Define half letter size

How can I define the half letter size in numbers. I only see preset sizes but no way to make a custom size.
Please help.
Thanks to all,
Mark

I may be repeating myself but everybody may make an error.
The team which build the code is not the team which write the Help which is not the one which translates for localised versions.
Given some discovered differences, I'm not sure that the team writing the Help is the one writing the User Guide.
Given that, synchronising these teams is not an easy task and for sure it's far from being perfectly done.
But you are wrong when you blame the Next team.
The problem already striked before the arrival of this team.
The well known syndrom "not invented here" is an old one in AppleLand and not only it strikes in the entire company but it seems that it apply to each team.
I discussed recently with a friend which was an Apple Employee before the arrival of the Next team. We where remembering some oddities of this kind during OS 8 and OS 9 era.
Even my good old friend AppleWorks was victim of this problem in version 5 which was not built in AppleLand but in ClarisLand.
In fact my guess is that teams where becoming too big and that the logistic required to coordinate these big teams was not adequate.
Looking in the internals of iWork components trying to understand some odd behaviors, I discovered that the naming of identical items is different from on app to an other one.
I discovered that there is no feedback between the teams driving AddressBook for instance and the teams driving iWork components. So, items shared by AddressBook and iWork aren't localized the same way with automatic odd results.
Even in a single component of iWork, it seems that the team localising the program in a given language is not the one localising the help and the User Guide.
So the same object is named a way (rang) in an area and named an other way (ligne) in an other area.
So, upon the availability of oddities, I may agree with you but I totally disagree with the given explanation.
Even in the Hertzfeld era, egos where seriously conflicting in Cupertino with odd effects.

  • HP Color Laserjet 2550N problem with letter size documents

If user sends a Letter size print job to the printer loaded with A4 paper printer fails to print until we hit the continue button even if the "Auto Continue" feature is selected. This feature is important because even if A4 is the standard paper size here in AU, most of the microsoft application defaults to Letter (we get lots of document from outside source and constantly hunting them down and changin them is not the viable solution).
We have lots of complain about this because half of our users who uses PC don't have this problem, so the source lies in the OSX driver for this printer. The printer driver setting also has a feature called "Paper Matching" which is set to "Nearest Size and Scale" which doesn't work as intended. After dealing with HP for about a month and a half they have refused to take any responsibility regarding this issue and blamed OSX. Any advise would be great.

it seems that HP has not released a compatible driver for Windows Server 2008 yet. You may need to contact with HP support to see if they have a latest driver for Windows Server 2008 or if they have plan to develop a Windows Server 2008 compatible driver
for this printer. You can visit the following HP support site:

    Hi Devidas,
I would suggest not deleting the OEM partition, as it contains system hidden files

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Scan software doesn't have 8.5x11 letter size option

Just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
The included HP Scan software will only let me choose A4 or A5 paper sizes (as well as 6x4, 7x5, 8x6, 10x8).  No 8.5x11 option, which is what I want to use most often.  (this is from the dropdown options after clicking the "Scan..." button)
Is there something I'm missing?  I'm generally pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I haven't even seen this issue mentioned on forums, so I'm confused.
Also, when using the Scan To Computer function directly from the printer, I get the same result - it will scan my 8.5x11 document and output an A4 size file.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I have installed all software and firmware updates I could find.  I have my printer's region set to Canada, and bought the machine from a Staples in Canada.  Wondering why I can't use any North American size formats?

@Simple1234 - I have reinstalled the software from HP's website, and no change. (it's actually the same version that came on the installation CD - 12.23).
@Sethaniel - I have definitely tried every combination of settings in those drop down lists, so that's not it.
Ruling out OS issues, my girlfriend is running 10.8, and the HP software is doing the same thing on her computer.
Using the System Preferences scanning method, I can choose paper sizes if set to scan from document feeder.  If I change to flatbed, I have the option to manually type in the dimensions I want, but then I'm forced to manually drag the crop area to which 8.5x11 portion of the flatbed it will scan.  Again, there's no way to just have the flatbed scan a letter size document automatically when placing the page at the top corner of the flatbed, where it shows you to place the page for letter size.
This seems like the most basic function of a scanner!  I'm really perplexed by this.  I would imagine most people in north america would just want to place an 8.5x11 sheet of paper on the flatbed and have an easy way to scan the correct size with no added fuss.
Printing works fine, and I can choose letter size, and many adjustable settings, so I think this is just a problem with HP's scanning software.  I have tried all the usual basic steps, like restarting my computer & the printer, reinstalling software, running software update, looking through all the settings in the HP Scan software, any global settings I could change in System Preferences, tried using a different computer and OS X version, googling the issue, and posting on this forum.
    Any other ideas?

  • Scanning - Letter size paper transfers to Legal Size in PDF

When I scan letter size paper via Adobe it is saved as a legal size.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer drivers.  How do I change the PDF paper to letter size?

  • Is there a way to split a very large 1 page pdf into letter size multiple page pdf?

I often have very large single page pdfs that need to be printed onto letter size paper.  Usually I don't have access to the printer where I'm working so I have to send the file to someone for printing.
I have AXI pro, they don't.
I want to make sure the job is printed as I specify and most of the users are using Reader.  So I want to give the someone the pdf ready to print sized in legal.  This requires manipulation of the pdf that I don't seem to be able to figure out how to do.
In older versions of Acrobat, I could print to a new pdf and designate the page size.  Acrobat would create the multipage pdf.  The newer versions don't allow this.
With OSX 10.8 & AXI you can't save, export, split a one page (68" x 16") document into multiple page letter size (16 pages) pdf.
Perhaps this can be done by printing to eps and running through distiller again or something else, but I'm stumped at the moment.
Any suggestions of how to attach this would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

That's a tough one. Acrobat is not designed for tiling PDF files to create another PDF. That's really what you're asking. There is the option to PRINT to a PDF, and turn on the Poster feature. If were in Windows where there is a real Adobe PDF printer driver, you could probably use that feature. But for various reasons (too complicated to describe here), that was withdrawn on the Macintosh.
If you have a copy of Adobe InDesign, and if you installed an Adobe PDF 9 PPD file (see description below), it could be done in a somewhat awkward way. InDesign allows you to place PDF files so you would need to make a page of the proper size and place your large PDF:
Then after installing the Adobe PDF 9 PPD file, you could choose File > Print. Then choose to print a PostScript file to the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD file. In the Setup panel, you'd choose a Letter size page. Then you'd choose the Tile option at the bottom and set the Overlap amount:
Then you'd save the PostScript file and process through Distiller.
My blog post below describes how to find and install the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD file:

  • I am trying to scan a legal size document from my Canon printer onto my MacBookPro. It scans the document as a letter size.

I am having trouble scanning a legal size document from my Canon printer onto my MacBookPro. I have set the printer paper size option to legal size on my printer. The scanned document comes through as a letter size document after scanning. I do not see an option in iPhoto to change the paper size.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks.

Experience has taught me that it pays to be very precise and specific when dealing with computers. Precisely and specifically, what you describe is impossible. It is impossible to scan a document (of any size) with a printer.
I surmise that you are using an all-in-one, ie, an apparatus which combines a printer, a scanner, and sometimes a fax machine, in the same device. That takes us to the next step -- the page size set for printing is used for printing -- it has nothing to do with scanning. It may be possible that Canon provides software which synchronises page sizes used for printing and for scanning, but we don't know what applications and drivers you are using…

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.

HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g can not define a custom size paper.  I would like to have a custom size to work with a card making program.

    Can you help me out?
I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a
When I try to print to a custom print size (2.75" x 6" in my case), I get the same error everyone else is reporting: "Paper detected does not match paper size or type selected. Make sure the paper size or type is correct to continue the job."
I am currently trying to print using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5, but I have the same problem with printing from Adobe Reader 9.8.5 or Preview 8.0.
    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.
My printer's firmware is "up to date" as of 28-Aug-2014.
    This is what I did:
    1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Click on the Printers & Scanners icon.
    3. Click on the + sign under the list of printers to add a printer
    4. Click on IP
    5. Enter my IP address in the Address field (verified as "valid and complete host name or address")
    6. Ignore Protocol field (default is Line Printer Daemon - LPD)
    7. Ignore Queue field (default is blank for default queue)
    8. Ignore Name field (default is IP address)
    9. Ignore Location field (default is blank)
    10. Under the Use dropdown menu, I select "Select Software"
    11. HP Deskjet 9800 is not an option.
I searched for 9800, but there is no HP printer with that number in the options.
I tried selecting "HP DeskJet 980C - Gutenprint v5.2.3" to see if that would work, but I received the same error message as above. I tried selecting other random HP printers, but so far I've had no luck.
I've been googling about for a way to manually add a printer driver to this "Select Software" list, but I've found nothing (apparently, no one else wants to do this). I did not find a driver download for the HP DeskJet 9800 for OS X Yosemite 10.10 on the Drivers & Software section of the hp.com website.
Additional details on settings for Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 version 14.4.5:
Selected File > Page Setup from menu
Under the Paper Size drop down menu, I selected manage custom size.
    - Click + to add a paper size
    - Enter "2.75" in width and "6 in" height in the paper size fields.
    - Enter "0 in" as the User Defined Non-Printable Area for top, left, right and bottom.
    - Double-clicked Untiled in the custom size list and rename the size as Receipt
    - Click OK to return to the Page Setup dialog box
    Under Settings: Page Attributes:
    - Format for "HP Officejet Pro 8600"
    - Paper size: Receipt
    - Orientation: "tall/portrait"
    - Scale: 100%
    - Click OK
Select Format > Document and set all page margins to 0.25"
    Thank you.

  • 4K TV not recognized correctly: MacBook Pro Mid2014 15" reports a Samsung UE40HU6900 4K TV as 8K (7680x4320). This results in an ugly, washed out image half the size it should be. Is there a fix for this? (OSX 10.10.1)

    MacBook Pro Mid2014 15" reports a Samsung UE40HU6900 4K TV as 8K (7680x4320).
This results in an ugly, washed out image half the size it should be. If you turn off scaling everything is tiny as 8K are displayed on a 4K screen. To get the actual 4K resolution you have to turn on scaling. Still 8K is transferred to the device, but doubling the data lines makes the picture look washed out and create obscure effects for line borders.
Did anybody encounter this problem before? Is there a fix for this? (OSX 10.10.1)

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • I am using Acrobat Reader 11.0.10 . I cant print mixed originals and also I cannot print letter size correctly . printing of first two pages ok but the rest gets cut off at the top

How can I print from MAC with Acrobat Reader. I can't seem to get it to print correctly , first two pages of letter size works ok after the remaining pages get moved up and the printing is cut off.

I arrived here looking for a solution!  And while reading your post the penny dropped that I didn't have a serious problem.  I have a booklet of 112 pages and all I needed to do was re-order the pages as printed so that 1 is followed by a sheet with 2 on the under-face but same side and so on.  The pages had printed back to front and needed flipping.  But then I have a duplex printer and maybe that makes a difference.  Is it to do with your manual duplexing and the order that the second pass is presented to the printer.  As my duplex sheets effectively needed flipping over each one I'm wondering if you can solve your problem with a little experimentation and re-ordering before your second pass.
