Default sample size?

Hi all,
what is the default sampling percentage or size for gathering statistics?
and where is this parameters stored? (how to display this value?)
thanks

andrew KainIts good to mention the db version that you are referring to. With 10g, the sample size has been automated and oracle picks up the value on the fly by itself. Mention the version please before e comment.

  • Default Sample Size in ODM

The default sample size for Summary Statistic (Show Summary Single Record) is 1000 cases. We understand that we can change the default sample size at Tools --> Preferecnes --> Sampling. However, we would like to know what is the limitation on sample size/maximum cases a user can key in?
Hope someone can provide me the answer. Thank you.

I believe that you can enter as many rows as the number of rows in the data. The larger the sample size the more expensive it is to compute the stats as it needs to do more work.

  • Does default sample size affect modeling?

when i tried to apply data contained in a table to a model, I noticed that the data table was sampled and sampled data was applied to model instead of applying all data to a model. THis is decided by Default Sample Size specified in Preferences. I wonder when we build a model, does oracle also sample part of original data and only use sampled data to build the model?
    thanks

    Hi,
Are you referring to using Data Miner 10.1?
If so, the Preferences, sample setting is used only for statistics gathering.
There are two ways to build or apply a model in Data Miner 10.1.
    1. Using build or apply wizard.
    2. Using build or apply activity.
The build activity does have a sample step but it is up to you whether to run it or not.
Neither the apply activity or apply wizard perform sampling.
Can you explain what makes you think that the apply process is sampling data?

  • How AUTO stats job decides on histograms and sample size?

    Hi All,
    I am on Oracle 11.2.0.3 .
I have a table with 161M records. In fact it is an IOT. We are running the default stats collection job from Oracle (not even the time is changed !!).
This is the nature of stats on this table
    SQL> select column_name, num_distinct, num_nulls, num_buckets, sample_size, histogram
      2  from dba_tab_col_statistics where table_name='TABLE1';
    COLUMN_NAME                    NUM_DISTINCT  NUM_NULLS NUM_BUCKETS SAMPLE_SIZE HISTOGRAM

    COLUMN7                            43225088          0           1   162988917 NONE

Why sample size is so small on the columns where histogram exists?
Why sample size is 100% on the columns where there is no histogram? (I am assuming NONE means there is no histogram on this column)
COLUMN6 is a really skewed column. There are actually 173 distinct values in there. How come Oracle found that correctly in such a small sample size?
    Thanks in advance

Because the code decided that the histogram it generated at that size was sufficiently accurate - but I can't tell how it came to that conclusion.
Why sample size is 100% on the columns where there is no histogram? (I am assuming NONE means there is no histogram on this column)
COLUMN6 is a really skewed column. There are actually 173 distinct values in there. How come Oracle found that correctly in such a small sample size?
The answer is probably that it didn't. I suspect you have enabled the approximate_ndv mechanism, which applies in the first pass for collecting simple stats, and the num_distinct in every case was therefore very close to perfect with a 100% sample size. The histograms would then have been collected in a second pass. You have only 77 buckets in the frequency histogram on column6, which means Oracle knows about just 77 values for that column despite reporting 173 as the number of distinct values. to my mind, the inconsistency between num_distinct (which should have been pretty accurate) and the number of buckets should have made Oracle collect another, larger sample size of the histogram.

  • Reduce sample size Signal Express

I need to reduce the sample size from 3 thermistors over a period of about 1 hour.
I'm reading the voltage differential from 3 analoge inputs with a USB-6343 multifunctional DAQ.
I've tried to reduce the sample rate but this gave me an error, so I went back to the default settings of 1kHz for sampling rate.
Is there a way I can reduce the sample size from withing Signal Express (demo version)? I need to be able to output to excel so that I can share results.

    Hello REDS,
Thanks for the response. Been out for a couple of days. I'll take a look again Monday.
I'm limited to the LE version of Signal Express 2012, so I believe the "Processing" steps will end up being disabled after the eval period, so I'll be stuck after that. I was looking for a quick off-the-shelf solution when I spent all my money on the DAQ and was hoping that the LE version would have been sufficient to perform simple acquisition and logging functions with the DAQ. Chicken and Egg: couldn't eval SW w/o the HW.
I know some DAQs are limited due to the A/D HW, but the datasheet for the 6210 doesn't specify a minimum sample rate. Would you know of other tricks with the LE version of Signal Express 2012?
    Thanks again!

  • How do I find, at-a-glance, the sample size used in several music files?

How do I find, at-a-glance, the sample size used in several music files?
Of all the fields available in a FInder Search, "Sample Size" is not available. Finder does offer a "Bits per Sample" field, but it only recognized graphic files and not music files.
Running 10.8.5 on an iMac i5.
I did search through a couple of communities but came up empty.
    Thank you,
    Craig

    C-squared,
There is no View Option to allow display of a column of sample size.
For WAV or Apple Lossless files, it is available on the Summary tab (one song at a time, as you know).  For MP3 and AAC it is not available at all.
You can roughly infer it from the files that are larger than expected for their time.
99% of the music we use is at the CD standard of 16-bit, so I can guess that displaying it has never been a priority.  However, if you want to make a suggestion to Apple, use this link:

  • How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window?

    Hi champs,
Just a simple non-technical question: How to change the default window size display font size on Lync 2013 main window on Windows 7 desktop?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Did you mean change the Lync: Change the Default Font and Color of Instant Messages just as Edwin said above?
If not, as I know, there is no natural way to change it.
If yes, on the latest version of Lync 2013 client, there is a new option “IM” on Lync client “Options” list. And you need to change the default Font and Color of IM in the interface of “IM”.

  • How  to change default window size?

I'm using MX 6.0 on Mac... For some reason I can't figure out
how to change the default window size in the work windows. Every
time I open a new file to work on it opens to a smaller size than

  • How to change the default font size in X11?

I was a PC/linux user and have switched to use Mac lately (MBP Snow leopard 10.6.8).
Everything's been running perfectly on Mac so far and I really like it, until I have to run some programs on XQuartz/X11 (XQuart 2.7.0).
The default font size in the Xterm is too small. And I hate it that I have to change it everytime i open a new terminal (via vt fonts menu, ctrl+right-mouse click).
Is there a way to change the default font size "permanently" in XQuartz/X11 ??
This may be a stupid question to ask in the developer forum but i cant really solve it.
There's only config. file ~/.Xdefaults they have mentioned so far on Google but i really cant find it regarding to the directorty.
Thank you very much in advance.

You would be surprised to find out that is not like this, to get your account blocked you really need to do a lot of damage and posts are not removed unless they are illegal, and *always* it needs more than a person to delete something. That's a site managed by the community, not by some people put in place by a company.
It is always acceptable to link to external resources as long these resources do provide additional usefull information. Clearly the thread on that side contained much more information than the one here. I observed people linking from there to this forum, but it's not so common, and that's not due to the policy, just because here is more chat and less usefull information.... you will not see endless threads of replies on with "yes, I have the same problem" there.
Shortly, this is "discussions" and is quite different in approach than the SE model, where everythign is aimed towards getting the be answers UP and removing all the nonsense.
I wish that Apple would invest more in discussion, and going towards making this more practical.

  • What is the best way to verify default heap size in Java

    Hi All,
What is the best way to verify default heap size in Java ? does it vary over JVM to JVM . I was reading this article http://javarevisited.blogspot.sg/2011/05/java-heap-space-memory-size-jvm.html , and it says default size is 128 MB but When I run following code :
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    int MB = 1024*1024;
    System.out.println(Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory()/MB);
    It print "870" i.e. 870 MB.
I am bit confused, what is the best way to verify default heap size in any JVM ?

    Hi Kayaman,
Sorry but I don't agree with you on verification part, Why not I can verify it ? to me default means value when I don't specify -Xms and -Xmx and by the way I was testing that program on 32 bit JRE 1.6 on Windows. I am also curious significant difference between 128MB and 870MB I saw, do you see anything obviously wrong ?That spec is outdated. Since Java 6 update 18 (Sun/Oracle implementation) the default maximum heap space is calculated based on total memory availability, but never more than 1GB on 32 bits JVMs / client VMs. On a 64 bits server VM the default can go as high as 32gb.
The best way to verify ANYTHING is to address multiple sources of information and especially those produced by the source, not some page you find on the big bad internet. Even wikipedia is a whole lot better than any random internet site IMO. That's common sense, I can't believe you put much thought into it that you have to ask in a forum.

  • How to Setup Default Page Size for Multiple Printers

I've got two printers, a laser printer for printing "normal" 8 1/2 x 11 pages and a Zebra label printer for printing 4x6 shipping labels. I have my laser printer set as the default printer with a default paper size of US letter. Whenever I go to print shipping labels on my Zebra printer, I switch the printer in the Print dialog box and it always defaults to a paper size of "Full Bleed 8 1/2 x 11". Is there any way to change this setting so that it defaults to "4x6"?
Another interesting thing is that if I temporarily set the Zebra printer up to be the default printer, none of the paper sizes that are "appropriate" for this printer appear in the default paper size popup menu. It looks like the choices are only those that would make sense for my laser printer. But when I go to print with my label printer, I can choose all sorts of "appropriate" sizes from the dialog box, including the "4x6" size that I use.
    Any ideas?

Stop the queue (or take the printer offline manually), queue a print job, and check the settings on the submitted job using the CUPS interface; see if you can get the print job "captured" in the queue, and then see if the job is asking for the page size.  Based on what you're describing, I'd guess that whatever application or tool you're printing from is specifically requesting the page size, and not defaulting it.

  • My default font size is set at 18px. Is this the default default font size for all users of ff 3.6+?

I was developing a site in ff when I noticed other browsers were rendering the font size smaller than in firefox. Upon investigation I discovered that my ff 3.6 default font was Adobe Caslon Pro Bold 18px.
I have never deliberately set this. My understanding was that all browsers default default font size was 16px.
Has ff default font size changed from 16px to 18px?

  • Can you adjust the Sample Size in LR?

In Photoshop, you can set the size of the eyedropper to sample a single pixel, 3x3 average of 9 pixels, 5x5, 11x11, etc. It can make a big difference when sampling a single pixel as opposed to the average of a larger area.
Can the sample size be set in LightRoom?
If not, what is the sample size in LR when you run your cursor over the image? Does this vary depending on the displayed magnification of the image?
    Thanks,

White Balance and the Color Sampler are not the same unless things have changed. White Balance is always 5x5 image pixels while the Color Sampler is 5x5 screen pixels. Therefore, one can increase the
accuracy of the color sampler by zooming in beyond 1:1. In the case of White Balance, I don’t think that’s true, again, unless that's been recently changed. Yes, kind of confusing. Bottom line though, zoom in to do precise work.
