Default files shown in folder.

Lately when I've gone to upload images to a website - craigslist, persay, I click "browse" and up pops one of the many folders of photos on my computer. However, the dialog box that pops up is generally blank and I have to go to the bottom right
hand corner of the dialog, click "All types" of files and only then are PDFs, JPGs, and other formats shown to me. My computer wasn't always like this. How do I make sure that the default view is "All types" of files?

Hi, im not too sure (I thought it was a stock standard thing, sorry) so I'll fust give you the instructions my book has.
To save the curren InDesign Defaults file, Follow these steps:
1, Quit Adobe InDesigns CS5.
2, Locate The Indesigns Defaults file.
. In Windows, the InDesign Defaults file is located in the Documents and Settings/Users/Username/Library/ Application Data/ Adobe/ InDesign/ Version 7.0/en_US folder.
3, Drag the Indesign Defaults file to another folder on you hard drive.
When you launch Adobe Indesign CS5 after moving the InDesigns Defaults file to another folder, a new InDesign Defaults file is automatically created and all prefrences and defaults are reset to their original factory setting.
Okay that's all of it and as far I can get is to the app data, for some reason my notebook doesnt have it and I've been trying to find other ways of getting to it but im having no luck. I would really like to avoid the Ctrl+ Alt+Shift thing because I'll apparently lose any saved settings that I might want to keep.

If you are on a Mac, then the default keys should be in Adobe Illustrator CSX/Presets/en_US/Keyboard Shortcuts. If it's not there then a reinstall would be in order possibly running the cleaner tool in between.

File location dialog has started defaulting to specific server folder

A problem has recently arisen on one of our G5's with Tiger. It occurs during the actions of saving files, or navigating within apps to place, import or export files. When the primary work folder on our server is selected as the destination, or path to a destination, it defaults to a specific folder within. When that specific folder is selected, only one of its many folders is visible.
The path is represented as best I can:
Server/Primary Work Folder/Specific Folder 1/Specific Folder 2
The problem began when the person at this workstation was originally working in that last folder, and has continued most of the time (but not all of the time) since.
This problem doesn't occur on any of our other Macs connected to the server. It happens with many types of apps from different companies. I suspect it may be a corrupt preference file within the OS, but I'm not sure which it would be. It doesn't seem to be a permission problem. We have repaired the permissions on a couple of occasions with no effect on the issue.
This is a new one on me. Hopefully, one more wise in the way will have a solution, for which I thank you in advance.

Thanks for your suggestion, and sorry to get back to you so late after your rapid response. I've just got around to checking the items mentioned in your reference thread on my coworker's G5.
All of the preference (.plist) files of the effected applications are writing correctly as far as the GetFile and PutFile stuff. I trashed them anyway, but it made no difference in outcome. I had also run Preferential Treatment early on with problems indicated.
As mentioned in Mark Snyder3's topic/question, the problem seems to happen primarily in Adobe and Microsoft Office apps (my coworker has no Macromedia apps). It doesn't happen all of the time in these apps, but it does occur most of the time.
Is Navigation Services the only framework that would affect this problem? Would selectively reinstalling Navigation Services with Pacifist be unwise or risky, rather than a clean system installation.
I agree with Mark in his dogged determination to find the source of the problem, if possible, rather than reinstalling; not because I'm opposed from a convenience standpoint, but because of the learning missed if the situation should ever raise it's head again. I'm not a technician, but as a laymen I've learned a lot over the past 15 years about how to solve most of my coworker's and my own problems through the forums and discussions from nice people like you.

Default File and Folder Permissions

Hello everyone,
Is there anyway to set a default file/folder permissions for a parent folder and then if any new files or folders get created within that folder that files use 0644 and folder use 0755? I'm running MAMP for a localhost test site to run Joomla CMS, I have the parent folder set to 0755 but when ever I install a new extension in to Joomla the files are not writable. Is there a way I can set the main parant plublic_html / www folder to work like this for new child files and folders?

How can I stream files from the Default location (the streams folder)?

According to flashmediaserver_3.5_config_admin.pdf (FMS 3.5.3), FMS determines the correct directory to use for streams in the following order:
Virtual directory (as specified in <VirtualDirectory>)
Storage directory (as specified in <storageDir>)
Default location (the streams folder in the application directory)
So I created a folder called streams in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flash Media Server 3.5\applications\vod. I thought this folder would be the default location for the sample application vod. I did not change any configuration settings for the application vod. Everything was set by the FMS 3.5.3 installer.
I copied sample.flv into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flash Media Server 3.5\applications\vod\streams and renamed it to sample6.flv. rtmp://{fms ip}/vod/sample6.flv did not play in the sample video player installed by FMS 3.5.3.
Is this a bug or the default location "streams" folder is simply not "default", you have to set it somewhere in XML?

You can find the location of the cache on the about:cache page (open that page via the location bar like a website).
Only large image and media files are stored as individual files on disk.<br />
Other files are stored in a few large container files (_CACHE_XXX_) in the cache folder and not as separate files on disk.<br />
The individual files on disk have random names without a file extension for security reasons: you can't open an application or start a downloaded virus inadvertently by clicking a file in the cache folder.<br />
You can look at this extension for easier access to files in the cache.

We used an ant script to build an XML file that will contain the files. The script is configured to use the folder structure of our CVS repository.
We'd checkout our XML module and then run the build script and import the resulting init file.
Code to the script is below -- caveat emptor. You'll need to change the folder structure to suit your own environment.

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

1 - no -- iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management

Changing the default file manager in XFCE

How would I go about using Nautilus as the default file manager in XFCE instead of Thunar? I know it can be started up with 'nautilus --no-desktop', but how do I make this the default when opening folders from the desktop, menus, etc..?
The main reason I want to do this is because Thunar doesn't seem to remember a folders last setting. For example, there are folders which I would like to permanently view as a list, sorted by date; but there are plenty of other folders where this is not suitable. Nautilus remembers settings for each folder, Thunar doesn't, and it gets annoying changing the view mode each time. Also network browsing is easier in Nautilus, and I also like the way it tells you how fast file transfers are going.

Well, it might be considered a dirty hack but it has worked for me in gnome before so it should also work in xfce. Just edit the thunar.desktop file in /usr/share/applications and replace the Exec=thunar to Exec=nautilus --no-desktop and save the file. Then any time thunar is launched, nautilus will be launched instead.
Otherwise, you can edit the menu with the menu editor and change the File manager command and do the same in the panel icon properties. Both methods will work.

How do I process all the files in a folder simply?

I need some help with a task I’m working. I need to access a folder filled with 50+ PDF files and put password protection on each one. The files will have specific 6-character names and I want each file to always get the same password. This task would run twice monthly.
                So far I have a working solution with a flaw. In ADOBE Acrobat professional, I created a separate security policy for each of the 6-character names, assigning each a password. Using Batch Processing, I run a JavaScript program to password-protect the files. This process works okay, but the flaw is the need for excess manual processing. I want the process to spin through the files without any further confirmations from me. As it is, I have to push the OK button once for every file in the folder. This is inconvenient. Is there a way I’m missing to accomplish my goal.

The code shown is straightforward and understandable. If you don't intend to use it in Acrobat 7, you may even replace the loop throgh the policies array using the indexOf() array object method (introduced with JavaScript 1.6, supported in Acrobat 8 and newer), to simplify the code.
According to the documentation for encryptUsingPolicy(), manual interaction may be necessary, depending on the policy used. You might look at the policies if you find ways to reduce interaction.
As an alternative, you might look at third party products which would provide encryption etc. (such as the ones from Appligent, which are command line utilities, and are therefore more suitable to be embedded in a process).
