Default share choice

With the new release of Reader, I get the option to share the original document or flattened copy when I email.  I email many PDFs daily and the popup each time is rather annoying.  How can I default one of the choices?

Hi,
Feature you requested in share is not available right now.
Thanks for the feedback, this really helps in understanding the needs and pain points of users.
I am putting down your request in the backlog, but cannot commit over when this will be available in Reader.

  • OS X Lion in Active Directory - disable default shares?

I have an iMac running Lion (10.7.3) which is joined to my Active Directory domain. If I enable SMB file sharing then even with no users explicitly enabled for sharing and no shares explicitly defined domain users can access the Mac via Windows file sharing. Depending on the type of user (administrator or not) who is accessing the Mac they will see either just their Mac home directory exposed via SMB sharing, if they are a non admin user, or their home directory plus all attached hard drives (Macintosh HD, Time Machine Backup) exposed if they are an admin user.
This is very insecure and prevents me properly exploiting SMB sharing.
Is there any way to 'disable' these default shares leaving just shares I create explicitly?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks David, that pretty much did the trick! Even though the article refers to Lion Server it seems the same holds true for Lion desktop. Also, the VirtualAdminShares flag is not present ther by default so it seems in its absence it defaults to Enabled. I disabled it (set flag to NO), rebooted and now admins do not see all attached disks as shares.
However, any user who connects still sees their home directory as shared even though those are not explicitly shared. it would be nice to be able to control that too but it is much better than previously so I am not too concerned.
Thanks again for that useful pointer.

  • Remove admin's default share from file sharing

I'd like to know if it is possible to remove the admin default shares from "file sharing".
For security reasons, I'd like only specific shared folders by AFP protocol become available for remote access and mapping.
By default, the OS X 10.9.1 automatically creates a share from the root folder (/) after activate the "File Sharing" option.

Are you logging in using the credentials of user account that is on the Mac.
It doesn't default to allowing access to the root of the hard drive. However, if you log into a Mac with a user account that has a user account on that Mac, then they will have access to the root of the hard drive over file sharing. Logging into a Mac is logging into a Mac no matter where you log in from.
If you want to limit the scope of file sharing users, create Sharing Only accounts in Users & Groups System Preferences. You can then give those users access to the specific folders you want to allow them access. They will not have access to the root of the hard drive unless you give it to them.

  • WRT610N Only Default share is Visible

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with my WRT610N v2 router. I've connected a USB HDD that has been correctly recognized.
I've have configured sharing settings but only the Default share is visible from the network. I've tested it from Ubuntu and Windows 7 machines with same results.  I will appreciate any help to solve this.

I think only the default folder is mapped on the router that is reason you are not able to access the other folders.
To access the other folder as well open the setup page of the router go Storage Tab > Click on Create Share new window will pop up on the screen wherein you will find the Public or Default, So below you need to click on "Return to Upper Folder". Once you click on it the Current Folder will be "Root"(/) then give the Display Name.
Now add Admin in Group with Access then click on save settings.
Now you need to map the drive on you computer. Once you will map the drive you will be able see all the folders.

  • Won't lock in on my default browser choice

I can set Safari to make Firefox 2 my default browser, but when I quit Safari, the setting goes back to FF3. Don't ask why I have two versions of FF. If you want my 200 word explanation, it's already in the FF forum. I can set the default email to whatever I like and that sticks fine after I quit Apple's Mail. This tells me the problem is specific to Safari. Question 1 is how do I make my default browser choice stick? Question 2 is how would I set my default browser if I were to delete Safari?
By the way, isn't this idea of making the system-brand browser essential to system use exactly what the Justice Department sued Microsoft about? Well, that's a debate so forget it for now.

I was wondering about that too. Prior to posting my suggestion, I moved the internetconfig.plist and the internetconfigpriv.plist files to the desktop, then restarted Safari. My browser preference list remained unchanged - looks like this before and after:
I don't have Camino 1.6.4 or VLC installed in the system. Not sure how this source list is created, however, it did remind me to have another look at Flock. I upgraded to v 2.0.3. Pretty nice RSS reader.

  • Removal of Default share on Windows 2003

    Dear All,
Recently our Audit team taken review and pointed out that we need to remove default share ($) from all the drives.
I want to know if i remove default share $ will that  affect SAP.
    OS windows 2003
    ECC6
    Regards
    Abhijit

    Hi
from SAP's standpoint, you do not need C$ and D$, so, you can un-share them with no problem.
as stated by many, you need SAPLOC and SAPMNT... but that's all.
close this message if this resolves your issue.

  • Cifs oes2sp1 linux Default Share names

Why is it the default Volume Share name always show up when I restart cifs.. especially _ADMIN volume. I tried to use iManager to remove them, also use cifsnov -srn from server console. It seems to work until cifs restart and they show up again. Any ideas? Thank you.

    Sept 2013, OES11 sp1 : Still Not Fixed.
Also, FYI, if in iManager I remove the default shares where the sharename is the same as the volume name and I add a specific share where the share name is different from the volume name and it accepts that and it presents that just as expected then the CIFS server should NOT be auto adding the shares I have removed. This is especially vexing when using junctions between two volumes on the same server.
Please ONLY share the volumes I have explicitly exported via iManager. NO MORE DEFAULT SHARES! Please and Thank-you.

  • Package group - change default/saved choice

    Hello,
While setting up a new system I installed chromium. As a dependency I had to make a choice from a package group called 'ttf-font'. I didn't think much and chose the first in the list (default 1) which was 'ttf-dejavu'.
I removed chromium with its dependencies, including 'ttf-dejavu'. I explicitly installed 'ttf-bitstream-vera', then chromium again without being prompt for 'ttf-font' dependency, all fine. But then I installed mplayer and pacman pulled 'ttf-dejavu' again, no prompt, I don't understand why.
Since I made that choice it has been somehow stored as my default ttf-font with pacman. Whenever I install another package which depends on a member of 'ttf-font', pacman automatically pulls 'ttf-dejavu' again, even if I am using another font package already.
How can I change my default choice for 'ttf font'? Where does pacman store the choice I made earlier? If I re-install the package the prompt for 'ttf-font' just wont show up again.
Can someone explain to me what is happening here?

mplayer depends on ttf-dejavu directly, while chromium depends on the ttf-font group.  The old way was to simply depend on ttf-dejavu as it satisfied the need for a font in X.  But after a while it was realized that the number of choices to satisfy that font dependency had grown, and there were quite a few.  As such, the ttf-font group was created instead, and all the ttf fonts are put into that group.
I would imagine that the mplayer package either hasn't been updated since then, or the maintainer simply forgot to change that dep.  This is probably something you might want to install a bug report for.
I don't think that people really need a whole hell of a lot of fonts, but do you really want to have just a single ttf font package on your system?  I mean, do you really have issues with having more than one font package, or is this simply a curiousity?

  • Default share service

I have two macs, a G4 Mac Mini and a MacBook Pro. The Mini has a external drive formated in Fat32. When I first got the MBP, I tried to make the two Mac share over Windows File Sharing so the MBP could remotely access the Fat32 drive, but to no success. So I turned AFS back on.
Now when I go to network in finder, and choose the mini from the MBP, It connects to the mini via FTP by default. How do I change this back to AFS.
    15" MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7) 7200 RPM HD

One way would be to use CMD+K, then type in afp://10.0.1.3... or whatever the IP actually is, then hit the + button to save that to favorites.

  • Default Share $

    Hello All,
Kindly I need your Help for. How to see the event log related to the users that accessed my drive "Partition" Through the $?

    Hi,
    I agree with ShEiQh。
Event logs provide historical information that can help you track down system and security problems. Event Viewer tracks Security-related events. These events are called audits and are described as successful or failed depending on the event, such as whether
a user trying to log on to Windows was successful.
You can only use Audit Policy to check who has accessed or delete the files or folders.
Apply or modify auditing policy settings for a local file or folder

  • Default file share question

I have a mac mini server and I am not very experienced.
I think I screwed up the permissions and configuration of the default shares: Backups, Groups, Public and Users.
Can anybody tell me what the defaults are?
    Regards,

    Hi
There is no default 'Backups' share. You must have created this yourself? By default there has only ever been three shares going back to at least 10.3. These are Public, Groups and Users. There are only ever POSIX permissions applied by default to these shares and any other share you create using Server Admin. The Owner is root (read/write), The Group is staff or wheel (read only) and Others/Everyone (read only). If you decide to share folders created using the Finder the same 'rules' apply except the default Owner becomes whatever you used as the name for the initial administrator user.
If you're using Server Preferences (you really should try to move away from using this) the above advice should still apply. As ever poorly configured DNS Services will have a fundamental bearing on how well your Server works. Don't confuse a privately run DNS Service with what's available publicly.

  • PC will not autenticate to 10.5 shares

    Hi,
I have a server running 10.5.4. Let me state from the beginning I am a newbie to Mac Servers so I hope I don't sound to stupid here.
I have file sharing set up on the server.
The server is not at my location so I am accessing everything from outside the internal IP.
I am able to access sharepoint with no problem from my Mac with apple K.
The issue arises when I am trying to access a sharepoint from my Windows XP machine running XP Pro.
I have smb enabled and have even disabled the firewall and nothing I do will get my PC to authenticate on the server.
If I type in the servers ip in run it connects to the server with some default shares that I can not even access. No matter what I try I can not get a log in screen or anything that will authenticate to my folders.
I hope I have done something really small and stupid.
If there is any one out there that can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank You in Advanced.

  • How do I set google mail as my default rather than apple mail

Hello All - Stumped at how to avoid having Mail be the default - which seems to be the default of choice on my desktop. However I do not really use Mail, but rather gmail. Unsure of how to go about this, since I do not have a reader for my gmail. Thanks to all you know - Carlyle

You could try gmail Notifier for Mac. Text below from link (Frequently asked Questions).
Making Gmail your default mail application
You can designate Gmail as your default mailto handler. This means that when you click on any hyperlinked email address, a Gmail compose window will open so you can send a message to that address from Gmail.
    To do so in Windows:
    Download the Gmail Notifier.
Right-click the Notifier icon in your system tray, and select Options.
Check the box next to Use Gmail for internet mailto: links.
    Click OK.
If you decide later that you don't want to use Gmail as your default email application, simply uncheck the box. And, if you're using a Mac, you can set your default mailto handler by following these steps:
    Download the Google Notifier.
    Open the Notifier.
Click the Mail icon on the Menu bar and go to Preferences...
Select the Gmail tab and choose Gmail as the program from the Compose mail in drop-down menu.
Note: The Notifier is currently available in English only.
