Default Printer Settings In Microsoft Office For Mac
I have some problems printing in Microsoft Office. I intend to set up the printer to print double sided and also in color. I've done the neccessary settings in the application and saved the preset as the default preset to print.
The problem i am facing now is that in Microsoft Word or any other Microsoft Office program for MAC, when i select File - Print, the printer prints correctly. But when i simply click the print icon in the application itself, it prints wrongly i.e no double sided and in black and white.
After some tinkering around, i also found out that if i were to print by selecting File - Print first and then subsequently directly selecting the Print Icon i wll get the correct printer setting which i have setup. But if i were to close the document and open it again, it would print wrongly if i were to directly select the print icon in the application. I tried using textedit to test out the print setting and it prints corectly though there is no option to select the Print Icon directly instead of choosing File - Print.
Is this behaviour normal or is it not supposed to be in this way?
Any adviced appreciated. Hope my explaination is not too confusing. Did searching the forums but unable to get the right direction.

I am pretty sure this is the behavior of applications that have a Print icon that bypasses the Print dialog. It uses either the default for the printer or the last setting used, if it was used in the current session of the application.

A couple of ideas... when you exported the document did you check "do compatibility check" for Word? If not that's probably it. Other solutions: - OpenOffice, or NeoOffice play well with MS Word. Either of them are free downloads. -

In Microsoft Office for Mac, how do I highlight sentences or parts of sentences so that the highlighting will show when I print the documeht?
It can depend on the version of Office Mac which we don't know. v2011 is much different from v2008 and earlier. In Word 2008, the highlight tool looks like this in the formatting toolbar:
Default highlight color is yellow. If you cannot find that icon or have a newer version of Office, you really need to ask how to get it to a toolbar in the MS Office:Mac forums at Csound1 suggests. They are very helpful. Find them here:

Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and Microsoft Office for Mac 2011
I do not have Acrobat available in the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 task bar. (Mac OS 10.8.3)
I have searched, and my understanding is that these two programs are not compatible. Has a plugin or something been developed to do this?
What functionality is missed by not having this?

DonnaThere's no plugin for the Mac version of Office, but you can still use Acrobat by printing to the PDF Printer to generate a PDF from your Office files.

I have recently installed Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro (2011). I have also recently got Microsoft office for Mac 2011. Can somebody please advise if it is possible to use (install) office for mac 2011 on this windows 7 that i have installed. If possible, how to do it?
No it is not possible.
You can use office for mac, on OSX, but not on windows.
You need to use the windows version, on windows 7. -
I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported. How can I access all of my save Word documents? I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004). If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?
Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.

Microsoft Office for Mac open recent File menu option causing AFP to crash
Hi all,
We have an Xserve running Mac OS X Server Leopard 10.5.8. The Xserve hosts three file shares for about 60 users. Our network is 99% Mac based running mostly 10.5.8 with a few 10.6.x. We have historically over the past several years had the AFP service become unreliable and crash frequently. Late last week the AFP service crashes constantly. The quick solution to getting it up and running is to delete the AFP.conf file in /etc.
We have troubleshot one cause of AFP crashing to the Open Recent... File menu option in Microsoft Office for Mac applications. That is, through some amount (haven't been able to narrow it down to how much) of opening documents on the share via the Open Recent menu the AFP service will crash.

Our solution is to have all our users turn off the open recent option in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Not an ideal solution but it may get the AFP service running "good enough."
Has anyone had an experience like this before or can anyone duplicate the AFP service crashing when trying to open documents on a share via the open recent menu? Any other ideas?

I have been able to consistently reproduce a problem where the AFP service will crash if a file that a user has an alias to is moved to a folder and the user is denied access to .
1. On your Mac create an alias to a file or folder, that you have access to, that is stored on a share served via AFP. The alias can be in the Places section of a Finder window, on the Desktop, or anywhere an alias can be created. Lets call what the alias points to the target.
2. Move the target to a folder on the AFP share and deny the user or group Read & Write access to that folder.
3. Try accessing the target via the alias created in step 1.
The AFP service should crash.
Can anyone reproduce this crash scenario too? -

How to reinstall Microsoft Office for Mac after new hard drive?
Recently I had a problem with my Macbook Pro, and unfortunately had to purchase a new hard drive and have it installed. Is there a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?
As a college student it's important that everything is equal for windows and mac for using instructions. So i am wondering if theres a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?
There are differences between the two version of Office. If you need to be exactly like the Windows version, you will have to run Windows on your Mac.

No, Snow Leopard (10.6) is the last version of OS X that supports Office 2004. You can upgrade to Office 2008 or 2011, or use a free office suite such as LibreOffice.

PC Micorsoft Office compatilbility w/ Microsoft Office for Mac 2004
My wife is considering purchasing a PC which will be compatible with the local community college prgrams, but our kids will use it and their school is Mac-based. The school uses Microsoft Office for Mac 2004.
My question is: Will the Microsoft Office that comes installed on the new PC be compatible with the Mac's version. In other words, will my kids be able to type, say, a paper in Word on the PC at home and then take it to school and be able to work on it on a Mac?

I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac through the Apple website.. I have downloaded all from the disk into my Mac, no problem with all the other Word etc, but Outlook is asking for the key number: I have put it in but its obviously not the right one...???? In the box with the disk came the product key, have put it in and it doesnt work. Please help..x
unfortunately - you can not. you can't even buy outlook by itself at microsoft's own website.
does it have to be outlook? maybe you can get away with using something else that's outlook compatible.
how about trying Thunderbird for Mac OS?
or maybe you can call apple and let them know you purchase the wrong version - they might give you a break and just pay the difference for the home and business version.

You switch to the applications that are named, and quit them. But sometimes they are, like daemons, not normal applications. For those, you need to open Activity Monitor, find the name of the daemon in the list of processes in the Activity Monitor window, select the process and choose View/Quit Process.
