Defective monitor profile error

Getting error message 'the monitor profile "LCD color management and conversion" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software'.  Choices: 'Ignore profile' or 'Use anyway'.
Question 1: how do I rerun the monitor calibration software?
Question 2: what choice do I chose? Ignore or use anyway?

1. All software is launched by running its EXE file (Windows) or APP file (Mac). Generally you will have a shortcut to the application in your Start menu if on Windows, check your Applications folder on Mac. You will have to know the name of your calibration software in order to find it though. Since Adobe doesn't create calibration software and there are many other companies who do, we don't really have any direction to give you as to finding it.
2. Monitor calibration effects how color is displayed on your monitor, especially in color managed applications like Photoshop Elements. The incorrect profile will cause your images to look wrong on screen, which could cause you to edit them incorrectly. Once edited incorrectly, these files will look different when posted on the internet or when printed. It is better to ignore a profile that to use an incorrect one.

  • Defective Monitor Profile - Urgent Help

So I just bought a Samsung 400MX (40 inch monitor) and just started on some graphic design.
However upon my first run of the Photoshop software I received an error saying that the Samsung monitor profile was defective. I tried to research a solution and couldn't find one -- only now having the time to post a question.
In the interim I bypassed the error, clicking for it not to remind me again knowing some of you might be able to help (keep in mind I have no way now of knowing whether or not it is fixed since these errors are ignored). In hindsight it was a bad move.
So would any of you please explain in detail how to handle a defective monitor profile? I wasn't able to find any websites with any helpful information. Also please factor in the fact that I will not be getting any feedback on whether or not a proper monitor profile is being referenced.
When I try to create a new psd project, the white background starts out purely white, but then fades to a murky tan and there are weird color affects when I start work (many colors flowing in and out and lots of grey as I highlight parts of the work area).
    Please help! Photoshop is expensive!

That was quick! Thanks for the reply.
I never thought there was a problem with Photoshop -- I just assumed I had a "defective monitor profile".
If that clues you in to a familiar problem please let me know.
    - What operating system are you running? Exact version number would be helpful
        >> Windows 8
    - What version of Photoshop are you running? Exact version number again.
       >> Photoshop CS6 Version 13.0 X32
    - Do you have a monitor calibrator, such as the Spyder or ColorMunki?
      >> Nope, should I? I assumed the monitor profile was just some structure in Windows 8 I would have to update. Is that so?
    - Can you take a screenshot or two of what you see and post it here? To post a screenshot, click the camera icon below the words "Post a new answer" once you've replied to a forum message.
    >> Done. Notice the tan color. The first picture shows the tan background and then the second is a picture of a "flash" (it flickers) -- notice the whitish background with the tan color in the lower left-hand corner tile being consistent with the first picture's lower left-hand color tile (tan).
    Thanks!

  • Defective Monitor Profile

    Good People...
Just purchased a new monitor for the recording studio...an LG L227WTG FLATRON LCD. Went w/ the glossy screen technology (or whatever LG dubs it) in order to have mo better detail & clarity when working on the graphics side of the equation...Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
But, speaking of Photoshop...when I open it now...I get a warning message that reads: The Monitor Profile "LG 227W" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software.
What does this mean (aside from the obvious)?
This will be my first high quality graphic experience in PC land; &...since I'm also designing not only my own CD jackets & insert booklets (on the CMYK end)...I'm designing my own web pages (on the RGB end). I need to get this right, so my presentation colors don't look silly.
    Thanks,
    mark4man

I've seen a number of others (not here) report this minor problem. You can
check their website (lge.com) for an updated profile, but you really need to
invest in a hardware monitor calibrator, especially if you intend to prepare
artwork for commercial printing. A basic Spyder or Huey will get you a
decent profile and they are not expensive.

  • Can you help with this error message - Monitor Profile Dell E177FP G2.2 D65 appears to be defective?

I've recently started getting the message:  "Monitor Profile Dell E177FP G2.2 D65 appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software."
I don't know what to do to fix this,  Can someone help?

Do a Google search on the exact error message. Others have had this problem and you might find a solution.

  • Every single time I power up photoshop CC get an error. says " the monitor profile "acer S201HL" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. How do I fix this?

Every single time I power up photoshop CC get an error. says " the monitor profile "acer S201HL" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software. How do I fix this?

Your factory-supplied monitor profile, associated with your monitor by the operating system, is bad.  It's more common than you'd think.
    To avert the error:
Open the Color Management panel of your Windows operating system.  In the Devices tab, if it is not already listed [ Add... ] the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile and [ Set as default Profile ].
After doing the above, log out of Windows and back in again, just to ensure everything's updated.
Note that the above assumes your monitor is more or less displaying color in the sRGB color space (sRGB is short for sRGB IEC61966-2.1).  For many monitors this isn't a terribly wrong assumption.
If you want to ensure you have the most accurate color, consider buying a calibration and profiling device, which (with its associated software) can set your calibration and generate custom color profiles by doing actual measurements from your monitor.  You'll want to take some time to get your mind around how color-management works, and that is not a trivial task.  It's certainly well beyond what can be taught in a forum post by post.
    Good luck.

  • Error when I start Photoshop "Monitor profile appears defective"

Over the past few weeks I have gotten a error popup message when I open Photoshop that says:
"DELL E22IOH  G2.2 D65" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software.
If I choose the IGNORE option I can go into Photoshop error free. BUT, if I choose USE ANYWAY I get into Photoshop and the colors are off. There is no more white color (it's not a pale yellowish color).
I haven't changed any settings in my Photoshop recently (why tinker with something when it's not broken?). Regardless, this error message isn't going away and would like to correct this problem. Anyone ever experienced this before? I've googled the problem and have seen some weird so-called solutions but figured I'd go to the pro's to get a answer I can trust.
If it matters, I use Windows XP.
    Thanks

I'd say your monitor profile is corrupted, or at least unusable by Photoshop.
Did you install a new monitor, or bring in new software or an update to where your system now knows more about the monitor hardware than it did before?  Did you update Photoshop to a new revision?
This would not be a settings issue with Photoshop, but rather what profile you have associated with your monitor via the operating system.  Right-click your desktop, choose Properties, then the Settings tab, and [Advanced] button.  Systems differ at this point, but look for a Monitor tab and Color Management function where you can choose a monitor profile to associate with a particular display monitor.
Ultimately you want to try to determine what monitor profile file is being identified by "DELL E2210H G2.2 D65" and see if you can get another copy of it (e.g., from Dell.com).  Note that you misinterpreted the 10 as IO in your original message, so a search for the string as I have listed it here may turn up more results.

    Noel,
Did not install a new monitor or a new version of photoshop or anything else for that matter.  I did however update a windows update several weeks ago. Im not sure but I think the error occurred after that update.
I was able to follow your steps and found the color management function, but there was only one profile listed.

  • The monitor profile "***" appears to be defective......

This is an FYI for others trying to solve the problem I've been pulling my hair out over! I was receiving a warning on startup of Ps CS3 "The monitor profile 'LCD color management and conversion' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software". This was after using my EyeOne to calibrate my monitor. I've seen variations of this problem on various forums and websites, but none helped my particular problem.
FINALLY, it occurred to me to check the default profile for my SECONDARY monitor! That one was using a stock profile that came with the monitor, but that was what was triggering the error message. Once I replaced that with the same profile as I created and was using on my primary monitor, Ps stopped displaying the warning.
I hope this helps someone else! If I recall from months ago when I researched and bought my colorimeter, my model will only calibrate one monitor, so I can't use it to create a unique profile for the second monitor.

    OK, this is pretty funny...
I'm having this same problem, and can't remember how I solved it before, searching all over the internet and Adobe Forum, and finally find this post.  Finally, a post that seems very similar to my problem!
HELLO!  I posted it!!!!  Even if it never was of any help to anyone else, it helped me solve the problem again!
This time, problem arose because of having to remove and reinstall GPU and monitor drivers.  Other things have change too, since my original post.  I'm now on Win7 64bit, just bought PS CS5, and different GPU.....but none of those are a factor.
Even though I had just recently calibrated my primary monitor with Eye-One, using the advanced mode; I did it all over again, and determined that it was set as the default profile.
I almost thought the fix didn't work this time around, but upon trying it again, I realized I wasn't paying close enough attention.  I right-clicked the desktop to get to screen resolution, and clicked on advanced properties after selecting monitor #2.  Color management tab>click on color management button>devices tab.  Alas, I thought, they're the same list of profiles, and the newest profile is set as the default.  It wasn't until the second time around that I realized that, even though I had started out selecting monitor #2 as the one I wanted to change, this dialog I found myself in has a drop-down for monitor, and it was displaying the profiles for the primary.
Once I changed that to show the secondary monitor, the problem was evident: the only profile showing was the dreaded "LCD color management and conversion" profile.  Where it comes from, and why PS doesn't like it, I have no idea.  As far as I can tell, it's not Dell's.   I also had to check the box "Use my settings for this device" before I was able to add any new profiles.  I added a few new ones from the list after clicking on "add", including the profile for my primary.  Since my secondary is not color critical and is just for tool pallettes, I just chose one that looked similar to my primary's (the one for the primary was too cool).
Reopened PS, and it was happy as a clam!

  • Photoshop Elements 9 monitor profile is defective in Windows 8.1

I'm using Windows 8.1 and  Photoshop Elements 9.  When I start the program I get the message "The monitor profile [name] appears to be defective.  Please rerun your monitor calibration software."  How do I do this?  Apparently Adobe Gamma is obsolete for this problem.  Also, the forum only talks about Photoshop 6.0-7x and Windows versions prior to 8.1.

Please check if the downloads are the full size, and not somehow truncated.
    PhotoshopElements_9_LS15.exe : 1.16 MB = 1,199 KB = 1,227,128 bytes
    PhotoshopElements_9_LS15.7z : 1.75 GB = 1,838,906 KB = 1,883,039,681 bytes

  • How can I fix 'Monitor profile defective'?

Hi Guys, I really could use some help.
I have recently installed Photoshop Element 7 and on opening the editor get the dialogue ‘The monitor profile LGW2242 appears to be defective.  Please rerun your monitor calibration software’.  It also provides the options ‘ignore profile’ or ‘use anyway’.
My Monitor is an LG Flatron W2242S (OK I know it’s not exactly top of the range but it provides a nice big work space).  LG support (that’s an oxymoron) (un)helpfully tell me that this is a problem with Photoshop which must be defective and have introduced a virus!
This issue appears to addressed on the Adobe website at  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328054.html However, I note this advice applies to PS and not PSE.  Am I right in assuming that Adobe Gamma is not a part of PSE7?  I cannot find it anywhere on my computer, nor can I find anywhere on the Adobe site where Adobe Gamma is available as a download.  Does the Adobe Color Management Module (CMM) supersede Adobe Gamma and/or do the same thing?  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3618
I have been through all the community threads, all the independent stuff on the web and I cannot find a solution to this problem - hence in desperation I am posting here.
    Can anyone tell me
    1.       Is Elements 7 supposed to ship with or include Adobe Gamma?  Adobe website says AG ships with Elements but that may refer to earlier versions.
    2.       If Elements 7 does not ship with Adobe Gamma are the two products compatible?  If so it MIGHT still solve the problem according to the comments made about this problem with earlier versions.
    3.       If they AG and AE7 are compatible WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD A COPY OF ADOBE GAMMA?
Am I only going to be able to solve this by upgrading to CS and/or buying a higher spec monitor or is this warning something that can just be ignored without affecting outcomes?
    Thanks in anticipation
    Peter

Adobe Gamma is no longer distributed with Adobe products. It was designed to help you visually calibrate CRT displays, and didn't produce good results with flat-panel displays.  Ignore the tech note you found, and don't worry about trying to install Adobe Gamma.
The "profile defective" message is most likely caused by an LG monitor profile that either doesn't conform with industry standards, or it does conform, is incompatible with PSE.  When PSE starts, you can safely click "ignore profile".
Color profiles tell software the color characteristics of individual scanners, printers, and displays.  So-called "color-managed" programs use those profiles to reproduce color more accurately.  Most programs on Windows are not fully color-managed, including most browsers, Windows Picture And Fax Viewer on XP, and Microsoft Office.  Adobe PSE and Windows Photo Gallery and Live Photo Gallery are color-managed.
Some display manufacturers ship profiles that attempt to represent the "average" of that model of display.   But your individual display may differ a fair bit from that "average".  That's why people who care about faithful color will use at least an inexpensive calibrator such as the Spider or Huey.
Moving forward, since PSE isn't able to use the LG display profile, and you probably aren't using any other color-managed programs, you could disassocate the profile from the display:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Colors_are_wrong
You could also go to the LG web site and see if they have an updated profile.

  • Monitor profile defective

Have researched this and found good answers.  But my question here is can you turn that pop-up message "The monitor profile "Samsung - Natural Color Pro 1.0 ICM" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software" on and off.
I may have checked the "don't show this message again" ??
If so...can I re-enable the the profile warning message and how ?
Or...does this pop-up only occur if there is a monitor profile issue when Photoshop starts ?
    Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)
    Thanks...TRinAz

The question is what alternative you picked before you checked "don't show". The options are "use anyway" and "discard" - and in the latter case sRGB is used instead.
The Samsung profile is very likely defective (many canned profiles are), so you're better off using sRGB unless you have a wide gamut monitor.
To correct the problem permanently you buy a calibrator to make a new monitor profile. Then it's moot.
EDIT: There is a Reset All Warning Dialogs in Preferences, to answer your question.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 - 'Monitor Profile Defective' Message

When opening Editor in Photoshop Elements 11, I get the warning message "The Monitor profile 'Dell S2240L Colour Profile, D65' appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor calibration software".
I have recently upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and also had to download DirectPlay when opening PE 11. Before upgrading, PE11 worked fine for over a year on same desktop and monitor (both only 1 year old). Driver monitor is up to date.
Please can someone tell me the possible cause and my options. I have seen lots of posts on this and other forums but not sure which is the right answer. Could 8.1 upgrade have caused it by changing a setting or is that just coincidence? Would re-install of PE11 make any difference?
Would appreciate help as this is infuriating (also happened on my old desktop with earlier version of PE)!
    Thanks.

PSE doesn’t like your monitor profile, for some reason.  It would seem that either your monitor profile is defective or PSE11 cannot read the monitor profile, now.
Try changing it to sRGB and see if the message stops:

When I open Elements 13 I have a message. The monitor profile "Dell S2340L color profile, D65" appears to be defective. I have a new Dell PC with Windows 8.1

You can check if the standard Srgb profile has been change.
    Close Elements.
Go to Start menu >> Control Panel >> Color Management.
    Click the Devices tab.
From the Device pop-up, select your monitor.
Check the ‘Use my settings for this device’ checkbox.
Make a note of the currently selected profile, which is marked as (default). If there isn’t an existing profile, you can skip this step.
    Click the Add button.
In the Associate Color Profile dialog, select sRGB IE61966-2.1 (sRGB Color Space Profile.icm) and press OK.
Back in the Color Management dialog, select the sRGB profile and click Set as Default Profile, and then close the dialog.

  • Monitor Profile is defective

Hello: I have a LG 19 inch monitor
that supports the DVI interface which I am using. Whenever I launch the editor in elements 8 I get a message that my monitor profile "L196WTQ" is defective and that I should rerun my monitor calibration software. I do not have such software. It gives me the option to go ahead and use the monitor anyway and everything looks ok to me but then everything looks good to my anyway so I'm not sure if I'm getting an accruate view of the photo. I welcome any thoughts and or suggestions.

Try associating the profile "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" instead and making it the default.   For some reason, some XP systems don't appear to let you remove the default profile, but they do let you change it.
While calibrating your display will give you better assurance that what you see on your screen is reasonably accurate, it isn't necessary to solve this problem.  If you do decide to calibrate, you could consider buying the Spyder3Express ($86) or the Pantone Huey ($60 at Amazon), both of which have reputations as good entry-level calibrators.
