Delayed Wakeup

G4 14" iBook running OS 10.4.8
Out of the blue, seemingly, when I wake the iBook from sleep the screen is frozen for about 30 seconds. This happens all the time now. Neither movement on the track pad nor clicks of the space bar or any other key evoke any response, then suddenly the cursor responds.
Because I don’t know how to use a rifle, I have used the shotgun approach to solving this problem...and have been unsuccessful at doing so.
I have:
*Run Applejack.
*Started in Open Firmware and set-defaults, reset-nvram, and
reset-all.
*Reset the PMU.
*Wiped the HD clean and cloned the OS from my desktop G5 iMac using Disk
Utility’s Restore to the iBook.
*Set up a virgin User’s account and logged in using that account.
*Moved the ~/Library/Preferences folder to the desktop and logged out then
back in.
*Deleted the com.apple.LaunchService.plist
Despite all this, the problem persists so I guess I need to look higher up, as in /Library and SystemLibrary but I am REALLY NERVOUS messing with those file on my own.
Any of you Mac gurus have any suggestions on what my next step should be???
Anyone know how to use a rifle???
Many thanks,
Bob

Whoops. My mistake; you are correct.
I missed the shorthand in the two paths:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
versus
~/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
A <~> makes a BIG difference.
I have removed the correct .plist file and things are looking good. Methinks it's cured...but let me try it over the next 24 hours.
Will get back to the thread and mark it Solved so you get points for it.
Many thanks for your patience and help,
bob

  • Question about HP 2311xi - auto-switch source and delay wakeup from sleep

I recently purchased this monitor and noticed that when it wakes from sleep it will take about 5-10 seconds for it to wake whereas other monitors I've owned they have gone on immediately.  I was just wondering if this is how this monitor is or if I have an issue with it.
Secondly, how is the auto-switch source suppose to work?  I have my PC set to DVI and I have the default source set to my 360 through the HDMI connection.  I would assume that when the 360 goes on it would go to the default source and switch over to the hdmi connection.  However, my monitor does nothing.  What does the auto-switch source actually do or is mine just defective?
Thanks in advance for any help on this monitor.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Auto-switch source only works if there is no signal as it detects the port with a signal and auto switches to that port.  However, the monitor has no way of knowing exactly which port the user wants when two signals are present.
Default port setting is what the monitor will look for first when being turned on and doesn't necessarily give that port override capabilities.
Taking 5-10 seconds can be normal.  My third-party monitor at home generally takes about 5 seconds before displaying a signal, but this may have more to do with the HDMI connection (I haven't tested this with the VGA port).  I don't believe this is a cause for concern.
Let me know if I answered your questions.

  • WiFi icon delay after wakeup

    Hi community..
I got trouble with a few iPads (2nd Gen).. whenever they go to sleep.. and I wait some seconds (like 15 secs, sometimes less, sometimes more), the WiFi Icon has a significan delay to show up upon wakeup. This is a major annoyance to the Crestron App, which then goes back to the homescreen and demands a reconnect.
This behaviour is, however, not consistent through the iPads we use (say 10).. some of them come back instantly with working WiFi.. means: only a fraction of a second..
In this environment, all of the tested iPads were connected to the same WLAN / AP and have static IPs.. needless to say, other devices have no problems with the WiFi..
    Anyone any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Thomas

If plugged in to power, wifi should not turn off.
On the devices that are too slow, try resetting your network settings.
The iPads are not going to be on charge all the time..
We resetted the network settings numerous times. as well as rebooting the devices (turn off and back on)..  no change at all..
Thanks for your suggestions, though.. any other ideas?
    Cheers,

  • Delay in sleep wakeup time

I just bought a new macbook about a week ago. I notice that when I put the computer to sleep, and then push a button to wake it up, it consistently takes 15 seconds to wake up! Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone think this is normal for the macbook? I am trying to decide what to do (try to get a replacement, etc) so any info would be helpful. Thanks all!

I have a MacPro with the same problem. My delay is about 18 seconds from the time I wake up the computer until I'm able to move the cursor with the mouse. This happens if I've put the computer to sleep by pressing the Eject, Command and Option keys.
If the computer has gone to sleep automatically because I've walked away from it, everything is ready to go immediately upon waking from sleep.
My computer didn't act like this when I first bought it. The problem seemed to begin after I installed a PCIe card from Mark of the Unicorn.

  • Zen (Agent) service delayed start

    Hi!
ZCM 10.3.3 on SLES 11 SP1, Windows XP and 7 ws's. One problem or thing I noticed long time. When device is restarted then even ZCC show ws in green and agent service is started on on ws it seems to that Agent Service start is not in effect ... delayed for minutes. I mean, when I have set something for setup on device boot then it takes some 10 minutes or so (depends on ws, but even fast one has delay) to start this installation (device is refreshed and app is cached). Also, most worrying for me is that on computer labs we use for students dynamic volatile profiles and we rely fully on Novell Application Launcher (from ZfD days) to get apps and when device is just (re)started student can login, but NAL window does not appear - empty Desktop. Something I can do about this delayed start or it is by design so.
Sorry, can't explain it more in details as every service on ws and server is ok as service. Just seems to on ws it does not take effect right away after ws is (re)started. Hope You understand what I mean.
    More thanks, Alar.

    Hi again!
Usually it (delayed service "wakeup") is not a problem as I start all ws's on site on workdays at morning and shut them down at evening. But, when on some reason user does restart ws (even shutdown/restart is removed as option for user, but ... sometimes hardware let You down etc.) or ws's is needed at weekends (also in computer rooms) then ... I'm little bit in trouble!
    Alar.

  • Slow Boot-Up/Delay Before Sleeping

Okay, so I've recently been experiencing some problems with my now 2.5 year-old MacBook Pro:
My first problem started several months ago when I was listening to iTunes and the program suddenly crashed (completely at random - this had never happened before), forcing me to shut down and re-start the computer. Since then, my MBP has taken a considerably longer amount of time to boot-up (Over a minute vs. twenty or so seconds before the incident). Additionally, after the incident I began experiencing problems with Safari, which began crashing on a consistent basis (usually after using the program for a few minutes). Fortunately, the issue with Safari was fixed with the upgrade to 4.0; the boot-up problem, however, remains.
Also, more recently I've noticed a significant delay between the time that I put my computer to sleep and the time it actually goes to sleep (about ten seconds). This happens regardless of whether I put it to sleep by closing the computer or selecting "sleep" using OS X. The compute also refuses to go to sleep according to my energy-save functions.
While neither of these problems seem particularly serious, they have become quite irksome since I shut down the computer often between classes and like to use the sleep function when I am in class but not using the computer for the moment... The computer runs perfectly fine otherwise.
Yesterday, I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard hoping that, in addition to getting some really great new features, these problems might be resolved. Unfortunately, even after starting completely anew (I erased my hard drive using Disk Utility before performing the update), these two problems persist.
Does anyone have any ideas of why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? I've looked at some common resolutions for slow-booting (free up disk space, don't have a lot of things on the desktop) and nothing's worked so far...
    Thanks

Here's what my log is showing between activating the Sleep command and waking up the computer:

  • Noticeable delay in waking up

Just recently my iMac has started experiencing a noticeable delay in waking up from sleep. It is set to have a password to allow access and normally, a nudge of the mouse and up pops the password entry panel.  Now the screen stays black for 10-15 seconds which in the grand scheme of things is neither here nor there but still annoying.  Nothing changed to the best of my knowledge in the system.  Probably a corrupt preference file maybe but if so, which one?
    Snow leopard 10.6.8
    TIA

Sorry about that!  This is a dump from a little later. I have been trying to see if there are any differences in the log between the times it takes a while and the times it is instant but can't see anything obvious.

  • Bluetooth connection lost after wakeup ( CSR - bc4 )

    hi
after wakeup, my aluminium keyboard cannot connect anymore to my macbook pro. when i go to systempreferences/bluetooth i can see the bluetooth's host name is CSR - bc4 (???). when i turn bluetooth off and on again the hostname does set correctly to the name of my macbook-pro. after the restart of the bluetooth-service my keyboard works like a charm.
    any suggestions?
    greetings from switzerland

I am having the same problem.
If I use the new aluminium wireless keyboard (with my existing wireless mighty mouse) neither the mouse nor the keyboard reconnect to the computer on waking from sleep - it does announce that I have lost the bluetooth connection but tapping/clicking/waiting doesn't facilitate reconnection.
If I send the iMac to sleep again (using the power button - the only way I have to get any signal to my machine at this point - I haven't tried Morse Code yet) it does then recognise the peripherals on waking the second time.
I have also noticed that if I turn the mouse and keyboard off causing the "connection lost" warning and then put the machine to sleep, everything does reconnect on waking (switching them back on of course).
I have it set not to wake from sleep using bluetooth devices, so that I can tidy my mouse/keyboard away without disturbing the mac. Using my old white wireless keyboard (but the same Mighty Mouse) it works beautifully again as it always did in Tiger with only a minimal delay on waking from sleep before reconnecting automatically.
The aluminium keyboard is beautiful. But we need a fix - anyone? Is it a hardware problem? A set of dud keyboards? Has anyone found that a different aluminium wireless keyboard does work with the same setup? Or that their troublemaking keyboard does work on other machines?

  • USB enumeration takes up to 20 seconds after wakeup or bios boot on P67A-GD65

    Hi all,
Just bought my new rig. It is described in my signature. Unfortunately I found two issues with my current setup. The first issue is in a separate post.
I'm using a P67A-GD65 motherboard. My USB keyboard and mouse are immediately detected the first time I start up my computer (cold boot), but when I do a suspend (to S3) and resume it usually takes quite a while before the mouse and keyboard are enumerated again. I can see this as the mouse and keyboard light up when they are ready for use. It sometimes takes up to 20 seconds, but the delay differs everytime. Occacionally the mouse and keyboard are immediately lighting up after I press the resume button, which is the behaviour you expect. On my previous pc I never had issues with enumeration after a resume.
When I restart the PC, the bios usually gets stuck in Post code B4 (USB HOTPLUG) for quite a while as well. It is probably trying to enumerate the mouse and keyboard. This can also take up to 10 seconds. During a cold boot this does not happen and B4 is completed instantly.
This issue is quite annoying, as I have to wait for quite a while before I can use my keyboard and mouse after I wakeup the PC. It beats the principle of instant-on, and sometimes it is faster to cold-boot the thing.
    I tried both V1.7, V1.8 and V1.9B1 bioses.
When I disconnect one of the devices (only mouse, or only keyboard), the enumeration is usually quicker, but still takes up to 5 seconds.
Could this be a bug in the Sandybridge chipset (it is not stepping B3), or is it something in the BIOS? Are any others having this issue and found a solution?

I've red through the P67 errata about USB and all of them have the status "No Plan to Fix". As being quite familiar with the USB 2.0 specification (I've once written an USB driver for an embedded system myself) I do not see any issues mentioned that could be related to enumeration problems during cold boot or resume. This seriously doubts me that the B3 release will fix my issue.
I will also put this problem in MSI support, but knowing how they did reply in my other issue report about the mouse not working in my BIOS I'm not so sure if they will take it seriously....

  • Preview of loops has effect on it (digital delay)??

Previewing my drum loops (all music loops actually) ... I'm picking up digital delay. Where is it coming from?
When I drag the loop to the arrange window the effect is still there ... even though there is no effect assigned to that particular audio track.
I'm just getting up to speed on this Logic update. So I'm at a loss. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
    Ben

    Aha!!
This is only happening when I am using the beat mapping. I have a piece of audio I've 'beat-mapped'. Now I want to add a loop to it. But the loop previews, and the loops when I add them to the audio track, have some weird digital delay effect on them.
This isn't happening if I'm NOT doing a beat map. Everything is normal.

  • Huge delay in Printing Crystal Report Layout

    Good Day Experts,
I am experiencing big delays when printing a document that makes use of a Crystal Report Layout Design.
    For example,
The Sales Quote is set to automatically print when added by the user.
When clicking 'Add', SAP freezes up and only about 30 seconds later does the printer finally print the document.
During that time, the user cannot use SAP at all.
The layout does have a lot of fields and a few formulas here and there.
Logically, I am thinking that that is the reason for the delay, as SAP needs to calculate and populate those fields.
Is there any other way that I could speed up this process? Or if you know what might be causing this speed issue?
    Your assistance will be appreciated,
    Thanks
    Regards
    Dario

  • To delay a program submitted in background from another transaction.

    Hi All,
There are 2 programs 'A' and 'B' . During execution of 'A' , 'B'  is called and submitted in background using FM Job_open & Job_close and submit query.
My requirement is to Delay the Program 'B' by 2-3 mins without delaying Program 'A' .
I tried using FM JOB_OPEN export condition sdlstrttm   = w_starttm but was of no help.
I also tried using statement wait up to 120 seconds but this also makes wait to program 'A'.
    Please suggest solutions to this.

  • How can I eliminate delays in one NIC when there is traffic on second NIC

Using LabVIEW TCP/IP VIs, my LV application is  accessing a database though a LAN, and  through a second NIC, it is controlling an instrument.  The instrument is connected directly to the computer NIC with a cross-over cable.  I have made a permanent route for the IP address of the instrument in the IP route table.  The LAN and the instrument have different subnet numbers.  Using a packet sniffer, I don't see any traffic meant for the LAN going to the NIC connected to the instrument.  The OS of the computer is Windows XP and the NICs are PCI cards.
The message traffic to the instrument suffers from intermittent delays when there is traffic going to the LAN.
How can I eliminate the delays?  What could be the cause of the delays?  Thanks in advance for your recommendations and suggestions.

    Hi LabBard,
Could you tell us a little more about the device that you are connected to? What you could try is to have a VI accessing the LAN, and a separate VI communicating with the instrument, and see how things play out.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Time delay between 2 waveforms

    Hi,
Please bear with me while I explain what I’m trying to do :-)   Basically, in the attached LabView file (“flow vis + trigger-m.vi”), I am generating 2 signals: a sinusoidal waveform (used to drive an actuator) and a square waveform (used as a TTL signal to trigger image capture on a CCD camera). Currently when I run the program using LabView 7, both signals are started simultaneously. I would like to introduce a time delay that can be manually specified in the VI, such that when the program is started (i.e. at time t0), the sinusoidal waveform also starts (i.e. at time t0) before the square waveform (i.e. at time t0 + delay time). In a practical sense, this means allowing the actuator to run for several seconds before capturing any images.
It sounds like it should be quite straightforward to do, but I’m not so sure how to progress. I have begun to modify the original VI (“flow vis + trigger-m_2.vi”, as attached), but would be much appreciative of any help or suggestions on how I can complete the VI to meet the above requirement.
    Many thanks,
    Mark
