Default burner?

i just purchased a new G-5 tower w/superdrive.
I also have a Lacie DVD Burner.
My IDVD will not burn to my inhouse Burner, but will only recognise my external Lacie.
Is there any way to make it recognize my Apple burner. It's still under warranty and I would like to use it first.

  • Changing Recovery's Default Burning Device

Hello, my OEM drive recently died on my and I am trying to burn recovery discs with another drive I have installed. Unfortunately HP Recovery Disc Creation is only attempting to search for a blank cd/dvd in the dead drive. I have already changed the windows settings so that the new and alive drive is set to the default but alas HP Recovery is still attempting to use the old one.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to trick HP Recovery into using the new drive I have installed?
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on Hp Pavilion Elite HPE - 150T if this helps.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • In FCX I need to burn a DVD that will be either a Region 0 or Region 2 per a festival requirement- what Region does FCX default burn to?

Hello!  I need to burn DVDs from FCX that are going to London - they are asking that they be Region 0 or Region 2 - what is the default Region that FCX burns to so that I know I am burning it to the correct region?  I need it to play when it gets there - this is a film festival submission - Thanks!

Region coding is largely a dead concept.  Most better DVD players will play any region.

  • Switch Default Burner Drive?

Does anyone know how to change the default location of the CD burner...itunes sends the burn request to a CD burner drive that does not work and I don't know how to change it to my new HP external DVD/CD burner (called the H drive)

I would like to know as well. You'd think that would be a simple menu operation, like in Toast...

  • Can you change default burn output in DVDSP?

    Hi All
I got a dual layer external burner (lacie D2) for my G5 dual2 which has a single layer superdrive inside. I encoded the movie file with Compressor, imported the assets to DVDSP and clicked burn as i usually do. DVDSP spits out the superdrive tray and asks for some suitable media to be placed in there, as it normally does.
Q> How can I make DVDSP address the Lacie, when I click burn, instead of the G5 superdrive.?
    Cheers
    Jamie

    A> You can't
Although the drive on the computer opens as usual you should be able to open the external drive, insert a blank DVD, close it and *in theory DVDSP should burn it. OR if you already have a blank DVD in the External drive before you try to burn in DVDSP then when you click burn your internal drive should not even open. If you have a blank DVD in the internal drive and a blank DVD in the External drive then DVDSP will burn a DVD onto the internal drive. I'm not %100 sure but try it out!
Another alternative is to build the DVD in DVDSP and use Toast to format to the external drive. This is the preferred method since you can set the burn speed (DVDSP burns at the highest speed which increases the risk of burning coasters).
Something else you might of wanted to consider is acquiring a Dual-Layer internal drive...

  • Has Default DVD/CD Burn Speed Been Altered In Tiger?

I upgraded to Tiger 6 months ago but have been burning most of my DVDs in Toast.
I have just used the Mac's burning application and the window that opened gave a default burn speed of half the DVD's capability.
In Panther etc. the default burn speed was always "Maximum".
Why has it been changed in Tiger?
    Ian.

Leopard is required plus additional CD/DVD Sharing software from Apple. Not sure but you may also need an Intel Mac. This was a feature created for MacBook Air owners because the MBA does not have an optical drive of its own.

  • How to Make an External DVD Burner the Default

When I click "Burn" I'd like it to use my external burner instead of the built-in one. Is there a way to change the default burner? I was unable to figure out how.
The reason is because the PowerMac is located remotely from my station in a machine room, but the external burner is right next to me.

If you leave a CD, DVD, or some disc with data, in the internal drive, it should then use the external drive for burning. If you use good blank discs, such as Verbatim, there should be no reason to reduce the burning speed.

  • Default DVD Burner

I have just purchased and installed the CS3 versions of Premiere Pro and Encore. I have noticed that when I export a Premiere file for burning in Encore, the "wrong" burner is automatically selected in Encore. I say "wrong" because it is selecting a CD burner instead of my DVD burner. I cannot seem to find the setting for changing the default burner within Encore. Is is right in front of me or is it buried deep within the menu structure? TIA
    Dale

    To
Burn Error Proof DVDs (Well, close to error proof!)
Use the SLOWEST possible burn option your burner will allow in Encore, since it is much better to take a bit more time burning the disc than it is to burn "fast" and have a disc that won't play
Set the VIDEO portion of the transcoding options to a Maximum of 7,000 so your burned disc will have a better chance at playing in desktop players (which support burned discs, if at all, only as an "after thought" of the DVD specification)
Use AC3 or PCM audio transcode settings for best player compatibility (some discussion of MPEG audio not being supported by all players, especially for NTSC discs)
Buy and use Taiyo Yuden (or Verbatim?) brand blank discs

  • Blu-Ray player won't burn a disc. Error Code "0"

Hi all, haven't made the jump to CC so we are using CS6 for everything.
I just recently installed a SSD and deleted/fresh install of the CS6 suite onto the newly wiped internal HD. Everything works perfect, except Encore.
Encore is refusing to burn to a DVD. I have been using CS6 since it went public and I have never once had this issue for a Blu-Ray or a DVD. Now, it won't even recognize that a disc is in the burner. It keeps saying to put in a DVD or a Blu-Ray DVD, hit OK etc. I do this, repeatedly, to no avail. Now I have tried creating a Blu-Ray Image which works perfectly fine. However I couldn't get that Image to burn succesfully to a blu-ray. Now it burnt without an issue, (using windows default burner which may be the issue), but when put into the blu-ray player it is just a black image with no menus or anything.
Back to Encore, It will trans-code the files without incident, it's when it goes to the burning session it will not accept any disc I put in. This is for both a Blu-Ray and a regular DVD. I keep getting Error Code "0" or simply, "insert a blu ray or dvd media disc an hit OK". Occasionally I got "Adobe Encore Failed" and that is it. Not sure what to do. I've been trying to burn since this morning.
I gave in and bought Nero 2015 just now in the hopes I can burn the blu-ray image correctly. Do I have any other options as this needs to be done today as I have to be an event tomorrow.
    Thank you!
    Jason

Adding to that, I am not getting the message "The Device Is Not Ready" and you can hit Retry and endless number of times with no results. Or just cancel and then it says Building Failed. Thoughts?

  • Disk Utility won't burn with external dvd burner!!! HELP?!?!?!

    Hello anyone/everyone!
I need some help, I'm trying to burn a file using the disk utility. Only thing is that the disk utility wants to used the drive installed on my iBook (combo drive) and not my external DVD drive! I couldn't find a way to be able to chnage the default burner, and I was hoping that someone/anyone could help me out? The file is too large for a regular 800mb disk so I have to use the external dvd burner. Help me please oh wise-ones?!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Find out if the external burner is Patchburn compatible. If it is, then apply it from http://www.patchburn.de/
If not, I'd sell the external burner and get one that is compatible like those from http://www.macsales.com/
You may find other tricks on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ as well.

  • Error:  Burner is in use by another application

    Hi everyone!
I just tried to burn a CD for the first time in a while and receive an error stating that the "burner is in use by another application."  I have no other applications running at this time and am running iTunes 11.01.
Is there something that I am doing wrong or can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Feel free to purchase Toast at roxio.com.
I asked the question as in the Toast setup there is a dialog if you want to use Toast as your default burning program. If chosen it could possibly stop iTunes from burning. I am not sure if that is 100% correct but was offering ideas of where to look. Your update to 7.7.1 as you noted has cured the problem.

  • IDVD will not burn reliably at 8X,

    Dual G5, 512Mb, OS 10.4.2, iDVD 5
If I use 8X media, iDVD creates disk that will not play in other computers
or DVD players. Up until yesterday using disks from same batch and they
    would play fine in anything.
Now, it burns them and they sometimes play all right in the G5
but unreliably in other machines. If i create a disk image and use
Disk utility to burn at 4X, the(8X media) Disk is reliable and plays in all
    computers and players.
If i use a 4X media DVD in iDVD, these play well also,
I've been reading the Apple Knowledge base documnetation and the
most sensible thing is to reduce the burn speed when burning a DVD-R.
How can i set the default burn speed in iDVD, or in the system to 4X?
to clarify, it burns ok at maximum (i am assuming 8x) but playback on
    other machines is unreliable.
if i burn at a lower speed, a reliable disk results.

I've also had bad luck burning anything over 4X on both my PowerMac and PowerBook. I have a Pioneer DVR-103 in my PowerMac and Matshita UJ-815 in my PowerBook. Recently, I bought an external firewire LaCie D2 drive and have had success burning 16X Verbatim DVD-R disks.
Maybe its a drive related problem. Don't know what internal drive you have, but maybe newer drive versions work better. Another issue is that its getting hard for me to find 4X DVD-R disks at my local computer store. Now that I've had success with 16X disks on the LaCie, I don't use my other drives anymore.
    Hope this helps.

  • I get "medium write error" when trying to burn cds

I tried to burn a playlist from iTunes and it burned one copy, then when I tried to burn a second copy my computer made alot of noise during the "initializing/finishing" stage, spit the cd out and said "medium write error" - i've tried another cd, and tried burning another playlist with the same results. Any idea what's wrong or if there is anything I can do about it???
    Thanks

First, try quitting all other applications except iTunes.
Second, try burning at a slower rate.
Then try a different brand/batch of CDs.
I believe the default burn setting is 'as fast as possible'.
Today I got perfect results at 20x or slower on my mid-2007 Core2Duo MacBook SuperDrive, and about 1 out of 3 at 24x and faster with a major brand name media labeled 'up to 52x'.
Yeah, it takes a little more time to burn each disc, but if you only have a 50% success rate with a faster speed, you're not really saving any time.
The reason I suggest quitting all other applications is that heavy CPU use seems to diminish my burn success rate on all of my computers, including the Windows boxes. Your mileage may vary.

  • Burning using Disk Untility

Marc, welcome, first I must say that I have not tried this but it should give you the same results.
Open Disk Utility, go up to Images and scroll down to New, then to Image from Folder.... (assuming the files are in a folder if not select a Device). Now from the opened window navigate to the folder then select Open. In the Save As box name the Image, at Image Format below choose DVD/CD master, now a .cdr image with that name will be created and appear in the right hand column of the Disk Utility window.
Now open SuperDuper and in the Source box scroll to Disk Image, navigate to your .cdr image, now select your DVD icon to the target box.
Now you should be able to clone the .cdr file to the DVD in the external.
