Default Calendar Alert setting

I have seen an old archived post on this topic, but nothing recently.  I have just missed another appointment because when I enter a new appointment in Calendar it does not automatically set a reminder as default.  There seems to be no way of changing this at all.  I am just used to other applications where I have that set and never have to bother about it at all.  So I forget.  I Synch to a pc running Outlook 2010 (which does have this feature) but synching does not resolve the issue.  Am I missing anything?

Unless I am missing something in your post - the setting is under Preferences on the "General" pane.
But, I have issues with it.  It is a single default for ANY event or appointment, all-day or not.  So, I have it set for 5 minutes... and if I set an all day event, it is set to 11:55pm the day before.
Anyway, better than no alarms.
Also - it sets the default to "Message with Sound" instead of "Message".  I have found that "Message with Sound" does not push nicely to my google calendar (which is what I use primarily), but "Message" does synch up with the google calendar.... same with my iPhone.
Hope that helps

  • TS3999 how can I change the DEFAULT calendar on my iCloud? I set it to Yahoo by mistake..

When I set up my iCloud calendar system, I did not know what "default" calendar to set and it set it to "Yahoo"
automatically. I would like to change that. Does anybdy know how?

Thank you. What I found in settings was that I could go to Yahoo (not iCloud) and "uncheck" the "calendar" option for that account. This allowed me to default to the calendar I wished to use, instead.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • IOS 7 Calendar alerting for past events

Has anyone else experienced this ...
At 9:30 this morning (03-Oct) I got an alert for an event from last week (26-Sep).
Then at 10:00 I got an alert for another event from last week (26-Sep).
Upon examining the events, I saw the alerts set as:
    9:30 event – alert 1 = one week before
    10:00 event – alert 1 = 1 day before, alert 2 = 1 week before
After upgrading to iOS7 I set the default calendar alert to "1 week before" – that might explain why the second event's alert 2 is set earlier than alert 1.
But it doesn't explain the "you were supposed to be doing this last week" alert popping up.
Any thoughts (other than some date arithmetic gone awry)?

iPilot1 - after I upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 I got an even bigger surprise - the default alert time for any new event I created was "7 days after". I kid you not. At the top of the list of options, before "None".
However I just went back to the Calendar settings to check the default alert time, and nothing was ticked.
I chose "1 week before", and Hey Presto, new events default to "1 week before".
Of course, I won't know this has worked for sure until I get an alert.

  • Help with Calendar Alerts

I use Google calendar synced to my Apple devices (MacBook Pro, iPad 2, iPhone 4s).  The default calendar alerts from the Google calendar itself seem to dominate any attempt I make to change alerts on any devices.
Any time I try to change an alert time, it immediately reverts back to the default alert from Google.  This is starting to **** me off and it makes me think that Apple is trying to discourage the use of Google calendar.  I would hope not... Any help?

    I have the same issue.
There was another posting saying that alerts could be turned off in Gmail.  But my goal is not to shut down alerts, but to have the default alerting be "none" and to be able to manually set an alert in those special cases where the event warrants one.
    Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

  • Can't Silence Calendar Alerts

I can't get alerts in iCal to silence. I've turned to "off" the "Calendar Alerts" option in the "Sounds" settings, but to no avail. I use a lot of alerts in iCal on my notebook, which is fine when I'm using my notebook, but I'd rather not have alerts sounding on my iPhone (most of the time). I used to think that only those iCal events that were synced from my notebook were the ones that would sound, but tests show that events created on my iPhone are also oblivious to the Calendar Alerts/Off setting. Searching this forum reveals that this has been a problem since a posting in late July, but 1.1.1 didn't fix it. Does anyone know how to make this feature work? Thanks. (Oh, and if the "Calendar Alerts" setting doesn't turn off calendar alerts, what does it do?)

Yes, this is driving me crazy. And it's only recent, for me. In other words, it had always vibrated as a calendar alert; I could live with that. Now it's vibrating and chirping too, even though sounds are set to OFF. I've submitted a bug report and encourage everyone to. And if anyone has figured out how to disable this, please let me know. iPhones should be seen and not heard, unless I say otherwise

  • Disable calendar alerts and it keeps alerting

Settings--->Sounds--->Calendar Alerts - set to OFF
It just keeps right on alerting.
This is a new problem. It's never happened before today that I can remember. Most of the time the phone is in another room but today, I'm traveling and it's by the nightstand as my alarm clock.

When in doubt, try the age-old-proven remedy of resetting the iPhone. Press and hold both the sleep button on the top and the home button. Usually a reset will rectify most situations.

  • How do I set the default time for calendar alerts?

How do I set the default time for calendar alerts? I always want to have an alert 15 minutes before my appointments. I don't want to have to manually set it each time I make an appointment (I just moved to iphone from a windows mobile where this was basic stuff so I apologise if this is a noob question).

I have the same issue. I've searched these forums and found lots of people who have asked this same question, but nobody who has received an answer.
About a year ago, I migrated from a Windows PC and a Blackberry (both of which had very simple default alert options) to a MacBook Pro and an iPhone and have yet to find a solution on this forum or from any of my Apple-savvy friends. Very discouraging.

  • My calendar defaualra, My calendar defaults to alerts even if they are not set...

My calendar on my I phone defaults to alerts.

The server session and cache will not hold onto object using NoIdentityMap.
In general we don't recommend using NoIdentityMap because of loss of object identity, and prefer using an isolated cache to disable caching, but neither should produce a memory leak. You should also be able to use a weak or even soft cache without memory issues.
It seems that something else in your application may be holding onto these objects. I would recommend using a memory profiler such as JProfiler to determine the root cause.
What version of TopLink are you using? There were some memory issues fixed with respect to UnitOfWork object being held by queries that were fixed. Verify you are using the latest patch release.

  • How do you stop calendar alerts from setting themselves on iOS 7?

After my upgrade to iOS 7, my wife's gmail calendar items on my iPhone now all have alerts set for 5 minutes before the event.  In Gmail, the none of her events have alerts set.  I'd like that to be how my iPhone shows them.  I have tried to fix by deleting her calendar account and re-adding.  Didn't work.  I didn't have this problem before the upgrade to iOS 7.  Events without reminders in gmail should not have reminders on my iPhone, right?  I have the default alert time set to 5 minutes, but that should only control new calendar items, right?  On my work calendar, event alert times are still controlled correctly (if the event has a 15 minute alert, it stays at 15 minutes).   One last piece, I successfully upgraded my iPad without this problem happening there.  Suggestions?

Did you automatically sync?  If so, try manually syncing.  At least this way, you will have control of the music you sync.  No duplicates.
Read the PDF user manual for a possible solution:  iPod Manuals and/or iPod Nano Support
All Apple Stores and AASPs will repair iPod Nanos.

  • Can I prevent calendar alerts from setting themselves?

I use my calendar constantly.  After I add a new event I see that there are NO alerts set, this is how I would like it to stay.  Once I am done, I move on and add another event.  If I come back to that first event I had added and tap on it to see details, I also see that there are two alerts set for 10 minutes before the event.  I then go back in and reset them to "none".  This wastes a lot of my time.  Is there a way to prevent this from happening?  I'd like to keep them defaulted to no alerts unless I want to go in and set one occasionally.  Any help you can give would be appreciated.  Thanks!

You can't prevent users from resizing a pop-up.

  • How do I set a default calendar when adding new events on iCal?

When I add events from either my macbook pro or my iphone using ical there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to whether these events are added to either my "work" or "home" calendar. I would like to have all events added by default to one or the other calendar. Anyone know how to set a specific calendar as the default regardless of through which device I add events?

    webco,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iCal desktop calendar has no such preference. Default entry is dependent upon first selecting the appropriate calendar in the "CALENDARS" pane.
The iPhone default calendar is available by selecting Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Calendars>Default Calendar.

  • Set a Default Calendar for New Appointments in iCal?

I never found a post with a sufficient answer to this question. However, it seems as though I may have stumbled on a resolution myself.
iCal has it's own default calendars: Home and Work. I use MobileMe so the MoblieMe calendar is listed there as well. I also have an iPhone 4. I wanted all calendars to syncronize automatically when I create a new appointment on any of the 3 locations (laptop, cloud, or phone). I found that when create a new event in iCal on my macbook pro, it wouldn't update with mobileme or my phone. This was because when I double click to create a new event, iCal automatically puts the new event into my "Home" calendar, even though it was unchecked and not highlighted. As soon as I double click to create the new event, iCal's default kicks in and the Home calendar in the "On My Mac" section suddenly becomes checked and highlighted all by itself and the new event is automatically placed there, never to be updated with the cloud or on my phone.
I think the problem may be related to something I read under "How Do I Set a Default Calendar for New Appointments in iCal?" There a solution given was that the uppermost calendar was being defaulted to and it was suggested to drag the desired calendar to the uppermost position. None of my calendars would drag anywhere. However, I find that if I uncheck Home and Work in the column on the left under "On My Mac" AND then click the arrow so those two calendars are hidden (very important), and then check and highlight the only showing calendar: MobileMe, that (so far) when I doulbe click to create a new event, a new event is created in the MobileMe calendar, and Home and/or Work under the "On My Mac" section never becomes checked or highlighted. So the new event is created only in the MobileMe calendar listed and updates on my laptop, in the cloud, and on my phone.
So far that has been my experience; but, it has been only minutes since I tried that, so let's see what happens after a couple of weeks or so of normal use and see if the problem is actually resolved.

I have been searching for this information for weeks now -- thank you!
This works for Google Calendar as well as for Mobile Me. I'm going to type a little more information here to see if I can help this answer come up more quickly for other users when they keyword search as I was doing.
This answer helped me reset and change the default calendar for iCal. I can now set my Google Calendar as the default calendar in iCal. When I create a new event in iCal, it syncs to Google Calendar as the default calendar without having to choose another calendar. All my iCal new events now go directly to Google Calendar and sync to my iPhone and iPad. I couldn't move the gmail google calendar to the top position, and just unchecking Home and Work didn't change where new events defaulted. Now my new events automatically go from iCal to google calendar, and I don't lose track of any events. I think you can set any calendar as the default iCal calendar for new events using this approach.

I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

  • Setting the Mobileme calendar as the default calendar on my iPhone

Guys, my question is quite simple. I have tried in many ways but I can't manage to set the Mobileme calendar as the default calendar in my iPhone. At the moment, the default is the iPhone calendar, which doesn't sync with my Mobileme account and consequently I have all my appointments only on my iPhone and not in my Macbook Pro or my PC.
Any advice on the above will be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
