Default artboard size problem

In Illustrator CS2 I am converting CAD files (typically dxf's) to EPS's scaled to fit on an 8.5" x 11" artboard. I generate these files in AutoCAD and lately, the DXF's will open in Illy by default on a 22" x 64" artboard. I use this size occasionally for a different project but I need this artboard size to default to letter portrait instead. I've checked the AutoCAD layout manager and it is also set to letter size. Somehow when either exporting or saving a 22" x 64" file, I managed to force Illy to change it's default artboard size. I have double checked my startup files and the document set up is 8.5" x 11". My page size is also set to letter and I have not edited my PPD file. New AI files still open to my start up file's specifications. I'm guessing this is either a glaringly obvious oversight on my part or a glich. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

  • Java 1.4.2 default cache size problems

    Hello all -
    I am delivering panoramic image Virtual Travel® tours via Flash and the Java PTviewer applet, e.g. http://www.taj-mahal.net
    We want to deliver much larger & "full screen" panoramas as well. This all works fine on PCs (sigh), but not on Macs.
    On the Mac, I am seeing hanging" during loading of panos, and traced this to the fact that Windows typically has a 60 MB Java cache. I thought this was the same for Mac, but ....
    I note that my Java 1.4.2 Plug-In Control Panel shows that only 50 MB is allocated. Since I have not adjusted this, I wonder...
    a) Is the default Java cache for Mac OSX set a 50 MB after installation? Would most typical Mac users then have only 50 MB of Java cache?
    b) Is there a user-friendly way to adjust the Java cache size up to 60 MB on the Mac? Some application or AppleScript or some such? If so, I can post an error message when (poor) Mac users try to view our large panoramas.
    ( I want to avoid trying to explain how to find and use the Java Plug-In control panel.... )
    Thanks for your help !

    Where does that prerequisite come from?
    On linux x86, Oracle provides the j2se jdk/jre for OracleAS itself, meaning OracleAS Forms & Reports services 9.0.4 does not require you to install a JDK. I think that actually the requirement is that you should not install any JDK. Of course, some other software might require you to install 1.4.2 java sdk.
    You can find the AS 9.0.4 docu libraries here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/appserver10g.html
    (see docu library B13597_05, Platform tab for installation guides)

  • Default paper size problems

    Recently upgraded to Lion OS X (all software updates installed).
    It doesn't seem to matter which application I'm in (outlook, office for mac, firefox, adobe, etc), and how many presets I save and set up - every time I print the application thinks I am printing on US Legal sized paper. But I only have US Letter (as the printer's defaults selections say (in System Preferences)).
    It means Every Time I want to print I have to go in and change it to US Letter from US Legal, and if I forget it cuts off the printing making the printing unusable. Is there not somewhere centrally I can save this once and for all??
    It also means when I try and print double-sided I get an error message saying: "The Two-sided option, Long-edge binding, is not available when the destination paper size is set to US Legal."
    But when I look at the default print settings in System Preferences it clearly says:
    Default Printer: HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a
    Defailt paper size: US Letter
    - I'm not sure where else to tell the printer that I Do Not Have Any US Legal Sized Paper!
    I have an: HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer - A909a.
    Can anyone help please?!

    Hello Sawest,
    Thanks for the post.  With this one, the Apple Links were provided for the post above yours.  It sounds like either your default printer has been changed in XP or removed, especially since you indicated you lost your ability to scan.  As far a re-installation, sound like a good idea based on your description of the printers behavior.  Yes, depending on which model of printer that you have and operating system, you can locate drivers that can be downloaded and installed to get you back and running again.  Locate your printer model and then go here:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html
    Plug in you model and go to software and drivers, choose your OS and then you can see what is available for download.  I hope this helps, Good Luck!
    I worked for HP but my posts and replies are my own....Thank you!

  • Default paper size scanning problem, LaserJet M1120n MFP

    Hi, I just got a used LaserJet M1120n MFP. Installed the most up-to-date drivers form HP's website. Printing is fine over USB or LAN, however the WIA scanning driver defaults to paper size "Letter" and I can't scan A4 pages all the way. The bottom is always cut off and I get an unwanted strip besides the scanned document. Please, advise how to change the default paper size of the WIA driver to A4. I use Windows XP Pro. Looked everywhere but cannot find any settings that will allow me to change the default paper size. Any ideas?
    I have been thinking, could default paper size be somehow be tied to system locale? My locale is European and all other device drivers do default to A4. I wonder how the WIA scanning driver chose to default to Letter size.
    The TWAIN driver works fine (I can choose default paper size), though it is less intuitive than I expected. Too bad I can't use it over a LAN. Is there a way to calibrate the scanner for white as the background seems kind of dark?
    Your suggestions and ideas are most appreciated. Thank you.

    Thanks for the reply, Spencer. I have used Adobe Acrobat to scan by means of the WIA driver, but when I do so the paper size selection box is dimmed (inactive) and I can't choose any paper size (nor any is preselected). I have also used Win XP's native Scanner and Camera Wizzard; it doesn't even have a paper size setting. Then I have used it with Win 7's native Windows Fax and Scan; no paper size setting here either.
    Here is a useful thread on the same issue from Adobe's forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/844549
    Reading around the forums I came across several posts where people discussed the impossibiity to set paper size when scanning using the WIA driver. Their problem was a bit different, though. The WIA driver had locked to size 'Legal' while they needed to scan in size 'Letter'.
    The WIA interface was developed by Microsoft and here is what they have to say about the issue:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff548440%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
    'Supported Scanner Paper Sizes
    Although two WIA user interface components are able to display a list of page sizes to the user, there is no easy way for a WIA driver to know which page sizes a scanner supports.
    Page Size in WIA Applications
    There are no WIA properties that allow WIA drivers to report supported page sizes or that allow applications to specify page size directly. To communicate page size settings to a driver, an application must calculate the required size in dots per inch (dpi) and adjust the origin of the scan to conform with the registration requirements of the device.
    Page Size in the Common Scanner Dialog and in the Scanner and Camera Wizard
    Both the Common Scanner Dialog and the Scanner and Camera Wizard have a static table of supported page sizes in which each page size is described by its horizontal width and vertical height, both in increments of 0.001 inch. These page sizes are currently displayed only when the scanner is in document feeder mode.
    The largest page size (by area) that a driver supports in page feed mode, as determined by the maximum bed size, is considered the default page size. Paper sizes that do not fit on the feeder or on the bed of the device are not offered to the user.'  -- exactly my case!
    Having tried the same WIA driver (developed by HP in this case) on several PC's running different WIndows OS and using non-US locale settings, I have came to the conclusion that HP may have hard coded the Letter paper size in the driver. I guess this works for North America but not in Europe where A4 is the standard size.
    I guess I have to look into ways to get to that hard coded paper size setting in order to be able to make use of the driver. I don't even know if that will be possible but I'll keep on reading. Wish me luck

  • Illustrator Artboard Size Restrictions

    I have a project where I need to need a huge artboard bigger than the default size illustrator gives you.
    We are designing huge custom maps for a client and also use some illustrator map plugins which we use to do some extra stuff, but we can only work within the artboard.
    Is there any way round this, to increase the artboard size?  This is going to cause us a huge problem if we cant.
    It is not a typical project where I can export into everything into photoshop and scale or print to scale as its a map and we need to do all the work within illustrator to size,
    Please advise
    Thanks in advance

    I really need to have an unlimited artboard.  I have made it the maximum size, but really need to have it about 6 times the size.
    I cant understand why illustrator would restrict you too 227 inches.  Its a massive issue for us on this big project we are working on.
    Is there any plans to increase the artboard past this or ways round this?  I have seen lots of others request this feature and other vector sofware I have seen have unlimited artboard sizes

  • How to change the default font size in X11?

    I was a PC/linux user and have switched to use Mac lately (MBP Snow leopard 10.6.8).
    Everything's been running perfectly on Mac so far and I really like it, until I have to run some programs on XQuartz/X11 (XQuart 2.7.0).
    The default font size in the Xterm is too small. And I hate it that I have to change it everytime i open a new terminal (via vt fonts menu, ctrl+right-mouse click).
    Is there a way to change the default font size "permanently" in XQuartz/X11 ??
    This may be a stupid question to ask in the developer forum but i cant really solve it.
    There's only config. file ~/.Xdefaults they have mentioned so far on Google but i really cant find it regarding to the directorty.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    You would be surprised to find out that is not like this, to get your account blocked you really need to do a lot of damage and posts are not removed unless they are illegal, and *always* it needs more than a person to delete something. That's a site managed by the community, not by some people put in place by a company.
    It is always acceptable to link to external resources as long these resources do provide additional usefull information. Clearly the thread on that side contained much more information than the one here. I observed people linking from there to this forum, but it's not so common, and that's not due to the policy, just because here is more chat and less usefull information.... you will not see endless threads of replies on with "yes, I have the same problem" there.
    Shortly, this is "discussions" and is quite different in approach than the SE model, where everythign is aimed towards getting the be answers UP and removing all the nonsense.
    I wish that Apple would invest more in discussion, and going towards making this more practical.

  • Default paper size in page setup

    I have 3 different printers, each with specific paper sizes. My HP C3180 uses letter size only. My HP Officejet pro K850 uses tabloid (ledger) size only. My Toshiba e-studio 20s has a tray for letter and another for tabloid. My problem is that when I set the default paper size in page setup, it changes the paper size for all three printers! How do I set a different default paper size for each individual printer?

    Thanks. I'm really disappointed that apple had to dumb-down Leopard. It really makes it difficult to use my macs in the office. I hate to say it, but score one for the PC on this one. I'm really frustrated, and this will definitely affect future purchases (Apple, did you hear that?)
    Thank you.

  • MTU Size Problem Loading Certain Webpages

    Hello Colleagues,
    I'm having a strange problem dealing with MTU sizes and loading certain webpages. I am aware of the default Microsoft MTU of 1500 and also using GRE IPSEC Tunnels recommended at MTU size 1400. I have since manually set some users PC's to MTU of 1400 and most of those users are experiencing no issues. However, there are a few users who still experience website loading issues even though I have manually changed their MTU size to 1400.

    UPDATE
    I have since applied the following config to the tunnel interfaces:
    ip mtu 1400
    ip tcp adjust-mss 1400
    tunnel path-mtu-discovery
    This worked and I was able to reset each users PC to default MTU size of 1500, but only until just now. I got a call from a user who explained that he wasn't able to reach some websites, again.
    Sure enough, I've just confirmed that all of the users are unable to access the websites any longer.
    This is crazy, does anyone have any ideas?

  • Can Reader pick up the Default Page Size of a printer that is not the Windows Default Printer?

    We have a web based application that generates PDF documents via Crystal Reports.
    We are using Adobe Reader 8
    The PDF pages are displayed within an Internet Explorer window where the the users then print the document.
    The application is designed so the user only gets one chance to print the document (ie they cant come back and change printer settings if they happen to print the document out incorrectly)
    The document needs to be printed on A3 paper, full duplex.
    We have a printer set-up decidated to the printing of the documents generated by this application.  The default page size of this printer is set of A3.
    If we set this dedicated printer as the Windows Default Printer we have no problems at all.  The default page size (A3) is picked up and the document is printed correctly.
    If any other printer is set as the Windows Default Printer (eg one that has a default page size of A4), the users must obviously select the correct printer from the Print Dialogue Box -however when the user selects the dedicated A3 printer, the page size remains as A4 (page size of the Windows Default Printer).  This means the user must remember to change the paper size to A3 each time.
    Out users find IT a struggle at the best of times - anything that makes the process simpler is very welcomed!
    Is there a way to ensure the default page size of the printer is respected when that printer is not the Windows Default Printer?
    Thanks!

    No.

  • Change default paper size on Preview when printing

    When I open the print window on Preview (ver 7.0) to print a .pdf file, the default paper size is always A4, which I never use; I use US Letter instead. Is there a way to change the default paper size to US Letter so I don't have to change it every time I print or forget completely? I tried looking under Preview preferences, but no luck.
    I use my MBP in the Japanese language (in Japan they use A4 as main paper size), but I live in the US. Is this the cause of this problem?

    Having the region set to Japan will have set the default to A4 but you can change it by opening Printers & Scanners and changing the setting "Default Paper Size" from A4 to US Letter.

  • Change default paper size to A4 Two Sided Margins

    My default paper size (System Preferences > Printers & Scanners) is currently set to A4.
    However, I think this is giving me problems when I try to print duplex (HP Photosmart 5520). If I select two-sided printing in the print dialog (from any application) I get an error saying that the margins have to be adjusted.
    I think this is preventing me from setting two-sided as the default, or even including it in presets. If I try to include it in a preset, next time I select the preset, two sided printing remains off.
    How can I change my default paper size to "A4, Two Sided Margins"? There is an option in the print dialog to change it (only for that current print job) but this particular paper size/margins is not available in System Preferences where you select the default paper size.
    Is there something I can install to make this option show up in System Preferences? Can I make a custom paper size for it?

    You may be able to change the defaults by following the instructions of PAHU in the thread linked below, but you're on your own as to the consequences.

  • Change default paper size

    I print from Firefox 34.0.5 under Windows Vista Home Premium to a Kyocera laser printer FS-C8520MFP.
    How can I change the default paper size in Firefox?
    The default paper size on the printer is A4 and this works fine on all other print originating software. But from Firefox it defaults to A3. I can and do change it each time I print, but that means going into properties and changing both paper size and layout. There must (surely!) be a default paper size setting in Firefox. Indeed, the fact that Firefox alone defaults to A3 indicates that there is such a Firefox default. Any offers?

  • Default page size - linux

    How does BDB 4.3.28 select the page size for a newly created database on Linux?
    I've been tracking down a lot of DB performance and resource issues that we've been hitting ever since we upgraded our Linux from 2.4.20 to 2.6.21. One big problem I've run into is that most of my databases are being created with a page size of 1K when running on Linux 2.6. On linux 2.4, they were all created with page sizes of 4K. I never explicitly set the page size before. In the code running on Linux 2.6, I'm explicitly setting the page size to 4K using the set_pagesize(4096) method which solves my immediate problem, but I still want to understand why the page sizes changed out from under me in the first place.

    It's based on the block size of the underlying file system. Unless Berkeley can't figure it out for some reason, the default page size should match the block size of the file system.
    For example, on my Solaris boxes if I create a DB on a UFS file system I'll get a default size of 8k. If I create it on a ZFS file system, it's 16k.

  • Default page size for printing

    Is there a way to configure (i.e., specify non-programatically) the default page size to use when printing in Java? We have several JREs installed on a single Solaris machine. It seems that all but the one that came installed with the OS defaults to a an ISO-A4 page size.
    I wrote a test program (see end of post) and compiled using a 1.2.2 JDK. Here are some results:
    $ /usr/java/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.2.2
    Page size: 612.0 x 792.0 pts
    $ /opt/java-packages/jre-1.4.0_04-solaris-i586/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.4.0_04
    Page size: 595.0 x 842.0 pts
    $ /opt/java-packages/jre-1.4.2_08-solaris-i586/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.4.2_08
    Page size: 595.0 x 842.0 pts
    $ /opt/jre-1.5.0_04-solaris-i586/bin/java -cp . PrintPageFormat
    Java version: 1.5.0_04
    Page size: 595.2755813598633 x 841.8897399902344 pts
    I've searched the Internet, but cannot find how to go about setting the default page size for a JRE. I've opened a ticket with Sun, and was told you can't do this other than programatically. It seems unreasonable that I would have to recompile my existing applications just to get them to work correctly under newer JREs. Is Sun's response to my ticket correct???
    Thanks in advance!

    ============================================================
    import java.awt.print.*;
      public class PrintPageFormat
          public static void main(String[] args)
              PrinterJob pj = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
              PageFormat pf = pj.defaultPage();
              double w = pf.getWidth();
              double h = pf.getHeight();
              String version = System.getProperty("java.version");
              System.out.println("    Java version: " + version);
              System.out.println("    Page size: " + w + " x " + h + " pts");
      }

    This problem was fixed by setting the locale variable LC_CTYPE to "C" or "en_US". The JREs 1.4.0 and above deployed on our Linux and Solaris environments all have the system property 'java.awt.printerjob' set to 'sun.print.PSPrinterJob'. This is a subclass of sun.print.RasterPrinterJob which in turn is a subclass of java.awt.print.PrinterJob. So, PSPrinterJob is the actual class of the PrinterJob returned by PrinterJob.getPrinterJob(). Looking at the code of RasterPrinterJob:
            /* Default to A4 paper outside North America.
            String defaultCountry = Locale.getDefault().getCountry();
            if (!Locale.getDefault().equals(Locale.ENGLISH) && // ie "C"
                defaultCountry != null &&
                !defaultCountry.equals(Locale.US.getCountry()) &&
                !defaultCountry.equals(Locale.CANADA.getCountry())) {
                double mmPerInch = 25.4;
                w = Math.rint((210.0*ptsPerInch)/mmPerInch);
                h = Math.rint((297.0*ptsPerInch)/mmPerInch);
                newPaper.setSize(w, h);
                newPaper.setImageableArea(ptsPerInch, ptsPerInch,
                                          w - 2.0*ptsPerInch,
                                          h - 2.0*ptsPerInch);
            }This should have been fairly obvious. Java's locale settings depend on the platform's locale settings (i.e., LC_ variables in this case), and then the default page size is determined (or actually altered) based on that.
    I'm kicking myself for not figuring this out much sooner. I would hope Sun is, too! (not me, themselves)
