Default hiding Tools sidebar

Just upgraded to Acrobat DC for Mac OS. One of the dozens of annoying new features is the inability to hide the Tools Sidebar every time I open a new PDF. It's like a cockroach. It's easy enough to close by clicking the miniature arrow. Or going up in the View menu. But it's huge and I would prefer it not to show every time I open up a PDF. I have gone into Preferences and activated Restore View Settings When Re-opening. Open a PDF, close the sidebar, Save, Quit, re-open the same PDF, and there it is, the Tools sidebar again.
I don't want to see this annoying Sidebar, until I want actually see it. Make it go away.

******BUG******
Concise problem statement 1: When I visit this form (wishform) and am logged in to your very expensive subscription service, I don't expect to have to tell you all my info every time.
Concise problem statement 2: When you *require* the version number and it is a year plus eight digits, make it selectable so I can copy and f-cking paste it.
Concise problem statement 3: If you aren't going to let me copy and paste the d-mned version number from your "About" dialog, at least make the dialog *not* autoclose when I switch to my browser to type it in for you. [Do you expect us to write it down?]
Concise problem statement 4: do not keep showing me the "Tools" pane every time I open a document.
Steps to reproduce bug: Open a PDF document. Observe tools pane. Every. F-cking. Time.
Expected results:Expect you to remember (or let me tell you) that I don't want to see your tools...until I want to see them.
(BTW: Concise problem statement 5: don't use case-sensitive captchas! @sshats!)

• How do i change the default hand tool to select tool when a document opens? also how do i get it to open in a single page view instead of 2 pages side by side

how do i change the default hand tool to the select tool when i open a document.
how do i change the view from 2 pages to a single page?

Try setting the check boxes in Edit>Preferences>General for the following:
- Make Hand tool select text & images
- Make Hand tool read articles
- Make Hand tool use mouse-wheel zooming
Adjust these as needed but does it make any difference?

• "Content Editing" is not available when I go to the Tools sidebar--how can I access these features?

"Content Editing" is not available when I go to the Tools sidebar--how can I access these features? I'm using Acrobat X 10.1.7. Thanks.

The headings under Tools are: "Pages", "Content", "Forms", "Recognize Text", "Protection", and "Sign & Certify". There's also a little icon in the upper right that lets me access some other headings under the Tools menu; those are: "Document Processing", "JavaScript", "Accessibility", and "Analyze".
I did think about the idea that maybe the Content Editing was a new feature of Acrobat XI, but I found some resources online (http://www.wikihow.com/Edit-Text-in-Adobe-Acrobat) that seem to indicate this was a feature on much earlier version (the link references Acrobat 8 at the bottom).
Really confused...
Thanks for your thoughts

• Setting default cinema tools reverse telecine

Does anyone know of a way to set the default cinema tools reverse telecine to the following?
*Field 1 - Field 2*
*Style 1*
DD
I want to use the "Tools -> Cinema Tools Reverse Telecine" functionality from within Final Cut but for some reason Cinema Tools doesn't remember the settings above as the default. I noticed that it does remember the "capture mode" settings (Field 1 only, field 2 only, field 1 - field 2, field 2 - field 1), but I can't get it to remember the settings in the "Field" section. Does it even do this?
I'm shooting 24p on a Sony HDV camera and it resets the cadence on every new scene, so every clip begins with three progressive frames and then follows with two interlaced frames. I capture to Apple Intermediate Codec 60i. I've made a Compressor droplet to automatically remove the telecine but sometimes it messes up and a few resulting clips have interlacing erratically throughout. So, Cinema Tools is the best bet if I can get it to work in a batch process instead of clip-by-clip for hundreds of clips!
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

We'll need some more details. Where is your footage coming from? Was it originally HDCAM and downconverted to DV? Was the audio recorded straight to tape or was it synced in post? Is it consistently one or two frames out of sync or does it drift out of sync? How was it digitized? If you open the clip in Cinema Tools and step through it frame by frame do you see any interlaced frames?
There are dozens of things that can go wrong with this sort of process, so it's important to get really detailed.

• Hot to change the default type tool

I got CS6 Design Standard and the default type tool is "Right-To-Left Type Tool". I don't see the way how to change it. I managed to change the default type face and language for new documents but the type tool is switching back to RTL no matter what. Anybody got an idea how to change this?

OK, thanks that is what I was thinking.
For your question, I dont know where you can change the default, but maybe you could dock all your type tools on the side so you can easy acces them:

• Preview.app - make "Move" the default cursor tool rather than "Text"?

Whenever I open up Preview.app, "Text" is the default cursor tool. How can I change this default to Move?

That's because you're opening text documents, so it thinks you want the text tool. Try a jpg.
While it won't default to move, it won't default to text either. Move is only a ⌘-1.

• A solution to hiding tool pane by DEFAULT in Reader DC

After I upgrade to Reader DC, there is always a tool pane when I open a pdf file. However, it is useless for most people at most time.
Although we can turn it off by clicking the arrow or use shortcut shift+F4, it cannot be turned off by default.
I do not understand what those people are thinking. How can they come up with such design!
One VP replied that it may take ~3months to fix this -- this is too long if they really want to fix the problem, only by switching the default setting.
Anyway, after searching this forum, I found one solution by tmmcentyre to hide the tool pane
This is only an ad-hoc solution, but works well for me.
Hopefully Adobe can consider this ugly design seriously, and fix it asap.
I just want to spread this solution so that people like me can find a solution to get rid of the annoying tool pane.
From:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1817184
Thanks to tmmcentyre
Go to the install directory, i.e." C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroApp\ENU". Create a new subfolder (I used "Disabled"). Move 3 files from the "ENU" folder into the new "Disabled" folder: AppCenter_R.aapp & Home.aapp & Viewer.aapp. Open a PDF and no more Tool Pane! I originally moved just the "Viewer" file but if you clicked on "Home" or "Tools" on the toolbar you couldn't go back to the "Document." Moving all 3 files takes care of that issue. Like a lot of people I don't and won't ever use any of the tools. I just want a reader. Let me know if this works for you.

I created this solution because I had problems switching back and forth between "Home", "Tools", and "Document" after applying the move/delete fix:
I edited the XML file "Adobe/Acrobat Reader DC/Reader/AcroApp/ENU/Viewer.aapp" to contain only this line:
<Application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/acrobat/app/2014"title="Viewer" id="Viewer" majorVersion="1" requiresDoc="true"minorVersion="0"/>
What this does (for me):
The right hand pane <RHP> is completely hidden (no unhide available) at Reader startup.
To use a tool you have to switch to "Tools" and select a tool. If the tool places content in the <RHP> the pane is shown. In any case, if you switch back to the document, unhide is available again afterwards, although with no content, except from some tool you might have activated in the current session.
This solution deletes the <Layouts> for the <RHP> resulting in the <RHP> being hidden (and empty by default).

• Defaultly Hiding a Div

Hello,
Sorry for using 'defaultly' but I was trying to get my
problem across with the fewest amount of words. Anyways, I am
wondering if initially on the page load, a div can be hidden and
then when a button is press, that div can slide into view?
At the moment, when the page loads, the div is visible and
you must click to button to make it slide away from view. I would
like to first be away and then to slide into view. Is this possible
with spry?
Thank you,
Braxo

Dragos,
Thanks for the quick reply. I used your method and it did
work, but it had the effect of showing my div on page load then
quickly hiding it. I didn't like the flashes.
So I used a little css to make the div's display attribute
initially set to 'none' so it would 'slide' up invisibly and used a
bit of javascipt to set that attribute to 'block' when the page was
done loading (and the div was already away). So it works great now
without the flashes.
Thanks,
Jesse

• Suddenly spanish google became default search tool instead of russian

hi everyone,
so I described my problem in the topic name.
just few days ago safari on 10.6.8 started to search results on spanish site instead of russian. I made nothing special just was browsing the web that day so I could not reach the root of the problem and its cause.
any suggestions why it happened and how could it be fixed?

of course.
I just followed this link - http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en
there changed the language and saved the settings.
so it's not safari bug at all, something was wrong with google.

• Defaulting Bold in Text Tool in Adobe Acrobat 8

Good Afternoon,
I have a user who has Adobe Acrobat Standard 8. She wants her default text tool to use a bold font. I was able to figure out how to change the default color of the text tool (and keep it), but bold does not stay. Does anyone know how to set the default font to bold in the Text Tool.
Thanks!
Dale

I do not know how you created the PDF. You might try going back and printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Open AA6 and then select the file that way. Does this work?

• How to add default tools in HTML panel?

For my workflow in Photoshop I've created this panel:
using Adobe Configurator. It has some scripts and those default PS tools.
As you know in Configurator is just a matter of drag'n'drop and that's about that.
Is there any way to include those tools in an HTML extension?
I found these lines of code in the panel's xml:
<ps_tool _selectID="penTool" _itemId="Tool-Pen_Tool" icon="SP_VectorDraw_Lg_N" overIcon="SP_VectorDraw_Lg_N_D" toolTip="$$$/Tool-Pen_Tool/desc" scriptID="Tool-Pen_Tool" iconx2="SP_VectorDraw_Lgx2_N" overIconx2="SP_VectorDraw_Lgx2_N_D" click="onClick" cfgVisible="$$$/Configurator/Attribute/visible/value###31" width="29" height="26" iconWidth="22" iconHeight="18" left="25" x="25" y="350">
<eventListeners>
<function id="onClick" actionType="jsfunction" jsFunctionName="ps_invoke_script">

</function>
</eventListeners>
</ps_tool>

which I presume create and call the default Pen Tool.
How could I use the above lines of code and add it to an HTML extension?

I'm afraid life isn't easier without Configurator.
These snips might help:
// Switch Background / Foreground
var idExch = charIDToTypeID( "Exch" );
var desc1 = new ActionDescriptor();
var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
var ref1 = new ActionReference();
var idClr = charIDToTypeID( "Clr " );
var idClrs = charIDToTypeID( "Clrs" );
ref1.putProperty( idClr, idClrs );
desc1.putReference( idnull, ref1 );
executeAction( idExch, desc1, DialogModes.NO );
function stepHistoryBack(){
var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
var ref = new ActionReference();
ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID( "HstS" ), charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" ), charIDToTypeID( "Prvs" ));
desc.putReference(charIDToTypeID( "null" ), ref);
executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "slct" ), desc, DialogModes.NO );
function stepHistoryForward(){
var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
var ref = new ActionReference();
ref.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID( "HstS" ), charIDToTypeID( "Ordn" ), charIDToTypeID( "Nxt " ));
desc.putReference(charIDToTypeID( "null" ), ref);
executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "slct" ), desc, DialogModes.NO );
The Brush thing is trickier, see this snip by Jacob Rus from this original topic:
// a shortcut for stringIDToTypeID, to save typing
var $s = function (s) { return app.stringIDToTypeID(s); };
// Accepts a "features" object as input, with possible parameters:
// diameter, hardness, angle, roundness, spacing,
//     interpolation, flipX, flipY

//     setBrushFeatures({diameter: 10, flipX: false, roundness: 50})
var setBrushFeatures = function (features) {

// get the "type" of the brush, and get the brush's settings. If the type

// no currently known way to set other kinds of brush settings.
tool_opts = (app.executeActionGet(app_ref)
.getObjectValue($s('currentToolOptions')));
if (tool_opts.getObjectType($s('brush')) != $s('computedBrush')) {return;}
brush = tool_opts.getObjectValue($s('brush'));
// the list of features we might pass in here.
possible_features = {
diameter: 'unit', hardness: 'unit', angle: 'unit', roundness: 'unit',
spacing: 'unit', interpolation: 'bool', flipX: 'bool', flipY: 'bool'};
// loop through all the features in the passed-in object, and for any
// of them that match our list of possible features, change that setting
// in the 'brush' descriptor that we fetched earlier, making sure to
// set the proper type of value (either "unit double" or "boolean")
for (prop in features) {
if (prop in possible_features) {
id = $s(prop);
