Default Japanese font setting in Linux

Hi,
I'm using flashplayer in Debian/Ubuntu, and default Japanese font setting in flash is kind of crap...
It seems that Kochi font should be installed.  Kochi (東風) font is very old and it is not used so much
as 10 years ago Now Linux users use VLGothic or IPAGothic as Japanese font by default.
My question is,
  - How users can change default font setting?
  - Where/who is the contact address for this issiue?
#I'm also maintainer for most of Japanese font packages in Debian/Ubuntu. In my opinion, Kochi
should be dropped in near future (see package description)

If you don't hear anything about this issue within a few days, please send a PM to http://forums.adobe.com/people/libflashplayer.so and/or http://forums.adobe.com/people/chris.campbell with a link to this topic.

  • What is the Default Japanese Font?

I have upgraded to OS X Lion, and I have noticed that there is a new Japanese font used. In the spotlight and also in Xcode. I'm wondering if anybody knows what font it is.. It's not any Hiragino font or Osaka.... I love it! It kind o looks like handwriting.

Your shot is too small for me to tell what font it might be.  But 10.7 does not have any "Japanese" font other than Hiragino and Osaka, so if it is not one of those it must be from a Chinese or Korean font or something general like Arial Unicode.
Open Character Viewer (Edit > Special Characters) and go to the gear wheel, select Customize and check the box for Japanese Kana.  Then select Japanese Kana in the list on the left and select the first Hiragana character in the list and you can see how it is represented in all the various fonts on the system in the Font Variation box on the right.  Which one do you think is being used?

  • Japanese fonts in osx-java

I am having a lot of trouble displaying japanese through a java app on osx.
I have been told that the problem lies in the fact that there is not utf-8 japanese font set yet on my machine, yet the only info I could find about this mentions only windows and solaris.
    Did I miss something ?
I am using jaguar, set up this morning, with the 1.0.2 version of omegaT, an app for translators.
Thank you in advance for all your suggestions and hints.
    Jean-Christophe Helary

all the fonts you mention are installed properly.
the technical context is the following, although i am not sure what i describe is what you expect, since i am not a specialist.
    i work with mac os10.2.
i have downloaded a java app, called omegaT, that takes an utf-8 files splits it into paragraphs and allows for the input of a text in a different language.
there is no font selection possibility on the app. Neither a menu no a preference panel.
when i create a japanese file that i encode in utf-8 and try to have it displayed in the app the following happens:
    1) the file browsing window does not display names of japanese files properly. they are displayed as squares.
    2) once the file is open all its contents is displayed as squares
i tried to check how other java apps dealt with similar issues. i found a text editor/encodning convertor called SimRedo.
i opened an utf-8 encoded japanese file and the following happend:
    1) the file browsing window does not display names of japanese files properly. they are displayed as squares.
    2) once the file is open its title is displayed properly in the title bar
    3) all its contents is displayed as squares
    4) once a font has been selected the contents is displayed properly as japanese.
    my conclusion is that:
    1) there is an obvious lack of connection between java apps and system fonts. i would like to know how to make this link. i checked sun info (java internationalization) about installing new fonts but the info does not seem to be relevant to an osx setting: they mention a font.properties file that does not seem to be on my system. and if it were to be, the place where i should create one is not explicit.
    2) i could ask omegaT's developper to offer a font selection to solve the issue (considering that i don't know much about java programming i am not even sure it is appropriate for his app)
i hope the technical context is clearer now. if anybody can give me hints i would appreciate.
    sincerly,

    Hi pankaj2008_singh,
the chances that you get an answer for your question in this forum are very little.
Please post your SAPscript questions in forum ABAP Development -> Form Printing.
In spite of the name, SAPscript is not a scripting language.

  • Setting Default Footnote Font

I am a graduate student, and most of the papers I do are supposed to be in Courier New 12pt with 10pt for the footnotes. I have setup a template for this and I have figured out how to do everything except change the default footnote font. Can someone tell me how to do this?
    Thanks!

The footnote appearance is governed by a Style in the Style drawer named Footnote Text.
Create a footnote and enter some text.
Select the text and change it to Courier New 12 pt. Make any other formatting changes you need.
With the text selected, right-click or ctrl-click on the style "Footnote Text" in the Style Drawer. (That should be the style highlighted in the drawer.)
Click on "Redefine Style from Selection".
    Save your template again.
    Good luck,
    Terry

  • Unable install Japanese Font Pack to Win7 English

    Dear Experts,
I need to install Japanese Font Package on Windoes 7 English, however I could not install the font pack FontPack1000_ja_JP.msi due to the error,
"This installer requires Adobe Reader X installed on your system. Please install Adobe Reader X before running this installer."
Even the latest Adobe Reader X 10.1.3 is already installed on the system...
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Here is my pc sysinfo,
    OS Name: Microsoft Windows Vista
OS Version: 6.1.7601  Service Pack 1
    Installed plug-ins:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\plug_ins\Updater.api
        Version: 10.1.3.23
        Creation Date: 2012/04/04
        Creation Time: 2:53:52 PM
    Best regards,

The Japanese Reader version already includes the Japanese fonts, so it is usable for this purpose.  Is this workable for you, or would you still like to try installing the Japanese font pack with the English Reader version?

Yes, it is installed as default installation, I don't know why it's not recognized.
I don't know that either; most likely it is some registry entry that is incorrectly set.
What I would try if I could not get the Japanese font pack installed with English Reader:
    uninstall font pack and Reader
    run the Acrobat Cleaner tool
    reinstall Reader and font pack
If that does not work, then I have no more ideas.

  • Embedfont = true; Japanese font is not working in Flash CC

    Hi,
embedfont = true; was working in Flash CS6 (window XP, 32bit, Air SDK 15.0)
But I moved same project to new system. Then, it's not working. (Flash CC, window 7 pro, 64bit, SDK 17.0).
textfield shows nothing. But if I remove this code (embedfont = true;). Textfield shows texts applied default fonts.
Funny part is English and Korean(My language) Embedfont is working perfectly.
Only japanese font is not working.
I've tried several japanese font, but all of them were not working.
    Any Idea would be appreciate.

Amy~ Yep the lasso tool was what I verified with another user. 'L' seems to be bound indefinitely to loop through different types of lasso tools and it was annoying them because they just wanted L to be the regular freehand lasso. I removed 'L' from being an option on the polygon lasso and even set it explicitly to SHIFT+L as well as set the lasso tool to a completely different keyboard combo. 'L' still cycled through lassos haha. It needs some fixes.
fertolg~ At least you have a workaround for now. I'd go nuts if I couldn't use keyboard text selection writing code, oy! You're welcome and if you're all set please mark correct so we can filter unanswered. Good luck!

  • Japanese Font install

    Windows 7, Adobe Reader X (10.1.6)
If I download the free 'FontPack1000_ja_JP' then I am able to view the doc.
As I'm in a corporate environment I paid for FontFolio_11_1_ESD1_LS1.
After searching and reading docs I managed to find the Japanese fonts (about 12); I've installed all and on opening the PDF doc I'm not able to view but am presented with a popup request to download FontPack1000_ja_JP
I've asked the question on how to install in Unable to view Japanese PDF
    But no luck
I'm in a corporate environment but can I use the free FontPack1000_ja_JP as I have purchased FontFolio_11_1_ESD1_LS1?
I assume I am covered by the purchased license

  • Sending Rich Text Emails - Default Message font doesn't work!

I have just set up Mail to compose Rich Text emails as default which seems to have worked okay. However, I have set the default Message font as 'Arial' and it doesn't seem to work when sent to Microsoft Outlook. However if I set the text to a different font and then back to arial when composing it works fine.
I just looked at the raw source of the email and it doesn't actually state in the HTML that the font is set to Arial by default, only when it is manually changes when composing. It may display correctly in Mail but with more users on a windows based machine using outlook this is no good! I don't want to have to change the font manually every time!
Anyone got a fix for this?

Are there no fixes for this?
In my eyes this is a major problem and certainly something that is making me consider moving away from Mail...

  • Font setting in HTML Conversion Settings not honoured by acrobat

    Hi,
I have Helvetica LT Std font family minstalled on my PC.
In Acrobat 9, when I go to Create PDF --> From Web page --> Settings --> Settings (File Type : HTML), I select Body text font as "Helvetica LT Std" and size as 14.
Now when I try to print any html page (E.g. http://infolab.stanford.edu/~ullman/fcdb/oracle/or-proc.html) to pdf, everything is appearing in Tahoma (eeks!!).
Why is no Acrobat taking the Body font text font setting that I had specified?

You might try the preferences in your browser (as I understand your question). Mine has selections for default fonts and a selection of overriding the HTML document fonts (at least as I read the preferences). For some reason, Tacoma has become the default for MS products from what I have seen. I can't find a font button in IE, but there may be one. As you might expect, IE is far from my first choice of browser.

  • Urgent : Oracle Reports Server 9.0.4.0.0 Japanese fonts

    Hi,
I have one problem in displaying Japanese fonts in Reports Server.
I have installed Oracle Reports Server (9.0.4.0.0) by selecting radio button -
' Use Unicode (UTF8) as the Character Set'
while installing Infrastructure. But I didn't choose any Prodcut Language at the time of Middle Tier Installation.
I changed the value of NLS_LANG to JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16JIS in registry for both Infra as well as Middle tier homes. Both are on same machine. But no able to display the report in Japanese Fonts. It gives me following error -
REP-501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
Could anybody help me resolve this issue ? Its urgent.
    Thanks in anticipation

I would advice you to install a new mid tier with Japanese language.

  • Default Mail Font ignored when using "Mail this webpage" in Safari

This is not really a problem but more of a puzzling irritant.  I often use the "Mail this webpage" option in Safari (the small envelope icon in the tool bar) which opens a draft email with the then-current webpage's URL already embedded in the text area.  Prior to Mavericks when using this option the draft note triggered by Safari reverted to my default Mail font already selected via Mail's preferences pane.  Just as I would want it.  Ever since Mavericks though, when I click the envelope icon it brings up the draft email with the URL as before, but the text font for that note defaults to Times, not my previously-selected default Mail font (Lucinde Grande just for clarity).  So to stay consistent with my other email styling I have to manually click the draft email's Format button, select Lucinde Grande, and then begin typing.  I can find no place in either Safari's or Mail's preferences or options where I can change the default "send an email triggered in Safari" font. Emails originated in Mail properly use the default Lucinde Grande font.
Once I go through the above and send the note, if I later repeat the same "mail via Safari" acion, the new note is again defulting to Times and I have to go through all of the above again.
A companion oddity is that when I go through this and click the Format button once, nothing happens.  I click it a second time and then the font selection options are presented.  This happens consistently on 3 separate installs of Mavericks in our house (two iMacs and a MBP), and it has been this way from OS 10.9.0 through the updates to the current 10.9.2.  Any ideas, or anyone else experiencing this?  Thanks.

    This is very annoying behavior.
I have a sudo work-around, although it's really just a different set of steps. If you use the new Share button (square with arrow icon) than the resulting email consists of a url at the top and text from the page below that. The first line of the email (empty) and the url are in the default mail font. Now just delete the text that was added from the page.
I use this method because it seems like if I do it the other way the new message will sometimes go back to Times when I hit Return a couple times.
