Defective Apple TV 2?

So I finally upgraded to Apple TV 2, because I wanted my mlb.com on my apple tv (still don't undertand why this couldn't be on the apple tv 1 .. sigh).
So I get it home and I plug it into the same hdmi cable that my apple tv 1 was using.
The problem I'm having is my tv screen keeps flickering, and at times when it I click on the remote control to get out of the screen saving mode, it will be just completely black.
I have my audio through the fiber cable so I can hear my clicks but the screen is black.
What I have to do is unplug my apple tv for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in, and then it seems to be fine for a while.
Also when I've been watching MLB.com spring training games, the apple TV will stop showing the game and go back to the menu again, like the game ended but the game didn't end.
I was reading some things and I'm trying to decide if I have a defective Apple TV 2, or if I have some HDMI incompatibility with my Samsung TV?

You may want to try changing the HDMI settings under Audio/Video. It could be that your cable or the TV could be the issue. Search the forum for Samsung and you will see that you aren't the only one having issues with Samsung TV's and the ATV2. If you change the HDMI settings and can't get the video back, you may have to restore the ATV2, so read up on that before you mess with the HDMI settings

Bought 4s while on holiday to USA I stay in India phone not working apple service says manufacturing defect. Need to be replaced. Can I do it in India. If so how? Some say have to send it to USA. Not feasible. What do I do

Not only odes it have to be serviced in the US, you cannot simply send it to the US, it must have a US return address associated with it.  So you have to send it to someone in the US who will take it in for service, retrieve it and then return to you.
iPhone warranties are very complicated and restricted to the country of origin...as Tim said, have never been international.

  • Defective apple product

Apple's MACbook apparently is not as durable as it is supposed to be.
In 2 years time, hard drive changed twice, logic board once, touchpad once and another issue now still for our surprise. Definitely not the value of the product paid for. The pattern is every November and March since it was purchased.
The 2nd time it has to be serviced, customer service agent told me that the next time a major issue occurs, they will replace but this was denied. When my 3rd issue occurred, I demanded for a replacement yet this was denied again. Concern elevated to the manager denied everything. When I asked for a resolution report, customer service manager said, they do not give any and she just asked me to go to the Apple site to request for one but I never got a response from them. NEVER. What a customer service manager she is..
When I again demanded for a replacement, she said, next issue. How many next issue should this be for them to fulfill this. Is this the level of Apple service? Why do they have to wait for another major issue if it is basically overhauling everything already. Isn't that major issue enough?!?!
I hope someone from Apple can see this.

  • Tried everything to fix my A-TV problem reading Wifi network; Where can I check if my Apple TV is eligible for replacement?

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV that I am convinced to be one of the defective ones which Apple is replacing since they will not read a Wifi network (more on this below). I live in a very remote country at the moment as well so going to an Apple Store is not an option. I would like to try and get this replaced but it seems the only way I can talk to someone at Apple is to buy a one-time service plan for $19.99. Does anyone know if I can confirm in some other way that my Apple TV is indeed defective and initiate the replacement process? (or to confirm that it is not covered and that my problem is elsewhere). I've seen some screenshots with serial numbers that are covered but I don't see on those threads how to request the replacement.
To ensure my Apple TV is indeed defective I have followed all the guidance in dozens of threads on this forum including: (1) reset, restored, and restarted Apple TV dozens of times (2) updated Apple TV software via a USB connection to iTunes (3) ensured my home network has disabled MAC filtering (4) updated my router's firmware (5) ensured iPhone, iPad, other devices can connect the the wireless network which my Apple TV can not see (6) tried different chanels (frequencies on my wifi router) and turned off all other devices that may cause interference (7) tried disabling security on my wifi router (8) tried setting up my home wifi directly from a wifi router and then using my standard set-up which is router to time capsule and TC generating the wifi network. Despite all these efforts, my Apple TV can not see a single wifi network (and (9) using "other" to manually enter the network also doesn't work). The A-TV works fine with a cable connection. This leads me to believe I have a defective Apple TV. Any other repair suggestions are welcome!
For reference, my SN is C1MHCRT9DRHN

I tried, but they want to charge me $19.99 to ask this simple question... And there doesn't seem to be any email address where I can ask by email.

  • Apple icon clicking on and off?!?!?!?

My nano froze and I was kindly pushed in the direction of restoring my nano on disk format...whcih I did and everything started working okay-ish! Then after going back to normal format the apple icon appeared and for a short while I had the normal screen, but the apple came back and has been clicking on and off ever since (I say clicking not flashing because I can actually hear the click when the icon goes off!!!)
I am really stuck now...the battery is charged, I have reset...reset....reset....restored on disk format....and still it isn't working!!!!!
    Please someone help me!!!

jack...sounds lik the click wheel is almost in a permanently pressed state and it's making the Nano re-set? If you haven't used your one free call to ttech support, I'd use it now....if there's a defect, Apple will fix it.

  • Apple TV 2/ Denon AVR 2311CI zone 2 issues

I have an original Apple TV hooked up to my Denon AVR 2311CI ss receiver. I needed to hook the red and white RCA cables to pass an analog signal to get the audio to pass through to zone 2. The next gen Apple TV has no RCA jacks, just digital optical. That does not pass the audio to zone 2. Has anyone tried this and got zomne 2 audio to work with the newer Apple TVs??

I am also having this issue (picture - but no sound) - but with an Onkyo AV Receiver (TX-SR674).  And unfortunately, my TV doesn't have HDMI - just DVI - so I can't pass the AppleTV through my TV to get the audio to the AV receiver - or even get the audio from the TV's speakers.  So unless I can firgure this out, I either have to return the Apple TV, or buy a new TV and/or receiver.  As much fun as that sounds, I don't really have the spare coin to make it happen.  I've tried every possible setting on the Onkyo (which I use with a DirecTV receiver and a Sony Blu-ray player just fine - using HDMI) - but no luck.  The only way I've seen it work is using my Dell computer Monitor (which has HDMI in and analog audio out).  So it doesn't appear to be a defective Apple TV.  Oh - and I can't get any digital audio out of the Apple TV either. I tried two different AV receivers that have optical tos-link inputs.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Cheers (and Happy New Year).

  • Nvidia 6800M Card in MacBook Pro 2.5 -what card is Apple using for repairs?

    The Nvidia 6800M Card:
Am getting one of the outgoing MacBook Pros Early 2008 with 2.5 GHz 250 HD and 512MB VRAM. I thought this model was not one of those with the defective Nvidia 6800M Card. Apple didn't list the 2.5 GHz machine on their website as one of those with the bad card.
Now I'm certain that this machine too has the defective card (based on all the web info and evidence that Nvidia never fixed or altered their production processes on this and it was a soldering defect).
If Apple replaces it with a new logic board presumably -- will it have the exact same type of 6800M card or a new, revised one? <edited by host>
Those of you getting a repair --- what kind of card do you have now? Can they put a different video card on there???
Am very worried as I don't game but bought this thing for graphics on the side and home use. I may not "stress it" sufficiently with CS 3 Suite so problem may not manifest until after AppleCare runs out. I want this machine to last 5 -- 7 years. Should I return it and get hit with open box fees???

    hepatica,
there is a repair program in place stating that should the GPU fail as a result of the defect, your warranty will be extended to two years and the repair will be free of charge. if you happen to get applecare, it's free of charge to fix anyways.
the support article also says that the affected models were manufactured between may 2007 and september 2008.
that being said, i don't think all of the 8600M GTs are defective. should a repair be necessary at this point (or a year from now, when the GPU usually fails for most people who have had it fail), i can confidently say that it would be replaced with a revised chip since nvidia has corrected the problem this past summer (as stated by another poster). the new revision should be free from the defect.
apple would not put in a different GPU (eg: the 9600M GT) than the one it came with.

it seems to be indented into the iPod itself. would Apple fix that? if so, what is the approximated cost of repair?

If under warranty and the iPOd is defective, Apple will replace the iPod ant no cost.  Otherwise they will excahnge the iPod for a refurbished one for a flat price depending upon the capacity, for a 4G it is $99, $149, or $199.

  • Hello there I have Mac Pro I broked my secreen but it still under apple care so the going to fix it or change it ?

    hello there
I have Mac Pro I broced the screen but it still under apple care so I just want to know if they going to fix the secreen or change hole the Mac Pro?

Mac Pros are towers and have no monitor. A MBP does have a screen, but unless the screen damage was a manufacturing defect, Apple will not cover the damage under your warranty. But they will fix it at your expense.

  • 30G Ipod Video, exchange for defect, now new problem

I had a 30G video Ipod, audio jack was defective, apple store gave me a new one. Problem is, the new ipod will only download itunes playlists (752 songs/audio books) but will not download the library, 1152 total songs. Ipod 800 # was not helpful after downloading any updates and wiping out ipod to factory settings.
I am about to toss this thing in the trash!!! How do I get the songs from the itunes library onto the ipod? They are NOT purchased but burned, and I got them on the old 30G. I am using windows XP, fujitsu N series new lifebook.

Have you checked the iPod options in iTunes to make sure it is set to sync all songs and not just playlists? When the iPod is connected CTRL-click on the iPod icon, and select "Options". Make sure the sync settings are as you want them.

  • I broke my I touch 4.... Twice. Will apple give me it for free? Will they charge?

    I'm not sure!

If accidental damage that is not covered by the warranty.
If your iPod is within warranty, not abused (e.g., dripped) and defective Apple will exchange it for no cost. Other wise.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished for this price:

  • Where's the 'contact us' for Apple TV?

So, my Apple TV has died - when it tries to boot it just gives the Apple logo with a flashing amber light, and sits there. I've tried doing a factory restore, which just causes it to reboot and do the same thing. So I need to get my Apple TV repaired or replaced.
On the service FAQ for Apple TV under "how do I get my Apple TV serviced," it says, "It's easy! You can contact us. We will send you a replacement Apple TV, together with instructions on how to return your defective Apple TV to Apple. Please return your defective Apple TV to Apple within 10 business days to avoid being charged the cost of the replacement." I click on the "contact us" link, which takes me to http://www.apple.com/support/contact/ which lists several options, but the only one which appears to apply is the AppleCare Repair Depot, which doesn't list the AppleTV.
Is my best option to just take it to the Apple store and brave the long lines there?

fluffy, I would say your best option is to take it to an Apple Store. You can make a reservation first at the Apple Store of your choice.
Go to http://apple.com/retail and pick the Apple Store you would like to have your unit serviced. On the next page, look for "Make a Reservation" on the right side and click "Reserve" under the "Genius Bar" section.
Living in Irvine, CA, I'm totally spoiled. There are 4 Apple Stores within 15 minutes of each other.

  • Will Apple replace a iPod because the volume buttons are slightly stuck?

Just got slightly stuck suddenly. They still work, but needs to be pressed hard. Aren't they suppose to work just like the sleep button?
So, will they replace it? Still have warranty.

If the iPod is within warranty, not abused and defective Apple will replace it with a refurbished at no cost. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
