Delayed start, shutdown procedure

I have recently found that my lovely satellite pro has developed a resistance to being shutdwn or restarted. Going through the usual procedure is very slow. Start to shutdown is ok, but to get to the final options (box with restart, shutdown, is slow). No info on Google.
Explorer is as fast as ever. Have defragged, cleaned, checked for viruses, checked with systemworks and all is ok.
Running windows 2000 and am on network with XP computer.
The only other problem, since attaching to network, is a tendency to lose printer settings (exclamation marks against printer, references to not being installed, though it works. Printer is local and not on network).
Any ideas would be most welcome. It's all a bit scary, since it had a check up with Toshiba only a few weeks ago. Fault with shutdown developed after that. They recommend a complete reinstall, of course.

like the toshiba guys, I suggest you a reinstall, too. After a while an operating system becomes slower and slower due to misconfigured setting (does not matter which settings), and the
registry becomes more and more full and causes the system to make really weird things.
So, it would be good to backup you important data and reinstall windows with the recovery cd. After that you should have a clean and sober (from 3rd party software) system.
Would appreciate some feedback if you perform that reinstall.

Zen (Agent) service delayed start

Hi!
ZCM 10.3.3 on SLES 11 SP1, Windows XP and 7 ws's. One problem or thing I noticed long time. When device is restarted then even ZCC show ws in green and agent service is started on on ws it seems to that Agent Service start is not in effect ... delayed for minutes. I mean, when I have set something for setup on device boot then it takes some 10 minutes or so (depends on ws, but even fast one has delay) to start this installation (device is refreshed and app is cached). Also, most worrying for me is that on computer labs we use for students dynamic volatile profiles and we rely fully on Novell Application Launcher (from ZfD days) to get apps and when device is just (re)started student can login, but NAL window does not appear - empty Desktop. Something I can do about this delayed start or it is by design so.
Sorry, can't explain it more in details as every service on ws and server is ok as service. Just seems to on ws it does not take effect right away after ws is (re)started. Hope You understand what I mean.

Usually it (delayed service "wakeup") is not a problem as I start all ws's on site on workdays at morning and shut them down at evening. But, when on some reason user does restart ws (even shutdown/restart is removed as option for user, but ... sometimes hardware let You down etc.) or ws's is needed at weekends (also in computer rooms) then ... I'm little bit in trouble!

Purpose
가장 기본적인 Oracle의 startup/shutdown 각 mode와 그 특징에 대해 알아보자.
Explanation
ORACLE을 사용하려면 먼저 데이타베이스를 기동하여야 한다.
ORACLE의 기동은 startup, 기동 중인 ORACLE을 사용하지 못하도록
운영을 중지하도록 하는 것은 shutdown command를 이용해 이루어진다.
여기에서는 startup, shutdown 시의 procedure와 startup, shutdown의
종류에 대해 설명한다.
1. STARTUP PROCEDURE
stratup은 3단계의 procedure로 구성된다.
1) 인스턴스 start
ORACLE을 운영하기 위한 background process(dbwr, lgwr, smon, pmon 등)를
생성하며 또한 init<SID>.ora의 parameter 값들을 읽어 SGA도 allocate한다.
startup 시 이 procedure까지 수행하기 위하여는 sqldba(v7.2까지) 또는
svrmgrl(v7.3 이상)에서 startup nomount를 하면 된다.
2) mount the database
인스턴스 start 후 데이타베이스를 mount하는 단계로 mount에서는 control
file을 open한다. 이 단계까지만 start하는 경우에는 특별한 데이타베이스
유지 보수 작업이 필요시 수행한다. 특별한 데이타베이스 유지 보수 작업이란
redo log의 add, rename, media recovery의 수행 등의 작업을 의미한다.
startup 시 mount 단계까지 수행하려면 startup mount를 수행하면 된다.
1)에서 인스턴스를 start한 후 mount 단계로 넘어가려면 alter database
mount를 수행하면 된다.
3) open the database
데이타베이스의 open은 mount 후 데이타베이스를 사용할 수 있는 환경으로
만들어 주는 단계로서 모든 online datafile과 online redo log file을 open하고
사용할 수 있도록 하여 준다. 데이타베이스가 중지된 상태에서 한번에 open까지
모두 수행하기 위해서는 startup만 하면 된다. 2)에서처럼 데이타베이스를 mount
후 open 시에는 alter database open을 수행하면 된다. (단, 인스턴스 start에서
바로 database open을 수행할 수 없다.)
2. STARTUP의 종류
startup은 sqldba(v7.2까지) 또는 svrmgrl(v7.3 이상)에서 수행한다.
1) startup
이는 일반적인 ORACLE 기동 방법으로 startup이 완료되면 모든 user가
데이타베이스를 access할 수 있다.
2) startup restrict
일반 user의 ORACLE 사용을 제한하기 위하여 startup하는 방법으로
ORACLE user중 create session+restricted session이라는 system privilege를
갖고 있는 user만이 데이타베이스를 사용 할 수 있다. 이는 데이타베이스 구조를
조정하거나 data의 export, import시 등 일반 user의 사용을 제한하는 경우에
사용한다.
3) startup force
shutdown normal 또는 shutdown immediate시 정상적으로 종료되지 않는 경우
데이타베이스의 인스턴스를 강제로 kill시키고 startup하도록 한다.
4) startup parallel
OPS 환경으로 데이타베이스를 운영하는 경우 하나의 데이타베이스를 여러 개의
node에서 공유한다. 이때 여러 인스턴스에서 데이타베이스를 공유하기 위해서는
startup parallel로 기동 하여야 한다. 1)의 startup은 exclusive mode로서
OPS로 데이타베이스 환경이 되어 있더라도 startup만 하면 여러개의 인스턴스가
하나의 데이타베이스를 공유할 수 없다. 이는 데이타베이스가 exclusive mode로
기동되었기 때문이다. OPS에서 데이타베이스를 공유하기 위해서는 반드시
startup parallel로 기동하여야 한다.
3. SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE
shutdown은 데이타베이스의 운영을 중단하기 위해 수행하는 것으로 startup
procedure와는 반대로 작동한다. 즉 먼저 데이타베이스를 close하고 두번째
데이타베이스를 dismount하며 마지막으로 인스턴스를 shutdown 한다.
4. SHUTDOWN의 종류
shutdown도 startup처럼 sqldba(v7.2까지), svrmgrl(v7.3 이상)에서 수행한다.
1)shutdown
이는 일반적인 shutdown 방법으로 shutdown이 진행 중에는 새로운 user가
데이타베이스에 세션을 맺을 수 없으며 또한 기존에 connect되어 있는 user가
있는지 확인하여 connect된 user가 없다면 데이타베이스를 shutdown하고 user가
있다면 connect된 user가 disconnect될 때까지 shutdown을 하지 않고 기다린다.
2) shutdown immediate
현재 데이타베이스를 사용 중인 user가 있지만 데이타베이스를 shutdown해야
하는 경우 shutdown immedaite를 수행한다. shutdown immediate를 수행하면
현재 진행 중인 SQL이 중단되고 commit되지 않은 transaction을 rollback하고
connect되어 있던 user를 강제로 disconnect시키고 shutdown을 수행하게 된다.
단, 다량의 data를 update하는 작업을 수행 중 shutdown immediate를 수행하면
곧바로 database가 shutdown되지 않는다.
이는 rollback하는 데 많은 시간을 소비하기 때문이다.
3) shutdown abort
connect된 user가 long transaction을 수행하고 있지만 급하게 데이타베이스를
shutdown 하여야 하는 경우 shutdown abort를 하게 된다. shutdown abort를
수행하면 ORACLE 인스턴스를 바로 shutdown하므로 shutdown immediate와는 달리
commit되지 않은 transaction들을 rollback하지 않고 데이타베이스를 shutdown
한다. 그러므로, long transaction이 있더라도 빨리 shutdown 할 수 있다.
단, shutdown abort는 rollback하지 않고 shutdown하므로 데이타베이스에
이상 현상을 초래할 가능성을 가지고 있다.

Is it possible, delaying start time for Nokia 925 Aps? For. egzample, Night watsch (uses a lot of batteries).

hi mate, sorry to hear about your experience. in this case, the fault may lie with the Nokia Care point's handling of your device. in this case you will need to persist with them until they either fix it or issue you with a replacement. else if they are not being conducive to the matter, then you will need to take up the issue with head office of Nokia in your region.

I see you start this service at sequence "99". This is good, but there are other 99-level startup scripts as well. These are processed in alphabetical order. Do this:
$ ls /etc/rd5d.d/S99*
So, "dbora" will run even before rc.local and that may not be a good thing.
Also, checking:
$ ls /etc/rc5.d/K* | head -n15
will show you the order in which services are shut down, again in alphabetical order.
These steps may help:
# /sbin/chkconfig dbora off
# /sbin/service dbora stop
# cd /etc/init.d/
# /sbin/chkconfig --del dbora
# mv dbora xxx-dbora
# vi xxx-dbora
# /sbin/chkconfig --add xxx-dbora
# /sbin/chkconfig xxx-dbora on
# /sbin/service xxx-dbora start
What we are doing is:
1) Remove existing dbora service
2) Rename the service to something that shows last in an ls(1) command
3) Edit the xxx-dbora script to change the chkconfig info from "99 10" to "99 01"
4) Installed the service.
Now, the start-up is done as the very last action and shutdown as the very first.
Does this make any difference?

Delay start of a quicktime

Is there anyway to delay quicktime starting on a web page, like with an embed parameter? Controls like "volume", "loop", etc are so easy to work with, is there one for delay starting?

I still want it to run automatically but be able to adjust the start time. Can anyone explain how to use "starttime", here is the explanation, but I don't understand:
STARTTIME=time (optional...requires QuickTime 4)
The STARTTIME attribute defines the first frame of the movie. STARTTIME can be any time within the length of the movie. By default, STARTTIME is the first frame of the movie (or 00:00:00). This attribute takes a time value in the form Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Frames (30ths). The frames component can be specified as a fixed point number so that more specific times can be specified for instance 3:30:22.5 means 3 minutes, 30 seconds and 22.5 frames.

MacosX does not run the shutdown scripts so the database is terminated by a normal kill.

CmRcService Delayed Start (Remote Control Service)

Anyone know why Microsoft set the CmRcService service for a delayed start and not automatic? After a reboot of the remote computer, it is taking a few moments to connect. I am assuming that was done for a reason. Before I change the service on all of our
computers; does anyone know why they did that?

It's not just the Remote Control Service. CcmExec.exe (SMS Host Agent) is the same. They are simply not critical and IMO they start up quickly enough.

Oracle XE Listener Requiring Service To Be Set To 'Automatic (Delayed Start

Can anyone offer any insight/explanation as to why the Oracle Listener would require the service to be set to 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' When it is set to just automatic, it does not even try to start. No output to the listener log, and nothing to the event viewer. It is as if it never even tries to start. Once switched to 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' it works as expected. Additionally if you manually start the service due to it not starting automatically, it works fine as well.
OS: Windows 7 64BIT
Service is being run by the local system account and is set to allow to interact with desktop. -Local system account is part of the administrator group.

OS: Windows 7 64BITFirst point, win7 isn't on the 10g XE "supported OS" list. The installer is nearly as old as Firefox 1.0. Not to say folks haven't been able to get it working, plenty of other threads cover that topic.
Delayed start, auto start ... how critical is that functionality for your install? My suggestion, set it to Manual, and if you need the database, start the listener and then start the database service. If the database isn't needed keep your RAM and system resources available for other stuff.
Sorry can't be more helpful (esp. for win7, don't have it, don't use it, same for vista) but XE is more of a "playground" environment for test drives, kicking the tires, etc., a practice resource intended as an introduction to managing an oracle instance.
And always start the listener service first, that allows the database to register with the listener as it completes its startup processing. If startup goes the other way around, the Apex might not be immediately available, but a sqlplus system connection and `alter system register;` command will fix that.

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Delayed start of netweaver system

Since yesterday our SapNetweaver based Enterprise Portal has a huge delayed start. Normally it takes about 10min until the system is up & running.
Now it takes about 2 hours.
System: NetWeaver 7.30 SP8 on HPUX
In the Log dev_server0 are only garbage collection or some CMS entries between State changed from 2 (Starting framework) to 10 (Starting apps) and State changed from 10 (Starting apps) to 3 (Running).
No other log in /usr/sap/SID/InstanceNr/work directory is written while the systems starts (except for std_server0.out and available.log)
The default respectively the application log in /usr/sap/SID/Nr/j2ee/cluster/server0/log are not really helpful.
So has anyone a idea or a hint where i can find a useful entry in a log?

In most of the cases, the J2EE Engine spends most of the time in Starting Applications phase. IN order to diagnose the issue, you need to capture 4-5 thread dumps at an interval of 1 min each on all server nodes. Generally, most of the Application Threads are blocked by a thread. Once you find such thread, you need to diagnose in that direction. There can be long tunning DB calls which can block applications threads. You may refer below sap link for capturing and analysing thread dumps:

"SMS Agent Host" Automatic (Delayed Start)

Our support think it take longtime to reconnect with the "Remote Control Viewer" if you rebooted the "Windows Client"
The "SMS Agent Host" is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and I have seen both it is okey to change it to "automatic" and not. I found an post that it should be okey to set it to "automatic"? Is there any issue to do so?

The remote control agent is separate from the SMS Agent host and can be changed to Automatic, see this previous thread.

How to start approval procedure for a Document/Draft using DI API

Hi!
My code imports purchase orders from one non-B1 system to SAP B1 using DI API. The problem is that in B1 system there is an approval process configured and I need the newly created purchase order to enter this approval process.
Currently this is not done because approval procedure isn't triggered when creating documents using DI API.
I had an idea to create a draft of PO instead of the PO and then push this draft into approval process somehow. But I can't find a way how to tell DI API to start approval procedure for my draft/document.

Unfortunately there is no way to trigger the approval process for any object added through the DI API.
Your workaround of adding the documents as drafts is as close as you can really come but maybe you could extend it slightly - it will involve a UI API addon:
Make the addon mandatory, and add a UDF to the user table, for example "U_Approver" and a UDF to PO document, like "U_Approval"
- Set this U_Approval to yes when adding through DI and add as draft
- When user opens draft document in the application, check are they an approver (U_Approver = "Y")
- If they are not, and try to view/add a draft which is flagged as needing approval, block them from adding.
You could further expand your DI project to send a mail to the approver whenever a draft PO is added.

when person goin to add item master data ,so before adding, it shoud be approval by senior person.
I have a scenario where 2 level of approval stages to be configured. For Example : A is originator, B is first level authoriser and C is 2nd Level authoriser. Now, A originates document as it goes for approval to both B & C simultaneously. what I want is that A originates the document as it goes to B for approval. After B approves then only go to C for apporval otherwise not. Is it possible to map in system ?? Please guide...
