Delaying rental downloads

Hi
My isp lets me download as much as I want after midnight without using monthly quota.
If I start a movie download, and then turn off my Apple TV, would it start downloading if it was turned on again after midnight using a 'timer plug' or do you have manually click on 'resume download' ?

I've just tried this out and yes - the Apple TV continues downloading a rented movie as soon as its plugged in and booted up. I'm going to use a timer plug to start up Apple TV after midnight when I rent movies that I'm not going to watch straight away.

I actually figured it out after all! All I had to do was go back to the movie, select the rental button, iTunes recognized that I had already rented this movie but that it wasn't downloaded completely. It then made the download button visible and "voila" it restarted the download!

I pressed pause on Apple TV (2) remote by mistake twice, thus stopping movie (rental) download. Now unable to find. When trying to download again, message reads "You have already rented this movie, go to Settings and check in Download". There is no "Download" option in settings. Try logging out and back into your iTunes account, this worked for me as the rental tab (which had been invisible until then) appeared and my movie was there. Check rentals is a dead end.

Slow HD rental download - Fix

I spent forever looking for a fix to my sudden extremely slow HD rental loading times. We tried changing our DNS, switching to an ethernet cable over wireless, and anything else we could find. However, the instant solution seemed to be changing our download preference from HD to SD. The great thing is that once you have already started a rental download in HD, you can go and switch it to SD, have it load instantly, then change it back. Kind of a pain but saves a TON of time.
I hope this helps someone as much as it helped me!

SD rentals are cheaper than HD - why would you therefore rent in HD, then change the setting to watch in SD? (which I've never tried to confirm that it downloads SD version after making an HD rental).
I'm not sure this is expected behaviour.

It starts when you begin to watch it. You have 30 days in which to view the movie but the timer starts when you start playing the movie.
You do not need an internet connection to watch the movie after it has been fully downloaded.

You may not get a refund, you may simply get the rental download.
Have you tried Store>Check for Available Downloads?
If you cannot get it, then contact itunes support. Click Support at the top of this page, then click the link under Contact Us.

Horrible delay in movie rental download

I purchased a rental movie on Apple TV 30 minutes ago, and it came up with a message (after purchase of course) ready to watch in 1 hour. It's been 30 minutes and only 27% downloaded. I have never seen this happen before. Usually it downloads and then within 5 mins or so you can usually start watching as it continues to download. I have not been renting for some time, and there was an update to the firmware since last. Anyone know why this terrible delay? If it continues or this has become regular, I may have to revert to netflix or redbox. I otherwise love my Apple TV and no its not a bandwith problem with my provider, since I normally get 14-15MB download (I pay for premium speed).

Try this:
In ATV --> Settings --> General --> Network --> Test Network
Fill in the details after that with the appropriate information.
