Deinterlacing QT files converted to H.264

I recently tried converting a DV file to H.264 to save on space, however, the video seems to be 'interlaced'--i.e. lines of the video seem to be slightly skewed from each other, namely on the moving image part of the video. Am I missing a setting? (I know that Handbrake as a 'deinterlace' setting, but this is a pure DV file I have imported from my digital video camera).
For reference, I have set the H.264 settings to:
Frame Rate: Current
Key Frames: Auto
Quality: High
Data Rate: 2000 kbits/sec
Use current size
I did a search on this discussion group on deinterlacing, and found some message, but they are saying something like "thanks for your tips on deinterlacing in this newsgroup" and I cannot seem to find the original tips. So, my apologies if this is a repeat question for some of you.
PowerMac G4 Quicksilver   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   RAM: 1+ gig

So, there is no setting in QT to do this?
...actualy there is a QT bug that can be used to deinterlace video:
It works at least with DV files this way: if the clip is scaled from its native resolutions AND if its playback setting is deinterlaced, THEN the exported DV is deinterlaced (or field blended).
why this interlacing happens
Interlacing makes smoother motion on a TV possible. With interlaced material you get PAL/NTSC 50/60 fields per second while with deinterlaced/progressive material you get only 25/30 frames per second and the movements are jerkier with that "film look" some people for some strange reason like...

  • MP4 file type Codec H.264

I convert movies to MP4 file types with H.264 codec and they will play in itunes, but they will not load on my ipod. How can I get them loaded onto my ipod?

Answered my own problem. With my iskysoft imedia converter I would convert the movies with H.264 with a MP4 file extension and they would not load into the ipod classic. But when i use the .m4v the movies are saved with the H.264 codec and they load easily onto the pod!

  • I have MTS files imported from a Canon HD cam. They import into I movie and I see them in the Finder folders and they preview fine. I have a new project and some of the clips are freezing and some audio is now gone? Do i need a file converter and convert

I have MTS video files that import from a Canon Vixia HF S20 HD camera. I imported into I Movie. They converted into MOV files and I see them in the movies folder in finder. They view fine and run through the events folder in Finder. In I Movie, I created a new project and used a "Theme". The project worked fine at first but then some clips started to freeze and some lost audio. The effected clips are the same in the project library and in the event library, meaning they are froze in both places. As I said when i view through finder the MOV files preview and work fine.  Is this inherent to MTS files using in I movie. SHould i consider using a file converter to convert to MOV files prior to importing into I movie.
I found on Apple support site info that states the MTS files can only be imported through the camera. I am developing my back up procedures and now I am faced with backing up in the original MTS files but not being able to reload if necessary into I movie. Any suggestions?

I'd like to add that after I import these clips without thumbnails, iMovie does give me an error and say that they could not be imported. No explanation as to why, though. Again, they play fine on my camera.

  • Need a file converted from InD CS5 to InD CS4...

Had someone do some work for me and their source file came as a CS5 InDesign version 7 file (I think)... which I cannot open in CS4 InD version 6.  Is there such as thing as file converter of some kind or do I need to have them or someone else open it in CS5 and save it in some compatible format?

Yes (well, to the 2nd part of your question).
Ask someone who has a CS5 to save it as IDML, or (always an option!) download the fully functional trial of CS5, and you have about 30 days to do it yourself.

  • Adobe X PDF files converted to jpg, edited and converted back to PDF have ragged, unclear text.  I didn't have this problem with Acrobat 9 standard.  What is the remedy for this.  If this is the best I can expect, I won't be able to use X standard.

I can't imagine any worse workflow than converting to JPEG to edit text, then back to PDF. Text in a PDF is a vector thing, smooth at all resolutions. And JPEG is made for photos. EVERY conversion to JPEG and back loses quality but how much loss there is will vary.
If you must go to an image format, try PNG.

  • I was informed i need to purchase standard 11 or standard 12 (?) in order to make word files converted from pdf editable. how do i do this?

i was informed i need to purchase standard 11 or standard 12 from adobe in order to make files converted from pdf to word using the recently bought and installed adobe pdf exporter file. how/where do i do this?

Currently the Acrobat version is "XI" (no "12").
    With Acrobat XI installed:
"File - Save As Other"  --- from here you pick the supported file format for the export.
If a PDF has content that is the output of a scanner then that output (as is the case for All scanners' output) is a picture of text and not real text.
During an export all that can be processed is the picture. As a picture of text is not text it is understandable why Word (or other word processors) cannot edit the content.
So, for such, prior to export run Acrobat's OCR and save.
The export will be of the OCR content.
Do expect to do clean of the text, spelling, punctuation, layout etc.
This may be minor. This may be major. But, there will be some.
Adobe as some online subscription services that can take a "proper" PDF (NOT all are eh) and export to supported file formats.
Two are "ExportPDF" and "PDF Pack".
    Be well...

Hello! I used QuickTime for watch any videos on OS X Mountain Lion, but now, I'm passed to OS X Mavericks and QuickTime, when I open an .avi file, convert this in a .mov file. I'm sorry for my English, I'm French and I don't know speak English very well, but what can I do for QuickTime opens on .avi and doesn't convert to .mov?

    HI GalaxieMusique,
I'm french too, but I'm going to write this post in english so that everyone may understand it
I have the same problem in Mavericks, but I'd say, more important, with QuickLook.
Indeed Quicklook can't read avi movies anymore. Actually it always been the case, but with Perian we were able to fix it. The problem is that Perian is no longer available for Mac OS 10.9....
I'd assume that our only hope is Apple themselves... It would be nice from Apple to creat an add-on for quicklook to be able to preview the avi movies.
In regards with quicktime, you can download QuickTime 7 here:
    http://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Multimedia/lecteurs_video_dvd/fiches/10 0.html
and ask all the .avi movies to be played by QuickTime 7 and not QuickTime X (included into Mac OS).
Sorry for the english, we french people can make mistakes sometimes
If anyone has a solution for QuickLook, please do not hesitate. This topic is becoming a real mess....

  • Why will CS4 not open DNG files converted from Olympus E-M1 raw files?

For several years I have been able to use the DNG Converter to convert .ORF raw files from my Olympus E-M1 and then open them for processing in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
I have not changed any preferences. I'm using E-M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I have deleted DNG converter several times, even reinstalled an earlier version but nothing changes.
However, CS4 will open DNG files converted from Pentax raw .PEF files from my K-5. Weird. It's the Olympus raw DNG conversions that won't open.
I can view the DNG converted files in question in Mac's Preview just fine but not CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Be sure the DNG Converter's compatibility is set to provide support for your version of ACR:

  • Need a safe free file converter

Adobe supprt has told me that my Adobe slideshow that was completed on a XP windows computer and saved as a dvd is not compatile with my new Window 7 computer. It is a .dat file. They told me to get a free file converter on the internet but did not mention which one was safe or what file extention I should get.
I would appreciate some help in this matter as I worked for about a year to finish a slideshow of family outings so I could make copies for my 4 children.

    Hi Bernice,
I deleted my first choice because I can no longer find the site for downloading the version I have.  I've never used the "Any Video Converter", so I can't comment on it.
You can try asking this question in the Premiere Elements forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements
Premiere Elements is the video editing program, and the users in that forum will probably have more experience with converting videos.

  • Best file converter for .mpg to .mov

I am trying to import movies in .mpg format to iMovie 11 which requires a .mov format.  I want a free file converter that won't sacrifice the video quality.

If your movies are MPEG1, then MPEG Streamclip will convert them for free.
If your movies are MPEG2, you may also need the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component, which is $20 from Apple. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this.
Drag the MPG file into MPEG Streamclip. Click the play button to ensure that it plays and all is well. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and choose a codec for your needs. I recommend Apple Intermediate Codec.
    Detailed Instructions....
Get MPEG Streamclip, which is free.
You may also need the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component for $20.
Follow the instructions on the MPEG Streamclip website for installing the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. Here are those instructions for Mountain Lion and Lion as of 2012-11-05...
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion and Mountain Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion and Mountain Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion or Mountain Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 betaabove; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion or Mountain Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion and Mountain Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion and Mountain Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
If your security settings will not let you run UTILITY MPEG2 COMPONENT M.LION, then you can override the security by
    1.  Hold down "control" button
    2.  Click on the app that is triggering the message about the security preferences
    3.  Select "open" to override and install/open the application
For more on the security settings see this document.

  • Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter not recognizable

Since  installing Maverick 10.9.4 on the Mac, Sony RX100 raw files converted with DNG converter are no more recognizable.
    Somebody else the same problem?

I know my DNG files themselves and the info they contain are fine. But they're not properly supported in Mavericks 10.9.4 and I don't plan on switching to Windows. A file that I converted to a DNG using Adobe software is now listed as an unrecognized file in OSX. No thumbnails, no iPhoto, no Aperture. Essentially, no support. And this is a problem. A quick search will show you people with various Sony cameras (A7, RX100 mkI and mkIII, at least) having the same problem.
No matter where the blame falls, the simple fact is that if you shoot with various Sony cameras, use Adobe software to convert the file to DNG and happen to be an OSX user, you're files are no longer compatible with OSX or Apple's photo software. They will only open in Adobe software. You literally get a warning message from OSX saying, this is an unsupported file type when you try and open it.
Like I said previously, I've had a managed iPhoto library for about 5 years now, numerous hours of tagging and organzing, and every DNG file converted from a Sony ARW RAW is currently unsupported. Original ARW files work just fine. It's nuts. Maybe it's Adobe's fault. Maybe it's Apple's fault. It really doesn't matter. If DNG is not a reliable standard format under certain edge cases (Sony ARW, DNG converter, OSX Mavericks), it's not a reliable standard format at all. I just hope that Apple or Adobe figures this out, so that I can get those photos back.
In the mean time, certain users such as myself just can't rely on DNG. End of story.

  • Where can I download raw file converter for panasonic gh4

Is aperture raw file converter compatible with Panasonic GH4

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH4?  That camera is not yet supported, see the list of currently available RAW support:  http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
It usually takes a few month after the release of a new camera for the RAW support to be available. As a work-around, use the software that comes with the camera (probably SILKYPIX Developer Studio), to convert your RAW to a different lossless format (e.g. TIFF), while you are waiting.
