Default Language Keeps Changing

I found and downloaded a Pages template I want to use for a feasibility study I'm developing. The paragraph styles and default spelling language was in French. I've changed the language in the Inspector Text|More tab to English, but it keeps changing back to French. Any suggestions about how to fix this? I really rely on the spell checker in Pages, but the French version isn't helpful for an English document.

My guess is that you didn't define the Language correctly in the Inspector.
When we set it, it apply to the selected paragraph, not to the entire text.
As the original document was set to French, when you insert a new paragraph, it is created with the French setting.
To get rid of that, insert one or two paragraphs at the end of the document, select all of them and set the language to English.
After that new paragraphs created at end of doc would use English.
Inserting paragraphs between two French ones will force you to set English by hand.

  • Spell change language keeps changing to spanish

Running Ubuntu Studio 64 bit and the most up to date version of Firefox (there's no longer an "about" button so I can't pull up the precise FF version)
I set the default language during install to English US.
Initially, Firefox installed spell check for Afrikaans. I kept going into about:config and changing to en_US but it kept changing back to Afrikaans every 15-20 minutes. Didn't seem to matter if I left FF open or closed and restarted, Firefox kept changing the language.
Not sure what is different but the last three weeks now Firefox thinks it's in Cuba. I can have the spell check set for en_US and during a session Firefox spontaneously changes it back to Spanish several times a day. I go into about:config and change it back to English, but then at some point 20-40 minutes later usually Firefox changes my spellcheck back to Spanish.
While I would like to learn Spanish because it's impossible to get a job in California if you're not a Spanish Speaker, I told Firefox to spellcheck ENGLISH and I should not have to keep changing it back.
Why doesn't Firefox respect my choice of spellcheck language and how do I spank Firefox into compliance?

Here is what I just did, instead of deleting the files from ''/usr/share/myspell/'', I deleted the "'''dictionaries'''" folder from FF that links to ''myspell'' folder, and I created a normal folder with the same name (not linked to anything) and inside that folder I created links from ''myspell'' for the two dictionaries I need.
This solution works as Firefox only shows these two dics, and LibreOffice spellcheck works fine.
However, I think FF will overwrite my changes after an update, i have to wait and see.
    Update: Not a good solution.
There was an update to firefox today but it won't update since the "'''dictionaries'''" folder is not the same (link vs real folder) and i was getting this error:
    Error unpacking rpm package firefox-33.1-1.fc20.x86_64
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/lib64/firefox/dictionaries: cpio: rename
So i had to revert it back to what it was to update it.

  • My keyboard language keeps changing

In language and regions, as well as in keyboard preferences i have recently included Spanish - in both cases it is BELOW english, and also in language and regions it says english-primary. I want to mainly use english, and only sometimes i want to switch to spanish.  However since i added spanish, my keyboard continually keeps changing to spanish by itself. For example almost every time i start typing into a new document it will revert to spanish, and i will have to manually change to english in keyboard preferences panel at the top right of the main screen. Can someone tell me how to make this stop, it is really really annoying.

Have you ticked the "Automatically switch  . . ." box? I don't use Mavericks or Yosemite enough to understand what the consequences of the "automatic" effect might be, but I'd untick the box if it's currently ticked to see whether the situation improves.

  • MSI VOX Audio default settings keep changing on startup

I've had this VOX tuner for about a year and a half and I've used it on 2000, XP SP1, SP2, etc...and I've fought with it every single time I reconfigure the O/S.  I am a computer support professional - I know a couple of things about drivers, registry file, etc...and I STILL can't get this thing to work consistently!
Anyway, when I install the drivers and MSIPVS software, it always selects the MIDI synth input instead of Line In as the default audio input setting.  I reconfigure MSIPVS and tell it to use Line In instead - everything works fine.  Then I exit and restart MSIPVS - it goes back to MIDI and I have to reconfigure the audio to use Line In every single time I run the software.  Of course, that means the recording doesn't work - because as soon as I click on record, it sets the audio default back to MIDI synth again.  I've used two different audio cards with this and they all do the same thing (SoundBlaster Live! value and a SoundBlaster Audigy 2).  I've used several different motherboards - I've completely replaced all components in my computer several times and I always have this same problem.
I've got an internal MSI TV tuner card on another machine running this same software - it has the same problem.  It won't exit half the time (the window closes but you can still hear the audio running until you restart the computer).
The hardware seems fine, but the software is unbearably poor!  I'd drop the software in a second if I could find something else that works better.
The weird thing is that in uninstalling, reinstalling, cleaning out the registry, fiddling endlessly -once in a while I can actually get it to work, but I have no idea what I've done to make this work twice in a row.  I've reinstalled the software dozens of times now, reinstalled Windows...I don't know what else to try.
Obviously, I've upgraded all audio and video drivers - none of that makes any difference.
If I open the SoundBlaster mixer program, as I start the MSIPVS program, I can see the MIDI and Line In channels get muted and un-muted but by the time the software loads, it's defaulted back to MIDI Synth again.
Anybody have ANY ideas?  I'm desperate to try anythig now.  I'm considering throwing the whole thing out and getting an ATI tuner or something completely different - as long as it doesn't use this Intervideo software...
    Thanks.
Oh yeah...one more thing I've noticed is that the WinCinema Manager causes all kinds of problems - if this program is running, the channel keeps changing to 1, 11, or 111 - it seems to be sending some kind of remote control signals to change the channels so I've had to disable this program - then the channels seem to work fine (but maybe it's causing my audio problems...?)

  • Why does my language keep changing during texting?

The return and space button on my texting changes language how do I stop this?

All you need to do is to disable all the unwanted keyboards of different languages from Settings - General - International - Keyboards
Now press edit and delete all the unwanted languages. Keep only the keyboard you want and you will not see a globe icon in the keyboard so you won't tap it accidentally
    This will solve your question

  • Change default language without changing country ?

    Hi,
I am a British expat living in the Netherlands. My iTunes store has to be the Netherlands version because my address and bank details are Dutch.
The problem is that the iTunes store and all account options are in Dutch and I can't understand it.
Can I have the Dutch store front but have English as the language for the menus?
I find it strange that iTunes itself is in English but when I goto the store it is in Dutch.

OK - since I posted this, the iTunes forum decided to show me similar posts.
    This answered my question.....

  • Language keeps changing to Spanish

I have done the preference pains for language and region and Keyboard. I have the language menu in the menu bar. For some strange reason after I chanmged to Spanish for some writing, now everywhere I go there is Spanish. I switch to English in documents, Safari and mail and it goes back. What is the deal?

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked
Allow user to administer this computer
Then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Safari Default Browser keeps changing to Parallels IE8

I'm tired of continually switching back to Safari as my default browser. I've checked my IE8 settings and they are not set as default browser. Any ideas?

In addition to clearing the share windows applications with Mac OS X option, you need to:
•Locate your virtual machine's bundle (PVM) in Mac OS X. By default, it might stored in the/<Username>/Documents/Parallels/ folder. I found mine in the library preferences Parallels folder for my user name.
    • Right-click the bundle and choose Show Package Contents.
    • Delete the Windows Applications folder from the virtual machine bundle.

  • IOS7 Reminders app keeps changing color

With the updated version of the Reminders app in iOS7, users now have the ability to set a color scheme for each list they have created.  However, the color of my default list keeps changing back to orange every time I either add a new task or mark a task as completed.  Regardless of how often I manually change the color option back to any other color (I'd prefer red for my default list), that particular list always reverts back to orange anytime the list is modified.  Although its not huge issue, its becoming increasingly frustrating that I cannot set the color of the Reminders list that I use all of the time.
Anyone else experiencing this issue and are there any solutions?
    Thanks!

    Hello SofaKeenGrad,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the Reminders app will not keep the color you select for some reason.
I have a few recommendations for you here:
First I would start by closing all the running apps on the phone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
From: iOS: Force an app to close
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
When you have done that, next I would restart your iPhone.
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists after that, I would try backing up your phone to iTunes, then restore your phone.
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Before you restore your phone from your backup, try setting it up as new, and verify the Reminders app works as expected. Then restore from your backup, and test the issue again.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Libreoffice Not Installing Default Language Pack

I followed the Wiki and installed Libreoffice Calc and Writer. During the install I was prompted for my language (English UK), which I selected. However, this didn't install libreoffice-en-GB, so my install defaulted to something else. Everything worked when I installed the language pack, as the default language had been set correctly, but obviously didn't work without the correct language pack.
    Is this a bug?

Just install libreoffice-en-GB if you don't get English as your default language and change it on language settings.
by default Libre will be using Afrikaans.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How can I set a permanent default language for Firefox's spellcheck feature, so that I don't have to keep manually selecting the spellcheck language I want?

I have a few languages installed, and Firefox's spellcheck seems to decide which language to use ''at random''. So I have to keep manually selecting the language I want. 99% of the time I want English. So how can I set English as a permanent default language, and leave the manual selection for those infrequent occasions when I want another language spellchecked?

Firefox should store the last used dictionary in the spellchecker.dictionary pref that you can check on the about:config page.
