Default Photo is accidentally deleted?

When I set up my Macbook, I took a picture. Just now, System Preferences/Accounts/Picture, I clicked on a different picture and now I can't get back the original one I had- the one that appears on my emails. Where did it go. I thought I had to click on the lock to change it.

Yes, you saved that one, pattijor ...
... However, when you made the "different" account picture as you explained in your original post, the first picture was deleted and the new picture was saved in its place. You cannot get the first one you made back, but you CAN take other snapshots until you get one you like. You can even try to duplicate the original if you want.
When you get one you like, if you want to keep it even if you eventually change your account picture, go to picture file in the Caches folder Steve told you about above. (To be certain you have the right picture, you can view the Account picture with Preview by double clicking on it.)
After you find your current Account picture, you can use Preview's "Save As" menu command to save a copy to your Home/Documents or Home/Pictures folder for safe keeping. You could even use iPhoto's "Import" command to save it in iPhoto if you like. (However, NEVER manually put this or any other file in your iPhoto Library. Let iPhoto do that work for you or you risk damaging your iPhoto database.)
Be aware that the Library folder Steve writes about is your computer's Library file in the top level of your Hard Drive. The "Library" folder Steve identifies is different from the "Library" folder in your "User" or "Home" folder. In general, be careful when working outside your Home/Documents. Follow directions carefully because it is generally a bad idea to move, modify, rename, or delete any item outside your User > Documents folder unless you are an experienced OS X user.
By the way, Mail always uses your account picture, so your "email picture" will change whenever you change your Account Picture. As you probably know, only YOU see the picture in your Mail. Unless you add a copy to your Mail, that picture is ONY on your Mac's Mail and is NOT sent with your Mail.
Please let us know if you need any other info before you can mark your topic "Answered."

EZ Jim

  • Geotagged a folder of ~200 photos then accidentally deleted folder.  How to recover geotagging data?

I had a folder of around 200 photos that I imported into Lightroom (Version 3.6) and manually geotagged using Lightroom with Jeffrey Friedl's Geoencoding Support Plug-in.  This took several hours of work in Google Maps, determining where each photo was taken then individually labeling each photo with the exact GPS coordinates in Lightroom, so it was pretty annoying when I realized that I accidentally deleted that folder earlier this week in an attempt to free up some space on an external hard drive.
I *do* have two back-ups of the same photos that were in that folder, however -- one on another external hard drive and one on a laptop -- but the photos in those folders are untagged and don't have any of the geotagging data that I manually applied to the ones in the other (now deleted) folder in Lightroom.
When I go into Lightroom now and look at Previous Import it shows thumbnails of all the deleted images along with the text "The file named (imagename.jpg) is offline or missing."  However, in the Metadata panel on the right under "Geoencoding" I can still see the GPS coordinates I applied to each of the photos.  I could individually write down each of those sets of coordinates along with the numbers of the images they belonged to and then manually type in all those coordinates for the 200+ photos in the folder with the untagged photos but it seems like there has to be an easier, faster way to do this.  Is there?
Let me reiterate what I'm asking.  I have 200 photos in Folder A on one external hard drive and the same exact 200 photos in Folder B on another external hard drive.  I manually geotagged all of the photos in Folder A using Lightroom but then accidentally deleted Folder A.  I still have all the same photos in Folder B but without the geotagging data.  I can still view the geotagging data of the pictures that were in the now-deleted Folder A in Lightroom.  Is there any way to transfer that data to the same pictures in Folder B, using Lightroom or any other program?
Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Outside LR, just copy Folder B back to the same place as Folder A was, and make sure it has the same name as Folder A. That's it. You haven't lost the metadata, including the geotagging info....that's all still in the catalog. But because you've deleted the folder outside Lightroom, you get the "File is offline or missing" messages (in fact if you look in the Folders Panel you should see Folder A listed also with a '?' mark).....so just putting the folder back in place should fix the issue.

  • How do I restore some photos I accidentally deleted on my ipad

I was working on a project on I movie and accidentally deleted some of the footage I needed to keep. I had backed-up my ipad yesterday so am wondering whether to delete all my files and then to re-install from back up but am worried that I will then lose the project I have worked on?

The only photos you can delete from the iPad directly are the photos in your Camera Roll.  To do that, select the photo and tap Delete.
Other photos, for example in an album or in Photostream, cannot be deleted directly from the iPad.  For photo albums, you have to delete the photos from your computer.  For Photostream, you cannot delete photos individually... you have to delete the entire stream.

  • How can you restore photo stream photos back to Apple TV after accidentally deleting from your iPad

After accidentally deleting photo stream  photos on my iPad, this deleted photo stream photos on my Apple TV.  How can I restore these photos back to my Apple TV and also to  my iPad?  Suggestions welcomed

If you have a backup of your iPad prior to the date of deleting your photos, you can find them. Otherwise, you might be able to find them.
If you do have this backup, then you'll have to restore your iPad to that point.
If you had a Mac with iPhoto, then when you connected your iPad, iPhoto would store the photos separately from Photostream.
I despise Photostream. It's turned off everywhere on my system. It is one of the most useless pieces of junk that Apple has foisted on my Mac and iOS. But hey, that's just my opinion.

  • What can i do if i accidentally deleted my iPhoto from my macbook air and the App Store couldn't recognize that i have bought it before and required me to buy it again ... should i buy it again or what ? i can't manage my photos now ...

Log into the app store using the Apple ID you used to set your computer up. Look under purchases. If it is not there you may need to accept it or to unhide it

  • How can I recover photos that were deleted accidentally?

    I am using iPhoto 6.0.6
I accidentally deleted a folder of photos in iPhoto and then emptied the trash from within the program. Is there any way to recover these files? I have not emptied the trash from finder, but I have closed iPhoto.
Is there any possible way to recover these files, either using an option from within OS X or a 3rd party solution?

Don't you have a backup of your library you can recover those photos from? The Finder trash is not connected to iPhoto's trash bin. If you emptied iPhoto's trash then the photos have been deleted from the hard drive. You can run the of SubrosaSoft FileSalvage in it's demo mode to see if it can find and recover those photos before you purchase it. Others have had success in recovering photos as long as there hasn't been a lot of new files added to the HD that might overwrite those files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Hey guys i just wanna ask you if you know any way how to recover pics deleted from my camera rol and photo stream, i deleted accidentally without backing it up on icloud, any ideas how i can get it back

hey guys i just wanna ask you if you know any way how to recover pics deleted from my camera rol and photo stream, i deleted accidentally without backing it up on icloud, any ideas how i can get it back

If you deleted them from both PhotoStream and the camera roll, and you don't otherwise have them backed up, they're gone.

  • I accidentally delete all my photo in the "all my files". How could I back up all the photo? (time machine is turn off)

I accidentally delete all my photo in the "all my files".
actually I delete every thing in ALL MY FILES.
How could I back up all the photo?
and other data, such as movies and so on?
Do I need to go to Apple store to back up?
    (time machine is turn off)

If you don't have a back up then you'll need to use a file recovery app like File Salvage
To back up iPhoto you make a copy of the Library on another disk.

  • Help - "All Photos" album cannot be regenerated after accidental deletion

I accidentally deleted the "All Photos" album in my Aperture db.
I tried William Lloyd's instructions from another discussion (see here - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7323811&#7323811 )
...but that did not work for me:
all I see now under Library for the built-in albums are these:
    All Projects
    * or better
    Rejected
    In the Last Week
    In the Last Month
Is there a way to fix this?

Try turning on buffering for Scenarion Sales in the table T77OMATTR. This should help solve you issue.

  • How to recover photo that i deleted accidentally while i was trying to upload the photo on the phone??

how to recover photo that i deleted accidentally while i was trying to upload the photo to the computer??
also, itn't itune will backup myself whenever i sync???Will the old back up file got updated when i connect the phone with computer??

I don't think recovery software will help since the file isn't just deleted, it's overwritten.  If you want to try, the backups are located at one of these locations:
    Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
    Windows XP: %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    Windows Vista: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    Windows 7: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

I accidentally deleted photo files, is there any way to undo or retireve them?

I spoke too soon! The Picassa 3 photos do not import well into my elements
program!  I just don't understand why, when I accidentally deleted the
files from elements, they don't show up in the trash bin. I looked/searched for
the pictures...they seem gone! Is it time to call in a tech? I really
appreciate  your help with this, you can imagine how distraught it is to lose
    about 6,000  pictures!!!

  • Cannot open any photos/movies in Entourage, message comes up saying 'folder cannot be found'. Last week I deleted lots of old documents/downlods and fear that I have accidentally deleted file that opens photos/movies.....any suggestions???

I cannot open any photos/movies in Entourage, message comes up saying 'folder cannot be found'. Last week I deleted lots of old documents/downloads and fear that I have accidentally deleted what is needed to open photos/movies.  Any suggestions please? Should re-install the whole Office:mac program, and is it easy to do this without disturbing what I have on my computer?

When you password-protected these folders then you did so to prevent anyone from accessing the pictures unless he had the correct password, even if he deleted the password application itself. Are you now asking how to get around this protection? If you
selected a robust protection scheme then you probably got what you wanted: uncrackable encryption. You need to check the FAQs of this application and/or google for clues. Alternatively you could restore your files from your external backup medium (if you have
    one . . .).

  • Accidentally deleted photo booth (and other preinstalled apps) on ipad

I think my little one deleted FaceTime, Photo Booth, Camera, and a couple other apps on our new iPad. How can I get them back?

I'm puzzled why Time Machine didn't work.  You can open the Photo Booth app from the applications folder in Time Machine ( it took a long time for the folder to start operating, but after about a minute wait the applications folder worked just like the on on the current desktop) from your last good system.  You don't have to completely restore the whole system.  Just open the app in the Time Machine folder, and you should be good to go.  I accidentally deleted Photo Booth yesterday, and restored it today by opening the app from Time Machine of a few days ago.

  • Photo booth - restore accidentally deleted photos

i somehow accidentally deleted all of my photo booth photos. i attempted to restore them using suggestions on forums but nothing worked. i eventually thought i found some solution when i right clicked on 'photo booth library' in my pictures folder and opened 'show package contents' i then dragged all of my photos that i'd recovered from the trash into the 'pictures' folder where photos i had just now taken on photo booth were - opened photo booth and my old photos still weren't there.
can anyone help me with this issue?

Did you use Sherlock to search?
Did you check your Applications folder?
If yes to the above then you can custom install Photo Booth from DVD #1 that originally came w/your computer. Photo Booth should be inside the *Bundled Software* folder. If not there, check the Applications folder.
If you still cannot locate PB on the DVD you will need to use Pacifist
    Pacifist Usage Instructions
Also see Kappy’s detailed How to Use Pacifist to Replace Deleted or Missing OS X Components instructions.
