Default iPhoto Preferences

Does anyone know how to force iPhoto to use it's default preferences? Thanks.

Quit iPhoto, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter ~/Library/Preferences/ as the folder's location, and drag the item com.apple.iPhoto.plist inside to the desktop. Launch iPhoto.

  • How can change my photo editor in iphoto preferences?

accidentally hit InDesign when setting up my photo editor in iphoto preferences.  how can I switch it to Photoshop (which isn't currently listed in the dropdown menu, obviously)?  many thanks,
    BB

Go to the Dropdown and select InDesign again, and the window to select an app will re-open.
    If that fails:
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto preferences will not open

My preferences menu will not open; I cannot change anything! What steps should I take? (I have Version 7.1.4)
    Thank you.

    Try this frequently recommended procedure.
Quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences. Go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.iphoto.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iPhoto; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
    Good luck.

  • When downloading photos from my camera, iphoto will unexpectedly quit. One help suggestion said to try deleting iphoto preferences, but I can't  find them.

Iphoto unexpectedly quits while I am downloading photos from my camera. I logged in under a different name and it worked fine, whcih was one suggestion in my handbook. If that worked, which it did, the book suggests deleting iphoto prefences. But where are Iphoto preferences? I have looked high and low and cannot find them. Any other ideas?  I have a boat load of photos in this primary user log in, so...maybe I need to increase iphoto's RAM, but how do I do that?

Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.

What version of the OS? What version of iPhoto?
How many is a "boatload"? There's no way to "increase iPhoto's RAM"

  • Default email preference change

today without warning IPhoto changed the default email preference to Entourage and all other selections are greyed out... what gives, yesterday I mailed pics via Mail, my choice of email program but today I cannot choose Mail as my default,
currently running iPhoto 4.0.3 and iMail 1.3.11

    Dear Derrick
I had the same and changed the preference-file as follow:
    1. Open the "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" file:
    user-->library --> Preferences -->com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    2. Go to the line where you find the preferenced programm
    3. Add a line above f.e. "Microsoft Entourage" and indicate "Mail" instead of Microsoft Entourage (use the icons on the top of window)
    4. Delete the old line with "Microsoft Entourage"
    5. Save as your file at the same place but without plist at the end
    6. Delete the old preference file
    7. Add to the new file ".plist" for getting the same name as the old file.
    8. Change the library name of your i-photo to force i-photo to look again for the right file
    9. Open i-Photo and select the right library of i-photo
    10. You will see the old mail-icon and you can sent pictures again by mail.
Try it; it works without adding any programm....

Here's something you can try with a copy of your current library.
1 - go to iPhoto's Events preference pane and set the auto split option to 1 day per even.
2 - go the the Events mode, select all Events.
3 - go to the Events menu  and and select Autosplit Selected Events.
which will give you an event for each day.
4 - again select all events (although it might be better do to fewer at a time) and export them to your desired destination via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with the following settings:
The workflow above will produce a folder for each days photos with the date as the folder's title.

I'm pretty sure higher access superceedes, so you could set up a group with no actual access, just to get the preferences working, then their individual security will dictate what they can do. I haven't tested this fully, but I beleive this is how it will work.<BR>As far as setting the preferences, go into the admin console and right click on the group, then select Preferences. To apply the group preferences to a user, add the user to the group, then right click on the user, select preferences and from the upper left corner, use the drop down to select the active preference, in this case, it will be the group you created and added them to.<BR><BR>HTH

I uninstalled and reinstalled both iPhoto as well as Elements.
I spoke with application technical support.  There appears to be nothing wrong with my copy of iPhoto.  However there is no support from Adobe.  I waited for over 1.5 hours for chat support several days ago, and finally gave up.

You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

  • IPhoto Preferences

In troubleshooting my problem of book previews failing (see <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1272199>), I copied my iPhoto library from an iMac G4 to a MacBook to see if the problem persisted. It did, but I also found that while I had no low resolution alerts on the iMac, I had a number of them on the MacBook. Remember the two iPhoto libraries were identical. With the help of an Apple Genius Bar employee, we determined that the book low resolution warning setting in the iMac iPhoto preference file was set at 130 ppi, while the MacBook's was set at 180 ppi; the latter being Apple's current recommendation. I believe that the iMac was using an old value since it has had iPhoto on it from either version 1 or 2 and has been regularly updated. Since preferences are usually preserved during upgrades, the old value was never overwritten.
The easiest way to check is with the application <Pref Setter> available at <http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html>. The application will also allow you to change the value if you so desire.

Launch the Image Capture application and make your preference choices there.

  • I cannot open my iphoto application.  The minute I double click on the icon I get the rainbow which spins forever.  I've used Applejack to repair the hd, but even that didn't work.  I've getting into iphoto preferences..can't.  Help!

I cannot open my iphoto application.  The minute I double click on the icon I get the rainbow which spins forever.  I've used Applejack to repair the hd, but even that didn't work.  I've getting into iphoto preferences..can't.  Help!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • I don't have "Photo Stream" option in iPhoto Preferences

I am trying to get photo stream on my iPhoto on my Mac so I can see pictures from my iPhone 4S.  However, when I look up instructions to do so they always mention the Photo Stream tab in the iPhoto Preferences.  Mine doesn't have that.  This is what mine looks like, and I verified I have the latest
iPhoto version, which is 9.2.3.  We have an iCloud account, and on my iPhone I have a Photo Stream folder.  How do I get photo streaming on my Mac?
    I would appreciate any help.
    Thank you.

In the system preferences for iCloud set it up then in iPhoto turn on PS

  • Iphoto freezes when I open iPhoto preferences

Everytime I open iPhoto and then go to preferences, I get the rainbow wheel and the whole program freezes. I end up having to force quit. I don't know how to get around this as I've rebooted my iMac numerous times and it makes no difference. Am I doomed to never get into preferences?

I figured out what works for me.
Go to System Preferences>MobileMe>iDisk and if you have turned iDisk Syncing on, turn it off.
Go to System Preferences>MobileMe>Sync and stop all syncing.
Go to System Preferences>MobileMe and click 'Sign Out'. Remove your username and password.
If this fails, go to (user)/Library/Preferences/ByHost and remove all files beginning with com.apple.DotMac and com.apple.idisk, then reboot.
I ended up doing both. Going to Library and erasing all the files. As soon as I did that and rebooted, I could go right into iPhoto preferences.
If you can't find your Library folder. Then go to the top of the screen and click on Go in the menu bar
-if you don't see Library there then hold down the Option button when you click on Go and you will see Library pop up. While holding the Option key down, scroll to Library and click on it.
    Hope this helps you.

  • IPhoto Preferences hangs

After I launch iPhoto, I can look at photos in albums, etc. but when I click on Preferences, iPhoto hangs and I have to do a Force Quit.   This has just started recently and about the only change I've made to my environment is a new iPad Air.  I am on a Mac Mini runing OS 10.6.8 and my version of iPhoto 9 is 8.1.2.  I've tried deleting the preferences and cache files and restarting but that doesn't help.   There doesn't seem to be any recent posts on this problem so I'm at a loss.  I suppose I could stop using iPhoto Preferences but I wanted to change the drop down option under General that specifies what to do when a camera is attached.  Another different situation that may be related is that when I attach my new iPad Air, it launches iPhoto which did not happen when I attached my old iPad 2.

If it's not hanging when you trie  iPhoto in another user account on your may it may be incompatible or corrupt preference files in your account.  The following is one way to test that:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and later the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock.  You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
    A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences  folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
    D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note:  keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working.  If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.
Also be sure to have a current backup of your hard drive before attempting.

  • Changing Default user Preferences in Workspace

I am using HFM 9.3.1. Each time I set up a new user I have to get them to log in, and go through the following routine..
Go to File>Preferences. Then Select Financial Reporting on the left side of the preferences window. Under the Preview heading on the screen are two radio buttons for On and Off. Select On and click OK.
