Delaying "poof" time?

Hi all,
We all know when you put the mouse on an icon in the Dock that you can "poof" it away by taking it out of the Dock. But if you happen to have your Mouse on the icon for more then a second, a pop-up menu comes up with options.
Is there a way to either delay or even disable this pop-up menu from coming up? Either as an internal option or even a Terminal command?
If there isn't, could Apple PLEASE consider this as a future option?

hi mate, sorry to hear about your experience. in this case, the fault may lie with the Nokia Care point's handling of your device. in this case you will need to persist with them until they either fix it or issue you with a replacement. else if they are not being conducive to the matter, then you will need to take up the issue with head office of Nokia in your region.

I had a similar problem when working on a long Pages doc (40,000 words).The glitch only occurred on this one Pages file and affected no other applications. I fixed it by duplicating the file, trashing the original and working on the new document. I have no idea of the cause of the problem.

CacheLoader different expiry-delay or time-to-live for different keys

I am now using a class which implements CacheLoader interface. Ii have two issues-
1. Different expiry-delay or time-to-live for different keys- how do i do this? I can specify only one expiry-delay in configuration file. And i am not calling cache.put() so i could specify ttl. We are trying to use same class for multiple keys. But problem is that we have different expiry-delay requirements for those keys. Do we have to use different cache for those keys? hoping to avoid that as we will have lots of them.
2. refresh-ahead-factor is not working.
We are using Coherence 3.4.2 GE

Delayed start time

I have a delayed start time on my MacBook Pro, not associated with any event.. 1-2 minutes of grey to blue screens before I am able to use my machine. Otherwise working well. Any suggestions? Much appreciated..

What version of Mac OS? Have you booted to the install DVD (or recover disc) and run Disk Utility to repair permissions and repair the disk?
Try reset the PRAM by shutting the machine down, the start the machine and quickly hold the key combination <CMD>+<OPT>+p+r until you hear the restart chime three times. Then release the keys.

How do I create a delay or time-lag for my data in LABVIEW

In my data acquisition system I am using acquired data to create an digital output. I want to delay this output or create a sort of time lag for it. Is there any easy way to incorporate this?

What you might consider doing is using a sequence. Run the data through this sequence and inside of the sequence, put a delay equal to the time you wish to delay the signal. Then, the output will not be available until the delay has completed.
If you need continuous streaming data, this might not work too well. Then, you will need some sort of a data buffer - perhaps using a queue might be one possible solution. I have not used it, but I think that queues can have a time stamp. You could possibly artifically alter the time stamp.

I see a 40 second delay each time I click in the Local Files pane after working in the Edit pane.

I'm running Dreamweaver CS4. I have a PHP file that's about 12,000 lines and each time I want to upload changes to the server, I stop editing in the Edit pane and click in the Local Files pane, at right, so I can select the file I've been working on the then do a synchronize. But it takes about 40 seconds, while a spinner goes around, before focus is transferred to the Local Files pane and I can select my file and synchronize. It's as if Dreamweaver wants to do spell check or some kind of format check on all 12,000 lines before it lets me go to the Local Files pane.
If I do a CTRL-SHIFT + U to upload I still see the same 40 second delay before the upload starts.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Just for interest sake, what is the size of the file that has 12,000 lines of code? Have you tried asking in some php forums or newsgroup if this file can be stream-lined to make it smaller and/or efficient?
I don't know why DW goes to sleep for 40 seconds but you might want to clear the DW preference file to see if that makes any difference. D W Powers wrote a tutorial on how to do this but I can't find his page. Alternatively, you can try this link:

Spurious commands delaying read time

I thought this particular problem had been cured, but it seems to have come back. I’ve been using a Modbus development tool to read ADC output values without a problem. I've written a small vi which should do the same thing. It runs on the same PC and uses the same COM port. Obviously I have to close the Modbus programme to release the COM port for LabView. The vi runs fine, but data only appears on the front panel every 8 seconds.
Putting in a 500ms delay in MB Serial Receive.vi improves the response time to around 500ms, but I need 100ms. A shorter delay just results in 8 second refresh times again. The 500ms delay workaround has been implemented in the vi Reverse Power by putting the delay in a FOR Loop.
I’ve created log files looking at the data flows and they are very different between the dvelopment tool and the vi. I’ve attached these. For the Modbus development tool it can be seen that at line 130 that the data is written as a single word, and immediately received as a single word.
For the vi, there’s a lot of communication activity at the start that as a novice I don’t begin to understand, but at line 35 the data gets written. However, the read operation doesn’t take place until line 68.
I've attached the vi, Reverse Power, and the sub-vi's, and the log files. I would appreciate any ideas on how to solve this problem. Thank you.

I have had a look at your code and I need to ask you for some clarifications to better understand the issue. From your post I could gather that you were experiencing similar issues before. Is this the case? Did you manage to solve it at that time?
Moreover, it would be hard for me to test your code since I don't have the hardware you are currently using. It might be useful to give me some more information on what you are trying to do.

Anyone experiencing diminished battery life and delayed response times with iOS 5 on iPad 1?

Since installing iOS 5 on my iTouch and iPad, the battery life of both devices has been terrible! Before I could get 1-1/2 or more days use, now I'm down to hours without using the device. . .and I've turned off all of the locations services except, find my phone. Next, I'm going to try turning off the auto time zone setting.
I've also noticed diminished response on my iPad when opening Settings, Notes, etc. --like 10+ second delay before anything happens. I'm really considering restoring my devices back to the older OS.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported. My iPad is a bit slower that it used to be, but I havn't noticed any change in battery life.
In terms of response times you could try closing all your apps completely and then do a reset and if that improves things. To close all apps : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
To reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
For battery life have you done a charge cycle since you updated :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

Delay start time of song

I have a track in itunes that I want to delay the start of. I would like to start it 18 seconds in to avoid the intro, every time it plays as part of a playlist or otherwise.
I went to Info and checked the box that says Start Time and I made it :19.
But when I play the song, it plays it from the beginning anyway. What's up with that?
I am using version 10.6.3.25 because I want to keep the Cover Flow option and the program works fine for me. (Increasingly I find that new versions of programs just add crap I don't want or need and take away features I like).

Well, thanks for all the replies but I figured it out for myself.
Actually the setting of in and out points in Options in itunes apparently does not work for some long mp3's, or at least doesn't work correctly.
I had to mess around with it to get it to work, putting in different values for seconds and minutes than what logic would dictate. I got it to work, though not at the exact in and out times I wanted.

Delayed boot time

My T410s boots up quickly (I have an ssd drive), but then hangs on connecting to my wifi for about a minute or two, during which time the computer is not usable. This has happened in the past, but was fixed with a Lenovo patch, and now the problem has returned. It is especially problematic when I boot up the computer from a new location wherein I have not connected to the wifi previously.
Any suggestions?

as you have mentioned the Lenovo patch did help, and the delay occurs when you try to connect to a different wifi spot...
is it safe to say the following
- unit connecting to Area A (first time) = delay
- unit connecting to Area B (first time) = delay
- unit connecting to Area A (second time) = no delay
btw, was any new software installed?

Print delay with time capsule - multiple printers

I have the print delay problem with my Samsung ML-1510 but have 2 printers connected by USB through the TC. The second printer prints well (Canon i865). Any idea how the requests could be directed to the correct printer using the set up by IP setting so I can set up the ML-1510 to print in a timely fashion? When trying the print via IP setting I can't get any output at all from the Samsung! I have not tried to set up the Canon to print via IP as it prints well via bonjour.

Print delay with Time Capsule

Hello,
Got the TC hooked up and did a backup for 3 macs around the house. That worked fine. Wireless speeds are good.
However, printing isn't quite up to speed. When I print a document (for example a single sheet of text) it takes between 5 and 20 minutes to come out of the printer.
My three computers have all finished their initial back-up and are all essentially sitting idle, so I don't think the TC is especially busy.
I uninstalled and re-installed the printer (Brother ML-2010 - TC had no problem 'seeing' it), did all the software updates (10.5.2), turned the printer off/on, etc.
Any ideas? Having the printer fire up and print 20 minutes after hitting the print button is kind of odd.

I had success with getting a Samsung ML-1630 to print via Time Capsule this way:
*Plug printer to TC using USB cable.
*Check what services TC is advertising for your printer using a program like Bonjour Browser.
*Look for a Printer PDL Data Stream - see what IP it is advertised on, should be the IP of your TC - usually 10.0.1.1 or 192.168.1.1, with a port number of 9100.
*Set up a new printer in Print & Fax panel by clicking the "+" button
--then click the "IP" icon in the panel that appears
--choose settings as Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket
--enter the IP address of your TC that you found above (leave the port number off)
--leave the queue name blank (those with multiple USB printers connected will want to experiment with this)
--you can set name and location as you like
--select other driver and navigate to the appropriate PPD from /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/
Your new printer should work as long as you don't change the internal IP of your TC. (As far as I can tell, the reason this works is that is avoids the flakey riousbprint service, forcing the Mac to print to the Jetdirect socket on port 9100. This would also explain why some posters are able to print from Windows machines but not Macs - avoiding mDNS/Bonjour/Zero-Conf is more stable, in my experience.)
Note that this setup will not necessarily allow you to print to your home printer from elsewhere on the internets, so if that's your goal, this may not be the solution for you.
Note also that I consider this a workaround at best - not a solution (hint... firmware update... hint...)

I just make the game and I want to know when I click at Button then next operation will be add at the same time. I want to know how to wait the time about 5sec?? it's mean next operation will be add at 5sec after click at button.

Use a thread, and let the thread sleep for 5 seconds after he did that( 5000 milliseconds)

In OS loading, i can see only 1 bar crossing without DVD connected and 4 with it. DVD is set to Master and Maxtor 120 too.
