Default expanded hierarchy in OBIEE

Hi,
I have designed product hierarchy. It's working as desired. Product Category is at first level with a drill down symbol (+). When I click on that '+', it drills down to Product Subcategory. Similarly I can navigate to products by clicking '+' symbol further. Now I have a requirement where in I have to show all levels opened at a time, so that end user can see detailed data first, then they can drill up to required level.

Auto Expand Hierarchy

Hi gurus,

I don't think its possible here...
Option available are just for "Collapse all items in this column" and "Collapse all items on this page". Expand(+) will just expand the next level...

Issue with Presentation Hierarchy in obiee 11g

Hi Guru's
I am using a presentation hierarchy in obiee 11 g, but it is behaving weirdly when expanding the hierarchy
for example i have a hierarchy for languages when i expand one country in the hierarchy all the countries which has similar childs are getting expanded
for Example Parent A B C D
under A i have 1, 2,3,4, under B i have 5,6,7,8 under C i have 9, 10 ,11, 12 under D i have 1, 13, 14, 15
so when i expand A in answers D is also getting expanded as i have 1 as common value in both the parents.
can some please help me how to fix this, as the user does not like this expansion

That is strange... I downloaded the files from the left hand side of this page:

... the title states quiite clearly that the Sample Application (Build 825) applies to OBIEE release 11g.

Building hierarchy trees (ragged hierarchy) in OBIEE

We want to build a hierarchy tree to drill into the different levels of our organization. (ragged hierarchy) In OBIEE Answers or like product is there a way to expand down the page in a tree format? I am looking for what others have done to display that UI drill down similar to how the Windows registry/file system expands. Building filters across the page will not work for us. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did read it and was helpful, but I am trying to solve a UI formating problem. All the BI products seem to go across the page with filtering, not down the page in a tree format.

How to update a parent child hierarchy in OBIEE

Hello All
Quick question about updating parent child hierarchy in OBIEE.
As we know, OBIEE 11G allows us to create value based hierarchy by generating table creation script and insert script. In the typical example of employee dimension, the parent child relationship table will be created with the following 4 attributes:
MEMBER_KEY, ANCESTOR_KEY, DISTANCE, IS_LEAF
So, what if later in the years some of the employees got promoted, retired or transferred? The value based hierarchy is going to change because person 1 reports to manager 2 now instead of 1. Obviously, the records in employee dimension is going to be updated. When that happens, how to update the parent child relation table with the same information? Do we have to rerun the insert script? How do we keep the history of employee changes and hierarchy changes?

OBIEE 11g is having " localedefinitions.xml " file at this Location C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\display
in my case i installed at C:\Oracle\MIddleware.
so
1- Stop BI Server from EM
2- Navigate to this Location C:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\display. in your case oracle home will be different
3- take a backup of this file localedefinitions.xml "
4- modify it and save
5- bring BI Server up.

How to display an expanded hierarchy in report?

i'm working with BI 7.0. How do I display a completly expanded Hierarchy in my report. At present I see the hierarchy but the nodes need to be manually expanded in the report.

In Query designer under properties of your characteristics there is a separate tab called "hierarchy"; only If hierarchy is active for your characteristic you can change the properties for the hierarchy. If not you will see a message like "no avalaible hierarchy for this characteristics".
If it is active it will be changeable. For autoopen your hierarchy you should select the point "expand till step" and define here till which step you want autoopen your hierarchy.

Parent Child Hierarchy in OBIEE 11G

I am working on the parent child hierarchy in OBIEE 11g Source ESSBASE ..followed some of the blogs.

I followed the following steps.
1.Imported the Cubes from ESSBASE.
2.Selected Accounts Hirearchy and changed the Hierarchy type to Value.
3.Dragged the subject area to BMM and to Presentation.
4.Now when i checked the Account Hierarchy from in the dashboard its not drilling down.
If i change the Hierarchy type to Unbalanced ...then the Account hiearchy is working fine.
Is there is any settings or process i have to follow..inorder to implement the Value based Hierarchy in OBIEE 11G source ESSBASE.

So basically this means that if I build a parent child hierarchy on table A having the stucture like
--David (Manager)
-----James (Off1)
--------Bill (Off2)
and in my sales fact table for let's say today, I have only rows for Bill (Off2) because he is the only officer who did the sales today. Now when I will join my fact table to parent child hierarchy table A I will NOT get any data ? because there is no James who is the parent of Bill. So obiee need to have parent pulled off in the data (ANCESTOR) to be able to roll up the child.(IS_LEAF = 1)
I testes this and if my data only contains only rows for Bill (or I limit on ROLE = Off2) then it won't show the hierarchy. The query which OBIEE fires is to look for either ANCESTOR_KEY = NULL OR (DISTANCE = 1 AND ANCESTOR KEY IN (Bill). Therefore it doesn't I am wondering then what is the use of builiding the parent child hierarchy when we need to pull in all the ancestors (like in this case James for bill and David for james) because in real scenarios there can be cases wherein we would want to filter the data based on other dimensions to which the parent child hierarchy joins ?

Please let me know as users doesn't want to drill the report but by selecting the option from the drop down Direct/Indirect they should see the results.

Expand Hierarchy

Hi all,
I have a question regarding to the web template. From the context menu, there is a function called "Expand Hierarchy". Under that it shows Level of Hierarchy, for example Level 01 - Level 05. Can we have the actual description instead of showing the level only? Our users feel it is so tough to dig into it and find what level they need to find.

The only way I see of doing that is by doing a system mod (either update the javascript function that creates the context menus or update the ABAPOO class). You may be able to create a copy of the ContextMenu javacsript function from the MIME and overlay that function. Due to scope, the local javascript in your web template will be used as a substitute to the global javascript in the MIME.

OBIEE 11g after expand Hierarchy Columns move the page to where the expand was clicked

Hi,
I have a question about expanding the hierarchy columns.
I have made so that some information are only show when press the + sign to expand extra information.
The problem I am having is that when the + sign is pressed to expand the content, the whole page get refresh and move back to the top of the page.
Is there a way to stay where the screen was after expanding, instead of going back to the top of page?

Hi Niraj,
I think you are on 11.1.1.5 + version here. Now, that you have two security realms configured (one for AD and one default), please add one more parameter virtualize = true in the EM (just the page where you added user.name etc).
This parameter would help BI Server recognize the two realms set up here.

How to change the default up arrow in OBIEE Answers

I want to change the default blue up arrow with a green up arrow in OBIEE answers. How to do it?

Do you mean the condition formatting options ? If so I had a similar requirement to create a Green up arrow and an orange 'sideways' arrow. I did the following, all based on a default Windows install using OC4J :
Navigate to :
C:\OracleBI\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\s_oracle10\meters\arrow\tri\
I copied up.gif to upgreen.gif and change the colour in a image editor.
I coped up.gif, rotated 90 degrees, changed colour to orange and saved this as sideways.gif
I copied the two new files into the Web services stye folders also :
C:\OracleBI\web\app\res\s_oracle10\meters\arrow\tri
restarted OC4J and presentation services and they are now available in the conditional formatting options, alongside the defaut Blue (up) and red(down) arrows.
** I believe the new pictures need to exist in any other style folders that you are using, e.g "s_hyperion", "s_oracle10", s_custom if you've done your own.

Issue with Skip Level Hierarchy in OBIEE 11g

I have implemented Ragged and Skip Level Hierarchy as explained in the links below in OBIEE 11g RPD.
(checked the 'Ragged' and 'Skipped Levels' check boxes)

When the Presentation Hierarchy is dragged in the OBI Answers, the leaf level beyond the skip (null) levels is not shown in the report.
When any level finds intermediate null values, OBIEE is failing to show the existing value of the leaf level (Most Granular Level) or any values after Skipped Levels.
For example, following is the values in database for different levels of department hierarchy.
A -> B -> C -> Null -> Null -> F
The OBIEE Presentation Hierarchy can only drill down till C, not beyond that. (does not show the leaf level value 'F').
Could you please suggest whether I am missing any step?

Hi, My problem is that in my report it is showing me that levels as -- A -> B -> C -> Null -> Null -> F, however I want to show data as A -> B -> C -> F, i.e the null valus(columns) should be skipped. Please help.

Not able to access the Default Versions Hierarchy in DRM

Hi all,
I am new to DRM I did the installation of DRM 11.1.1.2 configured on MS SQL server 2000 after starting the services and login to it successfully i am not able to find out the Hierarchy when i Right click on Initial version and say Open all i get following massage" No Hierarchy found in Version 'Initial Version' "
I think i want to know how to run the script manually as i feel this is because i have not executed the script yet any buddy can help with that or any document on it.

You've proobably already figured out that there aren't any hierarchies loaded by default. You can add hierarchy direct to version Initial or create a new version to create hierarchies.

How to model multiple parent hierarchy in obiee

hi,
I have product hierarchy with multiple parents for a single level. and i want to display all the levels of hierarchy at a same time.
Below mentioned is wht data i am getting from product table in OLTP
current product diamension
root1--level 1
child product1--level 2
child product2--level 3
child product3 ----level 4
and
root2----level 1
child product4----level 2
child product2----level 3
child product3 ----level 4
If u see we have child product2 belongs to two diff hierarchies.
My report req is i want to show all the levels of product in single row.Some thing like
Mb no. level 1 level 2 level 3 level 4
123 root1 CP1 Cp2 CP3
123 root2 CP4 CP2 CP3
How to model this scanario in OBIEE?
