  • Need help changing the default download location in Firefox3.6.16

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [/questions/808920]</blockquote><br>
I have been having default download location problem for over a year now and no one has been able to offer a solution so if you can figure this out, well, I can't say enough good about you.
Here's my problem. I'm an online math instructor for a college. I use Firefox 3.6.16, and have also tried the latest version. Os is Vista. Students email me Microsoft Word 2007 documents every day as attachments to email. I click on the documents, make corrections and when I go to save their document to my computer, the default always wants to save it in a temp file! I read where Firefox is supposed to default save in the desktop (which is where I want it to default to, but that never happens). When the save defaults to the temp file, I have to scroll up numerous files and find the desktop option and click it to save it on the desktop. This is not a huge deal until you have to do it for 90 students and then it becomes time consuming.
Numerous times I have followed the standard process of (TOOLS>OPTIONS>SAVE FILES TO DESKTOP) within Firefox but that never works. I've reinstalled Firefox, that doesn't work. I've also tried to change the "Save Options" settings within Word 2007 and that hasn't solved the problem either. Please advise if you have a solution. Thanks in advance!

  • Setting shared VMware folder as default download location

I have Arch set up in a VM and have my data folders shared from my host. I want to set the default download location of the Arch guest to the shared downloads folder from the host. I am unable to though, I have to create a folder within the shared folder to do so. I'm guessing it is because I am using a symbolic link to link the shared folders into my ~/.
Holy bajesus, sorry for how many times I just said folder.
But... any ideas on how I can do so...? Thus far ln -s has failed this quest

  • Setting default download location for apps

Ok I found one thread on this but it was never really answered. Im looking for a way to set the location that my apps download to.
Right now I have no space on my C: drive and would like all my app files to be sent to my D: drive.
    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I've checked My N8 (Belle) and 808 (Belle FP1) and can't find anywhere to configure the download location.
    Sorry.

  • How can I change the default download location in Firefox 4

Downloads go immediately to the Download folder. I want to change to a different location. Cannot find the right place to change this in Firefox 4.

Click on the Firefox icon, then:
    Tools > Options > General

  • After I have migrated a 'master' profile into another, the browse button (for a download location) in Options, General doesn't work anymore. How can I fix this?

    Hi Supporters,
I've been struggling with this some time (downloading / saving problems) and tried all kinds of variations. But I'll keep it simple for now.
As a test .. I've just created a fresh firefox profile. Checked out if could change the download location, through the Browse button, and indeed that worked. I got an explorer dialog to choose a folder.
Normally I would do the options, manage the search engines, do some layout stuff etc etc in order to get some 'baseline / master' profile I can evolve further into other more extended profiles. So you see this master profile will get copied into another one.
But, having copied that fresh profile (having done nothing yet) into another seems to disable choosing another download folder. The Browse button in Options > General does not work anymore.
There's more. If I browse to, say, C:\ as default download location but then enable 'ask me where to save ..' in the fresh profile and then copy this profile to another one .. if I then want to change the download location (which shows C:) it jumps to Desktop and again the Browse button won't work.
This is driving me mad. Any ideas? Sorry for the long story, hope it helps.

    Hi guys,
@cor-el: getting rid of not needed parts is what I always do. Besides prefs and localstore, only the search-metadata and permissions / signons are passed along. Oh, forgot to mention the mimetypes.
No, my point is why is FF looking for those folders when there's no mentioning of these to be found in my options? Not even in de about:config ... When I state C:\ as my downloads location it's absurd to check any other folder first, which FF seems to do before giving me an explorer window showing .. C:\ as a starting point. Like my unrestricted laptop does.
@jscher2000: Even if there are pointers to those default folders, FF should not be checking those. When I state C: I mean C: (see my answer above).
No, I'm convinced this is a bug unless someone knows a way to stop that folder checking. And to be honest, the not working Browse button is the least of my problems (I use: ask everytime where). No it's the saving that is the problem. But I guess the underlying problem is the same. Saving / downloading, what's in a name ..
Guys, thanks for your help ! I can't fix a bug so I'm going to let it be. I'll rebuild my master and will keep checking of saving a website becomes a problem somewhere. Mind you, the solutions offered in kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files didn't work.
Oh well, I'll keep my fingers crossed :)

  • Changing Airdrop Default Save Location

    Hello All,
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Simple question...
There has to be a way to change the default save location of AirDrop. Has anyone stumbled across this?
    ~ lbcSSA

    Hi Jeffrey,
your solution is nice for people who don't care about spoiling their system disk, which I agree must be numerous today.
But would you possibly have another suggestion to avoid documents sent via Airdrop to end up at all on the System disk ? I mean, just as one can do it for the Safari or Mail downloads, where you can define a default folder located on a different hard disk ? I'm with a MacPro, and System disk is intended only for... system, not files, so to avoid fragmentations issues from multiple erase actions of unnecessary files.
Is it possible that Apple writes "default folder" and forgot that "default" means one can opt for an alternative solution ??? Has Apple gone that un-professional ? Please tell me I've just missed a line somewhere... and that I don't have to rely once more on a third party app...
    Cheers !

  • Lightroom keeps changing default import location; how to set it once and for all?

    Hi all,
I'm on a mac, and coming from iPhoto. After migrating to Lightroom, I made is so my photos imports from my camera into "/Pictures/LightroomMasters/year/month/day".Now, suddenly, I noticed that they end up in "/Pictures/year/month/day".
I really want Lightroom to keep importing everything inside the "Lightroom Masters"-folder, without me clicking to that location everytime I attach my camera. But going through the Preferences, and Catalouge-settings, I can not find the equivalent of "Default import location". Is there such a setting? Or is Lightroom meant to remember where is imported to last, and keep on using that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andreas

It seems to remember the folder structure on my system. But I'm running Windows 7. I just tested it by inserting a memory card and importing the images on it, I don't connect cameras to my computer, to my E drive and to a folder named Pictures 2015. I had LR place these images in a sub-folder of that Picture 2015 with the date in the format of 20150201 and which these picture were taken on the 30th of January so the folder was 20150130. I then closed LR and reopened it and took some more shots around the house and then imported those. LR import dialog went right back to that E drive \Pictures 2015 folder and placed those newer images in a folder named 20150201.
So it remembered which drive and which top level folder it was supposed to. Not sure it it would work with a secondary sub-folder under the Pictures 2015 folder.
To be honest I rarely use the import from memory card feature of LR. I don't care for the naming conventions it offers. I do use the Adobe Photo Downloader applet that comes with PS Bridge as the naming convention in that creates sub-folders with just the month and day in this format 0201. I don't need the year tacked on to the front of that sub-folder name, although it can do that, as I store all my images by years to begin with. Then I import to LR from those folders the APD app creates.
If you are using more than one camera it might remember for each camera so from now on it will go back to the right folder.

  • On "save image as...", Firefox requests a download location

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    Browser: Firefox 4.0.1
I recently did a clean install of Windows and all related programs, Firefox included. I now find that, no matter what, Firefox always asks me where to save my file when I right click an image and select "Save image as..." Because my job often requires me to pick and choose several images from a given site at a time, this is a big hassle and add a lot of extra time and clicking.
I would love to know how to make it stop asking me to choose a location every single time I download a simple image. It is infuriatingly frustrating.
This behavior is consistent whether I have chosen a default download directory in the options or if I have instructed it to "always ask" me. Changing this option does not change the behavior.
Incidentally, the extension DownloadSort seems to be broken now, as well, which is odd because I was running Firefox 4 prior to my reformat and it was working as intended. Disabling or enabling this extension has no effect on the issue. Similarly, I installed Automatic Save Folder in a desperate attempt to fix the problem, but it appears to be inactive as well.

Regarding the file saving inconsistencies, great point! I'd recommend [http://input.mozilla.com/en-US/feedback submitting some feedback] or [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ filing a bug report]...I may even file a bug myself if I get some time. Ideally, you want to be able to right-click on any image on the page and have it saved to the specified default download directory without a prompt, correct?
I also tried to reproduce the Firefox experience with ''Save Image As'' you described before previously with different Firefox versions, but was unsuccessful as well...I'm assuming the DownloadSort add-on was adding that nifty feature.
Could you point me to a page/site where Google Chrome behaves differently from Firefox in regards to ''Save Image As...''? From my experience, Google Chrome does the same thing as Firefox, but I may not be using the browsers in the same way. I suspect the developers prompt for a filename/location because often websites give very long and/or non-descriptive filenames for images, so they figure users probably want to rename the file...alas that's no help in this situation!
I feel like I'm now just throwing a bunch of add-ons at you in the hopes that one might stick (I'm not, honest!), but I also stumbled across another [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/image-picker/ add-on called Image Picker] that I think may find useful. After the add-on is installed, it will add a ''Pick Images'' option in your context menu (right-click on a page with images), then selecting ''Pick Images'' will bring up a small window with all images on the page from which you can select in the menu and save to a folder.
In any case, no pressure to mark your question as solved! :)
P.S. If you must change browsers, at least give [http://www.opera.com/ Opera] a go if you haven't already. ;-)

  • Using OneDrive as default save location for project

I installed VS on 2 different computers and want to develop from both of them at times. Either my desktop of laptop. Therefore I want to store the project files on the Onedrive folders that are mapped on my local machine.
I have changed the default save location for Projects and also the other Registry Settings in HKCU... to onedrive/projects folder. But once I create the project from on PC and try to open it from another I am getting the following error.
the file xxxx.csproj : error : The project file could not be loaded. The filed cannot be accessed by the system.

    Hello waddat,
I haven't test this issue about onedrive mapped folder. But may I ask this question: Does the location exist in your PC or is it just a mapped virtual drive?
In my point of view, when you tried to open a project from your folder, it is possible that the file is being used by onedrive synchronous process. Or Visual Studio cannot find the specific file because the file has not been uploaded/downloaded to the path
    you want to search?
I don't recommend you set the default location to OneDrive folder, it is not reliable for you to do this because the synchronous process of OneDrive is not certain by us.
If you want to store your projects online, the recommend way is to use Visual Studio Online
    http://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/what-is-visual-studio-online-vs.aspx
If you want to store projects using OneDrive, please try create your projects on local drive and upload your file to OneDrive and then download it from some other sides to us. I think this is the best practise for you.
    Best regards,
    Barry

  • Application Manager Download Location

Hello: I downloaded the Application Manager in hopes of downloading the trial of PhotoShop CS6.
The problem is, I cannot dictate the download location, only the install location. It defaults to "C." Drive. My "C." drive does not have space for the download. I have plenty of space on my "D." Drive which is where I wish to download to.
On top of all this, I have found no way to uninstall the Application Manager.
Adobe, please fix this. Also, there should be an option to uninstall. If I cannot use the Application Manager, I do not wish to have it installed on my computer.
    Thank you.

The application manager uses your system's temp folder. Refer to this on how to change it (the part about SSDs):

  • Default File Location for Word using GPO

I have just launched Office 2013 for my users.   Those users access Word and Excel via Terminal Servers.   So, I need ways to set the defaults for these products so I don't have to touch each users login/machine.   I have been
able to use Group Policy for everything I need except in Word and the default file location.   I have tried the GPO administrative template for Office 2013 and went to Microsoft Word 2013 > Word Options > Advanced > File Locations and set
    the path to N:\
Did the gpupdate /force and nothing changed.                               However, Group Policy will set
    it in Excel.
So then I tried using the registry template in GPO.     Here I used HKEY_CURRENT_USER with path to
Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Options and the value name is DefaultPath
    Value data is N:\
    That doesn't work either.
HOW are we suppose to set defaults to our network in Word.
I have also did the entry in GPO to "block signing into Office"                     None Allowed
We don't and won't be using SkyDrive in our type of business

    Hi,
Based on my tested in my environment, I went to set the Default File Location via group policy.
Word: Microsoft Word 2013/Word Options/Advanced/File Location/ and change the Default File Location
Excel: Microsoft Excel 2013/Excel Options/Save and change Default file location
Both of them works fine. As you said " However, Group Policy will set it in Excel." Does it mean that you set Word and Excel via two group policies at the same time, but it only works in Excel?
If it is, please try to re-download and change the
    Word ADMX to test.
If the issue still exist, please try to use Gpresult command Or RSOP to check group policy result on client.
When troubleshooting group policy issues, we use the gpresult command to confirm whether GPOs are really applied to the client (computer/user). You can run the following command in a command prompt:
    gpresult /z > c:\policy.txt
For more details about the usage of command Gpresult, please refer to the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490915.aspx
When you read the output, the c:\policy.txt file in this sample, please
examine the results of the report to find the answers to these questions.
Does the report list the particular GPO as applied?
Is the setting listed in the report?
Is the GPO listed in the Denied List

  • Portable Home Directories - Default save location

We are using portable home directories, that is multiple users in Open Directory that have their home set to afp:\\server\Users\ and are configured with mobile accounts and home sync.
The default save location is always the afp:\\server\Users\username location (Desktop or Documents, or whatever is needed depending on the app). The problem is the user saves to the Desktop, but it's not really their local desktop, the file doesn't show up until the next home sync. How can we change the default save location without breaking their home sync?

    Hi,
Do you mean you want to change the default location when you click Save and then
Browse? If so, we can do this via group policy.
First, you need to install Office 2010 Administrative Template files (ADM, ADMX/ADML). See:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18968
Follow this article to add the ADMX files:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179081(v=office.14).aspx#Load_O14_templates
After that, open your Group Policy Object Editor and navigate to: (Word for example)
User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Word 2010\Word Options\Advanced\File Locations, double click on
Default File Location, select Enable and defines the default path to save documents under "Options" section.
Restart Word to check the result.
    Hope this helps.

  • Software Update Download Location

    Hi all
Wonder if you can help. I want to set up the servers software update facility but have it download the files onto an external HD.
To confess I don't know what I'm doing in terminal but have tried to follow the Server manual but with no joy.
Any way the external drive name is:
    VTrak RAID
and the folder on their that I'd like all the packages downloaded into is:
    Apple Software Updates.
I have been into terminal and followed the instructions:
To delete the software update folder in Terminal:
    $ sudo rm -rf /usr/share/swupd/html
And then tried to create a symbolic link as so:
    $ ln -s /newstoragelocation /usr/share/swupd/html
I enter the following (which I'm assuming is wrong)
    $ ln -s /VTrak RAID/Apple Software Updates /usr/share/swupd/html
Would anyone mine posting the correct way to get the packages to download into the appropriate folder
Secondly I under stand that to get the client to see the server (instead of Apple) you do the following in terminal:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.softwareupdate CatalogURL http://your.server.com:8088/
enter password and it should see your server. However if I **** it up or should just want to change back to the Apples server does any one know the address for that.
Sorry that it's long and appreciate you input.
    Steve
PS if any one form Apple reads these forums. Why not have a choose download location button in Server Admin and a choose update server button in client.. Then we'd not need terminal.... Remember user friendly....lol

How do I get permission - normally terminal will ask for a password but not this time
Really? when? Terminal never asks for a password when creating links.
Maybe you're thinking of sudo, which may ask for a password to elevate your privileges before running the command, but your example didn't use sudo.
Additionally, even with sudo the command won't do what you want. The permissions it's complaining about is more likely to be the fact that the original /usr/share/swupd/html directory already exists, in which case ln is trying to create a link to the external RAID within the existing directory and you don't have permission to change that directory. You will need to remove the existing directory in order to turn it into a link.
The other option, of course, is to change the apache configuration so that it just reads from the RAID directly (you may need to do this anyway in order to tell Apache to follow symlinks).
Therefore your best option may just be to edit the DocumentRoot directive in /etc/swupd/swupd.conf
