Defining application server
i know sap has 3 tier str.

It will be very nice of you, if you can explain what is an application server.
Link will be helpful , but if someone can explain in simple words, that will be more helpful
thanks

Load ODS data to Application server file
Hi,
I need to upload ODS data to application server.
I can not use Open Hub service. I need to do the upload process in background as there is around 5 million data in ODS. Can anybody please guide
deepHi,
You can use Analytic Process Designer for your requirement.
Use 'RSANWB'.
It will allow you to select the source as DSO and also you can choose target as some logical path where you can define Application server path as Physical path. Use "FILE'
Also you can schedule the process in background.
Further you can refere to :

User-Defined tasks per application server
Hi guys,
In the Central Systems Administration, I am able to create user-defined tasks for our production system. These tasks appear in the SOLUTION_MANAGER main window as tasks on the system.
My question is, how can I create a user-defined task for each application server on the system, not on the system as a whole.
For example, lets pretend I want to run SM50, which is an appserver-specific transaction. If I create this as a user-defined task, it only creates it for the production server itself, not each of the application servers.
How can I do this? I want this functionality so that when I click the Execute button for the task, it will run the transaction on the correct application server, not on the central instance.
Thanks,

How to declare parameters to be defined at Application Server level
I am currently wondering how to define context parameters that apply to all the web applications that are running on a server instance.
For instance, on the JRUN platform, it is possible to do so by setting servlets, filters, welcome file mappings or context parameters in the default-web.xml file.
Is there a similar file to be updated on the Netweaver Application Server platform?
Thanks in advance for any reply posted.
Cheers, ChristopheHi,
In general all configuration settings in AS-JAVA can be done using VA/Config Tool (for NW 7.0) on NWA/Config Tool (for versions >= NW 7.1).
SAP does provide templates (CTC Templates) to ease the basic configuration steps for usage types/products. But those are pre-defined ones which are supplied by SAP.

BPEL not able to read JMS Queue defined on a remote Application Server
We are trying to access a JMS queue (defined on an Oracle AS different from the SOA Suite AS) through BPEL and read the payload. When I am trying to read the JMS queue, somehow it is trying to get the queue information from my local application server and not going to the remote one.
I have done the following setups on my local SOA Suite Enterprise manager for the queue connection factory. The adapter name is "eis/jms/XXXQueueAdapter"
connectionFactoryLocation: jms/ESBSubscriberQueue
factoryProperties:
java.naming.factory.initial=oracle.j2ee.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory;java.naming.provider.url=opmn.ormi://hostname:port; java.naming.security.principal=oc4jadmin;java.naming.security.credentials=Password
Where "hostname:port" is for the remote Application Server.
On the BPEL side, I have created a connection for the Remote server in the Enterprise Manager. Then I have created a partnerlink using this connection. The OEMS is "File/Memory". The Destination Name is the Queue name on the Remote AS which I can browse. The JNDI name is "eis/jms/XXXQueueAdapter" (Which is the name of the connection I created on my local). Somehow when the BPEL process is run, it is trying to look for the JMS Queue on my local server.
I have also used the Third Party option instead of Oracle AS with the same configuration and it does not work either.
Any help would be really appreciated.

User defined name in place of application server in SAPGUI 6.40
Hi,
Can anybody please let me know how to define company name in place of static Ip in SAPGUI 6.40.
I am using AIX 5.3L / Oracle 9.x / ECC 5.0
I have given static IP in the space provided for application server which I don't want. I want to give company initials (XYZ) in place of application server for the safety purpose.
Thanks in advance
SanjayU can put the ip of the host server or the hostname of the server. How can you put the company's name. And wven if you put the company name which machine it will connect.
But if you want to do it by any means then do it as under\
In the frontend computer got to---->Windows->system32-->Drivers--->etc
There will be a file hosts.
make the following entry in this file
192.168.0.xxxx company name
means the ip of the sap server your company name
Use this name in the sapgui setting.
But the restriction is that in every frontend machines this entry has to be mentioned.
Pl dont forget to award points

Define install folder for Application server
Hi,
in TOOLS 8.50 I'm creating an AS domain. But it is created in C:\Documents and Settings\Adm
inistrateur\psft\pt\8.50\appserv\ :
Creating domain...
Copying application server configuration files...
Copying [F:\psoft50\PSPT850\appserv\small.cfx] to [C:\Documents and Settings\Adm
inistrateur\psft\pt\8.50\appserv\ALHR9050\psappsrv.cfg]
Stripping Annotations...
Copying [F:\psoft50\PSPT850\appserv\small.cfx] to [C:\Documents and Settings\Adm
inistrateur\psft\pt\8.50\appserv\ALHR9050\psappsrv.cfx]
Copying Jolt repository file...
Domain created. Why ? How can I define install folder ?
Thanks. That's because you did not set the environment variable PS_CFG_HOME.
It is new from PT8.50, when this is not set, the domain configuration files are going into the user's folder.
If you ever want to find your domains under PS_HOME as before, you should set this variable equal to the PS_HOME it should go to.

Crystal Reports "Report Application Server"
Does anyone have any experience with Crystal Reports' Report Application Server (RAS)?
The provided documentation is very thin and support are taking an age to respond.
I want to use a Bean as a data source for a report. The blurb says you can do this, but the only documented way I can find is for the bean to return a ResultSet, completely missing the point of using a bean or EJB in the first place.
Now, Seagate's sales blurb states that Beans and EJBs can be used as data sources, but if the only way to do this is to return a common or garden ResultSet, what's the point of the bean???
So, has anyone sucessfully used a bean or EJB as a data source for report generation under RAS, or merely CR in general, without resorting to a ResultSet??Crystal Reports YUK!! especially in Java Forum!Tell me about it!!
But, like many developers, I don't get a choice. I have to use CR, and I have to integrate it into a Tomcat (4.1.24) based app. There is a Java API for RAS, but it is a pile of dung. Can you imagine publishing an API with public methods with 'do not use, for internal use only' plastered all over them!!!
But still, back to the original question, I have to find a way of doing this, but Seagate's javadocs are a mess, as are the howto docs. All of the examples, as you might expect, are childishly simple and don't give any insight into the large and hideous API :(
Here is an example of a CR howto.....
There appear to be two ways of creating a data source that isn't an existing report or a database query. This
Runtime data sources
One of the strengths of RAS over the Crystal Reports application, is that the RAS
can use data generated programatically at runtime. With a runtime data source,
you can take data from any sourcesuch as a database, a data stream, or a flat
filemanipulate it with the programming language of your choice, and display it
with RAS.
To use a runtime data source
1 Put your manipulated data in a rowset form that can be processed by the RAS.
Consult the Rowset object and interface in the SDK JavaDocs, for details on
creating rowsets.
2 Create and fill the Dataset object with the rowset data.
3 Create a RowsetController object.
4 Add or set the data source using the RowsetControllers AddDataSource or
SetDataSource methods respectively.
The runtime data source is now available for use.
Note: If you create a report based on a data set, the data that is used is not saved
with the report. To populate the report with data the next time you open it, you
must either re-apply the data source to see current data, or access a saved version
of the data source for preview.
All well and good, but RowsetController doesn't have an AddDataSource or SetDataSource method!!!!
and this......
JavaBean custom data sources
You can use a JavaBean (or a Java class that does not extend the bean type) in order
to specify a custom data source. In order to do this, you will need to:
Creating a Java class that specifies a custom data source
Referencing a java class to provide data for a report
Creating a Java class that specifies a custom data source
To use a JavaBean (or a Java class that does not extend the bean type) in order to
specify a custom data source, you will need to create a class that serves as a Java
Beans Connectivity data source for creating Crystal Reports.
This class will need to conforms to the JavaBean standard by defining private
properties that are accessible only through get and set methods. In this way the
Crystal Reports designer can introspect the class as a Bean. The JavaBean
connectivity classes require the following.
The constructor must have zero parameters.
Methods that are used as "tables" must have a return type of ResultSet.
Statement objects must be created using the
ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE and ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY
arguments.
Note: Methods returning ResultSet can take arguments, these are treated as
Stored Procedure parameters by Crystal Reports.
Now, what the hell is the point of going to the trouble of abstracting your business data into a bean or EJB, if that bean has to return a ResultSet for Crystal Reports to use??!! -
PDF stored on Application Server - Need to retrieve and display
Hi All,
Let me explain to you what I am doing and how I have not succeeded.
I am quiet a senior ABAP guy henceforth I am posting this and have also looked for previous posts to no avail.
Firstly, I use GUI_UPLOAD and OPEN dataset to store a PDF file on the Application Server. I have retrieved it with CG3Y without any problems. My requirement is that I have a list of these PDF files displayed on a report and a user selects ONE line and clicks VIEW PDF (custom ALV). This should then launch the PDF in acrobat from the Application server.
I have tried WS_EXECUTE but that does not work. I do not even mind if this PDF is displayed in HTML or an image. I just need some help??
ANy help will be greatly rewarded.
Thanks!!the working of this code is embedded in the comment:

Message bean does not start automatically during application server startup
I have a message bean that does not start up during application server startup. I am able to successfully start the application manually using the visual admin tool.I searched the logs and found the following error. The error references the "QueueConnectionFactory" is not deployed or is not started. I have check and the "QueueConnectiopnFactory" is deployed. Is this a problem with the application trying to start before the "QueueConnectionFactory"? Is thier a way to define a dependency on my application not to start until the "QueueConnectionFactory" has been started, if so can how would I define this dependency. Please provide and example.
Thanks,
Bill

I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.

Oracle Application Server 10g Cloning - Urgent
Hello All,
I have been given a new assignment which involves Oracle Applications server 10g, i am new to oracle application server and hoping that some one will please clarify my doubts.
i have to clone a production machine (Solaris 10) which has oracle AS 10g, this machine had oracle database 10g before and just the application server was installed on it, i have to clone a test environment for this machine, i have the following two doubts
1) Is it possible to just install Oracle Application server 10g on a machine which already contains oracle 10g database, if so then what about the database that gets installed when installing Oracle application server 10g.
2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?

2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?1) Yes, it is possible. The DB that comes with OAS as the infrastructure DB for it (I presume you are installing a full OAS with infrastructure and midtier both) does not affect the DB you already have on your system ... obviously ... as long as you install them in their separate homes.
2) I always say, this term cloning is somewhat loosely used in general communication meaning making copies. In OAS context, Cloning works for middletiers only. You cannot clone an infrastructure.
To make a redundant/alternate environment for OAS, you can do the following:
- a) either use the same infra on machine 1, and install another midtier and register with the same infra.
- b) or install a separate infra on machine 2, and also a midtier registered with it.
Here for the first option a), Cloning can be used because you can (*only*) clone a middle-tier. There are pros and cons for this setup, including that you share the SSO, and OID, and hence users and groups bases, etc on those two environments - something that you may or may not want. But then there are also some way-outs to avoid them or minimize their effects too. Please see the following reference for cloning and search on Metalink for how to minimize effects, once you get better familiar with the processes.
Oracle® Application Server Administrator's Guide
10g Release 2 (10.1.2)

[10 Cloning Application Server Middle-Tier Instances|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13995/cloning.htm#BCGBDIDF]
For b), you will need to Stage a server as defined in this reference.
[11 Staging a Test Environment from a Production Environment|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/core.1012/b13995/prodtest.htm]
There are some notes on Metalink which address issues about benefits or procedures of Cloning and Staging an environment too.
There are some other ways to export/transport your applications to another instance across DB. Please also read about them.
hope that helps!

Deploying Jave portlet on Oracle Application Server 10g
I have installed Oracle 10g Application server, donwloaded and installed JDevleoper 9.0.5.1 and the latest Java Portal Development and as well as the JDeveloper portlet-addin. Now, I followed the instructions from the http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/ARTICLES/BUILD.JSR168.PORTLETS.USING.JAVA.PORTLET.WIZARD.9IJDEVELOPER.HTML
On using JDeveloper addin wizrd to create a java portlet and so far so good. However, I am stuff on the last bit on deployment. It document says "# Now use the URL provided in the log page at the bottom of JDeveloper to get part of your URL (e.g. http://myserver.uk.oracle.com:8888/my-portlet) and complete the URL.
http://myserver.uk.oracle.com:8888/my-portlet/portlets?WSDL
Now use this URL to register your portlet with OracleAS Portal.
But when i deploy my application (just a test thing), from the deployment tab I get:

Many thanks

I have tried:
http://{myserver}:8888/{my-portlet}/portlets?WSDL but that doesn't workHi FormsEleven,
When you say you can do this or you have done for demo then considering following directory structure if I have two forms having common form names how it will be resolved?
Or how the url to access these forms will be?
As shown in the following structure consider we have Form1 in sub directory1 as well as in sub-directory2 then how the link to access these forms will be?
