Default Writing Direction For Each Language

Hi all :-)
How can I change the default writing direction on my MacBook Air 2013.
I want each language will have it's own default writing direction.
How can I do that?

Hi Tom,
I may be misunderstanding this but I think the poster is talking about using both languages in the same Chat and expecting the OS or the app to recognise each and adjust itself accordingly.

Changing preferred font types for each language separately in Safari

Hi, I'm wondering in Safari->Preference->Appearance, you can change the default fonts for your main language, which is most likely English.
However, if I want to change font types for each specific language, e.g. Japanese or Traditional Chinese, how could I do that? I assume that if I change in the Appearance menu, it's global to all languages (e.g. English)?
Just to illustrate my question, in Firefox, I can go to Firefox->Preference->Content-> Fonts&Colors->Advanced, then I can change the font types for each language separately.
How do I do similar things in Safari in Leopard? Thanks.

But it seems very weird that for all the beautiful font types in Mac OS, the users are only stuck with the default font type only?
Perhaps, but it's just an example of how different browsers and apps offer different features. You should use the browser that works best for you. While FireFox may be good for that feature, it can't display some languages, like Hindi, correctly at all.
It is possible to change the font using a custom style sheet, which you can select via the advanced item in Safari preferences, but I don't think there is any way to do this on the basis of language.
What language are you specifically interested in changing the default font for? If you are getting the wrong kind of font for CJK (for example, seeing Japanese character types instead of the Chinese ones in Chinese text), this might be fixable by changing the language order in system prefs/international/languages.

That will work but it's not considered "best practise" as it can most likely be handled by a single task sequence.
I don't understand which report you need. Please provide the colums names and where the data should be taken from.

Default dashboard page for each user group

How can I set for each user group (or for each user) which dashboard will be opened as the deefault after login?
Can I also set the default page in that dashboard?

Under Settings->My account->Preferences->User can select his default dashboard.Is it ok?
If you dont want them to select that option,you need to redirect them...You can use that blog....

Default "First" Page for each Folder

Following on from Rick's note if I may...
Similar question: My file contains numerous folders, the
inital one of each has a page with a "departmental - overview".
What I have for each Folder - eg. Finance - is a page
containing this "overview" - like a "title" page, below this are
the sub-folders for each aspect of that Dept. eg Job Descriptions,
Processes ....
So - when you create the TOC, is there a way that you can get
the "overview" listed first, and under that, the sub-folders,
rather than this overview being detailed below the folders....
Does this make sense???

By folder, it sounds like you mean Book in the TOC. Right
click the book and link it to any topic.
If you also created a printed output, by default you will get
the topic twice, once with the book and once in its own right.

Default poster image for each exported video

Anyone know of a way to change the default "poster image" of each video that is exported to the MobileMe web gallery? The default icons that show up for each movie in my gallery aren't very good and I'd like to change to a different frame if possible. I know you can do this easily for photo albums by setting the key photo but cant find a similar way for videos. Maybe there is a setting in iMovie that I'm missing?

Why the default writing direction doesn't get changed automatically ?

When I write an Arabic letter, it doesn't change the paragraph writing direction automatically to right to left as it say in the following link !

For non-Apple apps, you would have to ask the authors.
Apple apps should do it. Mail and Pages 5 seem to work, but TextEdit, Safari, Messages do not. To ask Apple to fix those, go to

Default internal order for each vendor

I am creating employee as a vendor in FK01. Each vendor is created as internal order for doing employeewise budget check. So when i book any expenses for vendor, i want that internal order should automatically flow on the basis of vendor.
So is there any way from where i can default internal order on the basis of vendor.

The only way to do the same is through Substitution rule by using an user exit. You need to create a Z table and maintain the mapping of vendor to IO. There after in GGB1, write a substitution rule for the node, complete document
Check if Vendor Account =X
Substitute using user exit
In the user exit call up the z table.

Can an alternative layout be created with right-left direction (for Arabic language)

I'm creating a publication in English that will be translated into Pashto and Dari languages which run right to left. I won't be working the translated versions, but I want to set-up a well-organized InDesign master that makes it easy for the designer working on translation to create an alternate layout that runs right-left.

@Daniel – layouting for RTL (right-to-left-direction) would imply one basic setting for the whole document: RTL for the pages. So this would rule out the Alternative Layout feature of InDesign. You simply cannot reset the direction of the pages after a couple of other pages.
If you do not refer to the InDesign feature "Alternate Layout" here, but to an independent InDesign file, the answer is "yes", you can do it. With a "western" version of inDesign this is possible by scripting.
However, using a special plug-in like inTools' World Tools Pro would be the better solution:

I got some data stored in WGS 84 (SRID 8307).
As I read the data, the map was 90 degree rotated or not
depanded on the map-viewer I used.
So can any one tell me in with direction is the right way
to store the coordinates North, East or East, North?

If it is 90 degrees rotated, you probably switched long/lats in the sdo_geometry.
We store them as long/lat (x being the longitude, y being the latitude).
So x axis is from -180 to 180 and y is from -90 to 90.

Setting language independently for each app

Before leopard we could set the language of each app independently (in the get info window) but now we are stuck with a system-wide setting. Is there any way to get the functionallity back? And I don't want to manage a separate user for each language, it just doesn't work for me.

Here's the long story:
I'm tring to have my finder and some apps in french but I want to use some other apps in english (Final Cut, Photoshop, a bunch of pro video apps for work). I use mainly FCP and the thing is that if I open it in french, for some obscure reason it assumes (erroneously) that I must be in France and that I have an azerty keyboard... so all the keyboard shortcuts are changed. It gets absolutely unusable, even undo is changed for something other than command-z. So I tried language switcher, with my system and finder set in french. I ran the list of my apps and decided, app by app, which one I wanted in french and which one I wanted in english. I saved those settings every time, because I felt it would be dumb to have to launch language switcher first each time I wanted to launch an app. Then I launched Final Cut Pro (7.0.3). At first it looked like all went well, it was in english, my system was in french. But when I checked trough the menus, I found that all the menu items were written in english but the keyboard shortcuts associated with them were the french ones! I tried to get it back to work normal by switching the system back to english and doing the reverse process with Language Switcher. Didn't work. I tried three or for other things that didn't work either (and I won't detail them all... sorry). So I reverted to my last time machine backup.
I assume the .lproj trick you mention is essentially what Language switcher is doing, so that wouldn't do me much good. I really miss the way we could do it before leopard...

Production tips for multi language titles...Arabic plus others...

I am teaching a DVDSP course with a student who will produce multi language titles. Arabic is the primary with French, German, and English as the alternates.
I follow the scripting ideas to test for which language the users select but I have a question on the menu production process.
Is it this?
Set language on Mac to Arabaic-Author this menu set-likely 2-3 menus
Save work
Switch language set to German-Author the same menu sets
Save work
Ditto for French and English.
Switch back to Arabic and finish the project.
Or this?
Graphic buttons with 3 states each for German, French and English? Accept the issues with layered menus.

In my book there are three approaches to the task.
First: create 4 language folders in the project for Arabic, French, German and English. Create identical graphics and overlays for each menu set, except of course text which will be different for each language. Import them into DVD SP and change project language for each set to put menus in place. Make sure your VTSM does not go over 1 Gig. Author the DVD.
The only problem with this approach is the user settings on a DVD player. If the user never bothered to change from default English to anything else, then only English menus will be displayed.
Second: Create all your menus (in different VTSMs if you like, especially if content differs. It is not necessarily to do so). Create "Master" menu with language choices. Branch from it to language sets. Use "Display condition" in the advanced tab for tracks and menus for navigation tracking. Saves tons of redundant scripting.
Third: Script your menus for tracking and re-directing navigation to the correct language of user choice. The only way for Spec authoring environments such as Scenarist.
Needless to say the menus should be created outside of DVD SP

PLD Invoice localization for other languages in SBO 8.8

Hello,
We are installing SBO 8.8 in our client.
After we have designed the standard layouts (Invoice, Purchase Order, etc) in Portuguese langua, our client wants to create them also in English language.
Is there any way to translate them automatically?
Do I have to create a new layout for each language or is there any way to simpligy the layout translation?
I tried to find info in the PLD manual (How to Customize Printing Templates with the PLD) but found no help on it.

It that's true, then the field "Language" in the business partner master data is unusefull.
When I open the SBO business partner documentation from SAP, related to this field it says:
"Language: If the business partner is located abroad and you want to print documents in his local language, specify the required language. By default, the company language is displayed.
Note 1: Before you print documents for foreign business partners, ensure that the foreign language fields have been translated.
Note 2: The field is only displayed if you have selected Multi-Language Support on the Company Details: Basic Initialization tab.
It seems that there is a way to translate the foreign language fields, base on note 2 statement.
Am I correct?

Pearlyrics can only search for English language lyrics .. is there an equivalent for foreign languages such as Chinese and French?

No.
But word processors often have features like "styles" where you set the font, if that helps. Nisus Writer has a system of preferences where the font can be set for each language.
