Default Reply-To and Bcc in Mail (Moved)

This is a repost of a question I mistakenly posted on the Leopard thread.
I just finished transferring all my archived mail from several years from Netscape Mail 7.2 to OS X Mail 2.1. There are 2 features which I used in Netscape Mail that I am unable to duplicate in OS X Mail:
1. bcc a specific address other than myself
2. provide a reply-to address different than the ISP addressed used to send the mail
On the 10.5 thread, Pascal Bouvier provided an excellent suggestion, referencing the following site which had 2 potential solutions to this problem:
http://www.hawkwings.net/2007/01/28/adding-a-default-reply-to-address-in-mailapp /
The first suggestion involves an applescript created by Mail Team Developer Cricket which allows specification of a Bcc other than "myself" and a Reply-To address to every email by default. However, the link to this applescript - http://homepage.mac.com/cricket/Menu19.html - results in an error. Apparently, the page has been removed.
The second suggestion involves a post on macosxhints - http://www.macosxhints.com/comment.php?mode=view&cid=11055 - using Terminal commands to achieve the same objective. I carefully used the following Terminal command to specify the desired defaults addresses:
defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Reply-To" = "mydefaultreplytoaddress"; "Bcc" = "mydefaultbccaddress"; }'
and verified that they had been successfully entered using:
defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders
However, using these Terminal commands has had no effect on my outgoing mail Bcc and Reply-To addresses, even after restarting Mail, restarting OS X, etc.
Does anyone know where the Cricket script can now be found?
Alternatively, any suggestions as to why the Terminal commands are not working?
Thanks greatly for any ideas.
Bob

Hi, Robert.
One possible solution is stationery. When you save custom stationery, the visible headers and anything entered into them are saved with that stationery.
e.g. Set up a new email with the Bcc: and Reply-To: fields visible and enter the appropriate addresses into those fields, then select Save as Stationery from the File menu.
To send an email using this stationery, in the New Message window you need to click Show Stationery and then click on your custom stationery. You can drag your custom stationery into the Favorites category if you like.
Not a perfect solution, but quicker than entering Bcc: and Reply-To: addresses each time, and certainly more flexible than the sledgehammer UserHeaders approach.

I followed the advice here to change my default reply to field in Mail https://discussions.apple.com/message/1667119#1667119
How do I edit Terminal to remove this instruction?
Also, I use an email forwarding address so that if I change ISP or change email account my address stays the same. How can I edit my iCloud account in Mail to display that forwarding email address as sent from when people receive emails from me?

  • Mail "Reply All" and Bcc recipients

If I reply to an email and use "Reply All", will the Bcc recipients from the original author of the email be included in my reply?
I'm concerned that some people who I am not aware of may unintentionally receive my reply.
    Thanks for any help.

    Help please!!!
I am a new AppleMail user with a directory that along with individual email addresses, also has a 30 basketball players list in one group.
I tried to send out a blast to everyone asking if they are playing tomorrow? Everyone replies TO ALL with an "in" if they are playing, or "out" if they can not. That way everyone counts the amount of 'in's to see if we are playing or not.
They all got the email fine,  but responded to me via email that there was no "reply to all" on my email blast.
    That is a big problem.
I sent it from my directory, but it is like the system thinks that rather than having sent it to a group of thirty guys, it sent it to thirty persons individually. Perhaps it would not allow a 'reply to all' becuse of that.
    I then tried something different.
As an experiment, I created a four person email group, dragged the group list icon to the address box for sending out emails, it accepted it, and I hit send.
    It went.
My email was one of the four.
I got it, and it showed a 'reply to all' (which worked as I replied to all and I got the reply) but the other three did not get it.
So that clearly is not the answer.
By the way, I have a MacBook Pro using Mac OSX verson 10.5.8 with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processing chip.
Memory 4gb 1067 MHz DDR3 if any of that means anything to you all.
    Help!!!!
    Any Apple Geniuses out there?

  • Reply, Forward, and New E-mail don't always work.

Can always receive e-mails, but usually can't Reply, Forward, or create New. The LOADING symbol just keeps spinning. Just below that it says "BAD USER AGENT". checked in setup, user agent is "Mozila 5.0 (Windows NT 5.1, rv 9.0.1). That doesn't make sense, my system is XP home edition.

Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
Check your Settings > Mail. Contacts, Calendars > your e-mail account.

  • Can you set a default "Reply-To:" on a per account basis?

I have two accounts set up in Apple Mail. One is a work account, and the other is my personal iCloud account.
For my personal emails, I would prefer to have any replies directed to an "email-for-life" address. My college alumni association has a service, which is essentially an email forwarder. The beauty of this is that I am not tied to a particular ISP such as iCloud, mobileme, .mac, etc. If I change ISPs, I only have to update the infomation on the forwarding system rather that letting all my personal contacts know that my email address has changed. For them, my permanent email address is of the form "<firstname.lastname>@<college>.alumni.edu". As such, I cannot use that address as my "From" address, as mosts ISP requirethe From address for authentication. I suppose this helps prevent spoofing.
I have seen instructions for setting a Default "Reply-To:" address in Apple Mail by  setting the UserHeaders in Mail prefs via a Terminal window:
To set: Enter the following in a terminal window:
    defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Reply-To:"="[email protected]";}'
To review settings: Enter the following in a terminal window:
    defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders
To clear settings: Enter the following in a terminal window:
    defaults delete com.apple.mail UserHeaders
My problem is that this sets the default for all email accounts in Apple Mail. I only want to do this for my personal email account. I want emails sent from my work account to reply to the work email addresss.
Is there a setting on the defaults write ... command such that I can apply the UserHeaders to only one account?
    Regards,
    Tim

What you could do is first rename the record to be imported
    IMPORT SOURCE_TBL AS PS_SOURCE_TBL_ORG;
    Then write a insert/select script from PS_SOURCE_TBL_ORG to PS_SOURCE_TBL defaulting column EXCHANGE_RATE_OPTN
    Insert into PS_SOURCE_TBL (COLUMN,COLUMN,COLUMN,COLUMN, EXCHANGE_RATE_OPTN)
    select PS_SOURCE_TBL_ORG (COLUMN,COLUMN,COLUMN,COLUMN, 'defaultvalue');
And then drop table PS_SOURCE_TBL_ORG to clean up your database.

  • How to send Email with Cc and Bcc using MailPackage

    Hi ,
we are using Mail Package to send the Email using Mail Adapter. We have a requirement where we need to send Email with Cc and Bcc using Mail Package .
Can we send Cc and Bcc using Mail Package ?
    Thanks
    Rajesh .

    HI Rajesh,
There is a standard structure for Receiver Mail adopter which we can get from SAP market Place but it is not provided with CC if u want to use CC then you have to go with Dynamic Configuration.
    DynamicConfiguration configuration = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().getStreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    /*any other required fields*/
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/Mail", "THeaderCC");
    configuration.put(key, "ccemail @ test.com");

I have an iPad 2 and receive e-mail through regular internet connection. Lately, when I delete e-mails, and clear my Trash folder, they re-appear, downloaded anew from the server and marked as unread. My e-mail Advanced Settings are selected for "Remove from server when moved from Inbox." Even when I access the e-mail accountfrom my desktop and delete the e-mails, the re-appear on my iPad. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and what I can do to actually delete them?

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong Administrative Group container which is why you are seeing your Exchange 2010 servers in there.
When you install Exchange 2003 only you will see a container named by default as "CN=First Administrative Group" container. But this could be named anything if you changed the Organization Name on the installation when you installed the first
Exchange 2003 server into the domain/forest.
You will notice that when you install Exchange 2010 part of the AD setup is to create a new configuration container and is named by default "CN=First Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)".
So it sounds like you are not looking in the right location within ADSIEdit.
You may find the following article also helpful for this issue which is the same resolution:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2012/05/17/empty-cn-servers-container-causing-issues-with-public-folders-on-small-business-server-2011.aspx
I recommend though that you ensure your Exchange 2003 servers are fully uninstalled or no longer present in your environment before you go deleting the Servers container though.. The following Microsoft article will help with this:

  • Need different but default Reply-to/From headers for specific mail accounts

I just migrated to a rMBP-15 from a Windows/MS Outlook environment. I love it so far. Just to be sure, my OS is OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and Mail is 6.2
I am trying very hard to replicate below mail account setup scenario using Apple Mail. I have two issues.
    I have 3 Gmail accounts - lets call it G1, G2, and G3.
    Issue # 1:
I need to setup corresponding accounts on Apple Mail (say AG1, AG2, AG3) such that when I reply to emails in AG1, the Reply-to and From address fields in  my outgoing emails should be G1, and when I reply to emails in AG2, the Reply-to and From address fields in my outgoing emails should be G2. In this scenario Apple Mail always seems to default to only G1 (or G2, or G3) depending on which one is at the top (default). Even if I set up corresponding SMTP servers with respective email addresses, outgoing emails do not get transmitted unless I choose the default SMTP server, thereby resulting in always a single Reply-To and From email address for all my Apple accounts.
    Issue # 2:
I have a forwarding email address (lets call it FEA) issues by my grad school that I use to forward to G3. When I use AG3 on my Apple Mail, I like to have a Reply-to and From address of FEA.
How can I resolve the above two issues? I was able to easily do this in Outlook. All my hours of online research points to only the Apple scripting command "defaults" that will change the Reply-to header for ALL my outgoing email, but not for specific accounts.
I am happy to provide more details if required, but please any help is appreciated!!

This is not possible with Apple Mail (although its possible with Outlook). So, with some additional research, I solved this by myself as follows:
For the Mailbox needing a different Reply-to and From headers, I logged into corresponding Gmail account directly, and then
    1) Went to Settings
    2) Accounts and Imports
    3) Under Send Email As: I clicked on "Add another email address you own"
    4) In the popup, I entered the email address I really wanted in my Reply-to adn From headers
    5) Clicked on Next Step
    6) I chose "Send through <yourdomain> SMTP Server" and click Next Step
    7) Here I enter the details of my ISP SMTP server (smtp.verizion.net, Port 465, my userid/pwd)
    8) And then back on Goggle Settings->Account and Imports I choose this email as the Default (I will have to validate the email address by entering a code I get on that email)
    I am done.
Now I can use Apple Mailbox with a Gmail account, and never have my Gmail address appear on ANY emial to/from this Mailbox account. I do not even have to choose "Reply-To" header everytime in my outgoing email.

    Hi ,
I think that there is not such a convinience....However , using the UTL_MAIL built-in pl/sql package and specifically the SEND procedure you can....
The general format of this is as follows:
    UTL_MAIL.SEND (
sender      IN    VARCHAR2 CHARACTER SET ANY_CS,
recipients  IN    VARCHAR2 CHARACTER SET ANY_CS,
cc          IN    VARCHAR2 CHARACTER SET ANY_CS DEFAULT NULL,
bcc         IN    VARCHAR2 CHARACTER SET ANY_CS DEFAULT NULL,
subject     IN    VARCHAR2 CHARACTER SET ANY_CS DEFAULT NULL,
message     IN    VARCHAR2 CHARACTER SET ANY_CS,
       mime_type   IN    VARCHAR2 DEFAULT 'text/plain; charset=us-ascii',
priority    IN    PLS_INTEGER DEFAULT NULL);Also note the dbms version..... I'm not sure if this is applicable to versions below of 10g!!!

I "reply"ed to an e-mail message. The next time when I chose to write a new message and type the first letter of the person I replied to earlier, that name and e-mail address appears as a choice included in a pop up list of my contacts. The Mail app on the iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch does have an option to clear previous recipients. You can learn to live with it.  But if you want to get rid of it, the only way to remove these cached email addresses from the Mail application is restoring the iPhone/iPod Touch as a new phone/iPod.  If you restore from backup, the cache is also restored.
This article shows you the screens you will see during the restore:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Mail: unable to connect to my SMPT server? Also new Mail Account defaults to iMap and won't let me change to Pop?

    Dear All,
I've been with the same UK internet and email provider for years and they've given me solid and reliable service. I've worked my way through the Apple Knowledgebase checklist and tests and proved that my isp/esp is working normally so the problem has to be with Mail.
I fiddled about trying to create a Mail Account on my late 2011 but-new-to-me MacBook Pro a couple of days ago and, it might be completely unrelated and simply a coincidence, but since then none of my devices, Iphone 4S, Powerbook G4, iPhone 3G, the MBPro can send email using Mail.
Whenever I try I get prompted for my password but when I enter it says it's wrong but it definitely isn't because I even changed it this morning through my isp/esp and it worked and I then changed it back again to my correct password and it works also to get into webmail that is, not via Mail.
When I run Mail\Window\Connection Doctor and check the status it shows Mail is unable to connect to server but that it can connect to the internet. I get the following message: Trying to log in to SMPT account failed.  Try to verify that username and password are correct.
Now, whenever I try to create a new email account on MacBook Pro Mail keeps defaulting to iMap and wont let me change it to Pop which is what I need.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Dear All,
I'll finish off this thread in case it's of use to anyone else in the future.
I couldn't get the email pop account to recognise my sign-in even though I've been using it continually and without problem for the last several years. It's always been BT and Yahoo so it's more likely to be the fiddle about I did on my temporary, pre migration user account that caused the hiccup.
In th end I had to create another pop account which I was able to once I'd migrated my settings from my PB G4 to the MB Pro.  Unfortunately this didn't merge the numerous email folders that I'd created previously in Mail but I still have them on the PB and I believe they can be transferred manually which is what I will do.
Thanks for everyone that took the time to help.
    K

  • When I receive and answer e-mail, the correspondence is usually "nested" with the original message, and the number of replies, etc. are indicated with a number next to the original message.  How can I change the mail settings so that every reply is listed

When I receive and answer e-mail, the correspondence is usually "nested" "behind"  the original message, and the number of replies, etc. are indicated with a number next to the original message in the inbox.  How can I change the mail settings so that every reply is listed individually in the inbox instead of having them "stacked" behind the original message.  I'm afraid I might accidentially overlook messages the way they are handled now.

Somebody here will correct me if I'm wrong, but what you have to do is go into Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars and under Mail, turn off "Organize by Thread".  I think that will make each message show individually.
