Default download manager?

i've been using GetRight, but it got sceRwed up and i had to retie it to FF.
in the interim, DownThemAll took over, but i'd rather not use it and it pops up automatically now.
but now that it's configured to play with FF again, how do i set it to take over downloads (it used to give me an option box - "open", "save", "getright").

ok, disabled DownThemAll.
And getright is configured right, but FF '''still''' doesn't open it when i go to download something.
now i get a "destination folder" window titled "browser built-in".

  • How to configuring the download manager

    RE: Firefox v22.0 | Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon v1.8 (32bit)
How can I configure the download manager to intercept "EVERYTHING" regarding the updates to the addons and plugins? I want to intercept everything and determine myself where I want the stuff to be saved. As for the addons/plugins (generally ".xpi"), I want to save them to a specific location and then I can install them into Firefox after the download(s) is/are complete. I already have the option "Always ask me where to save files" selected but any addons/plugins that are added or updated are not affected by this selected option. Instead, they are updated/added ... more or less ... with my saving them to a specific location other than in Firefox.

Firefox will not detect .xpi (addons/extentions) using the Firefox download manager to save the .xpi's. Instead Firefox is downloading the .xpi and then asking to install them or not. I already have the option "always ask where to save files" checked. As for downloading manually, nope! If using FIrefox browser, you cannot download manually and expect to save them to a different location. It appears that, at present, I will either accept the current download manager (Firefox) as is or will have to use a 3rd party download manager; either application or addon. I am looking at the Firefox addon "Download Them All (dTa)" to use for a download manager and thus bypassing the Firefox default download manager. Anyway, thanks for the responses.

    Welcome to the forum.
The updates on firefox, like many other things in firefox are customisable / customizable, you can set it for instance to notify you but not update, or you check manually for updates, or allow it to update automatically.
    * see [[updating firefox]]
    * you may also find [[software update failed]] useful
BTW you appear to be using an experimental beta version of firefox.
If you are new to firefox it may well be worth installing the current release firefox 3.6.
    *otherwise
** you will remain on experimental versions and updates to those which you may not always want, - some may not always work or be compatible with other software
** you will not have the current stable version
You should then follow the instructions to create an additional 'profile' so that each version has its own profile, otherwise you are likely to run in to problems. ( The "profile" stores bookmarks and a lot of your important firefox data, you do not want that to get messed up with beta editions of software) If you ever uninstall firefox note the option to remove settings removes all data bookmarks etc from ALL installed versions of firefox. (Firefox normally, otherwise, does a good job of presering settings and bookmarks etc)

  • Firefox download manager problems

The default download manager in Firefox started showing a strange behavior today: any file I try to download (either in the default \download folder or in a folder chosen by me) is actually downloaded by the browser but the download status bar of the file always shows an "unknown remaining time" message while being fully green (https://www.dropbox.com/s/n891ya38ifm83c3/Cattura%20di%20schermata%20%284%29.png?dl=0).
The real problem is when I download files like .torrent that as soon as are downloaded need the torrent client to start (torrent client that doesn't start because for firefox the .torrent download is never completed).
I tried disabling the antivirus (bitdefender) but the problem persisted. In Chrome downloads work fine (also with antivirus enabled).

This is as of the 32.0b'''9''' and it has been fixed and will be in the next 32.0 build, likely the 32.0 RC1 build though normally such a fix would be a Beta build like 32.0b10. The Release is next Tuesday so little time. In '''about:config''' you can try modify the value for browser.safebrowsing.appRepURL to be blank in meantime.

  • How do I re-enable showing the download files history in the download manager window?

    System: Windows XP
I am trying to re-enable showing/retaining the list of downloaded files in the download manager window. I want to be able to drag and drop directly from that window into a folder of my choosing. (I used to be able to do this, but apparently I messed that up...)
I have tried the suggestions that could easily be found, including setting Firefox to remember all history in the Privacy tab of Options.
I also deleted the mimeTypes.rdf file to "reset" the browser defaults, but to no avail.
    Any ideas/help?
    Thanks.

By the way, a few other things you probably know:
    (1) The setting to keep the downloads list displayed after a download is here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > General
Check "Show the Downloads window..." and ''uncheck'' "Close it..."
    (2) You can always show the list by pressing Ctrl+j
The mimeTypes.rdf file isn't particularly relevant to this problem; it affects what application Firefox uses to open a particular type of file.
However, there is a database file which stores your download history which might be corrupted. You could rename that file and have Firefox start building a new one.
    (1) Open your personal settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder
Help (or Alt+h) > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
    (2) Switch back to Firefox and exit the program (e.g., File > Exit)
    (3) Wait a few moments for Firefox to finish updating files in your settings folder, then rename '''downloads.sqlite''' to something else, like downloads.old. Alternately, you can delete the file.
    (4) You're done with your profile folder and you can restart Firefox now.
    Any improvement?

  • How do I make download manager behave the way it should?

    == Issue
    ==
I have another kind of problem with Firefox
    == Description
    ==
When downloading a filetype that is set to "Always ask", Download Manager (DM) offers two radio-buttons and a checkbox, for "open with", "save to disk" and "always do thls", respectively.
My question regards the first. The option now reads "Open with ....[[browse]".
It used to read, and should still read, "Open with ,,, [[TheRightApplicationForThisFiletype]"
If I do click [[Browse], FF offers a list of helper applications, most of which are wildly wrong and could not handle the filetype -- such as Acrobat, or FF itself. But when I do pick the correct application from this list, now DM momentarily and finally looks like it should have looked in the first place:
    "Open with ... [[MSWordWhacker]"
and upon clicking "OK", opens the file with WordWhacker.
The next time, though, we're back to [[Browse]. I've browsed enough! I feel like a sheep!
Everybody starts telling me about the Applications menu and setting it to "Always open with WordWhacker", and that's not the right answer. THAT just automatically opens the file with WordWhacker instead of offering me the options to either open or save the file. I need the "Save to disk" option every time.
In the [[browse] list of helper applications WordWhacker isn't even the first option. The first option is FireFox, and FF can't handle WordWhacker files. Neither can any of the other choices except MS WordWhacker.
My windows file associations are correct, MSWW is the only application associated with the filetype. I've tried uninstallling and reinstalling the app, no change.
One suggestion from IRC was that my profile was corrupt, so I deleted the whole folder and had FF recreate me. No difference. Downgraded to 3.5 and back to 3.6, also no difference.
The IRC guys are out of ideas. (Thanks for trying, though!)
How do I get DM to stop offering me
    "Open with ...[[Browse]"
    and start offering me
    "Open with ... [[WordWhacker]
instead, when I click on urls for wordwhacker files?

Well, there's no help here, it seems. There is a work-around in the form of an add-on called Open Download
This adds another radio button to the dialogue, and it's labeled,
"Open with default Win32 Application". It works and does exactly that -- opens the file with the application that Windows uses for that filetype.
It doesn't, notice, say what that application IS, so you must know that yourself. And naturally, if something you install plays "swipe the file association" as so many applications do, this will change which application gets used without notice to you.
Clearly, it would be better if DM worked as outlined, and told you what application it was going to use. But this workaround solves the basic problem.

I hate it when updates break things instead of fixing them. Can't Mozilla leave well enough alone? At the very least, each new release should be tested so it works with ALL PREVIOUS extensions!
Wait till you "update" to firefox 4 and EVERYthing breaks, including the buttons that come with it. There is no arrow next to the dropdown button, right clicking the tab bar doesn't bring up the correct menu, but one as though it were the menu bar (which is missing) and the information bar is missing. True, it's fast, but you'll spend weeks getting it to work properly.

  • Download Manager with Microsoft ISA Server

Hello forum, I need help with the connection of program SAP DOWNLOAD MANAGER with ISA Server 2004
I've installed JAVA 1_4_2_13 and Download Manager, I configured the setting with the proxy connection (server ISA, user and pass)
    but an error appears:
The basket content could not be read. The following exception occurred:
Unable to read data from the Service Marketplace: Check your settings and try again
In my ISA server I declared the form my IP to Internet permit all traffic out.
Somebody help me ??? what do I have to configure in my ISA Server to permit the connection?
    Thanks.
    Costa Gustavo

Hi Ram, I solved the problem with download manager.
First my PC don't use as default gateway the ISA Server, I've another default gateway for my LAN.
Is it the problem because my PC never contact directly to SAP, I could solved this problem if my PC can contact directly the IP of SAP.
You will can set in your PC the gateway of ISA server and public DNS to contact SAP directly
    For example:
I've default gateway 192.168.0.1 for my LAN
My ISA server to internet is 192.168.0.9
Public DNS : (My ISP) 200.0.1.1
In your ISA server you can set a policy from your PC to External for all user with all traffic permit.
You try set in your PC the following:
    Default gateway: 192.168.0.9
    DNS: 200.0.1.1
I hope this can resolve your problem
    Regards.

  • [transmission]default file manager.

    Hello!
I've installed transmission-gtk,downloaded some stuff, and when I clicked "Open Folder", showed a window with "Failed to execute default File Manager.".I tried to run update-alternatives, but found out that it never had been in arch=)
How to change file manager to normal?thunar in my case. I use openbox.

  • Chromium default file manager

Some time ago I was screwing around with the Chromium file associations, for reasons I do not recall. It must have been to do with implementing torrent file associations because since then every time I try to 'Open in Folder' or click an entry in the downloads bar at the bottom, a dialogue box appears: 'Failed to execute default File Manager / Failed to execute child process / "transmission" (No such file or directory).'
It's recently started to quite bother me, so I've decided to get it resolved at last. There is no transmission entry in any of the xdg-related files as far as I can see, so I have no idea which backwater file I edited to cause this problem. Any ideas where to look, or what to reinstall?

Nope, nothing in that thread worked. Thanks anyway.
However, I did find this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115647
    exo-preferred-applications -c
Show in Folder now works. But other file associations are not working. On my other Arch installation, clicking on PDF and torrent files from within Chromium automatically sends them to the appropriate program. Instead, here I get a dialog, presumably spawned by Nautilus, telling me the destination is not a folder.
At least it's now quicker to get to the directory and open the file manually.

  • Change default file manager in linux

After upgrading to Firefox 10.0 for Linux "Open containing folder" in downloads opens in nautilus and not my default file manager.
I'm not finding how to change this behavior.

File associations are a mess right now. Many programs (Opera included) handle them their own way. There's a project underway to handle associations in a standard way (see MIME actions, shared MIME info, desktop entries, all at freedesktop.org), but not all software uses it; KDE is a notable holdout (3 at least, not sure about 4).
Note that that first spec link, MIME actions, is currently "in the requirements-gathering / early-planning stages." That means there is no spec for that. As I said, a mess.
Most likely, Opera and Thunderbird detected you were running KDE and special-cased their association-finder to ask KDE instead. Now that you aren't, they're falling back to their normal behavior: use the first .desktop file to claim the MIME type. As I recall, both applications offer ways to specify associations in their preferences; you might just want to stick to that for now. Or use a desktop environment.
The kernel-level MIME support is designed to allow execution of strange files using interpreters. For example, you could directly execute Windows applications (as in "./notepad.exe") by setting the kernel to "interpret" application/exe files using wine. No applications use it for opening files.
