Default Folder - Open/Save

So far my customer service experience has been terrible.  This is a ridiculous amount of time wasting to get a simple question answered.  How do I set the default folder I want Adobe Acrobat look for files I want to open and go to when I want to save files?

You can't.

  • Can I set a default folder for "save as"?

    Hello,
I opened a pdf file attachment to an email by double-clicking it. When I wanted to save the file using File/Save As... , the folder/directory shown was the location where MS Outlook placed the attachment.
I am using Acrobat Reader XI (latest version) on a Windows 7 64bit PC. I could not find any method to change this default behavior of Save As.
Is it possible to change the behavior of the Save As function to use one or more of the following:
    a fixed user-defined folder/directory
the last folder/directory used for the Save As dialog (which should be displayed with the full path) !
the same location where the currently open file was opened (this is the current & only behavior)
It would be most useful if the default  behavior could be selected among these options in the Edit/Preferences... dialog. Additionally, in the Save As dialog these same options should be displayed with the default selected, thus giving the user the ability to change the behavior for a specific Save As operation.
If there is no way to do this (e.g.. with an "undocumented" feature or command-line switch), would Adobe consider implementing this?
    Thank you!

apparently Adobe doesn't give a sh!t about it's users. The possibility to change default behaviour has been removed with the introduction of version 10 and hasn't come back since. For over 3 years people are complaining about this on the forum and are being offered poor workarounds (create a shortcut in your temp folder pointing to your desktop? for fck sake!)
Adobe employees will tell you 'default system behaviour' ******** and basicly tell u to go finger ur bu.thole.
I use to buy their products (adobe creative suite) but the fact they don't give 2 sh!ts about their customers made me pick another vendor.
Best solution i can offer u is just use ANY of the 10.000 other freeware utilities that do offer the basic functionality u'd expect.

  • When I change the default folder to save downloads in the options menu, it later reverts to the default folder even though I have made not changes in options. Any ideas? thanks!

In the Options menu I changed the default download location (folder) to a folder I have on my desktop and saved the changes. But this option reverts to the default folder when I turn on my computer and open FF the next day.

    Thank you for your response.
I do use CCleaner and just ran it. It did not change the download option folder that I had changed from the default so it appears that this is not cause.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again!

  • Set default folder for save

If I am saving an email attachment, Reader XI defaults to miles down in the internet cache, with every attachment. I would love to set it to default to Documents instead (as you can with Office programs) - much quicker navigation to correct folder. Is this possible?

  • Setting a default folder for exports

I am sure when I migrated from Snow Leopard to Lion that it asked me to set a default folder to save files and exports.
I set this to one I don't use and would like to amend it - how can I do this?

Besides the location for Downloads, there is nothing in the OS itself that will do that.
There is a third-party program called Default Folder which I think does something like that.

  • How to Change Outlook Default Folder for Insert-Attachment and Save Email/Attachemnt while Outlook is open (VBA)

    Hello,
    Office 2010 32bit, VBA
Is it possible to programmatically do the above while Outlook is running?  If so, I'm hoping to make that change from a Word macro.
I tried tinkering with the reg key and that doesn't work because it appears Outlook only respects it at startup time. Similary changing Word File-options-location of documents is respected only when Outlook starts.
I'm looking to seamlessly keep Outlook's default folder in sync with Word's default folder as the users change working folders in Word, which they do many times per day (and they chose the folder among a couple of thousand possibilities).
I'm hoping there is a difficult-to-find Outlook object I can manipuate to get to the end result.  IF there is such an Object I have been unable to find it.
    Many thanks!
    Julie

    Hi Julie,
Based on my research, I think outlook object model doesn’t provide the way to change the default folder for insert attachment and save email/attachment.
The way to change it is that we need to modify the registry setting and the outlook app should be restart.

You may create the add-in to custom these actions (e.g. attach attachment, save email)

  • How do I change the default folder that opens when uploading a file to the internet from my mac? (at the moment it automatically defaults to 'Downloads' folder)

How do I change the default folder that opens when uploading a file to the internet from my mac? (at the moment it automatically defaults to 'Downloads' folder)
    For example...
I am on a webiste and wish to upload a photo.
I click on select file on the website
Finder opens and defaults to 'Downloads' folder (it happens with all wesbites)
    How do I change this?

I am on a webiste and wish to upload a photo.
I click on select file on the website
You are attempting to download the picture to your computer not uploading photo to the website if I am understanding you correctly.
To change the download direction, you must do so through your browser's Preferences.  If you are using Safari, hopefully, someone who uses Safari will help you and/or post over in their forums.  I do not use Safari.
    If using Firefox>Preferences>General>Save Files to:

  • Save for Web default folder in PSE 11

On my Windows 7 system, in PSE 8 when I select Save for Web, it defaults to saving the image in a folder I chose that is separate from the one I used in Open.
(Save and Save As default to the folder I opened the image from, and PSE 11 works the same way even though "Save As to Original Folder" is not checked in Edit | Preferences).
But "Save for Web" also always defaults to the folder the image was opened from, even though I have started it in Admiinistrator mode and changed the destination.
That worked to change the default file type from GIF to JPEG, but had no effect on the save-for-web default destination.
Is there a way to set/change the save-for-web default folder in PSE 11?

That makes sense, but it doesn't work for me in PSE11 (though PSE 8 is OK). I get the same result as yesterday, even after rebooting, which I hoped might clear any cached settings. With or without checking Save As to Original Folder, what happens is this:
    - Save to Web defaults to saving the image file in the source folder;
    - if I change the destination to my Web-images folder, that lasts until I close PSE 11, and not beyond;
    - when I start it up again, Save For Web defaults to the source folder (with or without Save As to Original Folder, and regardless of Run As Administrator.
Looking at the folder   C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11
I see that no files show a change in the last several days, so the setting must be elsewhere, in the registry or in C:\Users\... somewhere.  Hmmm..

  • How do I set the default folder for file - open file... ?

When I save a file, photo, etc., the default folder for OPENING a file becomes the last folder I SAVED to - even after closing and reopening Firefox. Is there a way to maintain the same default folder for opening files?
    Thanks.

  • I want to open a domain.site2 file outside the default folder (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb) with iWeb11, but iWeb only opens the domain file in the default folder. If I delete the default domain file, iWeb wants to create a new site. Help please

I want to open a domain.site2 file outside the default folder (User/Library/Application Support/iWeb) with iWeb11, but iWeb only opens the domain file in the default folder. If I delete the default domain file, iWeb wants to create a new site. Does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?

In Lion the Finder folder is now invisible.  To make it permanetely visible enter the following in the Terminal applicaiton window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an applicaiton.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate

  • When using a template the 'Save As' opens the templates folder to save to, not the last used folder

I used to open a file from the templates folder,
add details then click 'Save As' to save it the folder I was using.
Now I have downloaded Fireworks CS6 it always opens the 'Templates' folder when I click 'Save As'
I don't want to make a new template each time,
I want it to open the folder I was last using.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I can't get it to open the folder I was last using whan I click 'Save As',
which is what it did before when I was using Fireworks CS5.
Are there any Settings to change this?
Of course I can click 'Recent Places' but it was easier before when the right folder to save to just came up first time.

Saved files seem to remember their last saved location. So if you create a new file based on a Template, the first time you choose Save As, the location of the source (template) file will appear. However, once you've saved the file to a new location, that new location should become the new default for any subsequent iterations of that file.
New files (not created from a template) pick up the location of the last saved file.
All this is to say, the file saving issue you're experiencing should only be a problem the first time you save a file based on a template. Every time you open that file afterward, it should default to its current folder location. But yes, every time you create a file based on a template, the default location will be the Templates folder. If this feels like a big problem, I believe you have the option of opening a template file from any location... so you could copy or move the template into a more desireable folder location, and create your new file(s) based on the template in that location.
Hope this gives you some ideas!

  • The Save As Default Folder

When you click Save As, the default folder given is the folder of the last save instead of the last file opened. Is there any way to change this? Is the behavior the same in Pages '09?
As a clarifying example, I'm working on a file called Mine.pages and I save it to the folder MyFolder. Then I open a different file called OtherFile.pages in the folder SomeOtherFolder. When I do Save As on OtherFiles.pages, I would expect (and really like) for the folder location to come up as SomeOtherFolder. However, the folder that comes up is the last one saved to, which is MyFolder.

When we save a document, the application is aware of its original location so it saves it in this one.
When we use Save As, nothing informs the app about the destination folder.
    Two design choices where available:
    (a) use the late save location
    (b) use the late open location
Each option has pros and cons features.
Your choice is option (b), the designer's choice is option (a).
You may _Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu_, describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait _at least_ for iWork'10
But please, ask for a pref allowing the user to change the behavior to fit his wishes, not for a complete change which would make some users happy but some other users ungry.

  • Applications Folder never saves Default Appearance Settings

    Dear all,
It seems that my Application folder never saves the default appearance settings. Every time I restart my mac, the application folder is really messed up... It doesn't open in icon mode, the Macintosh, Network and remaining icons appear on the left, and the applications are not indexed by name. Why's that? Any special workaround on this?
    Thank you in advance.

Open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:
    sudo chmod a+rw /Applications/.DS_Store
Press Enter and type in your administrator password; after logging out and back in, changes made to the folder's icon positions and view settings should stick.

  • When I am saving photos from a file, I cannot get the save path to go back to the default folder I want them in. Each save has to be done by going through the path to find the folder I'm saving to.

I am saving photo files from my camera, a drop box etc. I used to be able to click "save as" and the folder I saved in before came up for saving the new image. Now, I have to start way back to the "Barb" folder - to "documents" "images, etc" back up to the folder I save these particular pictures in.
How do I get the "save" to go to the last folder I used - in this particular session?
Everytime you route me back to "educated guesses" I cannot find this particular problem

Firefox 11+ versions have support via <b>browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite</b> pref to disable to disable the feature to remember the download directory based upon the URL.<br />
The browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref doesn't exist by default (it is hidden).<br />
Create a new <b>Boolean</b> pref with the name <b>browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite</b> and set the value to false.
You may have the clear the "Site Preferences" via Clear Recent History to remove already stored data.

  • Open/save dialog boxes stuck at (too small) default size

I've been having a relatively small issue with Mountain Lion that has become a big hassle. In past versions of OS X, whenever I'd resize an open/save dialog box in an application, it would be that size the next time I went to open/save. In Mountain Lion, however, those dialog boxes always default to the smallest possible size (which is too small to read a filename longer than a few characters). so I have to resize the dialog box — every time! I open and save a lot of files, so this gets pretty tedious. This doesn't seem to happen in apple programs, but it definitely does in the Office Suite and the Adobe Creative Suite, especially in CS4 Photoshop and Illustrator. Might be I can fix it by myself but I can't imagine where I may dig it.
