Deferred instantiation for Flex 4?

In Flex 3, we can set the following properties in a container object for deferred instantiation:
creationPolicy = "queued"
creationIndex = "1" (or "2" or "3" etc.)
In Flex 4, for I can find the creationPolicy property but there is no creationIndex - trying to set the creationIndex throws a "deprecated" warning but there is no hint on what to use otherwise
Any ideas?

Spark will not support queued creationPolicy so there is no replacement.

ItemsComponent has a "creationPolicy" property that controls when the content items are created. Possible values are:
* "all" - content is created as soon as the ItemsComponent is created
* "auto" - content is created as soon as it is needed
* "none" - content is not automatically created. When this creationPolicy is set, you must call createDeferredContent().
The "contentCreationComplete" event is sent when the content has been created.
Added IDeferredContentOwner interface. ItemsComponent is the only Gumbo component that implements this interface.

Deferred Instantiation

We have a collection business object that contains business objects. Within
this collection object we have an attribute which is itself a business
collection object. What we would like to do is this. We want to be able to
instantiate the "main" collection object without instantiating its
attribute's collection object (thus we wish to defer instantiation of
subcollections within this collection object).
As it stands to instantiate our subcollection object we perform something
like the following when the user calls a method on the main collection like
GetSubCollectAttrib():
if SubCollectionAttrib = NIL then
SubCollectionAttrib = ServerSO.GetSubCollection();
end if;
return SubCollectionAttrib;
My questions are these. Should a business object have any knowledge that a
ServerSO even exists? What other ways have people gotten around the issue
of deferred instantiation? (Or is there a white paper or tech note we should
be looking at.)

There may well be problems with a business data object (BDO) referencing an
SO to fill in the deferred attributes - if the BDO migrates between
partitions the SO reference may become either unsupported or inappropriate.
One approach is to place the deferred instantiation logic in what has been
called a Partition-Visible object; this has been discussed previously in
this list - feel free to contact me for details. The BDO (or any other
party) can call this universal local facility to perform the deferred
instantiation, passing the BDO reference. A related problem is how to
determine which of three states an attribute is in: valued, deferred, or
NIL; using NIL for deferred is obviously a problem if three-way resolution
is needed. Not distinguishing between deferred and NIL states may be
expensive, if database i/o or other overhead is involved in instantiation.
Possible solutions that come to mind are paired flag attributes, flag
attributes reflecting the state of a whole group of value attributes, and
byte-string flags - I'd be interested in hearing othe suggestions on this
issue....

Error in executing a process for Flex compilation ....exceeds 32K...

Hi,
deployin my model i get the following error-message.
"Error in executing a process for Flex compilation, Error: Branch between 64935 and 97770 around line 0 exceeds 32K span. If possible, please refactor this component.
Error: Branch between 64935 and 97770 around line 0 exceeds 32K span."
Do i delete a sort-element from my model it is deployed very well. So what does this message exactly mean and how can I locate where the error occurs and how can i fix that problem because i need this sort-element to be in my model.

Hi Tobias,
You are receiving this error due to a current limitation in the Flex server. How you can fix this is to split the iView you are currently working on into two iViews, and embed one within the other. This will decrease the size of the current iView you are receiving the error for and eliminate this problem.

What are the better load/performance testing tools available for Flex Application with BlazeDS RO?

In my application is designed with Flex3, ActionScript3, BlazeDS Remote Objects.
Just i tried with OPENSTA but i cant do the dynamic parameterization in their generated scripts because the response of the calls is binary values and also we cant get the response using with SCL language.
While testing with OPENSTA with HttpService, i can do the dynamic parameterization and got the response.
can give the information about the below questions

Your approach is fine, depending on how many and what type of CFCs you are talking about. If they are "singletons" - that is, only one instance of each CFC is needed to be in memory and can be reused/shared from multiple parts of your application - caching them in the application scope is common. Just make sure they are thread safe ("var" or local.* all your method variables).
You might consider taking advantage of a dependency injection framework, such as DI/1 (part of the FW/1 MVC framework), ColdSpring, or WireBox (a module of the ColdBox platform that can be used independently). They have mechanisms for handling and caching singletons. Then you wouldn't have to go to the application scope to get your CFC instances.

Did you ever figure out what was going on? i've got the same issue.
I record 2 hour choir practices then edit the talking out to make more useful accompaniments for personal practice. During my editing process my MacBk Pro (0r GarageBand) decides it needs to "Analyzing audio for Flex Time Editing". It will finish doing it and immediately start over again. I can not cancel it so I just have to force quit Garageband and lose eveeryrthing I have editied since my last Save. I've shut my mac totally off and rebooted and to no avail. Any suggestions?

Does the new AIR SDK support iOS 64-bit for Flex Developers?

I saw that the new AIR SDK(December 18, 2014) has supported iOS 64-bit, but it was only supported in the new compiler. See this:

compatible with iOS 64-bit. Because of this, it will be removed with version 16 of the AIR SDK. To ensure that Adobe as well as third party tools

I guess, you might be packaging IPA on windows machine. Please try latest beta at http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html which has iOS64 support on Windows machine as well.

I did my certification in SAP SD from Bangalore by month of October 2012, after that
i received only one opportunity to attend interview at Capgemini, I cleared my
interview but unluckily project was canceled and they haven't done any recruitment.
your view is add on Knowledge, still I am maintaining studying, at least every day 7hrs plus, but problem is, job market or industry not have need of certified person, companies prefer to get 3 years real time exp persons more willingly than certified fresher.
I had discussed with few of the HR managers, their reply was, in certification course there is no real time project training, it’s just about overall SAP concept, so we prefer 1 or 2 years exp people.
So my opinion is going for SAP SD certification is useless and money wasting.

The Airport built-in to the iMac is exactly the same standard as that used in PC's 802.11b/g compatible and possibly 802.11n as well depending on the model. It means that anywhere you use can use a PC for wireless you should be able to use the iMac. It sounds as though your wireless network is protected with a WEP Key or similar encryption method and you have not entered the correct key into the iMac when attempting to join the wireless network or have not selected the appropriate key type from the drop down list. Quite a common situation is that if your password for your wireless network is a hex key, i.e only contains the numbers 0-9 and letters A-F then you need to select WEP Hex Key as the password type when joining the wireless network not WEP Password.

AIR Extentions for Flex Builder 2

I was watching some video's on lynda.com about developing
AIR/Apollo applications with Flex, so I bought the software. One
thing it mentioned was to make sure and install the Apollo
extentions for Flex which can be found at the adobe website. I can
not find the extenions anywhere!? Can anyone point me in the right
direction as to where I can find the extentions?

GWT meets Flex: Java API for Flex

Hello people,
I m somedays away to release the version 2.1 of gwt4air. gwt4air is an open source project based on gwt (http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/) and provides a Java API to different platform where Java is not the primary language.
Version 2.0 added among other features support for Adobe AIR, Alive PDF, Pure PDF, Aswing and other GWT based UI libraries like EXT-GWT
With version 2.1 i added support for Flex(AIR and Browser). The goal of this approach is to make it easy for Java Developers to switch to Flex be leveraging a swing like API. But also to present an alternative to the classical Flex developement. The overall idea behind this is described here:

The application contains around 100 demos with source code illustrating the use of the api.
I ve tried to keep the API similar to the AS3 api so one could easely switch from AS3 to Java and vice versa

The application is still in alpha stage so please expect some errors.

'Deferred payment for equipment' ?

I am cancelling/closing my BT account, and received an email from BT explaining about some charges that I will incur due to ending my contract early.
One of these:
Charge for your equipment - You'll need to pay about £65 for your outstanding equipment charges. You can find out more about this under 'Deferred payment for equipment' at bt.com/legalstuff
Now as far as I can see, the word 'Deferred' does not appear on that page anywhere.
So - what is this charge for? The only equipment I have received from BT is the HH5 - and I have received another email asking me to return this...
I dont mind one or the other - but having to pay for something AND returning it seems a little much.

It's BT's way if imposing large charges on people who leave early without actually calling them penalty charges - because OFCOM doesn't allow penalty charges any more.
When BT send you a Home Hub, they are not giving it to you or lending it to you. They are selling it to you instead. All the time you are a customer, you don't have to pay. If you see out a full year of broadband payments, then BT will write off the price of the Hub, and you never have to pay.
BT are asking you to return the hub for refurbishing or recycling. You don't have to if you don't want to - after all it's now your Home Hub.
The relevant section from the T&Cs is:-
Deferred Payment for Equipment
In some cases we will allow you to defer payment of the full price of the equipment we supply for use with the service. If you then end the service within 12 months of BT accepting your order and you did not pay the full price of that equipment when you placed your order, then you will be liable to pay the balance – that is the price of the equipment as set out in the Tariff Guide, less any amount which you paid upfront when you placed your order, unless you end the service within the cancellation period (as detailed in paragraph 10 of the Residential Standard Terms). The deferred payment is no longer payable after you have received service for 12 months or more from the date that your order was accepted by BT.

Spring Service class for Flex

Hi Guys,
I have to display data from db on to Flex page. For which I have been asked to create Service class for Flex screen. But i donot know what is service class, what should be its functionality. I am totally new to this.
Can anyone tell me what is Service class & how to create it.?
What should be the content of Service Class ?
How is it linked to db (preferably by iBatis).?
Are there any config files ?
How to use it to populate the data through Service class ant send it to Flex screen to display data.?

The purpose of NativeWindow in your app is to make it visible and maximise it. The converted web app is in the browser window so that it is visible so you don't have to worry about that part. As for maximising, you should not change the size of the browser window (you can make it full screen but then if you do you'd lose the keyboard interactions.) So the short answer is just remove that chunk of code
