Defective Router
I have this IP Camera from Linksys it's the (WVC80N ) and I have a WRT160N Router I have been trying to get it to send motion detection through the email for a long time now, now Upper Level Tech Support says that the problem isn't the Camera, it's the Routers Setup/Application & Gaming the Port Range Triggering is all grayed out, you can't put anything in it. They say the Router is defective, Is there anyway for me to fix this without having to replace the Router, the Router is only 3 months old.
I've been dealing with Upper Level Tech support for a long time, every since December, now I've had a Linksys Tech Support Expert call me on the phone and told me that sending images of Video through an email you do not even have to bother with the Router, with Single, Fowarding and Triggering Ports. He did some configurations on my computer from his location he said that my AT&T DSL account might work but I have to call them and tell them to get rid of Port 25, they did now I am absolutely scared to test it, because it just might fail again. And no Port Triggering is not grayed out anymore. Thanks Gollum

Do I have a defective router?
I have a Verizon supplied M1424WR router. About a week ago, the internet light went from green to orange. I called support and after various resets and disconnects to reload software, the thing came back up. (it took about 20 minutes to get it working and the tech had no idea what happened.). For the next couple of days everything was fine.
For the past 2 days, when I click on a URL (almost any URL) in the address box, the internet light just sits there for a good 5-15 seconds before it finally connects to the site. Once on a site, the speed seems to be fine, although sometimes when navigating a site, the same kind of delay occurs.
Oh and I always used the Verizon site to manage my FIOS TV remotely and now I cannot connect to my STB. I get the "unable to connect" message.
If I get agreement that it is the router, how do I get a new one from Verizon?
Thanks

Solved!
Go to Solution.I am not saying for sure if have a defective router, but I can tell what I know..
Those routers have a small/tiny NAT table, which may explain why you are having that/this/those issue(s).

Catch 22 on a defective router
My Linksys E4200v2 router died (no blinking lights when a network cable is attached). I bought the router in Jan. the Hard ware warrenty is good for another 170 days but CISCO technical support says they can not help me since the 90 days technical support period has passed unless i pay $29.
Is this a bait and switch?

Yes, I agree with sabretooth with that. You mean no lights at all right? -
Defective router or head space problem?
I just got an HP 9237 PC System 7 with wireless G networking. My older computer is hard wired into the router.
My airport extreme is also brand new, never used.
I can connect the HP on the Airport guest network, but I can't connect on the regular network. I can see the network in the list of available wireless networks, and both networks are set up in an identical except for the password.
But when I attempt to long into the wireless network, I get prompted for the password, I enter it, and then I get an error msg from the HP. But if I connect to the guest network, I get prompted for the password and then I connect OK.
This appears to be a problem with the airport router, but I wanted to ask you alls opinion before returning it.
I will continue with some more troubleshooting, I think I will change the guest network password to the same as the main wireless network password. Maybe somehow the HP isn't registering the seperate passwords, though I can't see why that should happen.fyi, apple support was able to tell me how to correct this problem. I offer their solution in the event this also affects anyone else.
They had me delete the guest network and leave only the main network up. I was then able to log into the main network.
Later I will put in another guest network, I assume that will work. For some reason when both networks are established at the same time, it can cause the main network to fail to be able to be connected to. At least fail with the HP Windows 7 computer I was using, not sure about other OS computers. -
Connection problems after installing wireless router: frequent "Server not found"
I recently got a Linksys wireless router but since then, a lot of webpages show "server not found" frequently. I can eventually open these if I keep refreshing the page or come back to it later. This only happens to my desktop PC connected by a cable but never happens to our 3 laptops with wireless connection. The LAN cable changed but problem persists. Desktop PC swapped but problem still persists. Is this simply a defective router?
What is the model no of the router...?
Try changing the MTU size to 1350 on the router and power cycle the router and check.. -
hi
i just picked up the e1200 router on new years eve and it started working fine but now theres issues. the biggest issue we have is that with our various devices work and then they dont want to work. it varies but its usually 1 or 2 that decide to not work and work again.
i have tried numerous attempts at livechat to fix this and not the best solutions.
what happens is this various router address comes on the device and blocks any internet on it.
it usually is 192.168.15.2 and that wont let any internet go on the device.
my current cell phone had this ip show up and then it switches over to different functioning ips as i refresh the router etc.
i hope its not a defective router and that it can be fixed or else ill exchange it.
but how do i permanently stop this problem?
i also have setting this error come up before your device is properly set up but could not work due to the dns server response.
would this all be due to comcast problem or a linksys problem?Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

FIOS Router Replacement - Is it leased (no charge for replacement)?
Hi all,
All's working good, no problems but I was curious about the procedure for replacing a defective Router Unit. I have the Westell Model A90-9100M15-10 (91OOEM) model Coax/Ethernet Router unit.
Is there an additional fee for obtaining a replacement? Are these Routers leased, ie, cost included in my monthly Verizon FIOS bill?
If I needed to order a replacement Router, is the shipping turnaround time usually 1 day?
Can these Routers be obtained at a local Verizon outlet store? I'm located near one of those stores.
Solved!
Go to Solution. The router is not leased. There is no monthly charge for it.
Over the years, VZ's policy regard the router has changed several times, so it depends on when you got the router.
1) Originally VZ gave away the router.
2) Then VZ stated charging for the router, but issuing a credit for the amount of the charge resulting in a net cost of $0.
3) Now VZ says they own the router.
In any case, VZ will replace a faulty router at no charge. They may or may not want the old router back depending on it's age.
Shipping turnaround on a replacement router is very fast. Whether you get it in one day depends on when you order it.
Yes, you should be able to obtain a replacement router at a VZ store. -
New AirPort Extreme will not connect to internet
Purchased AirPort Extreme to replace older D Link 655 router. All of my Apple gear has been plug and play except this
Extreme router. I cannot get an internet connection to save my soul. I tried connecting thru both my MacBook Pro and my HP Pavilion dv6. I just assumed I could move the ethernet cord from the DIR-655 to the AirPort and all would be fine. Not so. I have reset, unplugged and restarted so many times I lost count. Nothing works. What am I doing wrong. I even swapped out at store where I bought thinking I had defective router. any ideas? My wife works from home and I really need a better router with greater reach and thought this was it. Please help.Simply restarting the modem will not always allow it to reset correctly so that it will issue a new valid IP address to the AirPort Extreme.
Power off the cable modem completely for at least 30 minutes....longer will not hurt. Be sure to unplug the power cord from the back of the modem or unplug the power cord at the AC wall jack. If the modem has an easily accessible battery, pull the battery.
Power off the AirPort Extreme as well.
After the modem power down period, insure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme. Reinstall the modem battery if it was installed previously.
Power up the modem and let it run for 10 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run for a few minutes. Check to see if the Internet connection is working correctly now. -
During graphic intensive applications(gaming, netflix, etc), my macbook pro will randomly hard freeze(sometimes it's after a few minutes and other times several hours). I can't access any other applications during this, and I can't force quit using the shortcut. The only thing I can do is press the power button and turn it off. Somtimes I can move my mouse, and sometimes I can't. When I can, it is the colorful pinwheel.
I disabled automatic graphics switching, and that did not help. I then ran a hardware test, and it was hanging on the memory portion of the test. I took my mac to the apple store two weeks ago with this problem, and they thought it was a memory problem and replaced my memory (sidenote: I had taken my apple back for repairs in last October because of kernel panics. They replaced my hardrive, logicboard, and my memory, but they only put back in 4GB when I originally upgraded to 8GB). They upgraded my memory to the 8GB again with the replacement, and it seemed fine. I was using it without problems, but now my mac is having problems again.
Random freezes where I have to forcibly shut off my mac happen a couple times a day, and now I'm starting to get kernel panics. The kernel panics both involved the NVDAResman and Geforce in the extension backtrace. (I've had two kernel panics the past two days). It's also a lot slower starting up, and sometimes it freezes during the startup with the mac icon and the gray backdrop or the login screen forcing me to restart.
I ran the hardware test again out of curiosity, and it's still hanging at the memory portion of the test. I'm a little at a loss as to what to do.

A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. Ok so my MacBook Pro shuts itself down and restarts at least 4 times a day. Usually this happens when im away from my computer and its been idle or sleeping or whatever it does, however just 30 minutes ago this happened while i was using it and then it wouldnt restart it just kept showing the loading "apple" logo with loading bars comntinuously spinning... I had to shut it down manually and then it took an extra long time to load before finally loading to the user login page. Now generally... upon start up after this "panic" i will recieve a"Panic report" that says something aloong the lines of...

A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -

Macbook pro 13 inch mid 2010 crashing for no apparent reason
Hi there guys,
My Macbook Pro for the last few months keeps crashing for no apparant reason. I say this because it does not seem to matter what program I am running, how many programs I am running, or indeed have anything to do with my software. Im now sure of this because I took it to the genius bar today and they gave me a system format/reset and the problem is still there.
They also ran diagnostics on the hardware and everything seemed to be ok...
Has anyone else had this problem? I'll paste my report after my latest crash below incase anyone can make heads or tails of it!
Thanks everyone!

A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by starting up in safe mode and then restarting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test, if applicable.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve starting up from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Even if FileVault is not active, an aftermarket SSD may be the cause of kernel panics. Check the manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If the system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
Otherwise, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you. -

Thunderbolt Bus:That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
Otherwise, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
