Default printer/scanner settings

Hello all,
I have a Canon pixma printer/scanner, and would like to change the default scanner setting.
Everytime i open the scanner the default scan folder is pictures, i would like to change this default. Does anyone know if it is possible to change this, and if so how i can change this?
Thank you,

Hello jbcdw
Did this happen after a firmware update? Does the printer see the wireless network and connect, but still won't print or scan? What operating system are you running and what did the Print and Scan Doctor say? Or did everything pass?
Try accessing the EWS. To do so open a web browser and type "HTTP://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/" where the X's are your printer's IP address (network address) and press enter. If the web page loads then the printer is connected to the network.
Let me know what happens.

  • How to make Firefox reset printing to Default Printer and Settings at Startup

Earlier versions of Firefox and most Windows programs that I know of, start by using the default printer with default settings. If you change them, they stay changed for that session, but once you close the program and re-start it, you are back to a clean slate. V3.6 of Firefox now remembers settings such as portrait/landscape, zoom settings, etc. I find myself throwing out paper because I zoomed in on a certain document on Friday, then on Monday inadvertently print 20 pages of a normal page because Firefox remembered the zoom and I forgot about it. I would hate to HAVE to do a print preview EVERY time I printed because I couldn't count on the default settings. Thanks for your help.

Here's a great link with a fix that worked for me.

  • Changing default printer size settings

I have a PSC 1610.  Since I printed off some 4x6 photos, the default setting now is 4x6.  I can temporarily change to letter size via HP Solution Center. How do I change the default settings to letter?I

    Go to http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/
Click on your printer. Make sure it is the printer, not the scanner if you have an all-in-one.
Chose "Set Default Options." Change the size there.

  • Any way to override default printer settings into a PDF

Hi -- I work for a large organization that has lots of computers and printers and prints a lot of forms and documents.  We are moving towards more digitization of documents and records including printing forms as needed as opposed to having large sets of forms onhand.  This should save us a lot of time and money once complete as these forms often change and the old process would be to then trash much of these documents and re-print for just one change.  The majority of our printers do have letter & legal trays as well as duplex support, however due to the vast number of users the default printer settings tied to each user and/or computer may be slightly different.  While standardizing all the printer settings across all users/computers would be one solution, we don't anticipate doing this as depending on the job peformed the different settings may be more preferable / advantageous for that user.
As such the other solution I can think of is to hardcode the specific printer settings needed to correctly print a large document into that PDF file which may differ from that computer's print settings.  For example, the default computer print settings may be to print on just 1 side but duplex would be encoded / scripted directly into the PDF so IRREGARDLESS of the computer/printer settings this document would always print duplexed.
Is there anyway to do this?  I would need to do more than just duplexing -- ie some form sets would need to be both duplexed and 'fit to printable area' whereas some would need to be only on one page and 'shrunk to printable area', etc, etc.  Our current practice is to insert a 1 page coversheet at the front of each document with the printer settings that need to be used for that form set, however this has been difficult for some users to do and has caused unnecessary time with our IT troubleshooting form printing.

    Hi Brandon,
You can use the Print Presets in Acrobat for that purpose. Please follow the steps below:
    1. Open the PDF in Acrobat
    2. Open Document Properties dialog (using Ctrl + D)
    3. Select the "Advanced" tab
    4. In the "Print dialog Presets" section, you can choose DuplexMode as well as Page Scaling for this document.
Please let us know if this works for you
    Thanks,

  • Default printer settings for HP Deskjet 882c

All I want to do is set this printer to print in black and white by default. If I wanted color, I would use my other printer ... I want faster than a snails pace so I brought this one back out.
Being a PC for my entire life, this should be an easy thing to set the default print settings on the printer. I don't see them!
What I am printing is emails off hotmail ... tons of them ... going back months ... so please don't ask me to add an additional step here ...
Pulling my hair out here ... help would be lovely!

You are on the right track for sure. The claim code is in fact printed in blue, so if your color inks are low or empty it will not show up.
I noticed there are 2 version of the 6500A, I will go under the assumption that you do not have the 'Plus' version since you didn't specify this, shouldn't be a big discrepancy either way (let me know if I am wrong).
Viewing your ink levels is covered here, your Cyan ink cartridge could be empty : http://goo.gl/RjIhbp
You can still find the claim code on the front panel of your printer without color ink. Go back to web services on your printers display and it will show your "*@hpeprint.com" email address. The prefix before the "@" is in fact your code.
Also note that your code has most likely expired, which happens after 24 hours of being generated. Not a big deal. If your code has expired you will have to reset the web services in your printer, this will generate a new printer code. You can do this easily from the front panel of your printer.
Follow this link and expand the section “What if I lose my printer code before registering?” under “Frequently asked questions (FAQs)”
    http://goo.gl/0WUyIe
(*a note on step 4, some firmware updates may have simplified this entire step to be simply “remove web services”)
After enabling the web services again the printer code area will still be blank if you are out of cyan ink.
Regardless the new code will display on the front panel (under web services).
I hope this gets you going with ePrint. Let me know if you are having issues printing in color beyond this, or if you are still experiencing difficulties with ePrint.

  • Printer Queue Settings Mysteriously Reverting Back to Default Settings on 2008 R2 print servers

Printer Queue Settings Mysteriously Reverting Back to Default Settings on 2008 R2 print servers
We have 4 Windows Server 2008 R2 print servers, all of which has the same printer queues installed on them that are utilized by a 3rd party printing program that does a round-robin load balancing scheme.
All printers are a combination of HP and Xerox all running some variation of the HP UPD and the Xerox UPD.  Some use the PCL 5 and some use the PCL 6 version determined by age of printer and need.
There are typically two printer queues for each physical printer.
    Example:
    LOCATION_ROOM
    LOCATION_ROOM_TRAY2
The regular queue is ok being left with default setting,
The _TRAY2 queues are set to print to "labels" or "pre-printed" paper type or a specific tray.
From time to time, these _TRAY2 queues will revert back to a factory default state and lose the setting to print to a specific paper type or tray.  Sometimes it happens to the _TRAY2 queue on all 4 servers, sometimes just 1 server, etc.  No rhyme
    or reason.
Disabled Bi-directional options on both the HP and Xerox UPDs per another article on the internet that said bi-directional could cause the printer to send back settings to the driver and cause this issue.  Even with this option off, we continue to see
printer _TRAY2 queue settings revert back to factory default and lose their specific paper and tray settings.  We have ruled out the possibility that users or other technicians are the ones making these changes so we suspect it is some interaction between
the servers, printer drivers and printers themselves causing the issue.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start by using one of the print drivers included in Windows for a few of the printers and confirm it's the universal driver that is causing the issue.
HP installs some other processes and services on the machine which communicate with the HP devices.
PML and something else.  You might want to shut those down and see if these processes are the ones modifying the settings.
Run process monitor to truly identify which processes is causing the modifications.

How can I set the default print settings of my document as color.  I want the default print setting to be color when someone opens a document.  similar to duplex print preset is there a color print preset?

    Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

  • I want to set default printer settings to be used only for a specific type of application, certain documents. All other print jobs should use a different default setting for the printer.

I am printing a specific document from a web based application. This document need to be printed in landscape. So I would like to set the default settings for this specific printer to landscape. But for all other printers it should be portrait. But this does not seem to work. The browser picks the settings from the standard/default printer and uses this for all print jobs.

I need to change my default print settings to black and white. I've changed it in the print dialog box to grayscale, but when I print coupons, that box doesn't come up; it just automatically prints in color. • Push default printer settings from server - setprinter.exe ?

    Hi,
I need to push out some new default printer settings (mono and duplex) for 300 printers across about 12 x 2003/2008 print servers.  All of these devices are already mapped by around 2500 WinXP/7 users, so reconnecting the devices for everybody is not
an option, nor is redeploying via GPO.  I've read the following thread, which appears to explain what I need to do:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverprint/thread/a0a9bb3f-db24-417d-9905-c310d068d3c6/
Firstly, I need the latest version of setprinter.exe, as the one I've got is date stamped April 2003, which I assume is the one that fails to work with devmode 9.  Does anybody know where I can get this from?
Secondly, I think it says that the clients will periodically update themselves with the server's default settings.  This is perfect, if correct.  However, would anybody please be able to explain when these periodic updates take place?
    Many thanks in advance !
    Andy

    Hi,
There is a tool named "setprinter.exe" tool in the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit.
Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit can be downloaded from the link below:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9D467A69-57FF-4AE7-96EE-B18C4790CFFD&displaylang=en
As far as I know, there is no Windows Server 2008 Resource Kit for download, some of the MS Press have some books include Windows® Server 2008 Security Resource Kit
     http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/book.aspx?ID=11841&locale=en-us
Windows Server® 2008 Resource Kit (bundle)
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/book.aspx?ID=10345&locale=en-us
You may find ll the entire RESOURCE KIT on CD attached with the book.
    Windows Server 2008 R2
    ==================
No resource kit Tools & Support tools are available for 2008R2...everything is on the OS already
Secondly, I think it says that the clients will periodically update themselves with the server's default settings.

  • Default Printer Settings

Am just setting up my first Mac. Have connected a Brother 5150D printer which works fine both on Mac and on wireless network but..... as most of my printing is duplex (to save paper) I want to set this as the default and get two-sided printing each time I click the print icon in Office Mac or any other application. I have set up the printer and gone to http//:127.0.0.1.631/printers and set the parameters to duplex - no tumble and set the duplex option in printer preferences/layout. Despite these default settings when I click the print icon it always prints single sided. The only way I can get duplex printing is to click file/print/copies & pages/layout/2 sided/long edge binding and hit print. I have restarted the Mac after changes, recycled the printer, deleted and reinstalled the printer but the icon default seems to remain insistent on printing single sided
    Help please!!

    Hello dgcornett,
Depending on which printer that you have, the software interface to change the default print settings could vary. You can click the link below to view steps to change the settings on the Photosmart 7510 series printer, which is a recently released printer.

If you can specify the printer that you have, more specific steps can be posted.
