Default album artwork

When I add songs to my library that don't have artwork in the id3 tag (or anywhere else in the file) - I get a default album artwork on the left (not in the info-artwork), and it recently changed to a "pdf page" from a recent book I imported to ibook for my iphone.
I thought I remember seeing an option, somewhere in itunes, that was something like "reset default album artwork thumbnail". Can't find it now. Anyone know how to fix this, and what it was I might have seen?
Thanks

Here is the default artwork I'm talking about: This one is the "music note" on a black background, but I think there is also one with a white background that is used by itunes in certain views of the artwork.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

  • My iPod Nano 6th generation doesn't seem to recognize album artwork. I've downloaded the artwork manually, and I've even restored my iPod to defaults several times, but nothing works. Does anyone have a solution?

My iPod Nano 6th Generation is not picking up album artwork. On several of my tracks, it recognizes the album art, but it doesn't seem to recognize the others. I've tried uploading the artwork onto several albums manually, I've cleared the downloaded artwork to download them again, I've even restored the iPod to its default settings...nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have a solution to this

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on anoterh computer to help determine if you have an iPod or computer problem.

  • No Album Artwork in "Album View"

I recently upgraded to the iPhone OS 3.1 for the iPod Touch...
and now when I'm in "Album View", seemingly random album artwork appears white, as though there is literally no image. (there is no default music symbol, its just blank)
(this does not occur when playing the albums, or in cover flow, the artwork is there)
I have done everything I can think of, short of wiping the device and starting all over again.
    Please Help ? ?

    Hi,
This is just a suggestion, and since I don't have the 3.1 OS update, it may not help.
If you have albums on your iPod that had no artwork appied to them when you added the files (i.e. you added the artwork to the iTunes files after you copied the files to the iPod) - then I'd suggest deleting the problem files from the iPod and re-adding them.
My experience that itunes won't normally update artwork, and other information of files on the iPod during a sync. - You have to re-add the files to get the desired effect.
I hope that information is useful.
    Kind regards,
    Peter.

  • How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album

How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album as some of the songs do not have the artwork, as with the previous version of itunes you had to load artwork individually.
I have tried the copy and paste option and that does not work
Look forward to hearing from you

"How do i copy album artwork to all the songs in an album as some of the songs do not have the artwork, as with the previous version of itunes you had to load artwork individually."
That suggests some underlying issue, as iTunes has always (AFAIR) allowed artwork to be assigned with multiple tracks in a single action.  For an album, right-click on the album, select Get Info, select the Artwork tab.  You then have three options:
If the artwork image exists as a file, click the Get Artwork button, browse to and select the file, then click Open.
Drag and drop the image file from Windows Explorer to the Artwork tab (previous releases also allowed drag and drop from a web browser, this functionality is missing - either by design or as the result of a bug - in iTunes 12).
If you've copied the artwork image to the clipboard, press Ctrl-V on the keyboard to paste in the image (prior to the 1st release of iTunes 12 this could also be done using right-click > Paste - hopefully this will be restored as a bug-fix in the next update)
"I have tried the copy and paste option and that does not work."
There are three possible causes for this:
The format of your media files doesn't support embedded artwork - specifically, uncompressed audio in WAV format.  You'll need to convert to Apple Lossless (without loss of quality) or either MP3 or AAC (if you're OK with lossy media) before artwork images can be associated with your media.
Windows' permissions are preventing your media files from being updated when iTunes attempts to embed the images (in a perfect world iTunes should report this as an error, but it actually does nothing).  To check this, find the folder that contains media of interest in Windows Explorer (by default this will be C:\Users\user_name\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\artist_name\album_name), right-click and select Properties, Security tab - check that your Windows user account has full control over the folder.
The media files that you're trying to add artwork to may be set to read-only in Windows. Select the folder as before in Windows Explorer, right-click > Properties and make sure that the Read-only flag is cleared.

  • Remove Album Artwork from iPod

I recently had to reset my iPod. Previously, I attempted to maximize my available space on my 2 GB iPod by changing settings to do not show my album artwork. I went to edit, preferences and clicked on music as the on-line instructions indicated. I could not find the option to turn off my artwork. It seems like before my reset, my iPod would hold approx 500 songs. Now is holds less than 400. Is this because of the artwork?

    Hello NationwideGA,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There used to be an option from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes that allow you to choose whether or not you wanted to include artwork on your iPod. However, as of iTunes 9, this option is no more and the default is that artwork is included on your iPod.
So now the only way to remove all the artwork from your iPod is to remove it from each of your tracks in iTunes and I'm not exactly sure that is something you want to do. Even if you did, it wouldn't free up a significant amount of space on your iPod overall. At best a very small fraction a percentage.
Not sure why you can only sync fewer songs now, but have you tried restoring your iPod yet?

  • Don't wanna album artworks keep floating on the main menu

Is there any way to disable album artworks keep floating on the main menu of iPod classic?
I think Apple should give us a choice to disable this function with next iPod firmware update.
Some album artworks I don't want to show up there. And the key point is, the resolution of all my album artworks are 200 x 200. It is really enough for my 5G iPod video. But for my new iPod classic, all artworks would be force to enlarge the size for floating on the main menu like screensaver, and they look really crap.
And I think those new default icons on iPod classic are really nice and that's what I prefer to show

Given the resolution you've got them at, the other occurances of them in the UI - like CoverFlow and album art when a track is playing - also probably look not great.
Turn of the option of synching them completely via the Music tab for the iPod in iTunes. Gets rid of the issue completely - and as you say leaves more useful icons in some places.

  • When I listen to a song, all I can see is the album artwork!

Earlier today, I must've pressed something on the iPod to put it into a mode where I can only see the album artwork when I listen to a song - or even worse, if it doesn't have one, it's just a blank square. A while ago I read about some way to put it like this, but I can't remember what it was or how to reverse it. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried pressing the middle button to cycle views? There is one view that is similar to how you describe, although it only lasts a few seconds and I wasn't aware you could use that view by default.
You could also trying restoring your iPod.
    Good Luck!

  • Set default grid artwork for composer grid view

As the title I wanted to know if there is a way to set default grid artwork for composer grid view.
    Thanks.

Nope. It is the first image from the first track of the first album that has artwork. As you move your pointer over the icon you will get any other images assoicated with that composer.

  • ITunes fetching default album art from installed iOS app

    Hello,
Whenever I import an MP3 file (by dragging it from Finder) with -no- embeded artwork into iTunes I'd expect this to be added with the default double quaver album artwork.
However the default artwork is instead taken from an iPad/iPhone app from my iTunes library! iTunes was assigning the icon from the World Atlas app, I removed this app, tried importing the MP3 file again and iTunes instead assigned the icon from a differrent app.
This happens with -all- MP3 files with no embedded artwork. MP3 files with embedded artwork are fine, with iTunes using the correct artwork from the file.
It seems iTunes has somehow lost the double quaver (I suppose it's still in iTunes/Contents/Packages somewhere) from a cache? But clearing this cache may not be a solution as, as I mentioned before when I delete the app from where iTunes assigns its image, it then proceeds to get the image from -another- app.
MP3 files with no embedded artwork show the double quaver fine in Finder.
Does anybody have any ideas on this?
    Thanks very much in advance.

I've read it, and I'm not a legal person, so if you want to be sure you need to contact MS support or a legal expert, but my take is this:
    - The mass download doesn't conflict with the TOU, just as long as it's an end user initiating the mass downloads. Once agents, robots, scripts and spiders initiate a mass download you are violating the TOU.
    - Copy, store, cache is allowed assuming the end user has a valid subscription.
but the sample they gave with fetching data does not check for the user subscription, it checks for my developer subscription...
I contacted microsoft directly...let's hope they answer soon...I will post their answer here...
I can use the API as long as I put the "available on xbox music" badges on the album art as well

  • Downloading Album Artwork

I went to the manuals to figure out how to get the album artwork onto my ipod. It said to go to ipod nano in the sources, (where is that?). I went to my ipod in devices since I didn't know where that was. Then it said to click on the music tab and click show album artwork. I didn't have an option to add album artwork, only "sync ipod". How can I do this?!

    Hello Uncomputersavvy,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The option specified in your iPod's *User Guide* was officialy removed with the release of iTunes 9 a couple of months back and hasn't returned since. Anyhow, as long as the artwork is in your iTunes library, it should sync automatically to your iPod regardless. Your iPod's artwork db or cache may be corrupt. A good way to resolve this usually is to restore the iPod via iTunes. Keep in mind this procedure will erase all content from the iPod and set it back to its original default settings. For now we'll start with that. Hope it helps.

I am having to recreate my itunes library and do not understand why prior album artwork appeared in my older library but not the new library?  Is there some way to scan itunes for missing album artwork?

do you have a strongly recommended default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - you have unchecked that option?
It sounds like you have a referenced library and are now experiancing one of the very siginificant drawbacks of a referenced library and one of the many reasons they are strongly not recommended
Also note that iPhoto '11 may use alises in the originals folder as part of the upgrade
It is important that we understand exactly what you have and what is not sorking - what error messages you are getting
You must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure of content of the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it  --  and you can not rebuild yoru librtary - only iPhoto ir iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  can rebuild a library unless you are a SQL programmer and understand the structure that iPhoto uses

  • Mising Album Artwork

Over the last few weeks I've noticed some of my album artwork disappearing from my iPod Touch. At first it was one album gone but now it's about eight. There isn't even the default iTunes black and silver cover, just empty space.
The bug (if that's what it is) seems to affect both artwork from iTunes and artwork from the net.
I've tried everything I can think of including deleting the artwork and then re-inserting it. I haven't tried doing a full reset of my iPod, I'd rather leave that as a last resort because I don't want to have all my apps reset.

    I have using an iPod Touch since January 2009 and I have noticed that since I have installed OS 3.0 on my 2nd Generation Touch and upgrade iTunes to the latest versions, that when I sync album artwork has started to disappear, this happens with the following configuration;
    - ripped CDs where iTunes automatically locates the artwork
    - ripped CDs where I go off and find the artwork on the Internet and then add it to every track in the album
I find that initially the artwork gets copied across fine and then the second time that I sync (copying across more music) a random album that was copied across before gets removed. I know all the artwork is appearing in iTunes, as I go into the 'Get Info' on a particular track and it shows up fine - so I know it is added to the MP3 file.
I don't get this issue with music that I download from iTunes, it is just off of CDs that I rip. Does anyone know if Apple has any plans to resolve this? I don't particularly want to reset the iPod or delete the troublesome files.
    Many thanks in advance

  • Cannot set default grid artwork

    Hi all,
I right click on an artist and set the default grid to a particular artwork but as soon as I take my mouse away from the artist, the artwork reverts back to the original. So, basically the default is never set.
    Some one on this?
    Thank you!

  • Advanced Album Artwork issues

Is it possible to add ADDITIONAL artwork to MULTIPLE files? I see how to add an additional cover etc to a single file, but i cannot seem to get it to work with more than one at once, as it overwrites the previous artwork on all files.
For a single song, this is done by opening the songs info, and clicking the add button (which is slow and requires browsing to the image). If you try to just drag the file into the window, it overwrites whatever image is already in there. Is this supposed to happen? Furthermore, on some songs, regardless of which method i use, and regardless of if i have the previous picture selected or de-selected, it overwrites it. How can i notify apple of this? I found a contact customer service button but all of its subjects are related to other things. Am i doing something wrong?

    {quote}Is it possible to add ADDITIONAL artwork to MULTIPLE files?{quote}
Yes. Instead of doing "Get info" on the songs, do this:
    1. From the "View" menu, select "Show Artwork"
    2. If the text above the artwork window reads "Now Playing", click the text once to change it to "Selected Item"
    3. Select all the tracks you want to add artwork to.
    4. Drag the picture into the artwork window. This artwork will be added; it won't overwrite existing artwork.
    {quote}also, another question that just came up. i realized that artwork automatically downloaded by iTunes from the store is NOT embedded into the song file's tag. Since this is the case, where are the downloaded covers stored on the computer?{quote}
You are correct -- it is not embedded in the tag. I suppose they did this to save space, because typically you only need one copy of the artwork on your hard drive for a whole album.
The artwork is stored in your iTunes Music folder (by default it is My Documents\My Music\iTunes) in the "Album Artwork" folder. However, these are stored in an proprietary format. Some image viewers will open the files, but not all.
You can save the image to a file by simply dragging the artwork from the artwork window to any Windows Explorer window (including the Desktop).
For multiple files, you can use a java program jpegextractor to extract the images
    http://schmidt.devlib.org/software/jpeg-extractor.html
Or if you can program, you can use the iTunes COM interface to save the artwork to a file.
    EDIT:
If you want to embed the iTMS artwork into the ID3 tag, you can use a program I wrote to do it. Go here:
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/index.html
and click the download button. Extract the ZIP (teridonsitunesscripts.zip) somewhere, and run "teridonsitunesscripts.exe".
In the window that appears, select "itunesinsertartwork" and click "Run Selected Script".
A new cmd prompt window will appear, listing all your playlists. Select the Library playlist by typing "1" (or, if for some reason you only want to do some tracks, choose another playlist) and hit enter. The program will automatically embed iTMS artwork into the ID3 tag.
The forum TOS requires me to say: "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link" because I have a paypal donation link on my webpage, but the program is free (donation totally optional)
