Default "from" email address in Mail?

How do you set which of your email addresses is the default for a new message?   Mine seems to be unpredictable, and I end up sending emails from the wrong address sometimes.
Thanks

  • Default 'from' email address

    Hi,
I use (and prefer) my +dot mac+ email address over the later +dot me+ one. My default email address from my computers when using Apple Mail app or Mobile Me via a web browser is set to my +dot mac+ address.
But from my iPhone, the default +sent from+ email address is the +dot me+ version. Friends and family are asking me which is my 'real' one - and I am concerned that spam filters etc. that are set to allow my +dot mac+ address will block emails sent from my iPhone.
Thus I want my iPhone mail to be seen as sent from my +dot mac+ address. But I can't find any way of altering the iPhone's settings.
    Can anyone help please.
    Thank you in advance

That's done it - thank you
I was nervous about deleting my account from my iPhone, but following your advice, I did so and re-activated as you described.
It re-synched without problem and now shows my preferred email address to recipients.
    Many thanks

  • Default sending email address in Mail.app

I have two email accounts set up in my OS 10.3.9 mail.app. I want the new one I created to be the default so when I compose a new email, that new email is the default one selected. I have manually moved the new email in the accounts window to the top per some tips I found but it keeps selecting my old email address in new emails.
How else can I make the new email the chosen one!
    Thanks
    tj

Whichever account mailbox is currently selecting in the mailboxes drawer will be the account used when selecting New to compose a new message. If no account mailbox is currently selected, the first account listed in the account's window at Mail > Preferences > Accounts is the default email account.
Tiger Mail includes a true default account selection for "Send new mail from".

  • How do I set a default From email address when I write or reply to an email

I have more than one email address. I am using Windows 7. When I write an email or reply to one, Thunderbird always seem to use the same address even if is not the address that the sender of an email used. There must some setting that made this address a default. I would like to change the default. I know I can manually select the address I want, but like to have a different one for the default than the one Thunderbird is selecting.

I understand that you want each of several email accounts to act independently, such that mail for account 1 is sent and received only on that account, then account 2 likewise, etc.
For each email account, left click on the account name and then select 'View settings for this account'.
On the 'Account Settings' page, look at the 'Reply-to-Address' (should be blank) and also select the 'Manage Identities' box, which shows the default name and email address. If the default is not for that account, you can add or edit the entries and set the default.
Back on the 'Account Settings' page, select 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' and check the user name/account there. It should be for the same account.
For each account, the other accounts should not be mentioned in any of the places identified above.

  • HT1277 How do you set a default "from" email address for outgoing emails?

I have three email accounts.  Apple email keeps defaulting to the .me account.  Would like to make my Yahoo the default 'from" account.

    Hi Steve
is Mail - Preferences - Composing - Send new messages from...
set to the required account ?

  • Changing default outgoing email address

So, my AppleID is an @me.com address.  I created when I was still in college and put my birth year into the ID out of frustration that [email protected] had already been taken; for the purpose of this we'll call it [email protected]
I've since recognized the value of having an email address that doesn't broadcast one's age and created a more generic alias in the account, we'll call it [email protected]
Previously, on both my iPhone and my iPad, I was able to select "[email protected]" as the default outgoing email address in Mail, a much easier way to always send from that address without having to manually select in the FROM drop down menu.  Now, in iOS 5 with iCloud, that doesn't seem to be the case.  It always wants to use my main AppleID, "[email protected]"  The only way to change it is to manually select in the drop down menu every single time I send an email.
I've looked through every iCloud and Mail setting I can possibly think of.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Under Settings, Mail,Contacts,Calendars, for each individual mail account, what are your SMTP settings?
When you tap on an account, then tap on the Account Name on the next screen, then tap on SMTP, you will see all the SMTP accounts you have set up.  If you want an account to only use a particular SMTP server when sending from that account or replying to messages received in that account, then you need to set that desired SMTP account as the primary server, and turn all other SMTP servers OFF.

  • How to set default "from" email in Launchpad

Where do you set up the default from email address in BI Launchpad so that when scheduling reports so that this does not have to be filled in everytime?  Additionally, we would want this to be read-only so that it cannot be changed.
We are using Crystal Server 2011:

Log in to the CMC and go to Servers.  Go the the Destination properties of each "Job Server".  Select the "Email" destination and you can set the default "From" address there that should apply to all schedules.

  • Form email. wrong "from" email address

My client website is publish in BC now (webbasic+). www.residences-joncas.com . When he receive contact form from a client the "from" email he receive is: "[mailto:sergewalsh=[email protected]] De la part de Serge Walsh". It is my email address ([email protected]). Why the email is not coming with the email address from the person who file up the form? Is this because the form was made in Muse instead of in BC?

    Hello,
There is a default "From" email address in Business Catalyst, which is what shows in the system emails that come through. Those emails are always sent from BC servers but the email address shows as the one that is added in the default "From" email address section in Business Catalyst. You can change it to something else from the admin console of your site, from the Site Manager -> System Emails -> Default From Email section. Check this screenshot: http://jingsite.businesscatalyst.com/jing/2013-10-03_2210.png
The email for the customer is included in the body of the email.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I set a default Reply-From email address on my iPad/iPhone?

In Mail for the Mac, there is an option under the Compose settings to set a default Reply-From email address for all your emails, so that, regardless of which account any email came from, you will always reply by default from one specific address. Is there a way to set a default Reply-From address on the iPad/iPhone?

[EDIT: Sorry, mis-read question. Ignore me.]

  • Defaulting the email address in From field.

    Hi ,
I am working on requirement to default the email address in from field and populate the eligible emails ID 's as drop down in from field based on some condition. So I need to overwrite the standard emails data that are already coming in from field. Please see the attachment for your reference.
    I did below analysis.
    Component:CRMCMP_CCS_EML
    View:Email header
    Method: DO_PREPRRE_OUTPUT.
I achieved populating the drop down values..by populating the values in   typed_context->mail->gt_default_from_addresses.
But my requirement is to default one email based on some condition. So I populated the default value as first entry in the  drop down list box so that it will automatically default.
It's working as expected if we have personalizing setting for Drop down list as 'Default'.Please see the attachment for your reference. But it's not working if we have settings like 'By Value' and 'By Key'.
Ex: If I have two emails in GT_DEFAULT_FROM_ADDRESS like .[email protected],CC(First entry Default)[email protected](Second entry). if I use the settings 'Default' it's default with [email protected] if i use other setting it's defaulting with [email protected]
Could any one has any idea how to handle this..and options that we have in this case.
Or is there any other field I can default for From Field. (This should work for New ,Reply and Reply all )
I appreciate your help on this.
    Thanks,
    SaraSAP.

    Hi Sara,
I believe that selection is controlled by attribute typed_context->mail->GV_SELECTION_FROM.
So, when you populate the possible entries in typed_context->mail->gt_default_from_addresses, just try to fill your desired default value in mentioned attribute and check if that works.
    Kind regards,

  • How can I find out the mail server from email address?

    Hi:
How can I find out the mail server from email address?
for example: If I know the email address is [email protected],
how to find the pop3 and smtp mail server?
    THANK YOU

You can't tell by the email address since you can pretty much put whatever you want in there (especially if the SMTP server is not filtering anything).
The header may be able to tell you something. There is a Received header value which looks like it has the routing information although I am not sure if this is a complete trace or just the last hop the message took.

  • How to delete an email address in Mail

A friend of mine has just changed his email address but I cannot remove his old one from Mail. I have added his new address and removed the old one from my Address book but his old address still comes up as the default when starting a new email to him.
    Any ideas would be appreciated...Cheers...

Biggest apologies thought I was writing about iOS!?
Am I also wrong about that too in iOS?

It appears because your mail app remembers a history of addresses.
It cannot be deleted but I think it will disappear after a certain time.

  • How to set a default "from" field on outgoing Mail message

i read through the last few pages of this support forum and googled my topic but i havent found a suitable solution.
in Mail v 3 (3.4) there is a "From:" field in any outgoing mail. very useful for those of us with multiple non-accounts and/or .Mac aliases. i generally set a specific outgoing mail server (so that field is removed from outgoing email).
my problem is how to set a default outgoing email address so that my recipients always get from a certain (eg work) email address when i am at work. at work, anything i send, i want to show my work email without always having to manually select the "FROM" field in the outgoing email.
( aside: i had read that Mail version 3 was supposed to auto-select any reply so that the reply would come from the same email i orginally sent as. this does not work on my mac.)
This problem is exacerbated as Mail auto-rotates between my 4 email accounts/aliases (which are all listed (correctly) in the FROM field. it would be great if this list could be fixed with a default FROM address.
eg i send an email from my work email address (FROM: [email protected]) the next email i send will be rotated through my list of .mac aliases. i.e. the next email i send will not be from [email protected], but from [email protected] the next time it might move on to [email protected] or it might revert to [email protected]
any thoughts on how to fix?
i have tried deleting the home/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. that is fine, but any .mac aliases (which i do use, but i dont want to be listed in the "FROM" field) are listed in the "FROM" field, and are auto-switched through my Mail again.
i looked through Rules and Automator, but no obvious help there. any thoughts?

Did you try Preferences > Accounts > Account Information and entering these other email aliases in the Email Address: field, separated by commas? That would give you a pop-down menu in the New Message window letting you choose which alias to use when sending an email.
If you go to Preferences > Composing, there should be a pop-down menu near the middle of that window labeled "Send new mail from:" which will let you choose any email address you have entered in the Account Information field mentioned above, or "Account of last viewed mailbox" as the default.

  • Setting default outgoing email address

I have multiple email addresses that I use in Mail, on my MacBook. Most of them are gmail accounts. Two are godaddy accounts, with personal domain names. I want to have a "main" one (a gmail account) that all my mail goes out from. If I'm in the "wrong mailbox," it goes out from that mailbox, hence getting missed by people, who have rules set up to look for email from my main email address.
So, I followed the instructions, in the help setting, which said:
How to change the default account and "From" address
    Mac OS X 10.0 through 10.1.5
The default account when composing a new message in Mail is the one listed first in the Description column of Mail Preferences. To change this default, you only need to change the order of the names.
    Follow these steps:
    1. Choose Mail > Preferences.
    2. Click Accounts.
    3. Drag account names in the Description column to change their order. The account that is listed first is the default account that is used whenever you open a new mail window.
Mac OS X 10.2 and later
The "From" address for a new message will generally be the same as the "To" address of the message that is currently selected. If no message is selected, then the "From" address associated with the currently selected mailbox will be used, if there is one. Otherwise, the default "From" address will be used as described above.
This is not so, so 10.6.3 Mac OS X. Does anyone know how to make my "main" address the default outgoing email address, whatever address box is highlighted?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!

    Hi,
Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send New Messages From. This will be your default address for all outgoing e-mails.

  • Defining a default recipient email address in Address Book

As far as I can tell, there is not an explicit way to define one email address as a default, if more than one are associated with a contact in the Address Book.
Some things I have tried or considered include:
    (a) using Edit>Edit Distribution List, selecting All, and selecting defaults (doesn't work),
    (b) creating hundred of separate groups for each of the hundreds of contacts with multiple email addresses in my Address Book, and using Edit>Edit Distribution List to select the default email to use for each group (lots of work, lots of clutter, hard to maintain),
    (c) adding the default email address twice and using the one that appears twice in the list (the duplicated email address only appears once in the list that appears when addressing an email),
    (d) deleting all email addresses except one (with associated loss of data),
    (e) cutting and pasting all non-default emails to the Notes field (with associated loss of recognition of those addresses by the junk filter and inability to use them to send emails),
    (f) copying the default email address to the Notes field, and always sending email by opening Address Book, finding the recipient, noting the default email based on what is in Notes, right-clicking the matching email address, and choosing Send Mail (yuck),
    (g) defining a custom email type called "default" to flag the default email address (loss of information about whether default email is Home/Work/Other, does not show up in Mail, does not export to Bento, does not export to FileMaker Pro through Bento),
    (h) exporting Address Book data from Bento to FileMaker Pro, manually adding a flag in FileMaker Pro to indicate the default email address, and always sending email by opening FileMaker Pro, finding the recipient, and sending email from the default email address (must constantly re-synchronize Address Book data with FileMaker without proper keys, difficult to maintain),
*(i )* giving up on Address Book, and send all emails from a FileMaker Pro database (with loss of Address Book synchronization capabilities, difficulty in adding new email addresses from Mail, etc.).
It should not be this hard to accomplish such a basic task.
    1) Is there a direct way to flag one email address as default that I have missed?
    2) Does anyone have any other workarounds or tricks that might work?
    Thanks,

This "feature" of Entourage doesn't "just work"; it works only in the context of what the Entourage programmers have designed, and not what Apple has thought of designing into their system applications. Expecting them to be the same is a fantasy.
Whether or not a feature "just works" is defined by a user's experience. When you view a list of email addresses for a contact in Entourage address book, one of them is bold (the same visual feedback that Apple uses when selecting a default email address for Groups). Adjacent to the email addresses is a button that says "Make Default". If you select a different address and click this button, the new email address turns bold, and the next time you address an email to that contact it is automatically selected when you type enough of a contact's name. It probably took me no more than 30 seconds to figure out the first time I saw it, and it automatically selects the correct default address (the one I told it to use) for years without further intervention by me.
In my experience this feature just works, without regard for which company the programmers work for, even though it "works only in the context of what the Entourage programmers have designed", despite the fact that Apple programmers didn't think of it, and without needing to compare it to any other program.
    Mulder wrote:
You can't do that, as long as you have multiple addresses stored in Address Book for each contact, and they continue to send you email from various email addresses. Mail and Address Book share information, so when you type enough of a contact's email address to find it in Mail, you can select it as the email address to use, but not as a default, since you already have multiple email addresses stored from these people.
I am fully aware that I can't select a default address in the current version of Address Book. But it is preposterous (and a bit insulting to Apple programmers) if you are suggesting that the programmers "can't do that, as long as you have multiple addresses stored in Address Book". In fact, they have already done it for groups. They were also smart enough to find an intuitive way to control the default sender email and default signature for users who use multiple email accounts and signatures.
    Mulder wrote:
If you delete the others and tell them not to email you except from the one address you want to use, that would solve your problem.
That is what I meant by the tail wagging the dog (changing the behavior of not only me but multiple people in my Address Book to get around a missing software feature).
    Mulder wrote:
No, you didn't choose it years ago before Mail existed. Mail has existed for over 20 years, and from Day 1 of Mac OS X, so the idea that Entourage preceded it is nonsense.
Nonsense might be a little harsh. In 2000 I compared several email clients before deciding to go with Entourage. This was a year before Mac OS X was released in 2001. That was when I first heard of Apple Mail, and at least according to Wikipedia Apple Mail was derived from NextMail rather than from previous Apple development. I was using System 6 in 1988, and if Apple had an email program back then I was not aware of it (that is about the time Eudora was first written). I also do not remember running into it when I was in charge of selecting an email client to install on all of our departmental Macintoshes in the early 1990's.
At any rate, what I said was "I chose it years ago (before Mail existed) because...". In other words, my point was that my decision to use a Microsoft email program was made before Apple Mail was an option for me to use on my Macintosh computers.
Mulder wrote:> If you want to make your views about Mail or Address Book known to the engineering team at Apple, you can send them Feedback.
Thanks. I gave up on providing feedback to big companies like Microsoft years ago, but I will give it a try with Apple.
