Default to open photos

Is there a way to set a default program to open photos if I double click them. Currently, they open with preview. I'd like for them to open with Photoshop.
Thanks much!

Select a file, choose Get Info from the File menu, change the application under Open With, click on Change All, and confirm this action.

Whenever i open the system preferences and try and change the actions when a picture cd is loaded to open with iphoto i get ignore and cant seem to change the option tried deleting preferences file but still get the same option wont chance from ignore. OSX 10.56 and iphoto 09

iPhoto is not an Image Viewer and so it can’t be set as one. It can only show you images that have first been imported to the database. Preview is the default image viewer on your Mac.

  • How can I make CS4 the default for opening?

Help! I have most versions of PS but I prefer CS4. I am a photographer. Forever CS4 was the default when opening photos. Something happened yesterday and now when I double click on a photo to open it it opens but not in CS4. Not sure what version it's opening in. But I want it to open in 4. I can right click each and every time to open in 4 but I open tons of photos all day long and that takes too long. How can I again make it so that CS4 is the default?
    Thank you.

Thanks. I couldn't figure out what you meant.
What does CMD I stand for?
If I right click on a file I can open in CS4 but there's no 'change all' there, just option of opening in CS4 or something else.
I open RAW files. Then later I open jpg files. I think they are opening in CS4 as RAW (not sure) but the jpgs are not. If I right click it says CS6 is the default -- first one listed and has (default) next to it.

You are posting in the "icloud on my mac" forum, but your profile mentions Windows.  If using a mac, you need to have iphoto or aperture installed in order to receive new photos via photo stream.  If using windows, try posting in the iCloud on a PC forum.  You'll get better help there.

  • Is it possible to open photo in the default device photo viewer application ?

Is it possible to open photo with the default
    device photo viewer ?

Thanks for your quick reply. I think I have tried but I cannot.
There are no any options to let you choose "rename" in Windows 7 if you connect the iphone via USB
I have tried to rename the photo directly in iPhone Explorer but it will make the photo cannot be read in iphone and just got nothing to show on its screen until I rename it into the previos name again then the picture will show properly.
May be it can but I do not know how to rename them in Windows 7, could you please show me step by step?

  • Setting Photoshop CS5 as the default for opening all photo files?

How do I make Photoshop CS5 the default for opening all photo files?

Close the jpeg in Photoshop! This procedure is done on an unopened (closed) file in the finder, Photoshop is not involved.
Open a FINDER window, click ONCE to select your file (NOT double click to open it)
Command I or in the Finder, File menu, select Get Info.
In the GET INFO window, change the Open With item to Photoshop
Click the CHANGE ALL button, You will get the warning "This change will apply to all Adobe Photoshop CS5.app documents with extension “.jpg”.
Click CONTINUE and from now on all jpegs double clicked in the finder will automatically open in Photoshop

  • Photoshop CS3 - Opens photos very slow

Alright so I have an interesting one I am hoping someone can help me with... I have Adobe Photoshop CS3 (I know, a little behind).  I have been using CS3 since it came out and love it - however recently, and unfortunately I don't have any real time-frames off the top of my head, it is incredibly slow to open photos.
Typically I drag/drop a photo from my folders into Adobo to begin my editing based on the pictures I see fit to edit.  The pictures come from a Canon T2i - I dump them to my local HDD, and then move the photos I wish to edit into Photoshop.  The average file size is about 7mb, so they're not huge.  Now when I open the pictures, it takes, on average, about a minute and a half per picture to open.  During this time Adobe is non-responsive as in menus, navigation, etc... - I can minimize and maximize, it doesn't freeze or anything.  Just sits there while it attempts to open these photos (using no more than 3% processor time).  It does eventually open them, no errors.
This problem happens whether I drag drop into photoshop, open from the file menu, whether they're RAW images, JPEG, GIF, PNG, PSD, 10mb in size or 10kb in size, etc...
I know it's not the system, everything else runs great.
The system is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system, 8GB of Ram, dual core process (1.86ghz each), dual nVidia GeForce GTX 275 (512mb each) video cards that are running with nVidia's latest drivers.
The system is installed on a Western Digital 10,000RPM HDD and I have 6TB of hard-drives (all internal SATA) where my files are stored.  I'd fine it hard to believe if it's the system.
I can play graphic intensive games without glitches, run Microsoft ICE for image sewing (without hesitation), and edit/dump HD videos without problems into Sony Vegas Video.
I have attempted to reset of Adobe Photoshop by doing the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT while loading and allowing complete reset.  I turned of all Windows 7 effects (even though this issue never happened before when I had Windows 7 since launch).  I set the Photoshop.exe to the highest priority in task manager, alloted 88% RAM to it through Adobe preferences, and ensured that both processors are given full attention it.  Still nothing.
Has anyone experience this before?  Outside of un-installing and re-installing (which is next) - I can't think of anything else...

Just to be clear, did you get a prompt from Photoshop confirming preferences deletion?  I ask because sometimes folks think they've done a reset without having seen that dialog, and that's not the case.  You have to be VERY quick to get Photoshop to notice you've pressed these keys during startup.  If it doesn't prompt you, you weren't quick enough.
Some other things to think about:
Is your default printer offline?  Is there any printer installed in your system that's offline?
Do you have the Twain driver installed but a scanner is turned off or missing?
Are there any network drives established but the network resource is offline or unreachable?
What 3rd party plug-ins do you have installed into Photoshop?  Is it possible one of them is not initializing properly?

  • Can't open photos etc from Outlook Express

When trying to open photos they automatically go to Itunes and I can't find them there? When installing Itunes I was asked if I wanted to make it the default program for photos etc and I said no. Any suggestions??

    Hi Paul,
The only way to get the newest version is to buy iLife 6.
You can export the photos from the mini and burn them, then import to the G4.
    Use the following method.
Creating a CD or DVD to be viewed in Windows or by a photo processing company

  • Can't open Photos library, and how to fix it?

I successfully migrated from iPhoto library to this new Photos Library in April.17th, and everything seems okay except for some minor bugs.
but from yesterday on, I started Photos and got this message "Can't open Photos Library, try another."
If I try reading iPhoto or Aperture Library. Photos started migration from iPhoto or Aperture Library process again.
So, In short, the newly migrated default library can't be read by Photos.
Recently I did some import from cameras and a newly bought Gopro, and MAYBE A HINT, when I connected Gopro to Mac, Photos automactically opened up its window and tried to import videos but only left me a permanent freezing, so I did forced close to Photos...maybe at that time the library was damaged...
Please...Is there any method to recover or rebuild the damaged library? I really don't want to re-immigrate from iPhotos library. Do Photos get any build-in fix tools or alike?

try to backup your photos library and hold down the option and command keys while launching Photos - repair the library

  • Right-click to open photos in PSE

I used to be able to right-click on a photo and select 'open with PSE 11' but, I installed Portrait Professional on my laptop and now PSE doesn't show as an option. I even tried to change the program at the bottom of the window, but PSE doesn't even show up as a program option. I've also tried to change it within PSE, but I'm not seeing an option for choosing file types to open with it. I currently have to open PSE then find the photo I want to open which is so much more time consuming. I want my right-click option back as 99% of my photo editing is done using PSE. Help.
Actually, I have both PSE 11 and PSE 12 on my laptop ... is there a way that I can toggle setting so that I have the option of opening photo files in either (till this only PSE 11 showed as an option).
    Thanks!

In 'open with' everything BUT PSE shows up as an option ... and when I do 'choose default program' its the same thing ... doesn't even show up. I can't even find a trail to either PSE 11 or 12, even when I go to the Adobe folder (through the choose default program).  Portrait Professional Studio 11 has highjacked my photo files somehow it seems. Worked perfectly till I installed that on my laptop! grrrrrrr
I'd thought there would be a setting in PSE where I could choose the file types I want it to open, but if its there I'm not seeing it.

  • Opening Photos Library from remote MAC fails

    All,
I have my main Photos Library on a MACmini (Macmini_1), in the default folder location. I try to open Photos for OS X from another MACmini (MACmini_2), using the 'other location...' button. Photos for OS X can not open the library on MACmini_1, failing with "The Library can not be opened. Photos has atempted to repair the library "MACmini Photos Library, but is unable to open it".
The Photos Library opens fine on MACmini_1 locally, without attempting to repair.
Any idea if this 'operation' is supported, can Photos open a remote library? iPhoto would do this without any issues, as long as the Library was located on MAC formatted drive (internal or external). Anyone know if this has changed?
    Thanks

That is not supported. The only way to share a library between macs is on a portable drive, formatted MacoS Extended (Jourmnled) and with the ignore ownership flag set.  as described here:  iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
To access a library from several Macs remotely, consider iCloud Photo Library:

  • I downloaded Photoshop Elements and now it has become the program that opens photos.

I recently downloaded Photoshop Elements for editing photos.  Now it has displaced iPhoto as the default program for opening photos.  How do I get the default set back to iPhoto?

Now it has displaced iPhoto as the default program for opening photos.
Do you mean that it has replaced iPhoto as the default program for editing photos that are already in iPhoto?
Or, do you mean that PE is the default application for opening a .jpeg file on your desktop, or elsewhere outside of iPhoto?
