Delay in Share access locally on windows 2008 r2

HI All,
Have been facing with an issue in which shares hosted on one of my server sometimes take a long time to open in explorer even if tried by IP/hostname/Fqdn..sometimes the lag is for more than 40sec ..It happens rarely once or twice in a month but causes issues
with our processes..During the issue the delay in share access occurs from diff servers including locally on the server..tried from win xp/win7/windows 2003/windows 2012.
Some options were opted like disabling RSS,checksum,TCP/Ip offload ,firewall disabled,SMB patch
but in vain.
Has anyone encountered such issues. Please let me know if anyone has any fix for the issue.

OS:windwos 2012 r2 SP1 ent

Hi,
Since the issue also occurred locally, you could try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check the hard drive containing the folder that is causing the slow downs.
2. Check the folder optimization preference to see if the automatic optimization got it right.
3. Disable indexing temporarily to see if it resolves the slow folder issues.
For more detailed information, please refer to the article below. The article applys to Windows 7, but you can also try the troublshoot steps on Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Java gets error pki-02002 accessing wallet on windows 2008 with Oracle 12 only

I have a windows 2008 server with Oracle 12 client installed and I can't figure out what is preventing me from running java commands that use the wallet.  The wallet itself seems to be fine as I can log in with SQLPLUS using the wallet, it is only when I try to run a java command that it fails with a PKI-02002 error.
Also - I can run the same command line without error with oracle 11 installed, so it seems to be something that differs between oracle 11 and 12.   Any ideas of what I should look for?  I've checked permissions on
    Here is the error:

  • Mac OS X help with share access on a windows 2003 server

    Hello everyone
I am not too familiar with Mac OS X (Darwin) and so on and need a little help.
We recently got a new windows 2003 standard server and I want to move my files to there so they get backed up and so on. I am able to access shares on the pc's on our network but when I try to access the server from finder i just get a box pop up saysing do you want to fix or delete the alias.
When I try to access it via a terminal, because I am a bit more ok with the cmd line thanks to my linux capabilities, I get the following error:
mount_smbfs: tree connect phase failed: syserr = Permission denied
    when i try:
    mount_smbfs //dan:[email protected]/General\ Files /BB-SERVER/General\ Files
Is there anybody that has experienced this before and that can help me resolve this.
    Thank you in advance
    Kobus

    Hi Kobus Bensch,
I'm sorry I am not able to help with your questions about sharing from your Mac to the server but wanted to suggest that you post back the exact Mac OS version you are using. Your specs below your post suggest 10.0.x which was barely a beta version of Mac OS X. This will surely help those who are seeing your topic and trying to help.
To find the version you can simply click on the blue Apple in your top menu bar and select About This Mac.
    good luck,

  • Accessing client using Windows 2008 Terminal Service - Web Access?

    Dear experts,
We are developing a network infrastructure solution for our new customer's B1 8.8 implementation.
Our customer would like to utilize Windows Server 2008 Terminal Service to connect B1 client in remote branch with server in head office area. And they want to use Terminal Service - WEB ACCESS. Base on our experience, we successfully implement B1 using Remote Desktop Connection or Citrix to support B1 client in the remote area.
My question is, Has SAP already support to utilize windows "Terminal Service - Web Access" to access B1 client?
If Yes then what are possible issues and solutions?
    Thanks,
    Indra

    Hi,
when we said to customer that it is better to use citrix, they will see some concerns as follows:
    1. Investment to buy citrix server
    2. License of citrix
    3. installation time for ICA client
    4. maintenance cost for citrix and its server
    The benefits are as follows:
    1. Reduce cost to purchase B1 license. Remote and LAN users can access B1 through citrix
    2. The connection speed. Citrix is more faster than RDC or terminal services either web access or not
    3. The security reason. Check this link:
    http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/terminal-services/management-tools/terminal-services-internet-information-server.html
In the support platform, there is no windows terminal services web access info. You may check it here:
    http://service.sap.com/smb/sbo/platforms
The supported hosted environments are using citrix or windows terminal service. For remote users, the citrix is used for web access and windows terminal services are using IP and the connection is using internet (do not use VPN).
The citrix is not very expensive. We must make them realize the benefit.
(in english : we must convince the customer about the citrixs benefit. it is not too expensive. The citrix could be buy from small reseller company so that its price is acceptable. SAP AG suggested to use citrix because it is very best web access).

  • Access Denied In windows 2008 Server R2

    Hi team,
I ma trying to implemet a Lab setup to impelment 2008 AD/DNS/DHCP and work on SCCM 2007 deployment concepts. We have two 2008 R2 server adn one Win 7 mahcine all in Workgroup environment.
I tried to Promote one of the Server to DC. As the initial steps, i loaded the AD DS binary files in the mahcine and renmed the machine name to something accrording to DC standards. I did all this logged in with the defauld Administrator acct.
We rebooted the machine and i cant login with the dafualt Administrator acct anymore. I am gettin Access Denied.
I connected to the computer mgmt snapin remotely created a new user, added to administrators group,Remote desktop users group and can login with the newly created account. but not the Deafult Administrator acct. Have anyone come across similar issues. Please
letme know what could be the issue, since i have never faced this issue before :-( :-(
    AppGN

    Hiya,
    It sounds like the following:
1: When you started working with your server you were using your local Administrator account, doing everything on the server.
2: When you promoted it to a DC, it no longer has a local Administrator account, but only a Domain Administrator account. You need to login using <Domain>\Administrator and not <ServerName>\Administrator. When you try to logon, it will have the
previously used local administrator account as the account.
3: When you remote connected you just wrote Administrator, which resolved to the domain administrator account, hence you were able to login and create the new account.
That would be my guess :)

  • Remote Access to Windows 2008 R2 Server configured with local IP

    Hello,
    I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server configured with local IP (e.g. 192.168.1.115).
Please how can I access it remotely outside its local domain through (remote desktop connection).
    Thank you.
    Tony.

    Hi Tony,
Based on your description, you would like to connect to the Windows 2008 R2 server via remote desktop connection.
So you need to enable remote desktop on the Windows 2008 R2 server if it is not already.
1.Install and configure the Remote Desktop Session Host role service in the Windows 2008 R2 server.
2.Add related user to the Remote Desktop Users group in the Windows 2008 R2 server.
3.Configure remote desktop connection in the Client.
Also, due to you would like to access it remotely outside the domain, so you will need a VPN connection or a port forward to connect through.
For more details, please refer to the guide below,

  • Cannot access local DFS shares while VPN is active

    Hi
We use Windows Server 2008 Standard as a domain controller. It also hosts DFS. Although the namespaces are hosted on the server, the data is stored on a Windows 2008 Storage Server. We do not use DFS replication.
I have several DFS shares mapped on my Windows 7 client, which has just replaced my XP client, and can access them without any problems.
However, as soon as I connect to a remote network (located on a different domain - it has nothing to do with our network at all), I am unable to access our DFS shares. If I try to access a DFS share an error message pops up stating:
    Location is not available
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
The first time I connected the VPN a network dialog popped up asking what type of network it was and I chose Work. After connecting via the VPN I use remote desktop to carry out daily maintenance on a server on the remote network.
Other local resources are available. I can ping machines via IP, name and FQDN. I can access the same DFS shares using UNC paths. So, although I receive the error message described above when accessing AD-name.local-backslash-share-name1 I have no trouble
    accessing server-name-backslash-share-name1
As soon as I close the VPN connection normal functionality is restored and I can again access the DFS shares without any problems.
Can someone help me fix this, please? When this was setup on my XP machine I never experienced this problem.
Also, is there a way of typing LAN addresses without the forum software converting them to a customised hyperlink? Thanks!

    Thank you, fupin
Sabrina's suggestion to edit the pbk file worked. I changed the setting from 1 to 0 and connected to the remote network via the VPN and am still able to access the local DFS shares.
As per the OPs comments, the username and password I am using for the remote network are both different from the credentials I am using on the local network.
... take the steps in the KB 822707 to resolve it:
1). Locate the .pbk file that contains the entry that you dial. To do so, click Start, click Search, type *.pbk in the All or part of the file name box, and then
    click Search.
2). Open the file in Notepad.
3). Locate the following entry: UseRasCredentials=1
4). Modify the entry to the following: UseRasCredentials=0
5). On the File menu, click Save, and the click Exit.
    Cheers!

I suspected some issue with AV so uninstalled.
To resolve the Access Denied I followed these steps:
    stop w32time
    w32tm /unregister
    reboot
    regsvr32 /u w32time.dll
    w32tm /register
sc query w32time -- you should see that the service is set to
shared mode -- this is presumably how it should be -- if you try to start right now, you'll get the expected 1290 SID-related error
    reboot
w32time should now automatically start at boot up and be running -- that was my result -- it's running as shared, started on its own, and I can do the w32tm /query commands successfully
After rebooting the time service started.
    I then repeated the steps:
    net stop w32time
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, 2.pool.ntp.org"
    w32tm /config /reliable:yes
    net start w32time
    w32tm /query /configuration
And all worked. I'll wait a short while to see if this fixes the issue. I also have am SA case with MS so will confirm fix when resolved.

  • Sapjup cannot find correct shares on Windows 2008 R2 cluster

    Hello Guru's,
I have succesfully installed CRM 5 Abap+Java on Windows 2008 R2 based hardware. This is a HA setup.
I am now in the process of upgrading to CRM 7.01. Unfortunately, the java upgrade program SAPjup runs into an error (share
Host_A\sapmnt does not exist)  I cannot solve up to now.
    This is my setup:
I have two application servers: Host_A and Host_B. Both servers form a Microsoft Failover Cluster. The shared disk for the abap and java central services is the F:\ drive, the cluster name is Cluster_X.
The Central Instance is installed on the local disk G:\ of Host_A; The Dialog instance on local disk G:\ of Host_B.
As instructed in the manual, I have moved the SAP cluster to Host_A and started the the upgrade process on G:\ drive of the same host.
During the phase PREPARE/INIT/INPUT_SAPSERVICESID_PWD_HA, the SAPjup program is trying to map the
Host_A\sapmnt share to a drive letter ('net use' command). This step results in an error.
I can explain this error since the proper share in my opinion should be
    Cluster_X\sapmnt instead of
    Host_A\sapmnt.
In Windows 2003 this was not a problem, because
    Cluster_X\sapmnt and
Host_A\sapmnt can both be accessed and refers to the same disk location when the cluster group is active on Host_A. However, in Windows 2008 R2 this is not the case anymore and
Host_A\sapmnt is not a valid share.
Has any one of you run into this same problem or have suggestions how to solve?
    Rob Veenman
    SAP Technology.

I owe you an answer for the issue we had.
I opened a message with SAP, and got acklowledge that this is indeed a bug in SAPJup. SAP is working on a solution.
The work around (which was succesful) was as follows:
    1. I moved the SAP Cluster group to Host_B (the DI host).
    2. I created g:\sapmnt on Host_A and copied content from the shared drive
    Cluster_X\sapmnt
    to this local drive.
    3. I shared diretory g:\sapmnt with share name sapmnt on Host_A and gave
    SAP_<SID>_GlobalAdmin Read/write access.
Now SAPJup can continue. At the next interrup, you can remove the local directory g:\sapmnt and move the cluster disk back to Host_A.
I will give an update and close this thread as soon as I get a definitive solution from SAP AG for this issue.

  • Access Denied when accessing ipc$ but not admin$ of a Windows 2008 R2 Standard server

    From a Windows 2008 R2 Server,
    c:\> net use * \\<winserver2008>\ipc$
    System error 66 has occurred.
The network resource type is not correct.
    c:\> net use * \\<winserver2008>\admin$
Drive Z: is now connected to \\<winserver2008\admin$.
However, running the above commands from a Windows 2003 Server, I have no problem at all.
    Does anyone has any idea?

    Hello nww,
The problem is caused by UAC and the elevated privileges required to access the administrative shares. This
Microsoft KB article (951016) describes the issue in Windows Vista
To better protect those users who are members of the local Administrators group, we implement UAC restrictions on the network. This mechanism helps prevent against "loopback" attacks. This mechanism also helps prevent local malicious software
from running remotely with administrative rights.
and the steps to resolve it, open a new PowerShell window as administrator:
New-ItemProperty HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System -name "LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy" -value "1" -propertyType dword
A word of caution: this is opening up a security hole and it should only be done with careful consideration of the risks. The need to use PSExec to remotely run a process was an important part of the deployment, however the same result
could be achieved using PowerShell remoting. Until it’s tested and we’re ready to deploy that, I’ll be using this method.

  • Auditing file share on windows 2008 R2

I think I may need a little handholding here. I have been working with our new Windows 2008 R2 file server. I am having a problem doing some simple file level auditing.
I turned on Audit Object Access in the local policy. The GPO that applies to this server does not have it set and I only really need it enabled on this server. I have it auditing success and Failure.
After I did that I got deluged with Event ID: 5145. I went to each folder and made sure that I had auditing turned off for each folder and file. I did that to see if it would quite down the logs a little. It did not. I am currently getting about 1500 events of 5145 every second. They all say “ A network share object was checked to see whether client can be granted desired access”

  • Long delay for authentication dialog 10.6.x to Windows 2008 SBS

I am encountering a very long delay (30-45 seconds) for the authentication dialog when connecting from Mac OS X 10.6.2 clients to a Windows 2008 Small Business Server.
We are connecting using the "Connect to Server" dialog, using smb://<server host name> and smb://<server IP address> as the URIs. Once the authentication dialog eventually comes up the users can log in successfully and access the shares on the server normally and at normal speed.
I see this entry show up in the system.log when a smb connection is started:
/System/Library/CoreServices/NetAuthAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/NetAuthAgent ### * process ### exceeded 500 log message per second limit - remaining messages this second discarded *
I would like to see the NetAuthAgent log that is referred to in the error but I haven't been able to determine where this log resides or it I need to set NetAuthAgent or the smb client into a debug mode to capture logging.
I have tried many of the usual fixes on the server side when it comes to Mac compatibility including:
    •Disabled SMB signing
•Setting these registry values to 0:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanserver\Parameters\Enablesecurity signature
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanserver\Parameters\Requiresecurit ysignature
This was asked last October with no resolution:

If anyone has encountered this issue and discovered a solution please help. Thanks in advance!

I'm having an issue with 10.6.x lately and Windows 2003.
Random disconnects and the same log errors about the message limit.

  • Error 406 access denied while trying to Add Windows 2008 HV host in SCVMM 2008.

I am trying to add Windows 2008 HV host in SCVMM 2008. While adding host i am getting error message...
    Error (406)
    Access
has been denied while contacting the server <server name>.
    Recommended
    Action
    1.
Verify that the specified user account has administrative privileges on <server name>.
    2.
Verify that DCOM access, launch, and activation permissions are enabled on <server name> for the Administrators group. Use dcomcnfg.exe to modify
permissions, and then try the operation again.
I have already done DCOM security modification for my user. I am able to RDP or any file sharing HV host from SCVMM machine. My user is member of local administrator for both the machines.
Before that i have added one Windows 2008 HV (Core) successfully and 2 ESX host in same SCVMM machine.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone found a fix for this? I've been troubleshooting this issue for 4 days now. I've unjoined/rejoined the host to the domain, deleted SCVMM certificate, given permissions (out the wahzoo) in COM/Access Permissions, all updates installed, firewall
is off (I even tried turning it on and configuring program/port access), I've tried with 3 different domain accounts that are a member of the local Administrators group.
The other day I managed to get the host added (don't ask me how) but then all the VM's were in status 'Host not responding' so I couldn't even manage them. So I removed it and now can't get the host added again. I'm using SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 and the problem
    host is Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64.
    Error (406)
Access has been denied while contacting the server xxxxxxxx.domain.com.
    Recommended Action
    1. Verify that the specified user account has administrative privileges on xxxxxxx.domain.com.
    2. Verify that DCOM access, launch, and activation permissions are enabled on xxxxxxx.domain.com for the Administrators group. Use dcomcnfg.exe to modify permissions, and then try the operation again.
I was getting this error after I got the host added:
    Error (2910)
VMM does not have appropriate permissions to access the resource C:\Windows\system32\qmgr.dll on the xxxxxxxx.domain.com server.
     (Access is denied (0x80070005))
    Recommended Action
Ensure that Virtual Machine Manager has the appropriate rights to perform this action.

  • Windows 2008 Server crashed - How to find location of remote shared files that they used to access on remote web app?

We have a client that was running windows 2008 server.  A previous IT person had setup their system, so we were walking into a situation where there were many unknowns.  Server was mainly handling emails only, and we were able to get their exchange
database off and export PSTs to hosted exchange via microsoft.
Everything went fine with that, however one user said that he used to access files on the server via the remote web app as he described.  He would go to the following url:
    https://mail.theirdomain.com/remote/menu.aspx#
and he would use his login and then he would see several links to folders.  He could then click on those and see his desired files.
We were able to get the server booted again, however we could not find any of the files he described on it at all, leaving me to suspect that perhaps this remote link was accessing another PC.
We have the old server up and running, however the link above is no longer active because we have pointed the domain to the new hosted exchange server.  As I am still learning and my boss wanted me to research this on my own and figure out how to find
out where these files are located.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Just as a note I did try access mail.localhost.com/remote/menu.aspx# on the server but this did not work.  Is there any way in the IIS 7 management console to figure out where this was pointing to?

I figured it out - The server was using sharepoint to host these files.  I browsed localhost:987 and opened the sharepoint site locally on the server.  They had several documents to be exported, however when clicking on Open in Explorer it was
giving an error that local client was not configured.  I installed Desktop Experience and after that was able to open it in Windows Explorer and copy all files off.

  • FIrewall for Windows File Share for windows 2008

    Hi All,
Recently we upgraded one of our application file server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008. We use this server for file sharing. We used to read files and write files to this server. Post upgrade one week every thing went fine all of a sudden we started seeing
issues like the application servers stopped communicated to this server.
We worked with our firewall team and enabled port 445 post this the application servers started communicating to the file server. Our Application servers are on Windows 2003 server.
Can someone please help me understand what is the port that needs to be enabled for accessing the file shares. My firewall team confirmed there were no firewalls rules between the Application server and File server.

    Hi,
Based on my research, firewall ports required for SMB file sharing are port 445 and 139.
    More information for you:
SMB: File and printer sharing ports should be open
