username it displays is user, and I have no clue what the password is. Is there any way to reset it, or to bypass it? I have no idea what OS is currently on the machine, and I have no idea how to check it. I am good with a PC, and I am tired of spyware and virus's, so if anyone has anything they can advise, I would really appreciate it, and I am all ears

I think that Brody is only referring to the normal administrative password. In the event that you ARE dealing with an open firmware password, and his methods don't work, here is something you can try... it's a bit of work, because open firmware password is meant to make the computer extra secure.
Note: I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong if you use the methods listed below. They should only be used as a last resort if you can't get the password from the previous owner... and make sure you try Brody's suggestion first.
    This is copied from: http://www.computerworld.com/printthis/2005/0,4814,103889,00.html
    ******************Bypassing Open Firmware Security
If you forget the Open Firmware password for a computer, or if someone else sets one before you do, you can reset the Open Firmware settings to their defaults (no password and the none security mode). If other Open Firmware settings have been changed, this might reset them as well. As I said, it's a cumbersome process, so you'll want to avoid having to do it.
First, open the computer and either remove or install RAM. What you need to do is change the amount of RAM that's installed in the computer, so simply moving modules around won't do the trick. Reboot the computer with the changed amount of RAM and zap the PRAM. (Changing the installed RAM allows you to use the command-option-P-R key combination to zap the PRAM, regardless of the Open Firmware security mode, which removes the password.) Then boot into the Open Firmware prompt and use the set-defaults command. This should reset all Open Firmware configurations to the default settings. Use the reset-all command to reboot with the new settings, after which you can set a new password and security mode (either directly through the Open Firmware prompt or using another tool). Restore the original amount of RAM in the computer.
The ability to get around Open Firmware like this is a key reason to ensure that computers are physically secure. This process won't work unless you can get to the RAM inside the computer.
Unfortunately, it's possible to extract the Open Firmware password through other methods: mSec developed a Mac OS 9 tool called FWSucker after the introduction of Open Firmware simply to prove that it could be done. Apple restricted the use of the tool with Mac OS 9.2, and to date there is no corresponding Mac OS X native tool. However, it''s possible to extract the Open Firmware password from the nvRAM chip that holds all Open Firmware data on a Mac's motherboard. With that in mind, you should use managed preferences, Mac Manager settings or Mac OS X local user-access settings to restrict users to a list of known applications. That would help prevent users from running such a tool, should one be developed.

By the way, I would recommend against using FWsucker, and it probably wouldn't work anyway since Apple supposedly "blocks" it from running now.

  • Sdm and administrator password are different

    Hi,
We have Portal 7.0 EHP1 system which is being used for Java development and has ESS, MSS business packages installed.
The administrator password expired, so I changed through the browser whenrein it gave option to change.
While the SDM password is same as before.
So, now the administrator and SDM passwords are different, earlier they were same.
Will this create any issue? If yes, how to resolve it?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kunal.

    Hi Kunal,
To set the admin password permanent:
Open Offline Config Tool -> Switch to Configuration Editor Mode. Navigate to cluster_data -> server -> cfg -> services PropertySheet com.sap.security.core.ume.service
    Switch to edit mode
    open the propertysheet.
It will prompt you for a security warning, accept and proceed further.
Look for value ume.logon.security_policy.password_expire_days. The default value will be 90 days. Change it to custom value 999999 and save it. Restart the engine and your Administrator user password will not get expired.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Shyam.
