Default file browser application in Gnome 3.2
Hello
I'm currently running Gnome 3.2 and like it quite a bit. But I have one annoying issue, somehow gnome thinks Pogo (my music player) is the default application for opening folders so when I plug in an USB device it asks me if I want to open it using Pogo instead of nautilus. Also when I use open folder in Deluge it's trying to open the folder using nautilus.
I haven't found where I can change this setting, any ideas?

How to make nemo default file browser for Firefox
I use Linux Mint. When I download some file and then click on "Open Containing Folder" button it opens Nautilus file browser. Default file browser on my computer is Nemo, so I would like to always use it.

How to set default file browser and web browser
I am using openbox as the window manager and don't have a desktop environment.
My file browser is pcmam file manager and my web browser is chromium.
I add
export BROWSER=/usr/bin/pcmanfm
in .bashrc so that the system uses pcman file manager to open a local file from an external application. But it will also uses pcman file manager to open a url. I want the url opened in chromium, but chromium doesn't let me set the default web browser (as the picture shows blow).:(
What shall deal with it?

After some hours of persistent puzzling I finally figured out how to make Thunderbird/Lanikai open URIs in Chromium instead of Firefox in the XFCE desktop environment.
In fact I found two solutions that both work.
1) The straightforward solution: make some changes to Thunderbird/Lanikai's prefs.js
Add two string variables:
string: network.protocol-handler.app.ftp; value: exo-open
string: network.protocol-handler.app.http; value: exo-open
string: network.protocol-handler.app.https; value: exo-open
and importantly: change the values of the Boolean variables network.protocol-handler.warn-external.ftp network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http and network.protocol-handler.warn-external.https to 'true'.
It turns out that for some unclear reason the standard Arch Linux Thunderbird/Lanikai package uses gnome-open to open URLs. The persistent popping up of Firefox was caused by some settings in .gconf that come with the gconfd package. I didn't find these values in gconf-editor.
2) Change xml files in .gconf
As I don't want to use Firefox as standard browser any longer, I wanted to get rid of these hidden settings in .gconfd so that "gnome-open [URI]" opens a webpage in Chromium.
I succeeded in getting there by replacing firefox with chromium in the following files:

Where should file be placed in real mobile in file browser application

i am doing an application on file browser i tested it in emulator it was having [b]appdbfolder bin folder tool kit which has the root directory with the file to be browsed
1 but problem is where should i place the file in real phone
2 if placed it resource dir it is not taking
3just make sure your CLASSPATH includes cloudscape.jar. Not just the path, but also the jar filename.
There is also a jre/lib/ext path in your java installation where you can dump your jar file so it will automatically be seen when you run your program. -

IOS applications operate in a sandbox. Apple doesn't want you snooping where you shouldn't be looking, grabbing data from other applications and the phone.

Mail/Browser applications keep reseting to Default Apps
Gents,
After restarting my computer, the mail/internet browser/pdf viewer applications keep reseting themselves to the default applications:
Entourage goes back to Mail
Firefox goes back to Safari
Acrobat goes back to Preview
Why is this happening? it all started after I installed Acrobat Reader 8.0

For default PDF settings; You can use Preview to view several types of image files, including JPG, GIF, TIF, PSD, PICT, PNG, BMP, and SGI. You can rotate, resize, and crop images, and you can convert them to different file types.
You can also use Preview to view and search Portable Document Format (PDF) files.
Preview is also used to preview documents before you print them. In another application, choose File > Print and click Preview. Preview opens with an image showing what the printed document will look like.

Safari and Mail shouldn't be deleted After changing your default application, you should not delete Safari or Mail, even if you do not plan to use them. You will need them if you wish to change your default settings in the future.

Remeber winXP? And that little pop-up menu that could be used to browse trought directories (folders). I used it to browse my music folder.
This plugin is about the same. And it is cool, nice addon for gnome panel.
I dont have a clue about pkgbuilds...

Is it possible to set a default path for an item defined as 'File Browse'. I tried the obvious of typing in the default path in the 'Default' section on the Item definition, but it didn't display.
Suggestions...The how-to shows how to setup an item as 'File Browse'. The next logical extension is that my user wants the item to always default to a specific path/file.
So, my user wants the content of the file browse item to be defaulted to C:\upload_files\a123.txt

Launch a default web browser from my java application
Hello,
I have been trying to launch my default web browser from my java application, but am unable do it. Right now, I am using ---- "Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start <url>"); to launch my webbrowser. It launches the browser but displays the command prompt for a second or so, and then replaces my already existing page with the new url.
Is there any way for me to launch the url in a completely new browser each and every time. And I don't want the command prompt to show up for a sec. Please help...!

Default location for file browse dialog
OK, I know this is not solely an APEX issue, but is there a way that one can specify a starting location when invoking the file browse dialog?
I don't think there is a possibility to modify the file browse item. It is a security issue.

Changing the default file manager in XFCE
How would I go about using Nautilus as the default file manager in XFCE instead of Thunar? I know it can be started up with 'nautilus --no-desktop', but how do I make this the default when opening folders from the desktop, menus, etc..?
The main reason I want to do this is because Thunar doesn't seem to remember a folders last setting. For example, there are folders which I would like to permanently view as a list, sorted by date; but there are plenty of other folders where this is not suitable. Nautilus remembers settings for each folder, Thunar doesn't, and it gets annoying changing the view mode each time. Also network browsing is easier in Nautilus, and I also like the way it tells you how fast file transfers are going.
Thanks very much,Well, it might be considered a dirty hack but it has worked for me in gnome before so it should also work in xfce. Just edit the thunar.desktop file in /usr/share/applications and replace the Exec=thunar to Exec=nautilus --no-desktop and save the file. Then any time thunar is launched, nautilus will be launched instead.
Otherwise, you can edit the menu with the menu editor and change the File manager command and do the same in the panel icon properties. Both methods will work. -

AdobePDFViewer.plugin And Default File Name When Saving
When I grab a PDF document from a web page, it opens in a Safari Window just fine, as expected. I get the Adobe Plug-in Tool Bar as expected. So now I want to File:Save As the document that I have grabbed and am now looking at in my Safari window. The File:Save As dialog opens and the document title always defaults to 'downloadDocument' instead of the actual name of the file that I have grabbed, even if the html has passed the true file name to the browser and plug in. This means I have to retype the name of the document before I click OK. What a pain......
I cannot find a preference or other setting that would be controlling this. I've looked through the Safari Prefs and the Adobe Prefs
I should note that I have Acrobat Pro 9.0.0 installed, and I'm running Safari 3.2.1 (5525.27.1) on an MBP 2.5GHz C2D with 4GB of RAM. OS X v10.5.6 totally current.
How do I get the default file name in the File:Save As dialog to be the name of the file I have grabbed?Well, that results in the correct document name appearing in the Save As dialog.
However, it also means all the Adobe tools are gone.
And more importantly, it means that the in-document bookmarks are not available for use. The bookmarks are critical in our application. We work with very long documents (big insurance policies) that have many sections and hence they are all bookmarked so that we can move from section to section easily and find the specific sections, pages, endorsements, etc. that we need.
So, it appears my next step is to "visit" Adobe and find out why they don't play nice?????? -

This sounds so simple, yet I can't find anything about it. I want to make an Exit button in a Silverlight 4 Out-of-browser application. When the user clicks the button, the application is to quit or close or exit. (The same effect as if the user clicks
the red X icon in the upper right-hand corner of a window.)

Yes, the word Page has taken on many meanings in the last 15 years. I'll clarify. When I make a simple Silverlight OOB (out-of-browser) application using Visual Studio 2010, I ask Visual Studio to Add New Item, then choose Silverlight Page. Let's
say I name it Page2.xaml.
By default VS2010 already made another page for me, MainPage.xaml.
Now, here is my need: On the page called MainPage.xaml, I want to place a large button that says Exit Application. When the user clicks that button, I want the application to end and the entire window to close. This is the standard behavior in most traditional Windows
applications, for example in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access. In any of those traditional applications, the user can, from the menu, choose File/Exit. If he does, then not only does the application quit, but also the window
closes itself. The user doesn't have to click the small red X icon in the upper right corner.
That simple behavior of almost all traditional Windows applications, large and small, is what I'm looking for in my simple Silverlight
OOB applications: An Exit command that quits the application and closes the window itself.
