Default Navigation Pane view after Insert From File

For some reason the Navigation Pane switches to the Page Thumbnails after the Insert From File command is used in Acrobat XI Professional. This did not happen in Acrobat 9, 7, 6, or 5.
I've looked through various help material and forums to see if this is a preference that can be changed (i.e., either not set a default and maintain current Navigation Pane view (the method of the previous versions), or set a default to something other than Page Thumbnails (e.g., Bookmarks)) and have not been able to find a solution.
I can use Insert from File up to 200 times in a day, and this little glitch is proving to be very frustrating.

  • Change Insert from File preferences

    Hi folks,
the default for the Insert from File are set to .pdf and therefore I only see a window with pdf files. Commonly I want to see all files and so I have to change the drop down menu to see ALL FILES.
Is there a way of permanently changing from .pdf to All Files?
    Thanks you
    Peter

    thanks,
while it is not a permanent solution it is a reasonable work around - thank you

  • Insert from File puts an Adobe ad in my document

I'm on a deadline to get a document out tonight.  The document consists of 6 pages.  The first two were brought in by my scanner and saved as PDF.  Then I opened that document and used Tools | Insert from File to add 4 existing 1-page PDF documents to the end of my first document.  This seemed to go okay until I reviewed the resulting PDF document.  In place of page #3 is an ad for Adobe Acrobat/Reader.  There is a big logo and then the text,
For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later."
When I try to delete the page, the original page does not show up.  When I re-insert the page, I get the ad.  If I re-insert at a different location in the document, I get the ad.  I've never had this happen before.  What is going on and how can I get rid of it?
    Thanks,
    Dave
    Acrobat 10.1.8

The page is not an ad. It is displayed INSTEAD OF what you want to see when the viewer doesn't understand what to do, and is the best it can do. So check your versions and software. if all seems well a full screen shot showing the Acrobat window and the message may be best. Also, do you get other messages e.g. about installing Flash?

  • Saved Objects are not displayed in designer view after insert

    Hi All,
My HFRS is acting weird today. I tried to insert a saved Object(text,Image) into my report. I have inserted them by (Insert>>Saved Object) but I'm unable to view them in designer view after insert. When I run the PDF Preview I'm able to see the objects on the report. Any assistance? I want to move the text object to the bottom of the report.
    Thanks.

    Resolved it.

  • Can't see design view after changing connections file from localhost to a remote host & back again

I was using localhost to test files before changing the connections document over to a remote host, since I couldn't get dreamweaver to connect to the remote host, I changed back to localhot. My files are all .php files. This is a dynamic site. After I changed my connection back to my local host my design view no longer works. It's competly grey with 3 small icons at the top on the left. I can view in live view and I can view in the browser. But no longer in design view after being able to for 6 months. The 3 icons are a hard drive case, a document, and a link symbol . When I click in code view the design view turns grey when I click in design view it turns white. I am using wamp for the localhost, Windows XP home, Dreamweaver CS5. Can someone please tell me how to go back to design view. This happens with any & all files including non dynamic .html files. Also having a problem connecting to my remote host. using godaddy, and they have tried with me for 2 hours to connect, I just keep getting password is incorrect. Thank you for any help, Stacey

I would also recommend clearing the Site cache, which may help with the connection failure. To do so, choose Site > Advanced > Recreate Site Cache.
After doing so, be sure to go back into your Site Setup, and make sure the FTP address, user name, and password are all correct. (Click the Test button in there to verify.)
If that doesn't help with getting connected to your server, you might try an alternate FTP client (e.g. FileZilla) to just make sure you are entering the right connection information. It could be that GoDaddy is having some issue, or maybe you just mistyped something (I know I do this often when I type too fast).
As for the issue with Design View, try clearing the Dreamweaver cache. Instructions are here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494811
You might also try toggling the location of Design View. That is, when in Split View, choose View > Design View On Left. Then, choose that menu option again to reset the location back to the right.
Resetting the workspace might also be recommended. Window > Worksapce Layout > Reset 'name of current workspace'

  • VISIO insert from file problem

I have been running some VBA code in MS Access for some time (3+) years, but the code is now giving me some issues.  When I wrote the code, I was using Windows XP, VISIO 2007, MS Access 2007, and Adobe Reader.  Since then several migrations have happened to me.  I moved to VISIO 2010 (code still worked).  I moved to Office 2010 which included Access 2010 and had VISIO 2010 re-installed (code still worked).  I then had the full Adobe Acrobat installed (unsure of version, but the code still worked).  Recently, I was migrated to Windows 7, which required a re-installation of Office 2010, VISIO 2010, and Adobe Acrobat (now version XI PRO).  Since that time, my code is giving me problems.  I have the following line of code in an Access VBA program:
    Set shpOBJ = visapp.activewindow.page.InsertFromFile(Stacking_rpt, visInsertAsEmbed
This code is intended to insert a report (named stacking_rpt), on a VISIO sheet as an imbedded report.  That is, the contents of Stacking_rpt is embeded onto the VISIO sheet and shows as a report.  Since this last upgrade, this line of code produces an Adobe Acrobat icon with the words Stacking_rpt.PDF under the ICON.
My boss also had her machine upgraded at the same time.  She runs the same code from the same Access database as I do and hers runs fine.  The only difference that I can see is that she only has Acrobat reader not the full application.  This leads me to believe that there is a setting/option in either Adobe or Access which is causing my issue.  I have reviewed all of the options in both, but have not been able to identify anything that might be related to this issue.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

This is actually a question better suited to the Adobe Acrobat SDK forum:  http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/acrobat_sdk
You are probably just viewing the resulting PDF file from you solution and the way to call Acrobat and Reader is now a little different if you are using DDE.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfdevjunkie/what-developers-need-to-know-about-acrobat-x
Big Changes in the DDE Naming Convention
In the previous releases, it was possible that a PDF file would not open in the default handler if other applications were open. For example, even if Acrobat Reader was set as default handler for PDF files, the PDF files would open in Acrobat if Acrobat was installed and running. This could lead to issues, especially for sandboxing applications.
In this release, the PDF files open in the default handler even if other applications that can read PDF files are open. In the example cited earlier, the PDF now opens in Reader, even if Acrobat is running.
To implement this feature, there has been a change to the DDE naming convention—the DDE server name has been made unique for Acrobat and for Reader. The new naming convention is as follows:
Acroview{A|R}{MajorVersion} where {A|R} refer to Acrobat and Reader respectively.
For example, the name is AcroViewA10 for Acrobat X and AcroViewR10 for Reader 10.
For connecting to previous versions of Acrobat/Reader, the DDE connect string name continues to be “acroview”. You can get the correct name by using the “DDEAPPNAME” macro defined in WinAppSemaphore.h.
NOTE: Any scripts that have hard-coded references to the DDE name will have to be updated.

What suggestions do you have to prevent a duplicate Logins.Login? None of the inserts for all three tables should occur if a login already exists in the Logins table. There should be a message to indicate which Login failed. I haven't yet decided if I want
all of the logins in the text file to fail if there is a duplicate, or just the one with the duplicate. I'm open to suggestions on that. So far, the duplicates only occur when someone forgets to update the tabbed delimited file and accidently runs the procedure
on an old one. I'm sure I can come up with an if statement that will accomplish this. I could maybe use WHERE EXISTS or WHERE NOT EXISTS. But I know I can get a good solution here.
I'm also aware that duplicates could be prevented in the table design. Again, I didn't design it.
I have a tab delimited file created but don't see a way to attach it.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks to all three that replied. I meant to mark the question as answered sooner. I've tried all the suggestions on a test system. All will work with maybe some slight variations. Below was my temporary quick fix. I'm working on switching to a permanent
    solution based on the replies.

  • Navigation Pane disappearing after installation of KB2850064

I have Outlook 2013 professional plus 32 bit.
once KB2850064(32 bit edition) update installed on system, Navigation Pane disappears and it reappears only if it is uninstalled.
I am facing this issue since Jan 16, 2014 update.
Any solution for this is appreciated.

    Hi,
Have you updated Office 2013 to SP1?
I've seen this issue that KB2850064 caused the Navigation Pane to disappear, and a recent hotfix should have fixed the problem. When SP1 is installed, the problem should be gone.

  • Slow view after insert

    Hello,
I have this problem : I insert lot of datas in some tables, I then call a view..and it's very very slow. If I run the Analyze tool...the view becomes fast.
Any clue, other than running analyze after each insert ? I guess there is something wrong.
I have Oracle 8i if that helps.
    Thanks

If you change a significant fraction of the data in a table, you want to re-gather statistics. That's the nature of the CBO.
If there is one plan that you want to force the optimizer to use for this query, you can use plan stability (I think that was available in 8i). It doesn't make sense, though, that the plan for the statement would be the same before and after you re-analyzed the table. Identical explain plans and identical data should yield roughly identical performance. Are you absolutely sure that the explain plan is not changed by gathering statistics?

  • Problem in converting Word Document into PDF after inserting EMF file

    Hi
I have VB 6.0 program, which automatically inserts an EMF file in to MS-Word and converts it in to Post Script file and finally to PDF.
But the Size of the generated PDF file is too large i.e., 8MB
If am inserting an .PNG file in MS-Word and conveting it in to Post Script and finally in to PDF, the size of PDF file is somewhere around 330KB.
I am using Acrobat Distiller 6.0 for this conversion
Can any one let me how I can reduce the file size of PDF, if I insert an EMF file.
    Thanks in Advance
    Vijay Kumar

Saying a WMF file does not mean much. It could be a bitmap with 2400dpi or a vector graphic. WMF and EMF are wrappers that can include both. You may be best to open the WMF in PhotoShop or Illustrator and see if you can get a consistent size, possibly doing a copy and paste to WORD.

  • "old" website is viewed after uploading new files

I cannot figure this out, but my iWeb says (over and over and over) that it is correctly uploading updated files to my host but apparently not. If I go to my own URL to view it only the old site shows up. I have moved the folder where the site is located to the desktop and even temporarily trashed the "old" files and yet only the old pages show up. Any ideas?

Which version of Firefox are you using? It may be how Firefox manages color. You could try this FF add-on: Color Management :: Firefox Add-ons.
Or use web-safe colors as discussed on this site: http://www.iwebformusicians.com/WebMusic/FontsandColors.html.

  • Insert from File command

I have a large document and need to import several other PDFs into this document.
When importing multiple documents in one go can you choose or edit the order in which they're imported?  I ask this because I have a folder with say, 20 PDFs, and instead of importing the documents in the order in which they appear, it imports the last document first and so on.  If any of these imported docs have bookmarks contained within then it also adds these at the end of the document.
I'm using Pro XI on a PC.
Many thanks in anticiption, and merry Xmas!

I don't have an answer on the bookmarks, but have found that the reverse order has been the case for several versions of Acrobat and it nothing new. It can be frustrating.

  • Locking navigation pane - headings view in word/pdf

I'm converting word doc into a pdf and would like to have the navigation pane - headings view automatically displayed when opening the pdf. Right now I have to do it manually, i.e. open the pdf, go to view, select navigation pane, etc. Is there a way I can lock navigation pane view?
    Thanks,
    karolina

If by "headings" you mean bookmarks, you can set up the document to display them when it opens: File > Properties > Initial View > Navigation tab > Bookmarks Panel and Page

  • How do I hide the Navigation Pane by default in a programmable way?

    Hi guys,
I am looking for a way to make a PDF file not showing navigation pane when it is opened, in a programmable way.
I have referred to the PDF references, and found a ViewerPreferences dictionary which can control the viewer appearance, and there is a entry
    Key
    Type
    Value
    HideWindowUI
    boolean
(Optional) A flag specifying whether to hide user interface elements in
the document’s window (such as scroll bars and navigation controls),
leaving only the document’s contents displayed. Default value: false.
But after I specified the HideWindowUI with true, the navigation pane is still showing up with the bookmark expanded.
I know there is a way by specifying the opening parameter with "navpanes=0" with command line or change the windows registry. But I can't do this because I can't ask every of my customers do this way.
Could someone provide suggestions or insights on that?
    Thanks!

    Hi Rave,
I have ever seen this method before, but it can't address my problem. I can't ask my customers to change their registry, cause I even don't know who they are...
What I can control is just the content of the PDF file.
    Thanks anyway!
