Default Excel for Discoverer Desktop

I have searched through the forum but never really found an answer for changing the defalut excel for Discoverer Desktop. We are using 10.2.2.45.45c. When exporting to excel it defaults to Mircrosolft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook. We need it to default to Excel 2003 or later this year to Mircosoft Excel 2013.
Is there a registry setting somewhere I can add ?
We have a several excel files that are produced by command line and this is starting to cause us some grief.

The administrator is a client-tool, installed from the bi-tools cd. The default url for viewer/plus looks like http://<server>:<port, default 7778>/discoverer/plus or /viewer. When you don't run in applications mode (for Oracle eBS) then you can use db-accounts to logon to Discoverer, in the Administrator logon with the EUL-owner, go to manage->privileges and give certain db-accounts the privilige to query/create workbooks and manage access to one or more business areas.

  • With Firefox as my default browser for a desktop iMac, a note appears "An attempt to change your home page and default search has been blocked" It won't go away

With Firefox as my default browser for a desktop iMac, a note appears "An attempt to change your home page and default search has been blocked" It won't go away. It tells me to click on the checkmark to change settings but that doesn't work and the red x in the upper right hand corner doesn't remove the note which is in the upper left corner of my iMac ??? The only thing that removes the note is quitting Firefox but it reappear as soon as I start Firefox back up ???

    If that does not work,
Start '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web Link} by holding down the '''<Shift><br> ''(Mac Options)'' ''' key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
Start your '''Computer''' in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try '''Safe''' web sites.

  • How to rollback to default settings in Discoverer Desktop?

    Hi all,
I have a small question. I want to get back to default settings (Settings when it first installed on the machine) in Discoverer Desktop. I changed lot of settings some known and some unknown. Can anybody please help me to rollback to my default settings. I will be very thankful to you all.
    Thanks.

    Hi
There's no easy way to do this. The settings are stored in the system registry, editing of which is fraught with danger if you are inexperienced in working with the registry.
Out of the box, the ones you are most likely to have changed are below and I have included the defaults:
    In Application:
    CacheFlushPercentage - 25
    DocumentOrigin - 2
    MaxVirtualDiskMem - 4096000000
    MaxVirtualHeapMem - 4096000000
    QueryBehavior - 0
    ViewType - 1
    In Database:
You can safely delete all entries that begin with AEUL, ARESP and UEUL - these will get added again as you begin to work
    DisableAutoQuery - 0
    DisableFanTrapDetection - 0
    DisableMultiJoinDetection - 0
    ItemClassDelay - 15
    ObjectsAlwaysAccessible - 1
    QPPEnabled - 0
    RewriteIntegrity - 0
    SQLType - 0
    UseOptimizerHints - 0
You can generally leave the rest alone.
If you have any other settings that you are concerned about please let me know
Do you have a copy of my Oracle Discoverer 10g Handbook? If not I would strongly recommend getting it. Pages 786 to 799 discuss all of the preferences, states what the default is and describes what the valid settings are.
Even though I am the author of the book and yes I would get some royalties that is not why I recommend it. I recommend it because it is the official Oracle Press book on Discoverer. There are more than 1000 pages packed full of advice, tips and tricks. My wife and I spent over 9 months putting the book together. We also worked close with Oracle to make sure that the book was accurate.

  • Window Sizing for Discoverer Desktop   -- version 10.1.2.45.46c

I have something weird happening now with Discoverer desktop. I can only use it in Maximized screen mode. This just happened a few days ago.
    Any suggestions

Did actually figure this out. These are the basic steps :
    Minimized the screen
Clicked Alt and spacebar (this pops up a menu).
    Selected Move.
Using cursor keys I arrowed down and right a couple of times (cursor starts in top left)
Then I clicked on screen and the Desktop window showed up. I resized to where I wanted it.
Did this process a couple of times until when I opened up a new window it came up to the size I wanted.

  • I need to know how to change default browser for my desktop icloud apps to open with.

I like to use the desktop icloud apps, but when i use them, they open with IE when my default browser I like to use is Chrome. Is there a way to make it open with Chrome when I open Calendar or iCloud from my desktop instead of IE?
thankyou for your help in advance!

Ed...maybe a little less time gaming and a bit more time in English class? They got this thing called punctuation and sentences now. Last things first; there is no amount of money that can change your GPU so you can scratch that expense off the list. So you need a battery and a fan? Where do you live? USA? We can help you find a battery but where did you plan to have the new fan put in?

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop Report output showing unicode characters

    Hi,
Oracle Discoverer Desktop 4i version Report output showing the below unicode characters.
    kara¿ah L¿MAK HOLD¿NG A.¿
We ran the same query in sql at that time the data showing correctly.
Please let me know, is there any language settings/ NLS settings are need to set
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
Let me give you some background. In the Windows registy, every Oracle Home has a setting called NLS_LANG. This is the variable that controls, among other things, the numeric characters and the language used. The variable is made up of 3 parts. These are:
    language_territory.characterset
Notice how there is an underscore character between the first two variables and a period between the last two. This is very important and must not be changed.
So, for example, most American settings look like this: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
The second variable, the territory, controls the default date, monetary, and numeric formats and must correspond to the name of a country. So if I wanted to use the Greek settings for numeric formatting, editing the NLS_LANG for Discoverer Desktop to this setting will do the trick:
    AMERICAN_GREECE.WE8MSWIN1252
Can you please check your settings? Here's a workflow:
    a) Open up your registry by running Regedit
    b) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    c) Look for the Oracle Home corresponding to where Discoverer Desktop is installed. It's probably called KEY_BIToolsHome_1
    d) Clicking on the Oracle Home will display all of the variables
    e) Take a look at the variable called NLS_LANG - if it is correct Exit the registry
    f) If its not correct please right-click on it and from the pop-up select Modify
    f) Change the variable to the right setting
    g) Click the OK button to save your change
    h) Exit the registry
    Best wishes

  • Where is Discoverer Desktop installation disks?

I already have Oracle Application Server 10g installed on Windows and have been using Oracle Portal. Now I want to explore Oracle Discoverer. I see no Windows Start menu item for Discoverer Desktop nor Admin. My Start Menu folder named Discoverer only has 2 shortcuts: [Edit Preferences] and [Apply Preferences].
I have searched oracle.com, but cannot find a download for Oracle Discoverer Desktop nor Admin.
Where do I find these tools?

    Hi,
    It should be the following:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/ias/101202/as_windows_x86_bi_tools_101202.zip
The Oracle Discoverer Desktop and Oracle Discoverer Administrator are included in a product known as:
    Oracle BI Tools
and they are available only to Windows platform...., at least till 10g version....

  • Parameter default value doesn't work in Discoverer Desktop 4i

    Hello,
I have a parameter called 'Organization' in discoverer report.
I want to set its default value to one organization from the list of values. I edited the parameter
and selected that value from the list in the Default value field. But,when I run
the report, it shows the recently used value for that parameter,
instead of showing the default value.
I have the same problem with all parametrs in workbooks in Discoverer.
    I am using Discoverer Desktop 4i (4.1.41.05.00).
Is there anything i can do to make Discoverer show me the default value for the parameter every time i run the workbook?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks Rod!
Unfortunately it seams that seting that p[reference doesn't work for my version of Discoverer.
That option is introduced with version 4.1.43 and we are using version 4.1.41.05.
I suppose i can't solve that problem on another way in this version of Discoverer Desktop..?

  • How to use Oracle OAB Fast Formulas in Discoverer-desktop [ for reporting]

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to use a fast formula in discoverer-desktop [for reporting]. Currently, we have a disco-report that calcuates the 'monthly salary', but we don't want to use that. Instead, we have a custom fast-formula [xx_oab_monthly_salary] which has the conditions and calculations that we need.
I want to use that formula in discoverer-desktop directly and get the monthly-salary.. i.e., someone needs to create a folder under the business area and add it i believe.. the formula internally calls a function.
when i checked about this with my dba - he said, he can add the 'function', but not the formula. and i need to write the calculation part...
does anyone know how to add it...there shud a way right...
i do not have access to the technical-stuff here..
someone said ["you can wrap the FF_EXEC.run_formula call into your own pl/sql function and map this function into the EUL so that the formula can be called from a workbook.", but this talks about pl/sql-do we need pl/sql
    for this].
also, someone else said [ some fast formulas need specific contexts to be set. Depending on whether the fast formula below the only fast formula that you want to recreate in Discoverer.
For a single formula, in general my recommendation is to recreate the fast formula instead of using the ff_exec call].
    any quick answers greatly appreciate..
    thx,

    Hi,
That's right you need to develop the pl/sql function outside of Discoverer using a pl/sql tool or just SQL*plus. I haven't an example to hand, but can dig one up if you need it. Once you have the function developed you can map it into the EUL using Discoverer Administrator. It will then be available to Discoverer Desktop/Plus as a database function when creating calculations. So you can then just add the calculation to an existing or new report.
Alternatively, you can build the pl/sql function into a view and load the view into a new folder using Discoverer Admin.

  • Change default app for excel files

Is there a way to change the default app for viewing Excel files sent as email attachments on iphones and ipads? Currently if you tap the file it opens in Quick Look, tap and hold gives other options to open the file. I want to set the tap affect to open the file in numbers instead.

Any email attachment should give you the option of opening it in any app that can at a minimum view the file. In the File function (i.e. by tapping the "box with an arrow" icon), then swiping to the left and tapping "More", you can turn off a handful of apps from appearing, but also change the order in which they appear on the pop up making your app of choice a little quicker to access. Also, if you tap and hold on the attachment icon in the message, it opens the same functionality with going through the quick look.

  • Default values for files and columns when adding a discoverer porlet

Hi, i'd like to know how to configure the default value for numbers of columns and files when i add a new discoverer porlet in a portal page.
The actual default value is 10 files and 6 columns and i always have to increase it to at least 100x100.
Is there any config file where i can change that?
    I've found a configuration.xml in $ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/config/configuration.xml
    with a section
<!-- Discoverer Servlet configuration. Defines behaviour of both
    discoverer/plus and discoverer/viewer servlets -->
but couldnt find a parameter for those items.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Discoverer Desktop Report issue

    Hi,
One of my user is facing a format issue while running the report in Oracle Discoverer 10g. The report produces the following out put.
    count(Col A)     Col B     Col C     Col D
    12          A     200709     12-Sep-07
    11          A     200709     21-Sep-07
    24          B     200709     11-Sep-07
    32          B     200709     13-Sep-07
    10          B     200710     15-Oct-07
Col A is of number data type, Col B character, Col C is number and Col D is date
if Col D is removed from the report, the user is getting the result in following format
    count(Col A)     Col B     Col C
    23          A     401418
    56          B     401418
    10          B     200710
i.e. col C displays the sum of the value based in Col B instead of displaying it as 200709.
but when I ran the report from my end I'm getting the result in a proper manner.
    count(Col A)     Col B     Col C
    23          A     200709
    56          B     200709
    10          B     200710
Please help me in sorting out this issue.
    Environment Details:
    Oracle Discoverer Admin 10g(9.0.4)
    Oracle Discoverer Desktop 10g (9.0.4)
    End User Layer 5.0.2
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    SS

    @Himanshu3jul:
I'm not using any Oracle Application secure views. Also, the data that are being displayed is proper if Col D is not removed. If user removes Col D, the result is getting aggregated based on Col B but for me it is showing in a perfect manner.
    @puppethead:
I'm afraid I may not be able to the check the registry on user machine since user is sitting at a different location.
    @Rod West:
The default Aggregate property for Col C is set to <none> and it is grayed out. I'm not able to change it too. Also, if it is a bug then I should get the result as what user receives but I'm not facing any issues in that report but only user is.
Please let me know what can be done next to figure it out.
Also, I have the screen shots from my machine and from user’s. if you think that it will really help then I can post it. please let me know where and how I can post it so that you can have a look at it.
    Thanks,
    SS

    Hi
The easiest way to get a fully working TNSNAMES in a version 4 environment is to use the Net 8 Configuration utility.
    Here's a workflow:
    1. From the Start button, select Start | Oracle for Windows NT | Oracle Net8 Easy Config
    2. When it starts, check Add New Service and in the little box to the right type the name by which you want this connection to be known
    3. Click the Next button
    4. Select TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) and click the Next button
    5. Enter the fully qualified domain name or IP address of the server that contains the database
    6. In Port, enter the port number - it defaults to 1521
    7. Click the Next button
8.In Database SID enter the name of the database, then click the Next button
    9.Click the Test Service button
    10. Provide a username and password for an account on the database, then click the Test button
    11. If you see: Connecting.... The test did not succeed you got the username/password combination wrong or some other part of the setup
    12. When you see: Connecting.... The connection test was successful click the Done button
    13. Click the Next button
    14. Click the Finish button
You should now have a valid TNSNAMES connection for use by Discoverer 4
    Best wishes
